Oh [Laughter] [Applause] [Laughter] his wide wing mirrors just the right height everybody its dick here today I'm on the Triumph Bonneville t100 is a liquid-cooled 900cc parallel twin engine with a 270 degree Frank it is 54 horsepower at 5900 RPM 80 Newton meters of torque at 3230 RPM 18 inch front wheel at 17 inch rear wheel on 32 spoke steel rim with fuel-injected chain driven with a wet multi-plate assisted clutch 5-speed gearbox with a brushed stainless exhaust system inside [Music] got a thirty one point nine inch seat height we've got a fourteen point five liter and you can turn off traction control no other riding modes front suspension is 41 millimeter for 120 millimeters of travel rear suspension is twin shots - the adjustable preload for 120 millimetres of rear wheel travel front brake is single 310 millimeter floating disc missing two Pistons floating caliper the rear brake is a single 255 millimeter disc also a two piston missin floating caliper abs is on all the time the Bonneville t100 is the closest thing you can buy to the original 59 Bonneville and still pass MOT let's take it for a ride everybody stick here today I'm on a Bonneville t100 buy triumph I don't know if I need to say that I'm not really sure how I ended up on this bike but here I am I've been going kind of through the triumph line I've been avoiding the triumph line because I kind of felt like early heritage stuff from triumphant but was a bit inauthentic and I don't know I still don't know if I'm being unfair by labeling it that but you know the best way to learn about something is to get a first-hand experience on it and my first-hand experience on the triumphs were a bit whoa hey a lot more power on that than I thought there would be that brought me around the curve a lot faster than I thought it would yeah so I figured I'd give triumphs a chance and I've been on a number of them now for a number of hours really long test rides and taking them over all sorts of terrain and really run them through the ringer and I'm a bit surprised at how performance oriented they are I didn't think that they would be all that performance oriented and the t100 is the first generation of the 900 HT engine that triumph put out after the e I think it was an 8 6 5 at the head for a while so this is the first attempt in the 900 and I gotta say I rode the Street scrambler with the updated Triumph 900 HT engine and it did not perform as nicely as this engine is performing at least in the things that I'm asking it to do I like torque I like puttering around I don't need to go a hundred odd miles an hour so in the slow stuff I really want a bike that has character this bike is heavy though I've been noticing it around these curves this bike is is heavy catching me of I surprised because I'm coming around fast but then the weight of the bike is kind of coming up behind me so I got to get used to the weight of this bike but like this 4000 rpm 4500 rpm I'm in second gear and I'm at 50 miles an hour I wasn't doing that on the street scrambler and I still I mean I'm at 4500 rpm going 45 miles an hour in second gear there's a proper second gear they're good full range 50 miles an hour third gear 3800 miles an hour sorry 50 miles an hour third gear 38 thirty-six hundred mile ah third gear fifty miles an hour 3800 rpm and really comfortable really like really kind of throaty with a lot more torque there I got that pork is really nice up through that range on the 7/3 gear I'm going 65 miles an hour and I'm not even near redline that was not the case on the street scrambler so I'm really enjoying the the power of this engine and how its distributed it's not I mean it's at nine hundred that's it's triumphs they call it little what I think I've been seduced into thinking I think I've been brainwashed into thinking that the 900 is a little engine this is a big engine I mean I write a 500 so this is a bigger engine let's be let's be honest with her let's be honest with ourselves ladies and gentlemen this is no little engine it's not 700 it's not I mean it's a 900 and it's grunty but these are the days we live in these are the weird wild days of where 900 is considered small or at least a mid-weight you can hear that it's got a great sound stock pipes and that that take off that torque at takeoff is sublime seat height is so forgiving I have a bend to my knee it's very comfortable very good C height I like the ergonomics of this bike just gonna keep it in second running out of it I've already said I'm at 60 I'm at 74th gear 75 fourth year 5000 rpm and I have a fifth gear the fifth gear on the street scrambler was disappointing I kept looking for a sixth gear I don't think I'd be looking for a six how many miles an hour already me this is a very usable range ladies and gentlemen this is a bike where you have five years and you don't wish for a six that's a very rare thing these days the wind is negligible as well that big headlight and their double clocks and the length of this tank is really giving me a good wind protection on this naked heritage style bike I'm really enjoying this bike already 70 miles an hour this is so much more comfortable than the streets camber was at 70 miles an hour I'm at 70 miles an hour 3900 RPM cruising with traffic easily I feel very stout very grounded on this bike seats actually quite comfortable cradling my ass I love the ergonomics of this buy come up right let's see if okay I'm at 65 fifth gear there's no other gear to go to I'm gonna see I want to I want to overtake this guy let's see what I got now it'd be it's still climbing yeah so this is a very very usable bike in terms of highway performance back down to sixty it's also very smooth going up and down from speed it's doing a nice engine braking thing but it's it's not generally but it's coming down from speed nicely when I need it to there's a great great Rumble underneath me I it feels so mean it feels so aggressive I don't know if you hear that I thought I'd be disappointed with this engine because it's ten horsepower less than the new 900 but I'm not let down at all I'm actually this is actually a lot more this is a lot more usable than that Street scram where I rode I kept looking for a sixth gear I'm not looking for a sixth gear on this hasn't even crossed my mind I love the sound of this Jesus