look at this look at that water it's like a it's like a Whirlpool it's boiling [Music] [Music] wow [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] n [Music] this is sea with Gate City I'm on a job today way down in Trinity and we are replacing this concrete culvert pipe so I've got four 8T sticks in here and that's what the pipe looks like there's an old one sitting right there but let me show you what's going on here and well obviously you can see in here it's washing out because the pipe has come apart and we got a water line right there so we're going to try to work around that but let's see if I can get down there and show you inside the pipe maybe should have gone down the other side all right so you can see that there's not even any water coming out of here anymore so these old pipes have come apart on us and that's what we're doing replacing these so look at this looks like they tried to patch it at one point look at the size of that guy woo that's one of those fishing spiders but anyway you can you can see that this thing has come apart over the years and it's now just just washing out underneath it and so it's I've got my new excavator here and we're going to see if it'll lift these things so this is going to be an interesting job for sure I got Carson with me [Music] [Applause] today oh yeah I definitely should have come down on this side so there we are so let me go up there and help Carson unload that excavator we're going to put in some rip wrap as well so I've got some that's some I had at my house it's kind of contaminated with leaves but he's not too worried about that and Carson's over here with this excavator this is my new kx11 I just bought it a few weeks ago and this F550 with this 18 or 16t bed works really well for carrying cover pipes these are 36 in okay so the first thing I want to do here is get these old pipes out of here and I need to figure out where I'm going to put the dirt so I think I think I want to work from that side which would also close me in if I but I want to put the pipes on that side too so he just wants to throw them on the bank right there so this will be interesting to say the least that's some big pipe and they're pretty deep in there so we'll see how we [Music] do [Music] I'm thinking you probably all do most of your work from that side that way if we have to get something else yep we can come to this side I just told the camera I think I want to work on this side yeah same thing I was thinking [Music] yeah yeah [Music] yeah no they're hooked on the uh tailgate they're hooked on the [Music] tailgate okay now [Applause] try there you go can you fling it what do you want me to do just help me go that's okay let the tailgate go I think you got that on video you think Ocean's going to be okay with that that was too easy [Music] [Music] what what's that pipe for if it's water [Music] [Music] [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] Carson just bought himself an excavator and he I told him to learn pattern a but he's learned pattern B so we just switched it so now he's going to get a little bit of practice digging and that's all it takes with these things is just just a repetitive motion like this so he's going to get some excavator time going here [Music] all right Carson's been working away on the 121 and I just went and got the other excavator so what' you find out here well it looked like they either added on or pieced it together at one point you got two small sections oh wow and then they had thin pieces of metal kind of keeping the dirt out and probably that created like a a water to go under this other pipe which in turn washed out the further pipe anyway they didn't do it so these are these are two two separate pieces here yeah yeah it's almost like they tried to add on to it down the road or something yeah well we got some big long pieces in in here so we'll have this in good shape all right are we going to pull these out of here in in multiple pieces all [Music] right okay we're going to see if we can start peeling these pieces out of here so let's see how the new excavator does [Music] [Music] break it to they'll be loose before we're done huh they'll be loose before we're done brought my 12 in bucket hey hey Sean maybe you could put the bucket like push it out of [Music] them [Music] [Applause] [Applause] yes what the hell am I going to do with that pull it over there the camera on the camer no oh yeah it is hit that one if you would I think it's on too I off it's got a red light that's brought a ladder yeah [Music] [Music] all right we're working on this thing and I just saw this is called the ey elator this is a giant click Beetle that occurs here in North Carolina so that's our big click Beetle see that oh that's the eyed click Beetle oh that's cool I never seen one of him ever yeah so he's he's in defense right now has some good camo concrete camo 422 look at that terrible picture so the idolator is also here this is a little bit better picture there and this book a latra click beetles 307 there he is right there six that's a lanus oculatus lenus oculatus from ocula Oculus ey so those none of those books have any really good picture and look what I found this might be my oldest book that I own that I remember as a kid and look at that he's right there so that's him that's the eyed elater he's called eyed click beater Beetle anyway you think our Chain's loose yeah we're just going to let this thing Let It RI golly [Applause] always one trying to stay behind Okay let me show you what's going on some of you might have already guessed so when I first talked to this homeowner or property owner he measured this piece right here and he told me that he had four sticks of 3T pipe so that right there is a 3ft pipe and it's 8 ft long and so I came out here looked at it didn't really crawl down there didn't bring my tape measure these are 12T for 48 in 4T diameter so he had talked about upgrading to a 48 because he said that this overflowed like a couple times in the last 40 years and eventually said no keep it at 36 put back what's there and so Carson and I talked about trying to cut these things and just all kinds of stuff and and you can you can you can try and cut and everything and then you get to the and you get that one out it takes all day and then you get to this one so what I'm going