hello today I want to show you how to install the D to Unreal Bridge from David's GitHub repository and I also go into a little bit of detail why you might want to do that and what other options you have that's chapter points in the description of this video have a look at that if you want to skip ahead to something that you want to skip over so this is a video for Terry by the way one of my supporters hello Terry I hope this is helpful the reason why I making that is because it's terribly difficult to get going with installing this thing from guub because you essentially have four versions or four ways of installing the D to Unreal Bridge number one is David's GitHub repository link is in the description for that this is the one that David develops by himself and DZ then go and take this code and merge it into their own code and then eventually release what he's doing with their changes on the dash store for free so this is basically the the most upto-date thing but it's raw code so the overhead is that you have might have a little bit of a hard time to get that working the second way of getting this particular code into both D Studio as well as on real engine is David's online installer also Link in the description that is a very small repository here that's zero description of how to actually use it but if you go here over to releases you'll see that the latest release has aexe file for Windows if you double click that it sort of runs a script that will put the relevant files into the right places so this is supposed to make it a little bit easier I have never tried this and I've only just recently found out about this so this is a way that might make this manual approach I'm going to talk about in a moment a little bit easier then of course the third way of getting this going is to buy this from the Unreal Engine marketplace where David sells this and this is essentially the release version of what he's building on his GitHub and that gets updated whenever a new version of unre engine comes out but it might not have the latest changes that he's putting into his GitHub as he is developing the plug-in so this is designed to work in Unreal Engine first and then you grab the little file in there put that into Das studio so that the D Studio side of things work but what I would recommend as somebody who wants to get this going as easy as possible is actually go to the dash store and get it from here so it's free it's a free plugin and it then shows up in instore manager and it will essentially be this code with the changes that D have made and applied so that it's a little bit easier to get going especially from D Studio and from install manager so if you're one of those people who wants to wants the easiest possible life I would strongly recommend you stick with this version because it's the version that is stable it might not support the latest versions of a real engine but it's the one that gets you going really really easy but having said all that we're going to focus on how to get the latest and greatest changes that David has made on his GitHub up and running in your own installation so first off let's go and download this thing that happens over here under releases 82 of them so this is the link that you're going to click github.com David vodan vonal I don't know/ test to Unreal and then you head over here to release this and then here the latest one is usually the one that you want you get this ZIP file here I've already got it downloaded so I'm going to not do that again but you download that you unzip it and then you see something like that so I've got it here Dash to Unreal I've got I've had several versions of that you go and right click on this and then you say extract all and then you're going to end up with a directory such as this and if you open that you see several versions of Unreal Engine plugins popping up here we're probably interested in the latest one 15.4 and I'm just going to go leave this open and show you where these things need to go so in here you'll find DH to Unreal folder and this is the whole folder that you need to copy into either the engine or your project I'll talk more about this later in here also you're going to go and find something in the resources section that is the DZ unreal bridge. dll and that thing you need to copy out and put that into special location into your Das Studio installation so that Das Studio sees this as a plug-in it can launch so let's go through this all step by step I'm going to go back to the very top here where it has all these versions I'm going to go and start by making myself a brand new project and brand new Unreal Engine project that we can test this out on so I'm going to go and launch 5.4.1 that's the latest release at the time I'm recording this video and it's important that you have an empty project that you begin with so while this is doing its thing I'm going to quickly talk about the differences between installing this plugin to the engine versus installing it into every project you need it in so engine is great if you make a lot of projects with that to Unreal Engine but the trouble with these things is if the plugin receives an update and you update the version that's inside the engine then all your project files get updated automatically as well and that might not necessarily be what you want if something has worked in a previous version new version comes out that might potentially Break Stuff then your projects are screwed and you're going to have a really difficult time to get those back up and running and working so I strongly recommend you install this plugin into every single project you're working on and if a new version comes out you install that into a new project or make a copy of a project and then try to update that just so that you know you've got something that's working I'm going to head over to games and I'm going to create blank project for now and I'll go here to my super special location I've made for this UE recordings I'll go and select that and call that D Bridge demo how about that uh preset I might just go use scalable hit create and that's going to create my empty project that is all I need and you'll be surprised to hear that I'm going to go and close this down in a minute as well because I want to go and copy these files and once I've done that the plugin will already be enabled on this so I'm going to really