you join me inside the cabin of the 2020 chevrolet  c8 corvette stingray i think i got all the names   this car took the car ruled by storm when it  debuted with the mid-engine layout and the   supercar looks and we were sitting there  thinking all right now hundred thousand   dollars that's what they're gonna charge but  they didn't they said sixty thousand dollars   and now we're thinking lord they're either  crazy or this is all smoke and mirrors   and we're gonna get a car and it's just gonna  fall apart that we're gonna find out today   we're gonna go over the exterior interior and  of course i'm gonna take it for a spirited drive   and find out whether this is even worth sixty  thousand dollars that's today on miles per hour and there it is the 2020 c8 corvette a lot  of hype about this car understandably so   and this one right here is painted lake elkhart  blue metallic and unlike many of the cars i review   you do not have to pay extra for this color it's  a good one nice deep blue with some metallic flake   to it the sun is hiding at this very second behind  the clouds but it will come out we will get to go   deeper into that paint color but the name lake  elkhart blue comes from a lake near road america where chevy likes to do some driving of its  performance vehicles now before we get too deep   into this exterior walk around and interior  then the driving impressions a couple quick   announcements if you've not subscribed to the  channel please do so you get access to daily   uploads walk arounds pov drives day and night live  q a's and reviews like this one all those videos   i just mentioned i've got the c8 starring  in those so feel free to go check those out   probably want to wait till after this video though and if you like the content i put out every  day and you want to support me you're the best   and there are two different ways you can do that  i have some merchandise miles per hour t-shirts   face masks mugs and uh and i also have a patreon  account with some good perks for you and that's   an awesome way to support me so with all that out  of the way let's dive back in to the c8 corvette   car that i've personally been very excited  about and now i'm going to go in depth into   the exterior of this car so one thing that had  to change with the transition from front engine   to mid-engine layout was the design now we've  seen progression of the corvette's design   language over the years but it was always  with that front engine rear drive layout   now with the engine in the middle it freed up  corvette's designers to do something different   and so now the nose while still beak-like and  sharp with all these slats not slats rather   but nice deep cuts into the grille that  are very indicative of a corvette design   now they're on a shrunken platform  shrunken surface so the nose is truncated and gives more space for the rear design because  the engine is of course behind the cockpit   so that's going to be a big departure  but as you're going around this car   if you've been a fan of corvette if you've seen  the design progression through the years you   will definitely recognize this car on the road  people who may not necessarily be in the know   may confuse it for a ferrari i've heard mclaren  i've heard these are all things that people have   said to me while i'm out driving the car what  is that is that a ferrari well you may not be   the most in-depth enthusiast to think that but it  can be forgiven because this car has that supercar   stance that supercar design with mid-engine layout  i will mention that this one that i'm driving here   has the z51 performance package it is worth every  penny of the five thousand dollars they charge   because you get not just a lot of exterior  design stuff and interior well not really   interior treatments but the driving dynamics  are changed dramatically with things like   the michelin pilot sport 4s tires i'll get to  those in a second the higher performance brakes   uh upgraded rotors in size and calipers and  electronic limited slip differential that's   a big one you definitely want to shell out for  that one tuned springs dampers and sway bars   and then the styling stuff that i will get to  so starting up here at the front sorry there   was a long long rant about what this car is  equipped with before i get into the design   we can look these led daytime running lights if  the iphone will pick up the actual light signature and there's been some criticism about the  design of the headlights some people like   it some people don't like it i personally think  it's good looking it's not so sharp so narrow   that it makes the eyes seem small i think  they're proportional to the face of the car   so those are good for me down below that we've got  some air venting of course no real big venting at   the front because the engine is no longer in the  front you don't have a lot to cool but you still   need ventilation moving through along the side to  cool the brakes and tires and to chair channel air   under and around the car for aerodynamics so we  have some venting here and we've got a sparkly   black paint that bisects the blue this front  splitter is part of the z51 performance package   and it is very much plastic but that means it's  not going to be very expensive when you break it   and the car isn't crazy