[Music] hey guys what's up it's joe rady from radius rise we're here at virginia international raceway this is the big media event that cadillac is doing for a car so many people have been waiting for including this guy right here this is it this is the all-new 2022 cadillac ct5v blackwing but before we get into this supercharged performance sedan let's talk about what's going on here that great american brand cadillac known for so many different models of varying luxury style and of course performance now in this performance sedan segment it is jam packed with tough competition obviously a lot of that competition is coming specifically from those german eurobrands bmw audi mercedes-benz amg just to name a few what cadillac wanted to do with their last of the internal combustion engine powered performance sedans is go out with a bang in a very very good way and that was the whole reasoning behind the black wing now the great news is not only do we have a supercharged v8 which those engines are disappearing very quickly from the automotive landscape we also have another piece of technology been around for decades upon decades but also disappearing as well the manual transmission so what i want to do with this review is i want to find out has cadillac done enough with the blackwing to make this the top competitor in that performance sports sedan segment and it's interesting because with the ct5v blackwing you could actually throw this a couple different ways when it comes to certain manufacturers for example let's focus with bmw with this review we could say bmw m3 competition or we could also put it up against the mighty bmw m5 so let's find out is this the performance sedan to buy or should you be going with that m5 or an m performance car from bmw that iconic german brand let's find out let's dive into our 2022 ct5v blackwing right off the bat the style you're going to see a lot of familiarity because obviously the ct5 has been around now for a couple years and you're gonna get that same element of the great style with the headlight housing very small in size full led especially with the daytime running lamp now when you go blackwing this is when you're going to get massive functionality you're going to have these open air intakes on the four corners far corners of the front fascia that's going to help channel in air even on the bottom portion that side air curtain we have that massive carbon fiber splitter this car produces zero lift because remember this car can do over 200 miles per hour so all of this arrow is functional plus it looks drop dead sexy you'll notice the gurney flap on the side of the fender that's going to help channel the air over and around the fender opening and give us that optimal down force that we want without creating too much drag coming across the front dragging ourselves across the front end of the business you're going to get that v series grill i love all the intricate design how they transform this you look at a ctsv which this car obviously replaces you have that v series grille but they took it up to a new level hollowing all of these individual elements out the design is actually meant to grab not just flow air more but grab the air and pull it through to all the different heat exchangers and remember this has received a bunch of heat exchangers on top of the ct5v platform because of all that extra performance which creates heat on the downside lower end you have full functionality looking really clean all the different v elements even in the splitter the way that they did the weave of the carbon fiber is to go in that v direction it's all the fine tuning details that make this such a standout when you look at the inner corner vents so we talked about the outer on the inner side they pulled out the front fascia to kind of grab that air and bring it in that's going to be for the brake cooling these are the toughest strongest brakes ever put on a cadillac product and we have some big news with the first time availability of carbon ceramic brake rotors now when we get up onto the hood you'll notice that bulge a lot of people are disappointed because there is no heat extractor like the cts-v now all hope is not lost there's a reason behind that this vehicle is a different size than the cts-v and there therefore they had to do some different tuning now if you're comparing this to a bmw product bmw also does a lot of wind tunnel wind tunnel testing but you know what i really think that with cadillac they take it up another notch with adding a lot more functionality and those attention to detail from the front of the business the cadillac really checks off a lot of boxes that i think you're looking for and also this guy's looking for now as we come around the bend what are we working with wheel and tire setup so we're going to get these beautiful 19 inch forged alloy wheels you're going to actually have different wheel options to choose from and as you can see we have different colors we have this bronze edition set up looking great with the white calipers so you're going to get six piston brembo calipers there's four different colors to choose from i'm digging the blueberry style gonna clamp down on like i said first time ever carbon ceramic rotors well over 15 inches in diameter cuts down on the rotating mass so that rotating mass you're looking at over 60 pounds lighter than the steel brake setup cross drilled fully ventilated we got pilot sport 