The Grail Ultra press provides an absurdly easy way to get clean safe and actually good tasting water from almost any freshwater Source coming in at 90 this is not a cheap filtered water bottle it's capable of removing more contaminants than some of the most popular hiking and backpacking filters out there but there's a catch there are some things you need to know before buying the Grail Ultra press for some of you guys it might be a deal breaker and for others you might not care at all so let's get right into it hey guys it's Brian from waterfilterguru.com and first let me lay out some of the key features that really make this bottle great it's Compact and slim size fits in most backpack pockets and cup holders the bottle is durable and can withstand impacts from drops up to 10 feet while full of water their unique press filtration design filters a bottle worth of water in 10 seconds which comes out to be a flow rate of about three liters per minute the top of the bottle lid is slightly padded for easier pressing and a flip carry handle makes it easy to pull the inner press from the outer cup the bottle cap is also a vent used to release pressure while pressing and the drinking spout is wide and easy to drink from finally there's some nice non-slip rubber on the bottom and sides of the bottle making it easier to grip okay so there are a lot of things that I absolutely love about this bottle it's ridiculously easy to use and provides really quick filtration this means there's no waiting for gravity or sucking through a straw it can be used with any fresh water source like Lakes streams and an untreated tap water it removes up to 99.99 of bacteria viruses and cysts offering solid protection from these pathogens the filter also has an activated carbon component which removes additional dangerous impurities such as pesticides and herbicides heavy metals pfas vocs and other chemicals this also improves the taste and smell of the water which is really really nice hey are you enjoying this video If so make sure to like it below let me know in the comments section what you think have you used one of these Grill bottles or is there another portable water filter you prefer let me know in the comments section okay moving on the filter cartridges themselves have a shelf life of up to 10 years before they've been used after filter has been used once you can store it for up to three years as long as it's been properly dried out the bottle and components themselves are made of high quality BPA free plastic and food grade silicone the filter has been independently tested by a certified lab to meet or exceed NSF standards 42 and 53 for sediment pathogen and chemical removal it also meets the EPA guide standard and protocol for testing microbiological water purifiers this proves it will perform as advertised and keep you from getting sick finally Grail offers a 10-year warranty covering workmanship and materials so you're covered if anything ever breaks outside of normal wear and tear they also offer an industry-leading one-year guarantee so if you don't love it you can send it back for a full refund within one year so there are a couple things with this bottle I'm really not a big fan of it's 40 gallon filter capacity is much lower than other filtered water bottles this means each filter cleans up to 40 gallons of water before it'll need to be replaced and this is highly dependent on the source water that's actually being filtered so it could not even last that long there's no way to backwash the filter and open it up to extend its lifespan either the holding capacity of the bottle is only 16.9 fluid ounces which is just half a liter this means you'll need to be filling it up multiple times or carrying extra water containers to filter into just to get all the water that you need it's also a lot heavier than other Backcountry water purification method that I'm familiar with by itself without any water in it the ultra press weighs in at 12.5 ounces which is actually really heavy and finally this filter is expensive both up front and for cartridge Replacements after the initial purchase replacement filters cost 25 each so depending on how much you use it this cost can add up quick if you're just looking for a filter to make water safe to drink in the backcountry this one's a little expensive for what you get there are cheaper longer lasting options if you don't care how the water tastes just as long as it won't make you sick but if you want something to both purify and make the water taste better the Grail Ultra press is the way to go the Press technology is ridiculously easy and makes it super nice to not have to wait around for gravity or purification tablet to do its job it's perfect for day hikes where you know you'll be near a water source so you can reduce some of the water weight you'll be carrying from the beginning of your hike because you know you'll be able to fill up whenever you want I'd also recommend it to folks who will be traveling internationally to places where you normally can't drink the tap water you can use the Grail to drink that tap water and reduce the need for buying bottled water your entire trip finally the ultra press would be a great addition to an emergency prep kit or bug out bag that you would keep in your car so there are a few situations where I really would not recommend this bottle this wouldn't be my first choice if I were looking for a filter to take on an extended backpacking trip this one's just too heavy and when you're backpacking every single ounce of weight really counts I also wouldn't recommend this for camping in general it just doesn't provide the amount of water you need for drinking cooking cleaning dishes hygiene Etc and the same thing goes for long-term emergency preparation this bottle just doesn't provide a feasible way to get large amounts of clean water in an emergency situation for a system that can provide larger quantities of water I'd recommend checking out the Porta well finally I wouldn't use this to filter municipally treated water either while it can filter out chemicals like chlorine the primary function of this bottle is to make outdoor fresh water sources safe for drinking if you're someone who just wants a filtered water bottle to use with City Water I'd look at something like the clearly filtered or epic water filters bottles okay guys that's it for this video you can click or tap the screen right now to keep watching more of our videos about water filters thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one [Music]
