cannot wait to get to know you and talk to you and if you guys are watching this on YouTube my computer's over to the side so I'm like looking at Morgan but trying to focus on so we're trying to make it work all righty so Morgan graduated from you USC which I thought was La USC no University of South Carolina in 2020 Morgan works with project scientist a nonprofit that helps make stem accessible to all girls across the country she's a former competitive dancer of 15 years that's incredible and she's newly engaged after dating for four years so exciting also as you guys know she was a missusa 20202 okay confusing though because I was never Miss USA in 2022 exactly it was same with like the Miss Universe my year she was any we'll get into all that later welcome Morgan I am so excited that you are here as my first missusa guest we'll have other Miss USA and all the things but you're number one so so excited exited for this yes I want to get to know you more we know each other a little bit but not as much as I'd like to so we can get to know you on this podcast and just kind of dive into everything and the listeners can also get to know you so tell me about your journey to missusa but not just like the pageant prep part I want to know your life like what kind of inspired you to get into pageants were there any big moments where you're like oh my gosh I need to compete like how did that happen how did you get missusa world so kind of in a in a very different way than most girls I know most girls grow up in a family or a mom that did pageants and they start when they're little I was a dancer dance was my life my everything I loved performing I loved being on stage and when I was 14 um my mom found I think literally through a Facebook ad that if you signed up for a pageant even if you didn't win you would get a $1,000 scholarship for college and she said you know this is something that you really need to start thinking about saving money for school you have a talent it was the America system so you had to perform a talent and she said you love to dance it's a good way to practice your solo just do it please just do it and she was like I will match the thousand and give you $2,000 I was like okay whatever I will do this for my mom but I don't care about this at all and I went and um the the local was just you had to write an essay you didn't even actually have to compete and I won this little essay contest I'm from a really small town though so there was probably three girls who wrote an essay and one and competed at Miss New York's outstanding teen my first ever pageant it was in New York City it was because I'm born and raised in in Upstate New York which I think a lot of people don't know because I was M I didn't know that yeah so I lived about two and a half hours north of the city so me and my mom went nobody else no family went just me and her drove up to the city for the weekend didn't know what I was doing at all never practiced anything wore clothes that I had in my closet and I was first runner up in Miss New York's outstanding teen my first ever pageant amazing it was crazy but I honestly didn't like I didn't fall in love with it like most people would think when I was younger just because I was so focused on dance and college and all of the exciting things coming how at this point 14 when I competed okay young even young yep so never competed again and teen never competed when I was still lived in New York I competed for seven years and then in covid when I had moved to North Carolina decided to have a goal compete in North Carolina USA um and then in 2022 I won Miss North Carolina USA which obviously then I got to compete at Miss USA yay oh my gosh I love that I actually love that you did America and USA in the system kind of back and forth at the same time do you have obviously you became a CSA but do you have a system that you enjoyed competing in more at like the local and state level I and I'm not just saying this because I was missusa I really really loved the USA system and I felt like that's where I should have been all along I just had friends in America and I like to hang out with my friends but I always felt like I fit not that there's a mold that you have to fit ever but I just felt that I fit and better in the USA system yeah women that are driven and are focused and love pageantry and so America or USA it's just there's so many good things about both and I love Miss America girls you know we we're all friends it's good we are we are so we learned how you became missusa all the way up until you know 2022 competing all the things tell me about your year and if we can be a little because your year was wild you were in a transition year you were crowned once arbany one Miss Universe like there's so many things we could dive into and maybe we'll have you back for another episode we can dive deeper into like all of it yeah let's start with at least after your crown Miss USA give me like something really fun and cool and exciting and something crazy like people don't know about and you can start with the crazy end with the fun or start with the fun end with the crazy whatever you want but I want to know give me some stories like tell me the behind the scenes like your year was so unique that I feel like I want to get people an insight into your year yeah and I'm excited because I think when you're the title holder you don't feel that you can speak freely on anything that's going on within the organization or how your year is going and you just kind of have to put on a brave face and be the face of the organization so this is my first interview being a former um so I'm really excited because now I think can