4s tires from michelin gonna give us that great stick and then of course that magnetic ride suspension has been fine-tuned and elevated to give the perfect amount of compression and rebound damping all four corners to keep this cadillac planted because remember we got a rear wheel drive cadillac plant platform now coming down the side you got your v series badge looking great there is our new heat extractor it's actually built into the fender so you have flared fenders bigger flare than a ct5 or a ct5v standard and with this black wing that's going to channel that hot air out from underneath the hood down the side of the vehicle you'll notice we have that side sill extension all fine-tuned like a violin for aerodynamic efficiency to give us the downforce we have a panoramic sunroof this one i'm going to have to zonk i wish they would have blacked out the whole roof so you do have the optional panoramic sunroof which is nice but it would have been great to black out the whole roof especially with our particular white edition another thing that's not my favorite is the amount of gloss black in this rear quarter area i wish they would have made this a quarter window rather than just the gloss black but as we drop down what do we got wider width on the tires so these are wider than a ctsb this replaces the ctsb you're going to have 19-inch but it's 305s out back to get the power to the ground still getting massive four-piston brembo calipers with the carbon ceramic brake rotors you can't get that on your bmw m3 or m5 coming around the back we're going to top it off with a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler nice high out attitude to it to give us that down force that we want that we need at the track and then dropping it all the way down what do we have we have our v series badge and then we got this quad tip exhaust what's wonderful about the exhaust system is that it's not a dual mode it's actually a multi-mode level to give you that fine-tuned sound with that rear diffuser underneath the vehicle is all this extra tunnel arrow to help bring the car stick it to the ground but i just love the width that flared fender look with the led lighting looks really sinister why don't we go ahead let's pop the hood and see that supercharged v8 of an lt4b all right guys we got cars on track the blackwings i could hear the v8 rumbles and it's perfect timing as they're on track about to go by because we got the hood open on our ct5v blackwing love all the design elements you're gonna have this massive strut top mount brace thicker than the steel used on the brooklyn bridge with the v series badge i hear the supercharged v8s go by right about now on track love the tasteful blower that you have that supercharger cover up top with the handcrafted signature of the person that built it right in good old bowling green kentucky this is that lt4 v8 even the way they added this v style piece of engine cover here with the cadillac badge just gives it that extra clean style and separates it from when you pop the hood on a z06 corvette or the mighty zl1 and 1le but what are we looking at you're looking at a 6.2 liter lt4 supercharged v8 now producing 668 horsepower remember the cts-v produced 640 horsepower 659 pound-feet of torque we have the optional tremec 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic electronic limited slip diff the car weighs around 40 100 pounds and if you want performance time numbers let me give you some of those numbers with the automatic 0 to 60 in about 3.4 seconds if you know how to dance on your twinkle toes 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds top speed a tad over 200 miles per hour mpgs with the automatic that we have 13 in the city 22 on the highway you have those 15.7 inch rotors which are the largest rotors ever put and you could even do a magnesium wheel option when you look at the air intake system they lowered the restriction to get more air into that massive throttle body but you know what let's go ahead let's fire up our blackwing v8 beast and hear what it sounds like all right guys we're inside the new ct5v blank wing we're comparing this to the m3 the m5 i know you're saying yourself well joe this thing is one bad mamma jamma i love the way that it looks i love the way that it's got that v8 power how much is it unbelievably starting price for the ct5e blackwing is eighty four thousand nine hundred ninety dollars max out that option spec sheet you're looking around 125 000 remember we're comparing it to that bmw m5 let's see what we get to the door panels clean styling akg premium sound system nice mixture of carbon fiber alcantara to give you the sporty performance but also the luxury style and details that cadillac wants to bring to the table door pockets a little small so maybe just keep it to one boston cream and a bottle of milk but you know what you're not eating in my black wing ever going from the door panel to the dash more carbon fiber spilled all over the place we got the stitch work looking great and what do you get you get a little over 10 inches of infotainment system now if you're comparing this to the m5 you can get a little larger size screen but i really believe that the operating software system that gm uses is very intuitive great camera resolution and quality you do have that carbon flash metallic material which is pretty good at hiding fingerprints working your way down ac vent you're going