IPv6 - Neighbor Discovery Protocol

hello and this is sunny welcome back today my topic is neighbor discovery protocol or NDP similar to IP we force up address resolution protocol ipv6 NDP is used to discover each other on a local network like to get the link layer addresses available hosts or the connection information available routers NDP operates at the link layer of OSI model it performs the following functions such as performs stateless Auto configuration of addresses for an interface stateless Auto configuration is an important feature of the ipv6 protocol it allows a node to connect to the internet without a DHCP server address resolution mapping from IP address to a physical address neighbor are a reach ability detection or AUD which determines that neighbor is no longer reachable on the link and a duplicate address detection or diedie by which nose can check where the IP address is already use NDP uses ICMP v6 internet control message protocol version 6 which is integral part of ipv6 icmpv6 is used by ipv6 and notes to report error messages and performs informational functions NDP includes five icmpv6 packet types one router solicitation or RS - router advertisement or ra3 neighbor solicitation or as4 neighbor advertisement or a file redirect or redirect message let me use the some examples to demonstrate how NDP works suppose a computer sate wants to connect an ipv6 network it will send an all router multicast to request a message to locate routers on the local link basically the multicast messages simply says any router on the link I needed addressing information this request message is called router solicitation or RS router solicitation encloses some header information such as icmpv6 type which is 133 source address is a link local address of a computer C destination address is all router multicast address so that all routers on the link can hear this request which is basically saying I want to help address information in response to router solicitation both the router one and Rotter two replies with an all node multicast packet called router advertisement or RA this RA header includes information such as icmpv6 type source address and a destination address which uses all node multicast address so that every node can hear this message the are a message typically includes the following information ipv6 prefixes that a nose on the local link can use to automatically configure their ipv6 addresses to addresses other configuration method stateless or stateful default gateway information and additional information such as hop limit and maximum transmission unit or MTU actually every router periodically Modi casts our router advertisement to all notes whenever a new node since a router soul is teaching message routers will send their advertisement immediately without waiting for next advertisement scheduled now let me talk about neighbor solicitation neighbor solicitation is used by notes to determine the link layer address of a neighbor or to verify the neighbor is still reachable for example if a computer a wants to know MAC address of a computer B computer a saint's of a neighbor solicitation package this packet header information includes icmpv6 type which is 1/3 fire sauce address is computer ace unique hostages a destination address is a beast so listed note multicast address the neighbor solicitation contains request something like what's your marriages when computer B gets the neighbor solicitation it replies with neighbor advertisement the neighbor advertisement header information includes icmpv6 type which is one three six computer piece unicast at a source address destination address is computer ace unicast the packet includes computer piece MAC address last but not least redirect a rotor sends a rhetoric message to inform of host of a better first hope note on the path to the destination the better first hope could be a different router or the destination itself for example when computers say since packets to Roger one rotor one sense redirect message back to computer say telling it to use the router - instead to send is packets a redirect message is an ICMP we six packet with a type 137 source address is ipv6 link local address rod one designation is computer sees low colleges target address is link local address our router to the target address is the IP address a will better first hope to use in summary the ipv6 NDP uses Internet control message protocol version 6 and so listed node multicast addresses to find a link layer address of a neighbor on a local network I hope this video is helpful thank you very much and see you next time oh don't forget to subscribe you [Music]