low so you shouldn't be  scraping it on absolutely everything if you take   driveways at an angle that's not going to be  a problem this blacked out panel can put your   front license plate up here but if you don't  have it up there you can see the corvette   stamped in the piano black we've got a couple  cameras here and some are for front facing   camera work so you can avoid obstacles in a  parking lot some are for the performance track   data recording software so you can record  your track improve your lap times and so on   so that's the nose of the new corvette and as  we work our way to the side you can really see   the blue transform in the sunlight see if we  can get down here see some metallic flake now   yeah there's a bit of it just a bit of it that's  nice the wheels are 19-inch front 20-inch rear   and wrapped in michelin pilot sport 4s tires with  the c51 package 245 section front 305 section rear   the wheel designs themselves i don't love i think  they're too busy it's like the designers got in   a room and we're like oh we want this design  and this design and this design and then the   head designer just said yes we'll take all  of those and this is what they ended up with   it's you know it's a it's a simple five star  design and then it's spindly and you've got some   painted parts some non-painted parts just pick one  i would prefer a much more clean and elegant wheel   these would probably be the first things i  would change if this were my particular corvette   the red brain red wow brake calipers red  painted brake calipers it's what i tried to say   except i tried to say it all at once are an  option you have to pay i think about 400 for those   but if you get the z51 package  they are stamped with z51 and i mentioned the rotor size they are the brakes  themselves are four piston both front and rear   mono blocks you can tell you around  town and in canyons they do very well   coming to the side we see these door  mirrors that jut out from the body   and their body color matching  they don't look cheap coming towards the back now we're going to need  the real injection of air so this big inlet on   the side much like a lamborghini if you will um  is channeling the air up into the engine which is   yonder and i love that they put this glass panel  so you can look in and see that v8 it's it's very   much a supercar move to be able to look in and  see your engine that's excellent i like the design bordering the engine cover this camera back  here this is a fun one that is also for your   performance data recording whereas this one  right here is for your backup camera functions your fuel door is right over  here itty bitty fuel door   but it is capless filling which i love and i  actually like the that the fuel door is so small   it doesn't draw the eye you're looking instead at  the air intake on the side the inlet on the side   you're looking at this lower  sill piece that jets out nicely but you're not looking at the fuel door  now i'm starting this one with the target   top on i will take it off at some point and  show you what the car looks like without it   but let's step back to the profile for a  sec i mean i showed the front angle but   i'll spend a second looking at it once more  i think this is the best look of the car   hi ann lo it's the most exotic looking angle i'm  a fan the side is also a good look and the nose very muscular angular futuristic all  bundled in one you can also see this   cut out here it's not rounded everything's  an angle on this car so that is angular going to the back let's look at the haunches it doesn't step out too terribly much but it does have some width in the  hips and now we arrive at the back   we do back angle and then full on back back  angle doesn't insult me quite as much as the   fullback view my problem with the whole car's  design is the rear end i like everything else   about the design but the rear end i get  here and i go wow there's a lot going on   much like the wheels they went with  too many different design elements   so they wanted different things and they just  bundled them all together here and one of the   things the z51 performance package adds this  spoiler here and i i don't exactly know how   i feel about it without it i think the car would  look a little odd especially with this turn down   portion here but i think that a simple lip spoiler  somewhere between this and uh you know a low lip   spoiler would have been a better look instead this  is again more angles more to draw the eye more   going on so these designs at night look pretty  slick they go with again the angles of the car but there i mean there's there's one too many  things going on on the back of this car this is   another one of them you know if they could  just do a straight line there or something   down here we've got some ventilation  pulling hot air out of the car   and then we get to the tailpipes and this is  uh this is a no-no for me they squared off the   tailpipes and i guess in my head i can understand  the thought process of all the angles on this car   and the squares and the edges and  they're like yeah square tailpipes work   but there's just something wrong about  square tail pipes it just it doesn't   look right i want them to be round or oval like  previous corvettes and this just doesn't work an extra