actually share a lot of what happened during my year I did have a crazy year and I'll start with the scary and the crazy and end with all of the good but my year was really tough I think I'm possibly the only Miss USA who never had a director you have a travel manager like when you were on the road did you have someone like with you at all times like literally holding your purse if you needed it no no so that the whole why it was so crazy was when they asked me to be missusa because I was taking over Miss Universe asked me obviously because there was no one in charge of USA so I took that as oh Miss Universe is gonna help me Miss Universe is gonna make sure that you know someone is taking care of me and booking my appearances and not the case at all and it's not a dig at them because I just don't think they had the bandwidth for it they don't have the USA team anymore and they're busy so they asked me to be Miss USA I said yes I did everything on my own but my goal was that I just didn't want people throughout my year to know that I wanted people to be able to come to the Miss USA page and feel like things were semi-normal but behind the scenes nothing was normal I did pretty much I did all of my travel alone um I did get paid from Miss Universe I can say that but the amount of expenses that I incurred that I I paid for everything with my own money like thank goodness that I'm A working woman I'm an engineer I had savings but I mean a lot of events that would book me would say oh I'm gonna pay for your hotel and your flight because they want you to come to the event but you don't think about all of the other costs when you go travel somewhere besides just a hotel and a flight like I would have to check a bag that's $30 each way I have to get food I get to the airport I have nobody with me I have no driver I have nothing set up I have have to Uber to my hotel which sometimes was like $60 like I spent more money on being the CSA than anyone could ever imagine which I don't regret at all I would spend double the money because the experiences were so worth it it's just something that I think no one really kind of thought about um Miss Universe did reimburse me for expenses one time but I mean it was there was no system there was no point of contact I mean I would just people would reach out to me to book me or I would reach out to them um and it was very just I mean it was very hard because like you said there's no one to hold your purse and to help you and I know that sounds I mean to people who aren't in the pageant world it's like you need someone to hold your purse like who do you think you are but you're gonna go on stage and give a speech and like things are so kind of on the Fly sometimes Miss USA yes and if there's no one to like even just help guide you like okay we're going to do this first and this is your point of contact and yeah their name is so and so like whatever it is and okay we're going to sit here I'll put your things down here because they need you on stage in two seconds you gotta go like rightone to help you with that yeah and sometimes I felt like the hot mess Express Miss USA because I would like show up at a hotel and we'll say I'm going for Miss Florida and I have all of my bags I'm straight off the plane I'm trying to check into the hotel girls are in the pageant can see they know I'm Miss USA they're asking me for selfie like it was kind of a [Music] mess this show is sponsored by better help so I have been in therapy on and off for years and I love that therapy can help you with all types of relationships today to get 10% off your first month that's betterhelp hp.com slh hold my [Music] crown you know at the end of the day back on the good side and the fun part is I would do it all over again if I knew exactly how I was going to pan out and they asked me again today would you do you want to be Miss USA I would say yes because the opportunities the people that I met the experiences that I had the work that I got to do no one can ever take that away from me and I'm so grateful and so happy that I had all of those experiences that no amount of turmoil in the organization could ever make me you know not grateful for that yeah and you said something you said that like it was really a like a tough mental game for you and I can only imagine because I had a completely different experiences Miss USA and I still had hard times and it was a hard mental game for me so like what did you do I want these podcasts to be places where anybody pageant or not can get some takeaways like what do you feel like you did that helped you have that tough mental game that kept you positive because you seem like you still like look back on it like it was wild but I'm so grateful like so what did you have to do in those moments to stay positive to stay focused encouraged all of that like what did you do yeah um for me the the power of positive thinking is so real and what you think all day is kind of what becomes your reality so anytime I had negative thoughts just recognizing like okay your thoughts are valid but it's time to fill your mind with gratefulness and positive thoughts and remember your purpose and why you wanted this for so many years because I competed for seven years just for a chance to walk on the Miss USA stage never thought I'd win Miss USA so it's I was just like be so grateful that seven years ago you could not have imagine that this would be your life and just don't focus on all of the negatives and all of the craziness and another huge piece of why I was able to walk away so positive was me and Miss Teen USA fair and medy were close closer than anyone could ever imagine I mean talked every day all