[Music] [Applause] I'm Jason hearing over Goldberg Drive [Music] [Applause] 20:20 chevy c8 corvette okay this is pretty fast so let's start this off with a horsepower torque for this mid-engine corvette we've got 495 horsepower 470 pound-feet of torque from a 6.2 liter v8 naturally aspirated that's right and this has the Performance Exhaust which means it has five extra horsepower Florida Florida okay a couple things there number one exhaust sound a little bit too quiet and it's pumped in in this it really is they actually pump it in through the speakers so that kind of sucks but from outside it does sound really good let's listen to that right now so after listening to that I would actually recommend just getting the regular exhaust do not option the factory exhaust get yourself an aftermarket one or even better straight piped yeah a hundred percent you got to chop that thing off maybe of course the exhaust that you have on your rafter yeah it would sound incredible with a straight pipe or with the coarse exhaust next thing I noticed it doesn't rev as high as I wanted to for a mid-engine car but it is naturally aspirated it is so that's pretty cool but 6,500 rpm redline how about you go into paddle mode hit that red line for me real quick boom right there okay it is up in the higher rpms right near the red line but you know you just want a little bit more and another cool rpm thing that this thing can do that most folks can't hold both paddles now watch this most other cars can't do this you can rollin launch this thing the most important thing about a car like this is when people give you thumbs up you want to be able to rev at them exactly and you can just read about them just pull me both paddles in and on top of that you can do a rolling punch what I have not seen in any other car that we've driven and another thing say you're an automatic mode and someone gives you a thumbs up and you want to rip it punch it for me an automatic will you it shifts really quick so let's talk about this transmission because it's an 8-speed dual-clutch and it shifts so damn fast it's made by Tremec so it is a great transmission because the last c7 Corvette had a pretty bad automatic we did complain about it so they actually fixed that they fixed a lot of things this is actually a really good car I love they fix something rather than build something completely different okay fine but by building something completely different they fix everything but have you noticed that this isn't as scary as the Corvette that we drove Oh way less scarier than the C 7:06 like way less scary but this is not a zero six zero six is coming yeah for a base model this is insane and I'm pretty sure this is like as base as it gets it is we don't even have the z51 performance package or z51 performance package depending on where you're from yeah and we don't have the nose lift on this and we don't have a spoiler at the back there's a lot we're missing yeah but we still do have some relatively heavy options but at this price we are missing a bunch of stuff there but it is a mid-engine maybe supercar for under a hundred grand Canadian from North America the engines right there hey let's do the supercar checklist okay because is this supercar I don't know okay is it fast [Music] it's decently fast but not crazy fast does it sound good it sounds okay decently sound good yeah super sound good I wouldn't give both of those a pass does it have a gimmicky steering wheel oh absolutely it's a skwerkel it's a square that's pretty cool we'll get it later but it does have it yes do the doors go up they'll not they don't come on but how cool would it be if it did would be super cool it would probably put it into supercar territory it would for sure do you look cool getting in or out I mean kind of look cooler than a front-engine Corvette yeah does it get a lot of attention yeah it gets a hell of a lot of attention so we're in Vegas right now Chevy flew us out to test-drive this thing just like all the other journalists have been doing it yeah so if you've seen any other content on this car from Vegas it's from the same event it's honestly a pretty hectic event so what's going on yeah we're doing our best to cover it some of the track stuff we haven't filmed yet but everyone in Vegas is super stoked thumbs up everyone looking I don't know if this attentions going to last like a McLaren Ferrari would but right now this is the hottest thing on the road this is super hot right now okay then some other tests cupholder test it will fit a small cup just fine here's a water bottle that's what it looks like so that's a supercar fail definitely a supercar fail and now the most important test the visor test super girls usually don't pass they're not supposed to three two one oh my Wow that's a fail this is ha wait pre-production holden ute mid-engine corvette visor test three two one ah oh we have to drive it now box test we didn't bring our boxes carry on test it's way too good at storing carry-ons this is not a super this is not a supercar but it's probably the most supercar you can get for under a hundred grand 100% it is this is an incredible car and I think the set oh six or the set r1 will potentially yeah that's for the future so this is not a supercar there you have it next thing that's been bothering me about this car the ticking behind me which is from the direct injection I believe so it's just constantly ticking like you probably can't hear it on the audio but I'll try and pick it up right now somebody gonna shut up and you probably didn't hear that but trust me it is ticking behind my head the entire time it's kind of annoying but I mean you are in a mid-engine Corvette and this is a pre-production unit so that ticking might not be there in the final production that's right we should probably talk about the looks obviously mid-engine so a lots changed they move the engine from the front to the back which change the entire shape of the car do you like the shape I like the front I don't like the back okay I like all the looks except for straight on the back why it just looks too Camaro II to me exactly that's my pull problem with it it looks like a Camaro I think they need circle taillights but overall it looks really good front