weird part about it is that they  flare out here and so they're not just square   but they're flared and then squared flared and  squared i don't like it on the z51 package you   do get a performance exhaust system so they make  a better noise more freer flowing freer flowing   and you get an extra five horsepower from that  but yeah the square design doesn't work for me   they are genuine they're not big flared exhausts  with either only one tailpipe going into two   as finishers or just one tiny tail pipe or two  tiny tail pipes there are two full-size tailpipes   back here diffuser with a mesh  looks really good i like that corvette badge up top and then we've got a stingray insignia on the  back of the car i like this i think this is neat you can also see in the sun the sparkly  finish of the black pieces on the car so yeah overall thoughts on the rear it's a bit  busy for me i don't hate it but i don't love it   like i do the rest of the design all right now i'm  going to remove the target top so we can just do a   quick once over the car on the outside without  the target top and to remove the starter top   you're going to do three things on each of the  passenger driver and passenger side i'm gonna   see this bar here you'll pull that out with a  little force do that over there and then you press   this piece right here and this will pop out  then you just lift up and you stow the thing   in the trunk i'm going to show you this  whole process now in a accelerated fashion and there we go target top removed stored in  the trunk we can see what kind of an opening it   creates not huge definitely brings in more light  and when you're driving feel the wind in your hair   much more than a window will create but it's  it's sort of like a very wide sunroof opening it does change how the vehicle looks however especially down low in  profile and at the front angle and i love that this is offered from the factory   for the coupe so that if you don't want the  full convertible if you want to still be able   to look at your engine bay which you won't  be able to do if you get the convertible but you want some of that sun on you then  this is a great option i also love that you   can store the roof in the trunk and still  have some cargo space with that front trunk it's a really nice feature of the c8 and even further exotifies its look all right so that is the exterior design  of the ca corvette my thoughts they did a   really excellent job and they got to the rear and  couldn't agree on how to take the design so it's   a touch busy i would also change those wheels  and now it is time to check out the interior   and on our way in we'll note that like the  previous two generation corvettes there's not   a handle to open the door but rather a button  this time the buttons found beneath this sill   so you press up on this here and it  will unlatch the door and open it and i'll be honest it reminds me of some other  supercars so when i press up on the button   i'm expecting all right dihedral action  or scissor action as the door opens   but no it's just a conventional door and the one downside to that is that this is a  pretty fat sill here and so you can't open the   door that wide and speaking of the doors are  pretty large and specifically you know the end   of the door would be there but there's this piece  out here that leads into the intake on the side   and so the door sticks out pretty far i found that  in my narrower driveway i could only open the door   about yay far because look at  that look how far that sticks out   and so then you're doing you know acrobatics to  get yourself out of the car but you can get in   and out of the car it's possible if you're in  a parking lot probably going to have to keep   the door in closer to you but now we can focus on  this cabin and this model here has the 2lt group   of equipment and so that means you get heated  and ventilated front seats you get a head-up   display you get wireless smartphone charging  you slide your phone into that spot right there   you get blind spot monitoring  with rear cross traffic alerts   and you get some other goodies that i will try to  get to and if i forget i'll make sure i list them   for you but as options on this car in addition  to the 2lt we have the gt2 bucket seats which   are gorgeous seats i love how they look i like  the carbon fiber glossed over in the back here   i like the embossed corvette logo right there the  stitching on them and they don't just look good   they're very comfortable is that dinging  annoying you because it's annoying me   you also have a torch red seat belts on this  model that's an extra 400 is it worth it   i don't know colored seat belts are cool i  will say that so it might be worth it to you   oh also part of the 2lt package is this bose  performance series sound system 14 speakers very   very good audio and that's coming from a non-audio  file so i won't be able to tell you the more   specific critiques of the sound system just know  the volume's good and pitch is right good bass all   that so it's a good sound system and 14 speakers  in this little cabin is quite a bit of power   the doors themselves all covered in nice  leather with this white contrast stitching good   solid feeling components in this car they really  didn't cheap out and even though has tested