day and just to have someone who's going through the exact same thing as you because she had the exact same story that I had and to be able to just bond with her and just be like well we're going to lean on each other we're going to make it happen let's get events we want to be the best Miss USA and Miss Teen USA that we can be no matter what having that support just really helped me go on and not get seed down in the the negatives of it all I love that so much you spoke like your positive affirmations you had the power of positive thought you had gratitude and you had someone with you like there mentally even if she wasn't with you at every appearance you talked like you said every day I love that you had all those things I feel like those are such good takeaways like know who's in your corner who's got your back who's supporting you even if it's just like emotionally and mentally if they can't be there physically all of those things that you did and do are so important I love that um um craziness though we're gonna I was gonna say we'll talk more off the podcast but we can talk more on another podcast like just yeah so much to dive into let me just say from the outside point of view watching you on social media on your personal page in the missusa page you were killing it I was so impressed I knew that there wasn't a lot of support I didn't know that you were pretty much Miss USA by yourself I had I really didn't know that extent of it but watching it I was so impressed by how many events you were going to and appearances and the organizations that you were working with and how you were lending your voice to important causes with little to no support like it's so impressive all that you did in the time that you [Music] [Music] had next question okay um I feel like a lot of pageant girls out there are in relationships and nowadays you can be married you can have you can do all the things and be missusa or a state title holder so how do you manage a relationship being on the road traveling you were with Y Man for four years hold on his name is Daniel Daniel same as you Daniel Danel love so okay first of all congratul ation on your engagement thank you in a minute but tell me like how did you manage being in a relationship and being a title holder like let's kind of focus on that because whether someone is a local State national international title holder they may be in a relationship and it's a lot to juggle so how did you juggle it how you guys make it work stay together in a healthy enough way to get engaged like how did you make that yeah so it's it is really really tough because sometimes when you're a title holder even if you're a local tit title holder it occupies a huge amount of your time your mental and for me and Daniel the most important thing is just to remember that we were on the same team at the end of the day um and not to let our emotions kind of take over because at the end of the day we both wanted me to be successful and obviously even after post missusa life we want me to be successful and we also knew that if we have 70 years together hopefully God willing once we get married that this is going to be the one of the least busiest years of our life even though right now it feels like completely overwhelming one day there's going to be kids there's going to be you know you never know there's so many bumps in the road that you have in a relationship and just trying to remember this is just the first one and if we can't make it through this then why are we doing this and I think also just remembering to have communication because I am not the best Communicator I will just let things fester and fester and fester until I just freak out and it was just important for us to be like we have to actually vocalize our needs so if you feel like I'm not giving you attention on the first day I need you to say it to me instead of weeks going by and I'm traveling and I'm stressed out and then you're like we get in an argument and then it's like well for the past two weeks you haven't even talked to me it's like no I needed to know that two weeks ago so that I could have put in an effort and be conscious of the fact that you were feeling like that so we were just really open and honest and I also tried so hard when I was traveling obviously FaceTiming no matter how tired I was even if I just went all day and we're in a time difference and it's three o'clock in the morning there I would always Face Time him at least just to be like I'm here I'm safe I love you I'll call you tomorrow and I think that was really important and then obviously me having a hard year a weird year I guess we won't even say hard just a weird year I relied on him so much more than probably most title holders do just because I'd be like I need you to do this this and this for me so I think that strengthened our bond too and made him feel like he was a part of it a little bit so even if you're not having a weird year I think try to make your partner feel like they're involved in some way like try to make them feel like they are going to play a part even if you really don't need help just lie be like oh I need help with this please like I would love for you to be there um so just trying to really you know just remember the common goal which is that we love each other we want to be together yes you're on the same team it's so exactly always say like team bco like things are trying to get in between us but like we are on the same team at the end of the day so I love that for you guys um and I love the advice of bringing your person in to help even in a small way because it is an exciting time like you know you once Miss USA always Miss USA but you're