to do I talked to the homeowner we're going to put I'm going to take those 36s back we're going to get some 48s and I'm going to rent a bigger machine and get in here and pull these out of here and put some 48s in it's going to be almost double the price but the property owner luckily was super cool about it and it's like whose fault is it I I came out looked at the job I should have brought my tape measure I should have known better so we're we're going to share in the cost of it a little bit but it's going to be 48 in it's going to be right so yeah so put down in the comments if you already knew this was a 48 in and you were just watching us struggle over here all right [Applause] [Music] stand clear stand out of the way [Music] [Music] I'm back out here today and I've got my hauler friend he's bringing his 160 Excavator so I tried to get this these guys dug out a little bit more and you can really see just how much that thing shifted and how that joint came apart and that's the whole reason that sinkhole formed and everything and so Matt's on his way hopefully hopefully hopefully his 160 will be able to pull these out of here and the homeowner property owner just wants them shoved down in here just drop them down in here so we're going to see how this works the plan when Matt gets here is to unload his machine probably in the road and then take it down the road and park it or his truck and I'll take this truck and pick him back up and then just walk the machine the X down to the job site so Matt's on the way I'm just going to hang around out here wait for [Applause] him [Music] Matt just arrived and we're getting this guy unloaded so this is a lowboy trailer he said boom pretty cool and then he's going to walk the excavator off of there and then load back up and move down the road anytime you're spotting somebody with equipment make sure you look up he's got some wires up there that is a big one that's for sure what's that behind one right there all right [Music] oh [Music] yeah you're [Applause] good do [Music] all right we're going to see what she'll do Moment of Truth people oh man [Music] [Music] woo [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I want to over the camera can you [Music] [Music] just I kind of hate to junk it in the woods but that's what he wants to do with [Music] it go let it go [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] woo you's got it [Music] now [Music] right FR it [Music] [Applause] yeah [Music] [Music] I meant to bring a ladder [Music] you want me to get in there it's proba pretty [Music] good that's probably pretty good okay I just cut off 14 ft I think and Matt's loading up the rest of it in the back of the dump truck [Music] [Music] you water man I just take all [Music] right can you come in closer a little bit Pull It in a little bit and pull too [Applause] much you go up with it is it I think we've got her about set together here he's going to tap on it just a little bit and see if anything happens and I'm holding it over here with the kaboto [Music] I think that's it yeah it says home written right there so you know you're good when it's slid home all right can we get a few buckets on it yeah I mean okay we got the new Culver we got a couple loads of dirt on top of it or little bit of dirt got it stabilized Matt is walking his excavator back up here and I'm sitting here at the road going to give him a ride over to his truck which is parked right over there so I guess when you have a big truck like that you have to be strategic in where you put it and then I also got this last piece strapped down it's about 6t or so so that'll go back to my place and get thrown in the yard somewhere man that excavator was awesome what' you all [Music] think [Applause] that's pretty cool [Applause] man pretty cool all right that really bailed me out with this one okay I've been messing with this pipe for about an hour and I finally got it where I want it so I guess I'm ready to start back filing it so it's looking pretty good time to get this mountain of dirt on top of here so here we go [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] a [Music] okay I pretty much used up the dirt that I dug out and so I've got this big Mound right here which was presumably from the driveway and so the homeowner said use this dirt to fill in what had washed away so I've got the skid deer here so I'm going to start digging away and filling in what I can then I've got some rip wrap for the inlet side but let's take a look look everything is going pretty good just kind of slow going digging with or filling in with that excavator and that pipe should have water going through it for the next 40 years at least so there it is so you can see we've got quite a bit yet to fill in and I'd kind of like to lose that giant chunk of concrete over here on the side here where it's not going to hurt the pipe so actually I might do that with the see if I can do that with the skid steer but anyway yeah let me get to work [Music] here [Music] he [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] w [Music] got [Music] well I've been digging up there on the driveway for quite a while I pretty much created a drainage sale on both sides there was a ton of dirt up there and so this is looking pretty good as far as being filled in so let me see if I can get in here and clean this all up and flatten it out a little bit all right let's see how we [Music] do [Music] [Music] yeah okay this has been one heck of a job but I think we are pretty much there so he wants me to bring in about a few tons of gravel and kind of feather this out a little bit I built it up a little bit High because it will settle and so the other thing is I gave him a little bit more pipe than what he had and built this out quite a bit on either side so he said that they used to be able to get two cars passed by each other here but that had it had washed away and everything so it's pretty wide now and so let's take a quick look inside and I added a bunch of rip Rock rip wrap in here cuzz he said this is the side that was kind of washing away so we have kind of a plunge pool here look at that that is awesome that's a big pipe I still can't believe I didn't realize this was a 48 when he said it was a 36 so he was really really really cool about getting the right pipe in here so even though