this   car is 78 000 as opposed to the starting price  of just under 60 000 this is i mean it's just so   nicely touched up in this cabin they did not  cheap out down here typically in cars this   is a scratchier plastic even if it's textured  but this is all leather really nice feel very   nice feel and this metal trim doesn't feel cheap  either auto up down windows power folding mirrors memory seats that's your front trunk and rear  trunk release we can go ahead and open those   that's the front trunk i believe there  was actually just a recall for this   something about the mechanism in the front  trunk isn't really working right i myself   have had struggles closing it without  feeling like i was breaking something   but a nice deep cavity here you could easily  fit a small suitcase or a couple duffel bags so that's a good opening and then we also have   here's the part where i hope i don't break it  there we go second time the charm a rear opening and here is where the target panel sits  but i'll show you a clip of the trunk piece   without the charger panel in it so you  can see that it's a good size cavity   you could fit easily a set of golf clubs  in there chevy says you can fit two   i say that's getting kept tetrissy and pretty  creative but with this and the front trunk   together you have 13 cubic feet of space that's  significant that's basically the size of a compact   sedan's trunk you imagine that's that's a good  size area for you to fit groceries and luggage   and all that stuff you shouldn't really have  to sacrifice unlike many other supercars you   should not have to sacrifice your cargo space here  you can get a look at that engine from back here corvette stamped out on the top and it has a soft  close feature i love that so you're not having   to slam the trunk you just close it just to the  point and then it will close the rest of the way now stepping back into this cabin go ahead  and sit inside close the door for you no soft closed doors that would have  been a nice touch even as an option   you can start to see the 12.3 inch driver  gauge cluster with some animations on there   and then an 8-inch infotainment both of those are  standard features on this car here's some startup   and then we will change the drive mode  something with a more bass sport mode oh yeah that is nice the air is going to go crazy   so all of your climate controls are along this  spine on the center and this got some flack   for just being kind of weird but i'd say  after a few days with it you get used to it   and you start to know where to find what you're  looking for in terms of climate control on here   and your eye doesn't go to it quite as much  as it did when you first got on the car   so here's where you find your heated and cooled  seat options up here and then your automatic or   non-climate settings this 8-inch infotainment  comes with apple carplay and android auto is   standard along with a wi-fi hotspot chevy is kind  of on the ball with that stuff they off always   offer a wi-fi hotspot in their cars and that's  a great feature your performance data recorder   setup is right here so you press that button  and then you're brought into a menu where   you can do video overlays of your apps of your  laps wow apps i've got smartphones on the brain then at home you've got your camera system  many different angles here this is a really   high resolution system it's hard to see because  there's some glare here and that does happen   with the system you do get some glare from  the sun but unlike other chevy vehicles   where you know the camaro where the the display  is angled at you which is so odd and cadillac's   i think it angles away from you this is just  you know it's it's the right orientation here   but you do have two different angles a narrow  and a wider width for the rear i find i use this   i find i use this wide angle lens pretty often  because you can really see if someone's coming   around the corner and you can see it there  but you can't see it here because there is   a pretty sizable blind spot out of the  back of the car much like other supercars   but this camera assures you that you are not  going to damage your very nice new corvette   you've got a front angle camera looking straight  down so you don't crunch those curbs or those uh   stoppers at parking spaces and then you've  got some different angles off that front   angle that's for those two cameras i showed  you before i think i misspoke i said one   was for performance data recording one was for  parking it's not true they're both for both uses   and the one thing this doesn't have is the full  bird's eye view of the car that would be a nice   feature to have alas it's not here no complaints  though really high resolution very useful features   and now if you want to get into some of your  driving modes you do that by going to i missed it   settings and z mode and my mode slightly confusing  for me because they effectively do the same thing   except that z mode has this button here on the  steering wheel to activate whereas my mode you   would have to crank the dial to get to z mode also  changes the digital gauge cluster to that look   which mirrors the sport look quite a bit with a  red background background whereas my mode is blue   let's go to my mode here see that not really  not really any