never going to have that those months back you're never going to have that exact time back and he was able to be a part of it and you have those memories to last you for the rest of your life together because you mayie of advice is like bring people in especially those people that you love even if it's your family like having Grandma Grandpa mom dad like being little parts of your year is so special okay next question O Okay so speaking of Daniel you are engaged you got engaged Hawai the pictures look so beautiful you're just like so Flawless and so effortless I'm so happy for you congratulations thank you you know why I was effortless because I had no idea what was coming and I was too lazy to do my hair and makeup because I didn't know I was getting engag so Morgan tell me about like wedding plans I have two more questions for you before we start to wrap up so like wedding plans I want to know the details not all the details like people can find out where you get married but give me and then I also before we wrap up I just want to know about like future life plans but wedding plans first okay wedding plans oh my gosh I have no idea at all I've thought about nothing um but I I think I do know that I want to do something small I don't want a huge wedding because I just I feel like I've had so many days that are About Me Maybe you felt this when you got married I was like I already have had so many days that I got my hair and makeup done and people showed up for me and it's just like I just want this to actually be about the two of us and the love that we have in our families and like becoming one family more than like I have to entertain people and be like oh nice to meet you so I know that I want something smaller and more intimate but besides that no idea not in a rush at all I um I love your perspective and it shows like your sweetheart I definitely wanted it to be all about us but at the same time I was like this is the last time in my life that anything will be all about because when I have kids it's gonna be about the kids it's not gonna be about me anymore so I did still try to like soak in the whole it's it's about me yeah kind of leading up to the wedding like the hair the makeup the girls the Bridesmaids and then once we like were together then it was all about us so yes for sure I mean I can say that all day I bet when I get there I'm going to be like hello I'm the bride so I can't wait to see what your wedding plans end up being since you don't know now but it's also fun to enjoy the fiance stage because it's such a short period so really enjoy the fiance stage and have fun planning the wedding for Daniel and I our wedding planning engagement time was fun and beautiful but also some of the hardest time of our relationship uh we did a lot of premarital counseling have you guys done that yet not yet that that needs to happen on you get married it's so important even if you guys have a great relationship you're on the same page so important to go over all the little details so you step into your marriage on a really fresh page because you've got all the conversations the hard conversations out of the way that was what was hard for us it was like all those hard conversations that we had to push through but then we got to step into our first year of marriage in such like a light weight like there wasn't a weight on us because we already had all the heavy stuff besid so I'm excited yay okay moving on to like life aspirations what are you doing post missusa and I asked that question I also want to preface it by you don't have to be doing anything I feel like there's pressure to what's next what's next so if you're like I'm just planning a wedding and living my best life and I'm joyful and I'm happy that's fine but if there are things you want to share I want to create space for that yes well thank you so much and I appreciate the no pressure because when I was still miss us and everyone asked me I was like please stop asking me this but so right now I'm working part-time as an engineer still um so I work for a firm and then I also have an agent in LA and I've had a couple of auditions actually for some hosting broadcasting situations some shows so very very excited for that new chapter I kind of stumbled into the loving hosting from I did the commentary from Miss USA this year and I love D it so much so kind of starting a new a new chapter with that and then obviously yeah becoming a wife and just you know I feel like I'm busier than ever somehow oh i' love to hear that and I'm happy for you as long as busy is what you want I'm very much like a balanced person and whatever makes you happy I'm like I love that you're busy as long as you want to be busy yes well I'm busy now the month after Miss USA I did nothing nothing I you know how people say they rot when they just lay in bed that was me just watch TV and I needed it I left that month feeling so much better and just clearer head space and ready to tackle new things so I know for myself and my Miss Australia we talked a lot post pageant um we both experienced like fatigue and you said that you just like laid around and just like recovered for a month um I would say chronic fatigue was Her diagnosis myself diagnosed myself I'm like I got all the same symptoms but just complete exhaustion and it kind of comes from being in a state of like fight or flight all the time you have to be on all the time do you feel like you experienced that do you feel like that wasn't your experience like what do you I want to know if you kind of had anything that you experienced similarly yeah I definitely I thought it was burnout I kept just saying well I'm just burnout and I just