it cost quite a bit more he was fine with that really great land owner here property owner to work with and of course what I did up here on the driveway harvesting some dirt he definitely recognized that he's going to have a lot better drainage now he was really excited about this I was going to dress it up a little bit more he said not to worry about it so yeah that we pulled a lot of dirt out of here and added it down here so I'm going to get the excavator out of here today get my tooth my 12inch bucket which is laying over there and I'll leave the skid stew here to spread around the gravel and the two pipes are there he's good with those so yeah we're in pretty good shape I built this up really well out here I guess let's take a look at it down there so that looks pretty good that'll all fill in with sediment and whatnot and it'll be in really good shape so yeah that's a big CT pipe that's for sure I just got the excavator hooked up on the trailer and I'm just walking down here so I thought you guys would like to take a look looks pretty good and so if you're doing a job like this the homeowner wanted to save a little bit of money by not trucking in extra dirt even though a bunch of the dirt had washed away and we were going to add some rip wrap in here and everything and so so when you're doing a job like this this should be a 40-year job so get it right that CT was installed before I was born in 1981 so it did pretty well but it shifted and so hopefully these pipes will stay together for the next 40 years and I'll be back out here probably in a couple days with a little bit of gravel now this gravel is not going to quite go as far as all the extra dirt I did so we'll have to see how that goes but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and the homeowner the property owner he was just jumping up and down he was really thrilled with it so he said I'm a good contractor so what do yall think [Music] [Music] I'm back out here today got a load of gravel and so I'm going to get this spread out really quickly and I left the skids deer here so after that I'll be getting cleaned up and we'll be finished up with this job so let me see if I can get this crushing run spread [Music] out [Music] okay that was 5 tons of crush and run or ABC as they call it around here so I got that all spread out I tried to to pack this in a little bit deeper because if this thing does settle he'll be able to come back with his tractor and just re rework it he won't have to add any more material in here so that's looking pretty good I'm pretty happy with that and let me see if I can do anything with this he's not too worried about it but I think I can just kind of hit it with the bucket and smooth it out a little bit so let's see how we [Music] do [Music] what the property owner just turned around over here and so what ended up happening up here was I harvested a bunch of dirt from the sides here where there was like a BM and then he I was kind of a victim of my own success over here because he liked it so much that he then asked me if I would redo this and push it out a little bit and try to get it sloping a little bit so the water would run that way so I'm not a master Road Builder but he didn't really pay anything for this extra work and so I cut this little Channel through here and so hopefully the water will shoot will stay on this side first of all and then go over the other thing he had going on was his water line came down like right through here somewhere and he said when the water would would wash away the pipe would get exposed and so I built this up a little bit and tried to take that side down a little bit to try to keep the water off of there so he's like thrilled with this part but the Culver he's even more thrilled with and so I just dropped about 5 ton of Crusher run got that spread around and packed in and brought this up a little bit because if you can believe it he says that every every 5 to 10 years this thing will flood like this thing will just be buried in water and the water will actually wash over top of the driveway here and so I built this this up so if we get a little bit higher here there's a lot more buffering capacity out there and hopefully the pipe will be will be a lot better flow and won't get anything hung up that when was starting to get some stuff little Tangles and everything and if any branches or anything got in there it would clog up pretty quickly so hopefully this will be good for another 40 years and I got a bunch of rip rip wrap in here and there's a bunch of dirt in here too but there's also a bunch of rip wrap to stabilize it so once this all settles down pretty good it should be pretty strong so that's about 30 I think it's 34 or 36 ft that we put in I think it's 34 so we had 32 before and then I built the bank out a little bit too on either side so they're pretty happy with it so what do y all think I'm back out here it's been about seven or so months and I wanted to check on this Culvert that we installed so let's go check it out looks like it's holding up pretty well whoops yeah it looks like it's holding up really well I was hoping there'd be more water flowing through it but it's not raining that terribly much so there it is so all the bank is is staying stable and everything that's really really good news because of all that dirt I brought in from from up there so yeah this thing looks looks like it's doing pretty well I've talked to the homeowner a couple times and everything seems to be good so finally got some rain footage for this project it's been about seven and some odd months since we were out here doing this work so yeah that's awesome I guess those are still there but anyway well I'll get to making this video now for you [Music] all look at this we've got another one the street is totally flooded all right I'm back out here look at this look at that that that pipe is clogged up or something look at this oh my God lookit my phone that's like that's like 10 ft deep right there that Calbert pipe must be clogged up man that's scary look at this I'm going to try to get down there I think I'm going to get muddy or flip and here we go man if that thing wasn't clogged up look at this look at that water it's like a it's like a whirlpool it's boiling [Music] wow I did want to mention that look at all the water that this