difference between that and tour   but then when we get into the setup for the two  things there's only one difference between them   so you should be able to go in here and for each  of these various settings choose of one of three   levels tour sport or track for engine sound  steering suspension powertrain and brake response   that's z mode mimo the only other difference  is that powertrain is no longer an option here   you can change everything else  between those three levels   oh there's now a step um i'm discovering other  things here guys so my mode also has a stealth   for engine sound that is the only other thing  that in the absence of powertrain settings   but the fact that there are two individual  settings is somewhat confusing this car   maybe just leave it at one that's z mode  that's activated via the steering wheel   but that is the s that is the  setup here for the infotainment   pretty quick to respond good graphics you  do have navigation as standard in this car   although with apple carplay and android auto  do you really need it you're not gonna be going   off-road or out of an area where you should  have map connectivity rant over about that   moving over to here ah one other thing you do have  a volume knob and a home button those are the only   two physical things on the infotainment the rest  can be controlled via the steering wheel controls   or touch back to the digital instrument  cluster so we've got a few different   things going on here as you go through the  different drive modes so i showed you my mode   this is tour this is sport you can  see there is some delay to this   uh gauge cluster here the resolution is excellent  i like the graphics but there is some delay so you   can see off to the right here this is a setting  that can be changed you've got a 0-60 timer trip computer different settings here we can search  the fuel economy and speaking of fuel   economy this car gets 15 city 27 highway  and 19 combined not awful for a supercar back here you also have a lap timer  and a g-meter audio maintenance   some options and you can press this and  it will just kind of declutter the setup   and have you just looking at the tachometer  with the speedo down here all right   other thing shown on the display oil  temperature and fuel gauge at all times the head-up display has some pretty useful  information on it unlike many head-up displays   this one actually has the tack up there and you  know what i didn't see is if i switch to track   mode if it changes the look of the tac look at  that it does it just gives you the red line nice   and looking at track mode down here you've got  the red line sprawl that across the top in a   horizontal bar format with your red line right  there at 6 500 rpm you also have the temperature   level of the oil and then you have your psi  off to the left all important stuff for while   you're at the track and just just to show you  the slight delay in moving through those modes   but i like the graphics as you go between them the  visualizations are really cool so i am genuinely   a fan of this digital instrument cluster we've  got some few controllers over here the sound   of the turn signal and you know while we're  at it i'm just going to show you how the turn   signal looks so to open the door press this  button here you can hear the door release and we can see it just illuminates one  of the led daytime running light panels   looking pretty sharp about the taillights just this piece above   the left corner if you're doing a left turn  signal above the corner of the tail lights back in the car also appreciate how good size and the  quality of the feel again the whole cabin   theme is high quality materials very high  quality and frankly not what i would expect   genuinely out of some gm vehicles but they  really went the extra mile with this car so   good size and you can hear that i  don't know maybe you can real metal   on these paddles and a lot of travel for the  paddles i hate when it's just traveled like that   far there's actual travel here you've got power  controls for the tilt and telescope of the wheel   so that's pretty neat how about the wheel  design i've gone back and forth on this one   a couple times because i can't tell sorry i  didn't mean to make a ladder can't tell if i   like it or don't like it i don't mind the squared  off look i realize that's very race car inspired   but the the v here the upside down v is  peculiar to me i don't know if i agree with   the design language there much like the rear end  i think maybe they wanted to do too many things   and embraced all of them and that that was  not one of the ones that i think worked out   the size of the wheel the feel of the wheel the  thickness is all good stuff this v not my favorite   steering wheel controls i already mentioned  these a little bit so this is how you control   that right there there isn't unlike some  mercedes-benz vehicles one side that   controls that one side that controls this no  these these all just control that right there   z mode when you press it does illuminate neat no  adaptive cruise control or lane keeping assist   your head up display you can just control  the height position of it from right here your parking brake is down there  down yonder let me zoom in on that   just a button that you press once