not do anything with this and just close this down just so that Unreal Engine has made those files here I'm going to go and open a new file explorer and put that next to it so that we can go and do a bit of drag and drop action let me go and find my unreal project so UE recordings here it is Das Bridge demo that's the one I've just made double click into that and you'll find all your project files here in there in here this is where you need to copy the contents of whatever version you're using from the dash to Unreal so my case 5.4 and I'm going to have to copy this whole folder into this project but not just into the top thing I'm going to have to go and make myself a new folder and call that plugins and inside of plugins I'm going to go and drag and drop this in I'm just not going to go drag it over though because that would potentially move it I want to have this available so that I can copy it into other projects so I'm going to hold down control and left click and drag this left click and drag this over and drop it into here and that makes a copy of that um if you move it and your Unreal Engine project is on the same drive then it's just going to go and move that and I don't want to do that so that is all I needed to do on the Unreal Engine front so if I go and open my project up again I think I'll call that Daz Bridge demo there we go if I go and just open that up again then the plugin is going to be active inside of Unreal Engine and the project needs to be closed for that to work oh yeah quick note if you get to the 75% mark and it just seems to hang there let it do its thing it might take 5 or 10 minutes the first time it runs because it goes and does some I stuff under the hood and whatnot so just let it run this is going to the first time you run this it's going to take a while but subsequent launches of this project are going to be much faster just thought I'd let you know that while Unreal Engine does its thing in the background let's have a look at the D Studio portion of this so because this is a GitHub repo there's no way to install the Unreal Engine files from the convenient installer like we have it with the Das version so you have to do this manually so um back here in my Dash to Unreal folder in the project version that you've downloaded under dash to Unreal under resources find the DZ unreal. dll file I'm just going to go leave that here oh uh note to Mac users the oh there we go that's now done its thing in the background that's groovy let's just see if it's in fact enabled under edit plugins sorry that's project settings not what I meant in edit plugins under D to and real we I see this is installed and it's also enabled so that's perfect I can just go and hit command R and just minimize this so we can go back to this one here so note to Mac users David only supports the windows version of the Das install he does not support Mac OS because that's is too much work the D guys however do that so if you install this from the the install manager through Das then you have the option to make this work on Mac OS as well so you don't have a dynamic Library file in here if you're looking for that it's not here so just a word of warning there so um with this in mind with the dll file just you know um copied here go over to where Das studio is installed on your system so on mine it's in the C drive under program files in a folder called Das 3D and I'm one of those weird people who has multiple versions of death Studio installed so I'm going to use the publishing build as a demo for this if I double click into this or in your case it might be the release version you'd be clicking into this then in here you'll find a folder called plugins and you have a lot of these some some folders here and you have a lot of these dll file that usually start with DZ and that is where you need to copy your DZ unreal bridge. dll file into here so if I look closely I'm already I've already got it but if you don't then you can just go and um once again control left click and drag that over and put it into here I might just go and do that and replace the one that's already there do this with d Studio closed number one number two you may have to provide these administrative permissions for that to work so program files is a bit of a crazy folder in Windows where you have to provide extra permissions and this why blender often doesn't work if it's installed in program files one of those things let me go and open the the Das version that I've just installed that into now and then I'll be able to demonstrate that that you can now send things from D Studio into Unreal Engine so then with d Studio loaded and the figure in the viewport and also Unreal Engine open perhaps we're going to go and make a new level that's just you know a bit more basic than this I'll do this direction light I'm going to go and turn that down so that my my eyes don't sort of you know burn there we go that looks that looks a little bit more handsome here don't really need the player start here either and let's go and send the figure over to Unreal Engine now so they both need to be open and then you head over with the figure selected here you head over to file sent to dhone real and then we use a skeletal mesh Victoria 9 is good for that if you use a Genesis 8 character it's usually common to use the fixed twist bones option here and uh we don't need any Ms for this demo hit accept and then you know program is going to do its thing and character is going to arrive in Unreal Engine there we go it's done that now minimize that studio and then it goes and copies all these bits and pieces in here there's quite a little Min series that I've made about how to use the other aspects of the bridge so you'll be able to follow along the link of that is in the description as well that is all I have for today this is working I've done this multiple times with the latest version and I've had good success with that if you want to join David's Discord I'll also provide a link to the description in that if you have any questions about the bridge then you know come and join us there talk shop and see what you've made with the bridge it's a really really funky tool I really love this pipeline there's a ton of things that you can do with it to make use of your Das content in Unreal Engine if you have any questions do let me know and I hope I'll see you next time take care bye-bye