to have dual climate control heated seats and ventilated seats of course you got your wireless charging and we do have wireless apple carplay wireless android auto a little tiny cubby here for some jolly ranchers your mode selector switch and then this is going to control that 10 speed automatic it's a traditional torque converter automatic which remember the m5 has an 8-speed automatic zf 8-speed automatic this has the 10-speed nice style on the shifter of course the nice soft material you open up the door what do we have we have a blue key fob why is it blue it matches the break color of the calipers that really is that nice personalized touch with the buttons of course we have remote start and it's crazy how that extra color with the v-series badge makes the key fob just look super sexy of course you're going to have your little mode selector knob here to go through the infotainment if you don't want to use the touch screen carbon fiber and then you have some beautiful leather here it is very hard but it looks absolutely stunning and then when you open it up you got usbc usb and a 12v and you could easily put a million dollars no not in cash in 100 grand bars and you would think that this car costs a million bucks with the way that it's done but thankfully it doesn't speak of the seats they're worth every bit of its weight in gold look at the style one-piece sportbacks with the v-series badge the piping love the style look at all the different detail with this diamond pleated stitching the bolstering of course full electric assist for the passenger and the driver and the 5v blackwing has massage seats so you could be turning your fast laps and getting a little bit of a massage to keep you going we have that soft alcantara style material up top and then like i pointed out this one has that split panoramic style sunroof easy to use nice reaction and then that other bit of technology that the bmw doesn't have digital rear view mirror look at the resolution you could watch rady's rides through your rear view mirror and that's virginia international raceway right there really cool that they have that technology let me get it just right sounds good coming over the business end i got a steering wheel with some carbon fiber i want to introduce you to come on over all right guys business time you got two memory seat settings love the v series badging that illuminates nice led lighting silver sill plate you're gonna have your foot box with aluminum depth pedal brake pedal and throttle guess what bmw doesn't give you aluminum dead pedal i know that doesn't sound like a big deal but it just looks so finished and complete nice foot box love how easy it is to get to the controls the bolstering holds you so nicely plenty of headroom and then the steering wheel bmw does make a great steering wheel cadillac though raise the annie look at this alcantara all the way around you have your individual serial serial number for your particular black wing carbon fiber we got the v button as soon as you hit v button i'll show you what that does in a second metal pedals so unlike the bmw you get plastic these are metal paddles to go up and down that 10-speed automatic and then look at this beautiful tft digital display so much better when it comes to its resolution and information and then watch when i hit the v button you ready to rock and roll boom everything goes into the track settings that you have set up look at how the tack is across the top all of the graphics information you have that extra knob where you could go through your performance traction levels all on the steering wheel bmw does not have that race car style touch like this has but why don't we go ahead let's get in the back seat and see how your passengers are going to feel as they're going over 200 miles an hour with you in your ct5v black hi guys here we are in the backseat great news is while we were here with cadillac we did both this automatic and the six-speed manual so make sure you check out that other review but you know what in the back seat area you're getting a good amount of room it is a little tight headroom wise but nothing that's too scary or i feel claustrophobic what i do love backs of the seats that single back race style seat with the v series badge and that alcatera looking drop dead sexy you do have two rear ac vents of course a 12 volt and a usbc no pockets for any snacks but you know what like i said you're not eating in my black wings so i don't care arm rests nice and soft like a sticky pair of michelin tires see what i did there two cupholders look at this look at this beautiful artwork the seat is absolutely stunning but why don't we go ahead let's get into that trunk and see what we could haul at 200 miles an hour in our black guys one of the best parts about the sedan is that you do have performance but you also have usable trunk space so you have around 11.6 cubic feet of space you do have the availability to fold the seats down which are great and of course you have that little nook area for the track snacks when you're at a race track like we are at virginia international raceway but you know what if you're ready this guy's ready hold on tight because we're going on throttle in our ct 5v blackwing all right guys we're in the ct 5v blackwing i've been waiting for this i'm so glad you're here of course we need to start with some on throttle so right now i have it i hit the v button it's gonna adjust