driveway is holding back and that pipe has got to be clogged or something what do you all think you think Post 10 could get get that unclogged with his rake I don't know the other thing about that is if you did get in that water anywhere close to that pipe and that thing let go that Delta pressure would just suck you right through there woo man that's a lot of water this was a very interesting job in many ways and the first thing I want to talk about here is I want to talk about the idea of verifying what the customer tells you and so the customer had told me hey there's a 36in pipe in the woods that's the same one that's that's underground 36 in by 8T my machine would handle that pipe and so I went out there and I looked at the job and I crawled in that in that Culver and everything and it just didn't even dawn on me to make sure it was a 36 in and so as you all saw in the video it turned out to be a 48 in X 12T and so when I was first talking to the homeowner about the price they were like you know this thing it kind of fills up to Max Capacity once every 10 years or so what if we go from 36 to 48 and I priced it at that and it was way way more expensive they were like no let's just do 36 and so then it turns out it was a 48 in there anyway and so that was definitely a a stressful situation for me at once I realized what was going on and I knew I couldn't move those pipes with my machine I I really didn't know what I was going to do and I really have to hand it to my friend Carson who was out there with me on that first day he pretty much said you know just get the homeowner back out here explain the situation to him and and decide on how you're going to proceed and so luckily for me that was the the ticket the homeowner was completely fine completely understanding you know it was going to cost quite a bit more but I and then of course I was going to need to get my my other friend Matt in there to with his big machine to get that pipe out and so I paid for that portion of it and it just it really worked out well and so definitely have to give my friend Carson credit he's a mechanic and so this kind of thing happens to him all the time where you get into a job and it turns into you you see more broken parts or whatever and you have to call the homeowner or the the whatever owner car owner back out and say look this is what I've discovered and this is where what it'll take to keep going and so he's used to doing that I'm not so much so what do you all think about verifying what the homeowner tells you or the customer tells you the next thing I wanted to talk about was uh my other friend Matt so we we pretty much we we were looking at those pipes concrete pipes we were like well maybe we can saw them in half and maybe we maybe I can pay a day laborer to come out here and saw these things in half and I won't have to worry about them and so that was another Pro that was just another issue like okay do do I pay Matt to come out there with his big machine and pop those pipes out of there do I pay some day labor do I sit there and pound on them with a sledgehammer and so my particular personality is I'm usually the one to call for help sooner than later and so I could see myself out there sawing away at those things and and wasting a bunch of time and not accomplishing anything and so I'm quick to ask for help so I called Matt up I was like hey I need at least a 160 to get out here and get these pipes out send him some pictures he's like I'll be right there and so I think that's worth noting too that that sometimes when when things are going wrong you can't necessarily just keep going in a Direction that's not the right direction I I could have sought on those things for a week and probably pulled them out with my machine cut them into small enough chunks but I would have wasted a ton of time and so I'm quick to ask for help but I'm also quick to offer help and so I have a really really good support team around me and you know just hey I need some help with this he came right out there we popped those pipes out that was actually pretty fun to see that big excavator and so that worked out pretty well and you saw you all saw how that went and then um the other thing is I took quite a while to make this video and it turned out that that worked out pretty well because we had that huge R rain event in early January and I was able to get out there and take a look at that pipe and I made a short out of that where I said I thought it was clogged because I thought there'd be more flow coming through it and a bunch of people were like no it's not clogged it's just flowing at full boore and so I think it was just flowing at full bore and that thing apparently that was like a rain event that the homeowner said we we get those like once every 10 years or so and so they were really thrilled that everything was working so well the driveway that we put back all that extra dirt we put back was holding back all that water which was really good the other thing oh okay so so the the price went up quite a bit on this job unexpectedly but I was able to widen that driveway and and reform those drainage ditches on each side cuz I needed a bunch of dirt and so that kind of went into the whole product that the homeowner got as well it was a little bit more work for me getting that doing that grading and stuff but it was a better value for the homeowner so the price went up but I did some extra work and so it just really really worked out well and I um I hope you all have enjoyed seeing this this thing in action I really enjoyed it as you could see from my rain footage the second rain footage so this was a pretty cool 48 in Project that we did and let me know what you all think about this one this was a real fun one and sorry it took me so long to get this video out it was there was a ton of video clips in this one and I it was kind of daunting to make this long video but I'm glad I finally have it out there and so let me know what you all think about this video and I will see you on the next one thanks if you actually made it to the end of this video I'd like to thank you for watching this might be one of my longest videos ever which is also why was so daunting to get started on it but I think it turned out pretty well and if you if you think so too you can support the channel and the links are