will initiate  press the same button and it will release it in the center stack here these are  a bit peculiar though high quality   like many of the other things in this car they  all are pull up or press and it takes a bit   of getting used to but when you learn it you  get used to it it's just it's interesting how how they work so pulling that up gives you reverse   pressing that gives you neutral  pulling this up gives you drive   pressing that gives you manual so that's  that's all neat and then park is right there   your tracking control button is over here and it  does a few different things you just press it once   turns off traction control press and hold it and  it will turn off traction and stability control there you go i have to hold it for quite a while   and then when you are in track mode you can  also press that twice and it will bring you to   the launch control settings front view camera  it's a press of a button which is pretty nice   you can do that on the fly your drive modes  are beneath this leather stitch cover again   the details are really excellent you've got the  corvette logo embossed on the top of this drive   mode selector and it's very intuitive crank left  to go down crank right to go up between your modes and then beneath this leather panel and  again the leather extends all throughout here stitching down here on the console piece which  there are uh auxiliary usb and usb c plugs and   an sd card you can't have my wallet that's mine  in here are your cup holders and i gotta say they   look kind of small which makes me wonder if i  could fit a large water bottle and thus it's   time to start the large water bottle test do they  fit in the cup holders your large water bottles   no that's that's going to be a definite no how  about in the door pockets that looks very narrow   i mean i guess it could sit here but then you  open the door and that's gonna roll right out   center console we already saw that  but i'm thinking it's too small definitely definitely too small and we're left  with the glove box then as our last resort   i'm not optimistic about it no so it's an  outright fail for the c8 corvette in terms   of my large water bottle fitting here if  you've got a nalgene size bottle good luck   just gonna have to sit on your passenger seat  or make your passenger hold it if you have one speaking of glove box it took me a while to  figure out that that's actually where you   release it from i looked all around i'm like  oh there's got to be a handle down here nope   that's your glove box over there  you press it and it releases continuation of the quality materials we've  got this contrast stitching up here and genuine   leather up top looks and feels superb the 2lt  package also comes with a digital rear view camera   so even though this is a blind spot you  can see right through it that's nifty and then we have these sun visors that do slide although  the angle is kind of interesting so this   is my head this is almost if i'm going to  slide it almost comes right into my head but alas they work and then we  get to the passenger compartment   so i think we just need to go sit in the  passenger seat so you can really see for   yourself whether it is indeed a coffin like the  internet says it is here's what we're looking at   clearly not a lot to entice you to keep you  engaged as a passenger but that's very similar   to other supercars it's all about the driver  but getting into this cabin what do we got   first off you do have a place to put your arm  the driver's arm may be sharing space with you   um but they can also rest theirs up here a bit but  you can put your arm here so you do have a place   to put your arm and then when the door is closed  got another spot here leg space not a problem you   at least have this brush metal finish here that  looks and feels high quality to look at you've got   the metal trim piece in here this piece so it's  not drab in here completely you do have stuff to   look at this piece here yes it it does jut out and  it does kind of impede on your personal space here   as a passenger but this isn't as and i mean maybe  it's the targa bringing in some light and air and   making me feel less claustrophobic but this isn't  as bad as i think the internet makes it out to be   it's not great but i would not feel like i'm  being tortured sitting here as a passenger and i think that's pretty much going to do  it for the interior of the c8 corvette i   am going to put the target top back on so you  can just see real quick what it's like with the   target on inside how dark or not let's do that  right now and there we go target top back on   looking inside the cabin darker  for sure but i would not say drab or claustrophobic like some other supercars  have made me feel for example limiting her con   it's got like a very letterbox look out the  windshield this is a raked windshield now as   a supercar but i don't feel like i'm caged  in in this car and you can see my headroom   six feet tall turn on easy six feet tall and  my seat is in the lowest possible position here   but i don't feel like headroom is an issue at all  nor is shoulder room so that is the interior of   the c8 corvette almost forgot to give you a look  at this key very important and much like the rest   of the car pretty high quality so even though  it's