it's funny though riding this the styling of it and the position of it I do feel like I mean it's very muscley it feels muscley but I feel like I'm riding on a time machine it does really bring you back I mean it is a vintage looking bike this is a very very very cool bike it fits it slots right into my sensibilities of usable motorcycling torquey spirited it's definitely spirit Liefeld but it's fun you feel fun on this bike I can understand why the Interceptor from Royal Enfield for the the i6 50 or whatever they call it in America was chasing this styling because I'm feeling Fionna I'm feeling really feeling really alive more alive than on some other bikes I've written I've been on the highway for a bit now and I feel like I could drive this thing for long long long miles got a little bit of a sideswipe buffeting coming around that truck but not disconcertingly oh I did just go I did just try and go to a sixth gear so that's interesting there maybe it's out of habit but I didn't I guess instinct chewy I felt like I needed one but it wasn't there but that's the first time I've noticed that where does the wind go the wind is way up over my forehead and I'm not getting that same issue I was having if I went 70 miles an hour on that scrambler 1200 Exene that I rode 70 miles an hour was blowing me back on the are 90 70 miles an hour above was blowing me back on the street scrambler the wind was blowing me back on this it's it's negligible it's nice it's a really comfortable ride I could see myself on this bike for hours and hours and hours I mean I'm still on the highway usually when you're on up when you're on a highway bike that does not behave you're looking for the road to get off it I'm still riding on this thing and I love the sound of it I don't know if you can hear it over the wind noise and it feels like I'm on like a big warship for a submarine for the ambient the rum of the engines a running deep that's what it is is a rumble this signal rides just so comfortably at 75 miles an hour most of the triumphs I've been riding of over 70 or over 65 actually you got to hold on for dear life but you gotta really pull against that wind but this is just cruising along if I'm from some of my roads that I like been taking all the triumphs on the same roads to see how they compare against one another it does have similar feedback to the 1200 scrambler XE I rode where when you get down to just about 1500 rpm it starts to give you some protests reminding you to shift if you like that feedback that billet aluminum there is shining right in my eyes luckily the needles are white and they're shining in my eyes too so I can still read the display or the oh no you call it a display when it has needles I do like the fact that has needles so 30 miles an hour 2500 rpm third gear very comfortable is to use this is that third gear is meant for third gears riding through town first and second over tarantass love that sound god that's enough to seduce you it's kind of lumpy around the curves so I think it has a bit more power than the suspension and the chassis is letting you use with it but if you rein it in it's quite comfortable this is where I almost wiped out on the 1200 no wiping out on this thing it's not the most I mean I was saying it's a confidence-inspiring motorcycle but it's not the most conferences farm motorcycle dipping into the turns there is a bit of splash eNOS on the suspension that makes you feel a bit uneasy a bit kind of sloppy but it's not my performance bike so you have to take that you have to rein yourself in it's hard to rein yourself in when you have such a punchy engine though I do love how punchy this engine is it really does have a character to it great noise I do like this seat height it's a very confidence-inspiring this bike is very confidence-inspiring maybe nuts that's a revelation coming around too fast the locals it's the locals who know the roads and don't expect anyone to be out here that are gonna kill you so once you go slow and respect the danger that these pose you got to respect the singletrack now I brought the X C and XE and Scrimm we're out here to see how it fared on the dirt but I'm gonna be a bit cheeky and pull this off yeah it's definitely heavier doesn't it's not as nimble on the off-road stuff but on road this thing is a dream it's like a vanilla ice cream no it's not it's like caramel ice cream smooth and delicious had some trouble turning the EXCI as well because of the height and the weight up top and this thing just glides in circles attorney ray is fairly comfortable and the weight is the weight is balanced nicely so I don't feel like I have to slide back and forth over this thing there is a road up here that I want to go on because there are occasions where you're just stuck and you have to do a bit of gravel riding and I am curious how this engine I mean it is the engine that was on the original Street scrambler so it's funny I wouldn't be able to pass that up the last couple times I came through on the bigger scrambler is that on this I just bypass it right away so this is the road that kind of will test your test your mettle when you get caught out are you visiting your friends in the country it's very torquey I'm in first gear there's a big rut here I remember I'm not bad I can go out of your way to hit the ruts but if you can't miss him like this one ha that did perfectly fine traction control engaged a little bit I do like how it's not a constant noise it's not a constant revving car it's not constantly loud or constantly making noise it actually gets quite quiet even even in the rev range it gets quite quiet and only at certain times is it kind of just Herald it heralds the power it's not a cornering machine but neither am i but maybe it's a good fit let's be careful going through here like before the but peloton through second gear under 20 miles an hour and under 2,000 rpm it gets very tractor like sounds very tractor like doesn't threaten stalling but it's kind of the precursor but it is very much at home on these back lanes here it's a bit more cumbersome than my Royal Enfield but it isn't more powerful to so there is a trade-off huh hitting that bump wasn't as jarring as I thought it would be either it's surprising me I'm just sitting here in second gear has a good nice long range