need a time to rest but I agree during my year and just the stress and the travel the cortisol is through the roof for sure and I confirmed that with the doctor because after Miss USA I was like I really my main priority is for my health and I wanted to work with a functional medicine doctor and just kind of get back on track and she said you have very very high cortisol very high stress levels within the body um so she I mean I definitely felt that um I didn't have I didn't really have like I don't know I didn't have chronic fatigue to where I was like I can't do anything I'm just exhausted I more was just like I don't want to work I don't want to see people I don't want to put makeup on mine was like social battery was done just done yeah yeah H I totally get that and I'm so glad that you went to a functional medicine doctor to really see where everything was at that's so important and I wasn't even aware of any of that when I had in Miss USA so I had no idea that it was my cortisol cortisol levels that were through the roof and then I get tested a few years later and they were still through the roof because I never did like the recovery work so it took time for me to find out and I'm so glad that you figured that all out early on it's so important to be able to just heal yourself in a holistic way so you can just better overall um for sure last thing that I want to talk about because we dove into the craziness and we addressed that like you're so grateful for all all the things like what were some of your favorite moments during your time as Miss USA uh so many just the people that I got to meet and connect with and learn their stories was amazing it made me grow so much as a person just getting to hear all from people from all over the world and all their different cultures and I just feel like I grew up so much in a year and got my eyes open to so many things that I never would have if I was not Miss USA and then obviously my work with Smile Train and best buddies which I think that you those were your AAL platforms too and there are just such amazing amazing people I went to Guatemala with Smile Train which is a trip that I seriously think about daily it was just the most beautiful emotional trip and I I don't even know it changed me forever I love that so much I do feel like when in just in general especially as Miss USA But in general when we are able to put ourselves aside and give and help others it changes us on the inside out I love everything that you did as Miss USA you were an incredible USA I'm so glad you're part of our Sisterhood and um as we wrap up do you have any final thoughts if there's a pageant girl listening to this yeah tell her like an aspiring Miss USA she wants to be Miss don't give up because I know that is so cliche but I I mean we had talked about how it took me seven years and how I always was I mean first runner up second runner up top five and I remember the morning that I would wake up after I didn't win after I was first runner up or second runner up that feeling of just you're you're crushed like even if you're not a sore loser and you can be happy for the girl who won it's human nature to feel those feelings and feel those emotions and they're valid allow yourself to cry if that's what you need or just lay in bed for the whole day if that's what you need but don't ever say like I'm done with pageants I'm never doing this again like that is normal in the moment but don't give up if this is your dream and your heart is being called to it even if you never win you're being called to this for a reason so if you're still being called and you feel like it's still serving you don't give up go back and compete again even if you were first R up the year before and you're scared because you think you're going to go backwards because I've had that feeling a thousand times yeah um you know just just know that if your heart isn't it for the right reason then something is going to come from it that you could have never expected such good advice because I have been that girl too competing for years and years and years oh and we have a guest for the very end of the podcast we get to say hi to my little you know what Asher is about to be an every dang podcast a hi baby can you say hi to Morgan can you wait say hi hi hi Asher bye bye hey guys guys welcome back so I am on another day bringing Morgan back to answer your questions so I have some questions and hi Morgan welcome back even though for everybody else it seems like we haven't even taken a break but welcome back hello thank you for having me back yay okay so I have some questions and we're going to do just a few questions to get to know you even more things that we didn't talk about when just you and I were speaking so um this is an interesting question from the sparkling teacher will you be pursuing other pageant systems like International pageants like missor Miss International anything like that so I don't think so I think I feel really content and happy in my decision to retire from pageants allog together but I will say if I did compete the only system that I would consider is competing in Miss Universe just in a different country oo that would be so exting now there's no age limit so it could right you know there's no limit but I would definitely stay within the misers organization uh yeah absolutely I agree and I hear that um so we kind of talked about this a little bit but can you give a absolute favorite part of your year and hardest part of your year um a lot of people ask that question in different ways they wanted to know you're high and you're low your your most exciting moment and like the loneliest moment they wanted to know