made of plastic it does have nice details   like the corvette logo with the red there chrome  piece accenting it more brush metal on the bottom   with corvette logo once more then on the key fob  itself we have unlock lock remote start press   that twice front trunk rear rear trunk press those  twice and the panic button so that is the key of   the corvette feels pretty heavy duty good stuff  and i think therefore it is time to rev it up well guys i've been looking forward to this for  a very very long time not just since the car   debuted and at that point i was like all right  gm has turned a corner they're trying new stuff   they're not completely chunking decades of  corvette history but they're trying new things   but it wasn't just at that point it's been kind of  my whole life my dad owned corvettes he was not an   enthusiast but that was his one car the car that  he had when he was younger man the car he really   wanted and he got two of them he had a c5 and  a c6 he started to have some health problems   getting on in here so he didn't get the c7 but i  knew growing up that the corvette meant something   so when i saw this new ca generation and i was in  a position where like hey one day i might actually   drive that i got pretty excited but to change the  formula so much from what it once was to you know   from always being a front engine rear drive  manual equipped car to now being a mid-engine   automatic only car still rear-wheel drive and  that's still fun we'll get into that in a second   but that's really a departure for gm and  you know what i think they pulled it off   really i mean for this car to start under 60 000  that's my numbing but if the car was garbage it   would be like yeah it's 60 grand but it's 60  grand worth of terribleness with four wheels   this is not that this car is really well put  together and first and foremost as a car you   were gonna drive every day it's really really  comfortable absolutely get the car that i'm   equipped magnetic ride option the suspension is  so dialed in that when you want it to perform   dial it into track mode and it really tightens  up and works with the stiffness of the chassis   and i hope there's not crazy amounts of wind  buffeting in this audio but if you don't want   it to behave like that if you're just kind of  cruising around the magnetic dampers are such   that they will just soften every blow seriously  this car rides like a luxury car and i'm not just   saying that i was just in that amg e63s wagon and  that's very much a luxury car but it rode stiffer   than this and that's great for daily driving  comfort and really you could use this car in your   commute cargo capacity also lends itself in that  favor 13 cubic feet of space is really very good   as i and as i showed in the exterior and interior  walk around it's usable space and visibility well   that's one knock against the c8 there's that  giant blind spot right there there's not much   you can do about it they do have available blind  spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert   on this 2lt equipped model that i have here but i  mean the fact that that's the only safety feature   you can get those two bundled together it's kind  of a bummer i want adaptive cruise control on   lane keep assist that would really help in  terms of making this car into more of a gt   but i can forgive them because when all is said  and done it is so livable so usable and that's   what the corvette has always been but now with  the the engine behind me and with the car low   slung as it is it really becomes the supercar  that it always kind of was inching towards   still even with the you know zr1 and the z06  in the previous generation yes it would take on   supercars but it was doing so sort of with one  air arm tie behind its back now in this setup   it doesn't have any compromises and so when  you put the car in sport or track well let's   take this one road i like this road it's a  tight fun road let's just see what it can do rates are good z51 performance package coming  in handy there a little bit of understeer but very neutral very well balanced yeah these tires are excellent as  well so much grip from the michelins the steering is really well dialed too  a lot of communication for electronic rack there's a little bit  off-center there's just a touch   of play that you're not sure what's  happening there but it's not much it's a really nice airplane corner right here yeah it doesn't want to bring the rear end around  as much it definitely wants to plow a tiny bit   but this isn't just the most aggressive setup  in the most aggressive situation i should say   only then will it show off the  weakness of understeer otherwise that's just fun otherwise this car is really  so well sorted and like many other reviewers   this gets me truly excited for the z06 that  is to come because you know they're gonna play   around with that one make it the enthusiast's  dream give it a bit of over steer when you want   it and granted i don't have the traction control  switched all the way off because it's not my car   i don't want to wreck it and uh that may help  in terms of getting the body to rotate a touch   and you may turn those off completely on the track  the fact is i'm not on a racetrack so i can't give   you those acute measurements not acute