Jacob klier for you and [Applause] I [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hello there um what an astonishing feeling to be standing here addressing all of you um this is quite an honor and a half I can tell you that never something that you expect from one's first album uh This was um recorded at age 21 uh and so it's it's just something extraordinary to be here so thank you so so much much a few people to thank first of all um to Mr Stevie W who I think we can all agree is quite a revolutionary soul in the human race um and has written one of the most legendary ballads ever written um so thank you to Stevie thank you to Mr Quincy Jones um who has played the role of Mentor um and manager to me the last few years his team Adam F and Michael peer amongst others are here tonight thank you to my wonderful Mama Susie Kia um who is also here tonight which is great today I mean um and my two sisters Sophie and Ella um it's so wonderful um to be able to accept this award and I I do firmly believe that there's never been a more exciting time to be a young creative person than 2017 and that if we are encouraged to invest in our imaginations uh we will do no wrong thank you so so much for this award thank you for best arrangement instruments and vocals the nominated arrangers are Gordon Goodwin John dersa Jacob Collier Alan Broadbent Billy Childs and Larry kleene and the Grammy award goes to he needs to come back out once more he needs to come back out Jacob klier for Flintstones my [Applause] [Music] [Applause] friends Bri me um Bonkers in a very British way would be a way of putting that um so um yeah it's it's very extraordinary this tune um The Flintstones I think we can agree is one of the greatest film um pieces of film music have ever written it's very catchy and very wonderful so it's kind of a humorous thing to be able to stand here and accept this award on behalf of all of the family of The Flintstones that's quite something um uh yeah it's um I I think it's um it's in many ways it's a very difficult thing to imagine that in in 2017 the music industry could be alive and well um but I I do believe having created this album completely on my own um in my little room in London that the community of bedroom artists uh people who are creating music just for themselves on their own terms um and creating wonderful things just for the sake of it these are the people who will lead Our Generation forwards um it's lovely to be able to represent that a little bit um and I hope that people will be inspired to believe that they don't necessarily need um glorious uh people behind them or lots of very expensive equipment and lots of things like that just to start creating things um and if we create uh then we'll be doing the so thank you so much to Henry thanks Henry um thank you so much to my family my mother sus Kia who's over there my sister's watching at home Sophie and Ella thank you for um for carrying me through through the the ups and the Downs of what it means to create from an honest place um thank you so much to my unbelievable impeccable extravagant inspiring team um without whom many of my crazy ideas would never make it off the ground Ben Bloomberg who's sitting over there thank you Ben Quincy Jones uh thank you Quincy Adam F Michael payer Michael Lor Dana kako uh Noah Simon who's over there James Wright Chris tally in the Shire team Nick gra and Tom Lewis you guys rock thank you for your belief and your trust in me uh and finally thank you so much to all the musicians here um on Whose shoulders I stand I'm here because of you uh whether knowingly or unknowingly you have inspired me to to use my voice and to be myself and there's never been a more exciting time to create anything much um is Jules Buckley in the house yeah Jules Buckley for those of you who don't know him is a massive Legend he's the conductor of the Metropol cast with whom I had the pleasure of collaborating on this particular Arrangement it's a l Richie song Thank you to L Richie for this incredible song All Night Long every single person in this room will have danced all night long at 1 point in their lives am I right that's what I thought um thank you so much to take six um the group who taught me how to harmonize as a teenager I used to listen to take six and sing the seventh note in every chord that's how I learned how to harmonize U and I'm so thrilled to have collaborated with them on this particular Arrangement it was amazing so thank you for your voices uh I will be forever in your debt um thank you also to the aolian of Ood University Hansville Alabama um whose voices are on this arrangement of all night long too uh you changed my life you're the greatest choir on the face of the Earth without a shadow of a doubt thank you for being on this planet um I suppose that's kind of all I have to say uh but thank you for using your your voices um to elevate this world music has the power in my humble opinion to bring so many people together in a way that nothing else in this whole world can so do things on your own terms do things in your own time and do things for yourselves and and give everything away thank you so so much thank thank [Applause] you Jacob Collier joining me now nominated tonight Jacob so good to see you you too how are you good how do you feel right now I feel pretty good I feel surreal um but it's wonderful to be here it's really nice you know it was funny so Jacob just walked in I go Jacob this suit I love it and I go who are you wearing he goes no one's ever asked me that before and I'm like wait how do you wear this look and you're not going to get ask of course you're going to get asked this is amazing thank you so much Stella McCartney all pink uh I feel like a like a superstar you you look like a superstar you feel like a superstar I like that all right so you have already several wins under your belt you've already won a few times at the Grammys and now you're nominated again tonight but tonight it's for album of the year right for Jesse volume 3 tell me what that means to you it's bananas I've never never would have expected this I didn't plan it I've just I've always focused on making music that makes me feel really good you know and and happy and keeps challenging my my my ears and my my way of thinking so yeah to be up for album of the year is a mad surprise but incredibly um incredibly surprising and and a huge privilege and an honor yeah who are you excited to see tonight I imagine because I know you you know you do some great collabs who are you excited to see honestly right now when you just went to Phoebe Bridges I was freaking out were you freaking out yeah completely completely she I'm such a fan of hers um maybe a coll she's the absolutely Count Me In yes let's put it out there I think you know I think I still see her there yeah yeah yeah for sure well Jacob thank you so much for stopping by Best of Lu and you already won one of your categories was this morning right it was this morning congratulations that's very kind of you that's so exciting so where do you keep by the way before I let you go where do you keep all your Grammys I have a blue wer keyboard in my room uh I I I record all my albums out of my little family Music Room in North London over there and uh yeah there's a world where I sit and play and there there were four Grammys on there and I'll be adding a fifth from this morning which is which is crazy amaz and maybe more Jacob thank you so much and I've noticed that actually in videos I've watched of yours you have them right there you're going have to make little I'll figure it out I'm sure you willc thank you so much Jacob according to the history books you rarely lose does it ever get old hearing your name um no it never gets old um it's crazy every single time uh it's incredible honor to be here it's such a relief to be out of the house yes um so it's all good really yeah absolutely where will you be putting this new Grammy I'll have to figure out a place to put it um there might be some kind of area I can put it in my music room at home I'll have to figure it out but it's super exciting it's a problem that I'm going to enjoy solving I love it how will you be celebrating today um my girlfriend swim in the ocean and we don't have ocean in London so feel like I may as well take advantage of the ocean the the the the oceanic terrain while I'm while I'm in the house yeah um Jacob I know we just met and all but you're crazy you're going to go jump in the ocean do you know how cold it is right now I may do yeah I may do I feel like a shock to the system is the only way I can fathom this so that's that's my next move okay well have so much fun in that