to it and that this death curve single tracks that you have out here you want to make sure you're not distracted by shifting constantly so you can let it runs only at 3,000 rpm it's kind of saying it it's kind of telling me it wants to shift but I have all that range to go and I don't need to so I can let it Rev a little bit I do like the Heritage styling however this is a bit too heritage styling to me like the the headlight ears that the the metal bits that come out and hold the headlight to the fork they look very very dated the indicators look very dated I like the the touches or the nods to heritage that triumphs been doing but with a with a bit more design flair especially at the the stalks holding on the headlamps like the Bonneville and the t100 the t120 have these very old-school very dated I'd say cheap looking head like stalks and then the more modern classics I guess they'd call them have these very sculptural design e machined stalks that just it just shows a little bit more care a little bit more value I think I feel like there's a little bit more value when they're on their machine there there's a little design element but you cannot fault the performance of this engine I'd even say they probably forgetting that little extra power at the top end with the new version or I should say the updated version this is a very characterful engine and I didn't get that when I rode the street scrambler I was a bit let down by the street scrambler I am smitten I'm smitten with this thing I'm gonna be looking at these with a bit more reverence than I have in the past that was nice I like this guy go look at that weight balance it's just just so grounded yeah this is a fun fun motor there's my seat height look at that I mean both feet flat on the ground bend in the knee there's something to be said about seat height that low Oh again I am 5 foot seven and a half I put eight if I'm talking to my wife and I have a 30 inch inseam I was told when I was talking about see high on my videos that's less of a concern about how tall I am and that the inseam is really the important measurement that makes a lot of sense to me but the guy who wrote the comment and I say this with our respect is disproportionately shaped I should say he's something like six foot four were the 30 inch inseam that's how long torso I gotta say I feel like a motorcyclist no I don't I feel like a biker on this bike this bike makes you feel like a biker it's just heavy enough but not too heavy to feel unwieldy but it feels like just like metal physic iron her Eagles and explosions dive bar Rocky guitar you're like a biker now I know why all those guys right up to all those biker meets on these things it's such a smug look on their face I'm at speed instantly Christ this thing just cooks I did I don't know if you noticed it I had a little twinge to looks for a sixth gear there I stopped myself because I knew it wasn't there and I also do I didn't need it so I'm just checking my time I'm on this thing about an hour and a half now and you would think at this flat heritage seat that my tender ass would be complaining and it is not this thing is cupping my ass and I dare say my balls with such tender loving care it is a very comfortable seat it's simple it's a supple seat so it's softer than I would have thought would be comfortable over time but it's not uncomfortable in any respect I'm actually quite enjoying the ride on this seat I mean I'm riding with very fast traffic here these people going about 8090 miles an hour in the fast lane I'm doing just about 70 these people blowing past me but I don't feel vulnerable on this motorcycle there are lots of bikes especially that big lorry right there there's lots of bikes where you can feel very vulnerable out here on the highway this bike does not make you feel vulnerable and actually when you're riding look at this guy you have fast these poem passed me when you're riding on this you don't realize how low the seat height is they sell the scramblers with this cop out sales pitch to minimize the fear and quality of how high it is because you have that extended ground clearance and longer travel on the suspension they say that you have a commanding ride height which is their way of saying it's tall but it's okay that it's tall I kind of feel like I have a commanding ride height on this and it it's not tall in any respect that lovely submarine threw up loving that I will note that the horn is a [ __ ] on a motorcycle horn you want to let people know you're there this one's like hey come to my party I'm having a party it's not even a party it's a slumber party come to my slumber party he beat a couple cars with horns like that and you gotta switch them out for big truck horns this thing needs a louder horn loving this engine loving this engine I did not love it updated on the streets grammar I've said it before I'm going to say it again they've made the crank lighter on the new engine you have 10 more horsepower and it desperately needs a sixth gear maybe that 10 more horsepower - now it just needs a six-year high it was a very much let down by the street spammer because it didn't have a sixth gear this thing is perfect with five years no rider modes no rider modes on this it's got traction control that you can turn off it's got ABS it's on all the time and there are no rider modes so in the age of rapidly tacking on technology to your motorcycles this thing is fear pure while still being a contemporary example of a bureau for probably euro five six compliant motorcycle halogen lights incandescent turn signals dual clocks with needles this thing is a relic it's a brand new relic single disc in the front I think it's innocent brakes this is pre Brembo licensing or contracting single disc in the back the braking is just fine there are missin brakes on all of my Japanese bikes my Yamaha fc6 says this in breaks and I've never had a problem with this it breaks I think the Brembos are coming on all the new updated 900 triumph a little stuff yeah that Ford Focuses rolling some coal it smells I know about Jesus Christ man get a tuneup man I don't know what else to say about the bike ladies and gentlemen I'm impressed I don't know why I sound reluctant to be impressed I guess my prejudices against triumph we're a - unfounded if you like