like the best and the hardest time so if you could give us two of those the best was definitely all of the amazing people that I got to meet from all across the world all across the country hearing so many people's story and just their different ways of life and just being able to look them in the eye and hear what they had to say it changed me forever and it was the most beautiful blessing and an opportunity that I never would have had if I was not wearing the USA stash because people don't just come up to you and tell you their story but something about having that Sash on you know makes them feel like they can connect with you and it was so beautiful and it was my favorite part of the year um I would say the hardest part of the year was just honestly the pressure and it wasn't even so much a pressure from the outside world it was just pressure that I put on myself to be the best that I could be and to you know have no regrets when the year came came to an end and sometimes it was very overwhelming especially just because it was such a weird and interesting year and I would really be like Oh I'm not a good Miss USA I'm a Miss USA that no one's going to remember I didn't do anything impactful and that is not true that's just lies that you know we feed ourselves um so that was probably the hardest part of my year but it it taught me a lot and I grew so much and you know it's a part of life and you just have to learn how to deal with it and learn how to turn your thinking around and we talked about that in our our previous conversation just the power of positive thinking and manifesting positive thoughts and what you think really does become your reality so just learning how to deal with that yeah I love that you acknowledge that you had those thoughts in those moments but you didn't let them take over and I feel like that's like the biggest thing and hopefully people really get that takeaway multiple times from you it's like sure we have hard times we have have things that can be discouraging but you are the example you stay positive you keep moving forward that you can still do incredible things and you have and your year was absolutely amazing and we were talking about this I wanted to just mention it that you had an incredibly hard year because you really didn't have any director over you and then also Arbon she didn't have any director over her so it's like you two were the I think maybe the only miss usas that truly didn't have like any long period of like guidance or leadership ship so you really had to do it on your own and I love that you just had the resilience for that um thank you random questions uhuh what a so about arvon was that she fully got ready and competed at Miss Universe on her own like what a SL yeah incredible it's like women are so powerful and sometimes you don't know how powerful as strong you are until you're put in those hard moments and you just have to show up you have no other option so you both have really done that it's so inspiring um are you moving to New York City is a question that one of our followers asked but I feel like you just did a photo shoot in Miami is that true yes so originally when my year ended I was like I'm gonna move to New York City in the new year I was all gungho but plans are just changing and I am just going with life right now I really don't know what I'm doing I just signed with the Lee Miami this week so now I'm going to be I'm spending more time in Florida so who knows you know we'll just the wind blows us I love it follow those opportunities it's so good um this is a silly question and I don't even know I mean this person has to follow pageants um because they commented this question but do you sew or crochet okay this is so ironic because I just texted in my friend group and I was like y'all I need a hobby so bad I just spent six hours talk in bed and my friend was like have you seen the wobbles kit or I don't even know if that's how you say they're little like crochet kits and you can make these cute little animals and I just ordered one so I'm going to learn how to crochet stop it okay perfect timing that's so good I have no idea but you about to yes but you really should like them I mean you have no free time to crochet or sew or even probably breathe or sleep but they're years yes then you can do it I'll see it I'll see it when you post it um let's end with this question because I really do want to know like the details of this answer what was your and this is from Abby what was your reaction when arbany won Miss Universe and then you knew like okay I'm going to be Miss USA where were you what did that moment look like how did you feel were you conflicted were you excited like tell me all about that moment yeah so I was in Upstate New York which is actually where I was born and raised um because I had an event there so me and my mom and my grandma were actually all together which was really special we were in a hotel um and we were watching it on the little iPad in the hotel room and when she won I mean I have a video of it but I reacted like I had just one Miss USA like I cried I we were screaming like we will never ever be allowed to stay at that hotel ever again we're probably blacklisted because we were screaming and at midnight and being in the halls and on the phone and I did not sleep at all that entire night um and then two days later I think I went to up into the city I went to New York City and I met with the Miss Universe team and uh it was such a such a dream come true and I'm just I'm thank you to Arbon because that was an beautiful and amazing and lifechanging moment oh my gosh it makes me emotional because no matter how you became Miss