end kind of like a McLaren GT oh very much so like a McLaren GT but it is also very Corvette and it's also kind of very Lambo as well it's good if we got cool headlights like overall no issues really I think it's okay I think they should have done a little bit better with the front end but the headlights are pretty cool we got more models coming I know that's true the base running up the mid-cycle refresh that's true man it just came out yeah barely yeah okay side view side view is pretty cool that's where you can really see the mid-engine shape okay on some of them you have a black body panel I really like the black panel there I think looks really cool and the craziest part is when you open the door you got to be careful walking around that because it sticks out way beyond the door yeah like nice big aggressive hard bulky shapes and what do you think of these wheels I mean it's all right there no solid shooters yeah they're definitely based model wheels but they look all right I think there are gonna be way cooler wheels and what is the Continental recommended tire for the c8 Corvette the extreme contact sport and then if we move on to the very back we can see the engine through the glass yeah which is really cool however seeing the engine through the glass inside is a pain in the butt yeah yeah you get weird reflections but if you look at the very top there's a camera which you can see from the rear view mirror yeah so like other Chevy products and Cadillacs like they have this mirror thing in here but it hurts my eyes to look at that so I would never use the same here I'd rather just deal with they're behind me and we got a little stingray badge back there as well because old Corvettes are still stingrays and this particular one also has an engine dress-up package for a thousand dollars uh people got to see it might as well make it look good thousand US dollars I should say because we are in America and then we've got double dual exhaust had double duals they look pretty cool and they sound all right look we said but they are squared off so I don't know if I'm a fan though a back end is a little too squared off it's like they took a lot of Italian design out of what a mid-engine would look like either the front is all like rounded in Nice shapes and the backs all squared like it feels like it was designed by two different people I'm sure it wasn't yeah but I maybe they have to accommodate for the convertible version which is coming out a little bit later and by the way you can actually remove this roof as well so you undo three clips and you can store it in the trunk which is awesome can we talk about the interior with me behind the wheel sure but one more rip and this thing's nice oh that torque I love that torque feed me some brakes what about more throttle okay pretty good under brakes all right let's get at you in here last time okay this is pretty fast I don't feel like McLaren Lambo supercar fast it is not a mclaren Lambo even though it's mid-engine it's also not mclaren Lambo price and there's also a way to do brake stands in this car with the dual clutch so when you're stopped you put in both paddles and then you rev it out and then you let off and it'll spin then you got to put your foot back on the brake and then it shuts off like I was flat on both pedals Jacob why is this so hard as soon as I hit the gas and the brake I slam them and then it cuts power completely [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right much easier to do that but it kind of sucks that you can't just do break gas burn oh yeah no longer you can't do that no but the future is now you know what I mean I guess so let's get it to the interior this is a nice color I think it's very old man's back yeah but I mean Corvettes are an old man's back yes they are the most noticeable thing is that the whole cockpit is focused around the driver we've got the infotainment that pretty much faces me we've got a digital dash and then we've got all of our climate stuff right here yeah I feel like I'm in my own little cocoon over here which I absolutely hate so if you buy this and you go with your wife or your husband or whatever they're gonna hate sitting in the passenger seat yeah but you're gonna really like the drivers oh yeah you will and the materials in this interior are actually so nice everything that looks metal or carbon fiber or leather is all of those materials for the first time ever in a Chevy maybe yeah no it looks very premium it's almost like luxury car ish almost like it's very very good like this and the LC 500 I've sat in one haven't driven well I haven't reviewed one but I feel like it's a similar style of luxury yeah like the plastic in the cupholder area is real plastic okay and then how about the seats the seats are really comfortable and we have the optional gt2 seats there are three seat choices available I love these seats like everything in this car is comfortable yeah the suspension is really comfortable the seats are really comfortable everything about this is geared for comfort like Grand Touring so getting into the steering wheel real quick it's like squared circle what you call skwerkel there's a lot of room to see the gauges like nothing no part of the steering wheel blocks it I think it's a little awkward to hold but I got used to it really quickly yeah most definitely but when you're driving you know you want to keep your hands at 9:00 and 3:00 and then like do proper or crossovers and everything yeah for sure so like it's fine for that you know what I mean yeah and the paddles are really nice yeah full metal all the way up and down I mean they're not color matched to the car like this as you drove but I think this is classier this is way classier and the fact that they shift so quickly I just love that and then we've got a line that's color matched interior at the top the whole shape the stitching everything on this is very good and there's a bunch of buttons on the steering wheel one of them being said mode or z mode which actually is a separate customizable drive mode because Z is like the Chevrolet fast version but anyways that exists then there's my mode and then there are also four regular drive modes and the craziest thing is this is super both in