[Music] we have spent about 20 days travelling in the RV throughout Alaska and we're spending around 20 more we've already learned so much about what it means to travel through this ginormous state and it is really hard to tackle in one trip so we wanted to make this video for you if you're planning on coming here in an RV but also if you just want to come to Alaska in general and you have a limited time even if you're considering a cruise traveling mile and flying in we've learned a lot just by being here [Music] the number one question you need to ask yourself when planning your Alaskan vacation is why do you want to come here maybe that's self-explanatory but I think that is one of the most important questions for this specific location out of any place that we've been in the world if you don't really know the answer to that question you might want to really think about do you want to come here this is a very specific vocation for people who have something specific in mind if Alaska just looks like a cool pretty place and you're not really sure I want you to first understand what it's like to be here before you decide to come here but timpossible reasons you might want to come to Alaska you're a fisherman fisherman kayaker like just embracing the outdoors that's why you'd want to come just lots of outdoor stuff and knowing what that content right something specific noticed timid very specific ideas Alaska is a great vacation for you if you have always wanted to see a glacier up close and kayak to one where of course not the first people to tell you that Alaska is known for its fishing but those are concrete reasons of why you would come here so now that you've narrowed down the why some reasons to keep you out of Alaska it is really far things are more expensive here everything is so so spread out especially if you're just kind of meandering around and the weather for us since we've got here is rain every day but like one or two and it's just it's cold and rainy and it's summer it's August it should be hot if you are here to go salmon or halibut fishing and it's raining like no big deal but if you're here because you're like oh my god the pictures look so pretty we've been here for 20 days like Tim said it has rained every single day that we have been here it hasn't rained the whole day every day it's raining every single day then we have been hearing okay you have your wife now I have good news for you that's going to make our tenor Airy planning really easy although Alaska is ginormous it really can be narrowed down into three different categories that are all relatively small areas category number one interior and northern Alaska this includes Fairbanks this is an entryway for a lot of people driving from the lower 48 it could be Alaskan Highway that comes to the Yukon Territory and on your way to Fairbanks north of Fairbanks there is only one road it turns into the Dalton Highway and goes all the way up to Deadhorse and Prudhoe Bay Tim does do this drive on a motorcycle so you can go visit his motorcycle trip in this video here as if that's a huge bucket list item and very famous Road if you you know Ice Road Truckers if that if driving on this crazy dangerous road isn't on your bucket list you do not need interior or northern Alaska that does however put us at Denali National Park Denali National Park you cannot drive your own private vehicle into the park and you jump on a bus and the bus takes you further into the park now on that route there's only one road and you're essentially driving towards Denali with the highest peak in North America we did a very limited tour to Denali we checked out the sled dog shed the sled dog kennels and I wouldn't even call it like we went to Denali almost at all and the reason we did invest a ton of time and we have nothing fun time to throw out there is just even if you take the loss out there it's still extremely unlikely you're gonna actually see the mountain it's something like only 30 percent of the people who do that so Denali could be great in its own right especially if you get good father but after hitting up places like BAM and just being in the Yukon and everything it feels like just kind of more of the same which I'm sure it's not the case but it just it wasn't worth it we did Yellowstone we did bad regatta and plus with the heavy pepper like there was no good place anymore to board her there there and we could do any hikes or there so what we could get out of our Park experience was pretty women which is sad I guess I'm sure some people haven't awesome we definitely do not want to discount Denali at all I'm sure everyone who goes love their experience there there's so much wildlife you can see there but you could also argue we're here in Alaska honestly like we're seeing bears every other day here it's incredible so there's there's there's wildlife all over the other really hard part about adding Denali into your itinerary is there is just nothing around there Talkeetna is a really cute town that's the closest to Denali it's maybe still like a 45-minute drive if you are planning anything shorter than a two-week vacation to Alaska I do not recommend adding and Denali to your two year itinerary just because it is so remote and you're going to spend two days traveling to there and then from there so you're one day in Denali ends up being three days of your vacation and even driving on those roads to and from Denali from Anchorage is just kind of like a straight shot flat construction boring drive [Music] in our opinion if you're flying or driving to Alaska you really can have that total Alaska experience just by visiting the Kenai Peninsula here's eight quick reasons one people fly in from all over the world just to fish for salmon in the Russian River - if you're looking for other fishing you can always book halibut fishing out a homer or seaward Seward three Kenai Fjords National Park is home to the Harding Icefield and its thirty outflowing glaciers or nearly forty glaciers the National Park site actually set both numbers we can all agree that's a lot of ice for the key night is packed with wildlife bald eagles whales orcas sea otters sheep bears just to name a few if you're bad at spotting from wildlife as we are you can always visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and see just about everything including musk ox which might be our new favorite friends number five in the Kenai Peninsula alone you'll find some of the Alaska's best Museum and Aquarium and again the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center you should seriously go here they have musk ox again which are awesome six this is also one of the best jump off points for scenic flights or seaplane adventures including a trip over to Katmai National Park home of the famous Brooks Falls / brown bear viewing maybe you can get a shot of a fish going in a bears mouth we didn't seven the Alaska Railroad comes down here for a reason it's a beautiful train ride which we didn't take ourselves but we saw them next to us on the road pretty often and the road was a beautiful drive therefore the train must be a beautiful ride also online reviews for the train say it's absolutely incredible finally number eight whether you're hoping to explore mountains or ocean from coastal rain forest round seaward to the rough Arctic chill of glaciers flowing off the Harding Icefield there's a huge range of diversity here our last Alaska region is southeast Alaska also referred to as Alaska's Panhandle it's popular and all the cruises leaving out of Seattle or Vancouver the fjords sounds and mountains here make this region incredibly beautiful but incredibly hard to get to in fact you can only access to towns by land so let me introduce you to the Alaska Marine Highway which is the system of ferries and the main method of travel in this region you can book a ticket for both you and your car and even come up from Seattle all the way here in your own vehicle this totally would have been our first choice for either the drive up or coming back down from Alaska but with our sweet baby angel pepper dogs are not allowed on the passenger deck and have to stay in the vehicle and some of those ferry passages between towns can be from eight to even 24 hours which wasn't gonna work for our little fluff ace but here there's great spots check out like Ketchikan Juneau Glacier Bay National Park Skagway and Haines but it just wasn't practical for us with a dog and that's it why well there's lots more towns and islands all over the state of Alaska but those are really the only places that are practical to access via land or flying into Fairbanks Anchorage or Juneau or taking a cruise if you're new to our
