I love our next guest so much he made history as the first British Artist to win a Grammy for each of his first four albums please give it up for the incredible Jacob Collier [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it is so nice to finally meet you in person you too thank you for being here I'm so happy to be here so your voice I'm just listening to you speak like I hear your tone in your instrument like what is it like what do how do people react to you versus you know when you see you and hear you like you get a lot of interesting reactions to you but sometimes yeah it's funny I used to be a tiny a boy at school I was one of the smallest in my class and there was one when I was about 14 years old when my voice broke you know when your voice goes from like oh it's like oh yeah and then one day I came into school and I went oh and everyone went what doesn't make any sense you're just a little boy but um I was really excited for my voice to break so I wanted to sing those bass notes and I've always loved singing like the bass like oh and then the tenor like oh and then the outer like ah and the soprano like and that's where you live that's for you that's what I know we're having a musician moment excuse us because I hear it all in your instrument you have a lot of range you just went through it all because I hear it in your speaking voice I can hear the top register and then when you drop down to that base yeah that's quite interesting yeah thank you very much okay I want to know how did you get discovered well when I was just a wee lad in North London I was growing up and I was experiencing with music a lot of the time and I started to make some YouTube videos and it was often it was me layering my voice with all those low notes up to the high notes to make these kind of um harmonies and these harmonies would be joined together and I'll be arranging songs and that process of arranging the music and creating these layers I was totally smitten with this as a process and so I kept on building this I kept on exploring it and then one day I got an email from a man named Quincy Jones oh wow and uh that was that was mind-blowing for me what was that like like what did he hear of yours that he heard there was a video I did a original of a song called Don't You Worry About a Thing You Know That Tune yes such a good tune do you guys know that tune oh it's great so that song is one of my favorites and I did an arrangement with that song and I sang some harmonies I played some different instruments and I guess Quincy had heard it and he was really excited about the chords and uh and I love chords you know there's Melody there's Rhythm but for me Harmony is like my ultimate Teenage crush and I spent a lot a lot of years just figuring out chords and how they fit together and for me as a kid I would sit at the piano and just feel my way through these chords I'm like whoa that feels cool that feels different how can I move from here to here and you build Bridges you know from one world to another world and gradually you've got a massive language that feels like you can be yourself with it yeah oh he sounds like a musical genius I think we have a musical genius right here okay so you like to conduct like choirs out of audiences y'all hear that okay can you show us give us an example like yeah so this year I've traveled all over the world I've done about 70 shows in all different corners of the world and um it's been so good since covert to get back out and do it but one of my favorite things to do is to conduct you guys basically like at every show to stand and to without saying a word you just sing and then you you find a way for the audience to sink are you guys up for trying something real quick what we need to do so could I be a part of it okay so you can start quiet very nice all right you didn't know you was a choir today did you okay so everyone knows how to sing right it doesn't matter who you are you all know you already know so it starts with like a corner response right so if I go hey oh hey [Applause] it's not amazing they do so amazing so one thing one thing I've become really interested in doing is to try and build chords out of audiences and this is like my new favorite thing to do so I think you can do it because you sound so great so you're in three different sections right yeah I'm thinking three different notes so if I say if I say yeah and then you go oh Okay cool so now so this is this is louder and this is quieter you guys ready so here's the chord foreign if you like this video smash that like button and subscribe to the Jennifer Hudson Show YouTube channel check your local listings or visit jenniferhudsonshow.com to see when you can watch full episodes in your area and don't forget to sign up for the newsletter happy for this