everything the way that i have it set up personalized for me and then we're going to do some on throttle action but if you're ready i'm ready audrey here we go yeah look at that nice i tell you that electronic limited slip dip has a lot of hard work to do to get all that power 668 horsepower to the ground does it so effectively to minimize that tire spin to get us going you do have line lock and you do have launch control that's both for the automatic and for the six-speed manual so they really have you covered technology wise in this black wing of course when it comes to setting up the controls you have an electric tilting and telescoping steering wheel wonderful feedback and the way that cadillac was able to balance the sport and performance side of things but also what a cadillac is about it's all about that nice ride quality the interior noise that isn't going to be big and booming they did a lot of noise cancellation they used a lot of technology to allow you to hear that pure true v8 supercharged sound in this ct5v blackwing but going down the road here even though it's not a super smooth road you're not bouncing all over the place and that's another thing that the engineers really focused on was it wasn't about making the stiffest most bouncy vehicle that they could make because that's not going to make a great track performance car necessarily so they really found the balance between having the performance but also having that everyday live ability where it's not going to shake your internal organs but i thought here we go look at that fast ships that 10 speed believe it or not the 10 speed automatic is actually faster shifting than the pdk that mighty dual clutch transmission in the porsches cars like the 911 this 10 speed actually shifts quicker believe it or not and it is a conventional like i told you a conventional 10 speed automatic with a torque converter all right guys i want to shift with those metal paddles from a dead stop audra here we go the traction control doing his thing yeah golly the head up display is awesome so you're getting the information on the dash but you're also getting the head up display i know you're probably saying well joe what are you missing because it sounds like you really are liking this black wing what what do you feel is missing the one thing i feel that is missing is this supercharger wine even uh a little bit i'm not hearing any and it's interesting because on the outside when the cars are going around the track you could clearly hear the supercharger wine so i'm very curious why cadillac decided not to bring some of that sound i mean they did a great job with the exhaust but just a little supercharger wine would have been nice so that's one thing that definitely is missing but the feedback you get to the steering wheel as we're going down this road i mean is wonderful you got a massive gear indicator downshifts are super fast and smooth brakes i mean we got the carbon ceramic brake package so that speaks for itself right there i mean look at this into this right sweeper here nice balance compose ah here we go i tell you unbelievable they are definitely going out with a huge bang in this black wing as the last of the internal combustion engines but this is what it's all about being on a nice ribbon a road enjoying yourself being comfortable we got ventilated seats the seats are so great with support plus you have that ability to personalize everything which is wonderful as well throttle sensitivity is great you're able to adjust through the pcm management system all the different settings to really allow you to uh to take full advantage of everything but let me i'm going to actually shut off the traction control and we're going to do a launch from a dead stop just to show you how good the system is and i'm going to use the paddle so if you're ready i'm ready bro here we go smoking baby got him jeez louise [Music] where's my towel i don't have my blue towel because we're on a media trip so i got this white one wow it makes your heart pitter patter in such a good way and just the whole experience the stiffening that they've done the bracing at the front end of the vehicle at the rear of the vehicle and then of course that magnetic ride suspension really is that perfect blending whereas if you compare this to my zl11le the 1l8 would not be as smooth over these roads it'd be a lot more bouncy and i wouldn't feel as confident or comfortable they really worked on the suspension with the magnetic ride 4.0 and you feel good you feel confident and that's what allows you to turn up the wick it's not about necessarily just having more horsepower because we all know there's cars out there with more horsepower but it's about using the horsepower that you have and you're definitely able to use it like this here we go look at this unbelievable on the brakes pedal feedback as you would expect is so on point nice and firm good feedback for that trail breaking action look at this sweeper just holds a line so consistent and then you just roll back on it wow this is what it's all about um all right guys let's talk about what's going on here the balance the power the transmission everything just all comes together the cadillac team of enthusiasts did one hell of a job this is freaking an amazing car so much you're getting performance the whole nine yards technology luxury style this is it but if you're ready i'm ready let's wrap this one up been a