feedback  but i am on a fun road and i can tell you for sure   then i don't think there would be many situations  and i really mean this because this has been   one thing that people have said about this  new corvette is that understeers that's a   problem i don't think in many situations you're  ever going to end up with that as a complaint how does that engine sound oh yes it  only revs to 6 500 rpm it's an nav8   but i mean the noise it makes is pretty phenomenal and we haven't talked about it specifically  yet so let's talk about that engine   6.2 liter v8 like i said 495 horsepower in the zr sorry the z51  package 490 if you don't have the z51   470 pound feet of torque across  the board as i mentioned of course   only a dual clutch automatic so you can't  get the manual and the reason for that   is that because of the way they set up the chassis  there's so much torsional rigidity through this   center tunnel that if they threw in a gear lever  it would throw off that balance and you know what ah i want to give them the pass i  really do because this car is so good   and it lends itself to more the do it all grand  tour slash supercar but i really want a manual   a core event without a manual feels wrong and  maybe they'll be able to mess with that in the   c06 and give you a manual i don't think so though  i think we're stuck with it just being the hp   dual clutch automatic for all the variants  that are to come it makes me a little sad a little sad because this would be truly i mean  it already is unique for the value proposition   here it's already unique but this would be  truly so unique and offering for a mid-engine   supercar to still have a manual gearbox in 2020  that would be wild and it would truly live up   to that heritage of corvette but straight  line speed you don't need a manual for that 0-60 3.0 seconds other independent  tests have seen faster like 2.8 seconds   but 3.8 or 3.0 is wild it's so quick top speed  184 miles an hour other supercars are faster and   we should talk about them probably right now so  among the sports supercars segment we've got the   of course porsche 911 carrera s that starts  at a hundred and fifteen thousand dollars   makes less power than this zero to sixty slower  than this uh just under four seconds for that   or three and a half sorry and then the top  speed is going to be higher at 189 miles an hour   then we have the mercedes-amg gt that's a direct  rival to the 911 and definitely a competitor to   this now that starts at just a tick more than that  117 thousand dollars makes less power than this   469 i believe zero to 60 slower than this 3.88 3.9  seconds and top speed is gonna be higher at 191   and then we have the audi r8 that's going  to be jumping up in price quite a bit 172   000 but more power now than the corvette  c8 562 i believe in the non-v10 plus model   and 0-60 is going to be quicker now not quicker  than this but 3.2 seconds and top speed much   higher than this 201 miles an hour when you  think about this field of competitors that   we're talking about here and you think about how  the corvette stacks up from a numbers standpoint   really really well top speed that's really the  only thing that it doesn't have on those rivals   and i mean how it makes you feel the  v10 sound from that r8 is hard to beat   but apart from that the corvette  sounds really good within that field and the driving precision is  there gm hasn't lost any of that   to the rivals now and so you have to think at 60  000 to start this is such a wild bargain a truly   mind-bending offering that they have here   and i'm so in love with it i really am even at  the as tested 78 000 that i have this one it's   such a freaking deal i'm like jazzing myself  up about this because the more i think about   it the more i'm blown away by what chevy is doing  with this car yes you can have critiques to the   exterior design i don't personally like the rear  end and yeah little niggles here in the interior   the steering wheel design is a little strange i  don't mind the squared off but the v looks kind   of strange to me this is a mid-engine supercar  that starts at under 60 000 what have they done   and it's not garbage it's really good my voice is  breaking no it's it's not garbage it's really good   and i'm so excited this car is  here i'm so excited i can drive it i'm excited that it comes in  targa you know you're gonna   want the windows down because the wind  buffeting is not great but my goodness this is perhaps as as a complete value proposition  this is my favorite car on sale you cannot spend   this money and get anywhere close to all the  things that the c8 is offering seriously i said it   i'm i'm blown away and there's a red light so  you know i'm gonna have to do launch control   to do that go into track mode already in track  mode look at that the ride's been amazing just   in track mode by the way and then you  double tap the traction control system   and then you can switch between wet or  dry dry because yeah it's not raining   and then you pin the brake at the  throttle 3500 rpm and you're gone you are gone is that a corvette next to  me i didn't even look up if it is that's funny it's either a corvette  or it's an f-type another one of these cars   rivals it's corvette it's a c7 that's  funny but yeah c8 is great end of story.
