hi my name is felon entity and today I'm going to show you how to make one of these impossible space trading cards right here in blender all right we're in a new file let's set up our scene let's select the camera open our side panel right here set the X to zero and is there as well the X rotation to 90 and does that rotation to zero so we have a under camera like I come from here goes directly from the front it's like the cube delete it now we're gonna make the cart and in a plane go to edit mode rotated on the X by 90 and then scale it up on the Z so we get our card shape something like this let me go and I add a loop cut come on there we go right through the middle bring it down a little bit go to face select liked everything press I inset bring it in a little bit.i again we didn't again but this time we click on inside places down here and then on individual then we select these two loops and go over to the material tab at any material make it light blue or whatever you want really and add another one but this time it's a dark blue but my situate it and I click on assign that gets assigned two by two loops here and they're gonna go over to the monopod tab add a solidify modifier get a little bit thicker and set the material index to one as well for the rim now the backside is nice and blue and apply but it's our card is that a background playing for the cart that's important for later so mesh plane bring it back a little bit we rotated on the Expo 90 and then scale it up we go into shading select our background plane and give it a new background can remove this node and that's add-in in put a texture coordinate on the vector a mapping node connect these from generated to vector and under texture there should be a gradient texture there we go and these two together switch this to spherical and last but not least let's add under converter a color ramp like this click these two and the collegia to surface yeah something like this let's edit the location a little bit should be minus 0.5 as well as the Y should be minus 0.5 I can play with Suzette to make it stronger or weaker actually keep it at zero and like this and bring it in a bit I have something like that I should press zero you can see it from the front and that looks pretty good I like that and this can actually be but see what would look good it was like a like a pink tint that should be fine all right so the way we select we go back to the layout over here liked our card go back into edit mode like this front face this will be our mask crispy and click on selection go out of edit mode and select the front right so you just add here and then hold shift click on your card and press ctrl P like an object now our mask here is parented to the object that is targeted to the card so when you move the card mask moves with it alright so next we need something in the background well that we're gonna add a little model of mine you can use whatever you want I'm gonna add a little cake move it behind the card a little bit up do I want to actually see what's behind the card like your mask and press each to hide it and then select a card go into material select your second material scroll down a bit and under settings you can find back face culling just click that and you can see right through it all right looks like our cake the prong wait bring it up a bit [Music] all right that should be fine let's give the cake a background as well so we bring in a UV sphere we're tight the sphere on the X by 90 it's going to edit mode as well to wireframe and vertex selects look at it from the side pressing 3 on the numpad and select all the fun vertices will fuch select X little spur disease come on up edit mode back into DEP look show you out of edit mode before you can scale it up but actually scales around the origin something like this right-click our see your shaded smooth go back into the shading tab make sure yours feel selected create a new a new material delete the principled PDS app let's bring in another text recorded from the input tab as well as a burner texture connecter generated to the vector and then from the Congo to tap another color amp like the color to the factor of this and here from the color and the color to the surface of something like this which it over in the Verona texture node - from intensity to cells and then you can play a little bit with the color make this like ah maybe a little bit blue but much darker maybe I like desaturate it a bit I'm playing this yeah I think this should work can play with the scale if you don't like it I think something around this should be good that's nice all right so it's been going out why not live it up here select your cake and or whatever you have and your background and last but not least your cart always shift make sure your card is the last selected and then press ctrl P again object so now when we move our card everything moves with it very good all right it's only select all card and we're going to set up the collections press em we got new collection and call this card okay now your car plane is right here select your object and your background actually let's go back to the layout before we do this the object in your background press em again your collection echo mine cake you can call it whatever you would like we fix this real quick all right now this disappears when you deactivate the collection very good this called H spring bag all masks like the mask press em new collection call this mask okay all right let's make sure everything is fine there's our mask back on all right actually I need to move the background to the card as well that's important good now if we deactivate everything should have nothing but your lamp and the camera bring back the card and select the lamp they bring it a little bit closer to the card duplicated clothes as well now if we're going to render mode is actually let a little bit alright so next you should have something like this set up the render layers now deactivate all the collections except the collection where your camera and your lights are in as well as the car one so we deactivate cake layer and the mask layer so we only have this left we click up here on the view layer and call this card layer enter so this is our first view layer and click on the little icon next to it to create a new one that should bring back all your collections now with the activate the card collection and the masks we only have our cake and call this one the cake layer I think I call this the one Lord there we go enter a new layer and last one will be only the masks nothing else and this will be the mask layer very good now you can basically switch through your layers would have something like that now you go over here to offer stab I've seen tab go under film and click on transparent it's very important Louis this will not work and then we press after all to render this so this will render every single render layer you can click up here on the layer and then look at every single layer you have the camera is a little bit close so let's actually go and press 0 on the numpad go to our cut layer select our camera and bring it back a bit something like this now if we render it again but have something I think yeah now what do we do with this we actually go into the compositing tab click on use notes and that bring should bring you these two notes one is run your layers and one is composite bring this to the side a little bit press shift a go on an output and get our beer now we can just put in this image over here and then we have our card in the background I think if you press on the view you can bring zoom back a little bit it's a little bit too big for you fine all right cool so it started select your render layer and shifty it to duplicate it so you have three of those make sure every single one has a different layer so this has the current layer will have the cake layer and this will have the mask layer all right I'm used a little bit to the side all right so that I note under color you will find a mix node am I gonna mix the image of this car here and the image of this cake now if we just plug this into the vo node you get well you don't see much this defector actually controls what you see but we can also control it with our mast down here click the elf output and plug it right into the vector and you have something like this magic already working let's put this into the actual composite impressive cold and I can actually see it blender is not very cooperative and click on cuppa sit down you you actually get your layered output now if we take our card and road hit on the Z a little bit just a little bit awesome like this i press effed up again you see it a little bit from the side no we have to do is animate it let's bring this back click on your card little bit zero into the animation window I like to work and death look here over little bit actually see what we're doing like the 0 frame ordinate and go over here with your card selected and go on the rotation and click on the Z rotation right click and insert single keyframe and I'd set this down here on the end to 180 good looking over all the way here to the 180 and then click on the Zed put in 360 right click again insert single keyframe now we have a bit of an animation going on you just want a constant rotation which I usually prefer make sure all your keys are selected click on key interpolation mode and then linear now if you play this it just rotates all the time okay and now let's render it before we actually render it I forgot something very important let's go to the math player select your mask over here go over to your material and it's like the first material and just set it to beg face culling otherwise the back side will also mask it and we don't want that all right let's runner and there you have it a nice impossible space trading card I've enjoyed this tutorial I would love to see your own trading cards so make sure to add me on feel an entity on Twitter it obviously can do a lot with these cards with whatever you put in the background so I look forward to what you make