track yeah it really is so this one does not have the adjustable suspension no and it's really good this doesn't have Magna ride and honestly this is really good so if you don't option it I think you'll be just fine be 100% fine unless you want to track it then probably a Magna ride so we've just done a whole bunch of driving on the track with the c8 yeah it turns out it's actually really fast on the track and very well composed it handles really well it's really really fast - thumbs up for the Corvette with the z51 package on the track and the Magna ride and then if we move on to our gauges they change with all of our drive modes as well and so does the head-up display the best obviously is track mode because then you get the tack that goes all the way across but every mode is good the gauges are like actually great yeah the only issue I have with the gauges is the transitions between the gauges are a little bit laggy but the gauges themselves once you're in those modes are amazing and there's also one other gauge mode that we haven't mentioned and it's called stealth mode yes so when you're driving at night it won't blind you with light it pretty much just shows your speed oh yeah which is pretty cool it's like a Saab thing from old GM days how about our infotainment oh my god it's not laggy they improved so much yeah it's very smooth I don't mind it it's got apple carplay Android auto it doesn't have her whining satellite radio stations or tune mix the competition the McLaren GT does have tune mix but that's also a lot more money well that's probably because of the tuner yeah two hundred thousand dollars that must be it the resolution is also really good we also have a backup camera and a front camera but no 360 camera yeah I guess that's where you save costs yeah let's find though and the reverse camera and everything is so high resolution probably the highest resolution of any GM product oh for sure it is and then as for the rest of the interior we've got an armrest with a little glovebox you can fit enough stuff there's a cellphone holder back there as well that's pretty cool and we've got the Bose performance sound system yeah which is really loud yeah they said it's the loudest sound system they've ever put in a Chevrolet and I don't doubt it yeah I wouldn't want to crank this one too much and the last thing with the interior is the driving position itself because the engines now in the back this does have a mortgage audit car feel and it feels like the nose is a lot shorter very similar to the McLaren field yeah I'm gonna be honest with you I love the feel of driving a car with a shorter hood like driving a Viper would probably stress me out more than this yeah this is amazing the driving position is great and so with the interior out of the way Yury rip it for me okay pretty quick if we did a zero to sixty mile per hour run with the z51 performance package that would have been 2.9 seconds [Music] that's very fast for under a hundred grand that is supercar territory for sure and I think without the package it's around three to three point one kind of thing three point two so with all that fun stuff out of the way more fun stuff we haven't really touched on handling too much URI send it into cliched Nevada corner for me how does that feel very confident but way more confident than the front-engine one yeah so the steering is actually pretty firm especially in track mode but you can customize that and honestly the steering feel is very good I really like it I actually feel like I know what I'm doing and I don't feel like I'm gonna spin out as fast as I would have in a c7 yeah and it's really flat there's not much body roll and this doesn't even have that z51 package and it's not even those no.6 like I can't believe this is a base model yeah this is honestly this is gonna kill oh I know how many times I've probably said that in this review and I'm probably gonna regret it later but I can't believe this is a base model so I think that's pretty much it for the new mid-engine Corvette so let's get to the price starts at fifty eight thousand nine hundred dollars u.s. because we are in America America and this one aspect out 278 thousand eight hundred and twenty dollars u.s. and if we were back in Canada the starting price is sixty nine and nine nine eight which is very good very nice so realistically you can't get anything else mid engine for that price no you can't that's a lie you can get used Fieros I think this is gonna be the new Fiero I'm thinking they're gonna put body gets on this and make them Ferraris and stuff like McLaren body kits yeah yeah I can see that this is the best thing you can get for that price and it's so fast but it only comes on automatic yeah which totally sucks but the best thing is how good the automatic transmission is yeah it's actually really great I think it's actually better than the gt500 dual clutch I feel better in this than the gt500 but I think I might have been a little more scared for my life in the gt500 which is also better because when we're exciting it is crazy but that's also more expensive and something we forgot to talk about for looks-wise this or a c7 Corvette what looks better okay this versus a bass c7 this looks way better this versus 0-6 of the previous generation I'm not sure recourse at r1 yeah I think the previous generation but that's because this one doesn't exist yet I I think this will look better over time like I would rather have a mid-engine car than a front-engine car to be honest yeah it is pretty special it makes it that much cooler so this compared to like a McLaren or a Ferrari or a lamb but any other mid-engine supercar is it worth saving up like three or four or five times more to get that instead of this man I oh no it depends what you value if you value the crazy exoticness of the engine sounds and the crazy italian as' then probably but you just want the value of the performance then this is the one to get which is crazy to say and definitely for the next year if you have this you're going to get Lambo Ferrari McLaren levels of attention yeah so performance $4 this is nuts so let us know what you think of the new CA Corvette is it better than every other Corvette and how does it compare the Lambos
