I've stayed in quite a few luxurious hotels in my day in fact it's one of the things I love most about my career jetting off to foreign cities and arriving in a hotel lined with gold Butler's and opulent pools it's the feeling of grandeur when you walk into the hotel that impacts you the most the smallest details are given attention every metre desire you have is taken care of I thought I had experienced the best of the best for quite some time now I had relaxed in a spa hotel in Switzerland and France I had looked out over Central Park with a cocktail in my hand I mean I thought I had checked off every box and then I visited the Burj Al Arab and Dubai which is known as the best hotel in the world and has long been considered the world's only seven star hotel my mind was blown what I thought of as luxury before was challenged and with a name like mr. luxury well there was a life-changing experience today I'm going to walk you through the world's only seven star hotel we're going to talk about the gold the glitter the sparse the caviar and everything in between now the Burj Al Arab has been around since 1999 so it's quite a surprise that I didn't make my way over there sooner the hotel itself was commissioned by the Sheikh of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is estimated to have cost 1 billion dollars to build so why would a Sheikh spend 1 billion dollars to build a fancy hotel mainly because he knew he had to put to buy on the map for something other than oil much of Al Maktoum's rule has been focused on diversifying the economy and making it a luxury destination for millionaires around the world and judging by the amount of times I've visited the city with friends I have to say it's working construction began on the monster of a building in 1994 the name translates directly to the Arabian Tower and that's quite a literal name the hotel towers 920 feet above the city an artificial island was specifically for the hotel to give it the appearance of a ship sail rising from the water to keep this complicated piece of architecture in place there are 250 concrete columns underneath the building and the island which go 148 feet under the sea in other words you've got nothing to worry about staying there there are two ways to access the island and arrive for your luxurious vacation you can either take the complimentary Rolls Royce from the airport which is what I opted for or you can take your private helicopter to the helipad that is on the top floor of the hotel for a more ostentatious and exclusive entrance either way you'll be arriving in paradise the lobby of the hotel is quite a sight upon your entrance the lobbies alive with warm colors patterns and textures a massive stone cascade fountain behind the reception desk utilizes water mist and fiber-optic lungs to create a choreographed show where the water leaps down and across the steps there are gold columns gold features and gold furniture and something you'll have to get used to the hotel uses 20,000 square feet of gold leaf for decoration that's nearly half an acre the floors throughout the lobby and the hotel are made of stat worio marble which is the most expensive marble on earth and is the same kind used by Michelangelo as if the lobby wasn't fancy enough that's not even where the real action takes place when you check in you'll be whisked away to another beautiful side room where an attendant welcomes you with cold towels rosewater coffee and snacks which you can munch on while they check you in you'll then follow them up the escalator which lazily Rises beside a massive aquarium one of the three in the hotel then you'll into the atrium which is the largest atrium in the world standing at a startling 590 feet tall there's a fountain in the middle that shoots water 130 feet in the air the same height as the Bellagio fountain you continue on through the gold elevator doors and ascend up to your room there are 202 rooms in the hotel including a you extravagant sweets but we'll get to those later the most basic room is $2,700 per night and I have to say I think it might be worth it upon entering the floors Butler will help you settle in that's right each of the floors have their own Butler reportedly there is a six to one employee to guest ratio at the hotel and I believe it the Butler's are known to be able to help you with absolutely anything you need and that begins the moment you step in the room the butler brings you fresh fruit unpacks and hangs your clothes and gives you a full tour of this suite and that too well that tour takes quite a long time even the least expensive room at this hotel is a two-story suite the first floor includes the dining area living room and an extensive minibar stocked with all the drinks your heart desires the dining room table has a display of fine chocolates including some fresh-made macaroons everything in the suite is remote control from the blinds to the television compartment to the lights to the temperature control system to get up to the bedroom and bathroom that you'll take a marble staircase lined with fresh rose petals and my the bedroom is massive the mattress costs fifteen thousand dollars and it certainly feels like it does I haven't slept the same since my visit and every bed just pales in comparison the pillows and blankets are crafted from eiderdown feathers the feathers are hand harvested from the nests of female itis they're extremely hard to come by so hard in fact that more Lamborghinis are made per year than duvets made with eiderdown feathers they're birds that are native to the sub Arctic so you know your blankets are going to keep you warm all night long in addition there's a pillow menu of over 17 pillows so you can choose just the right size shape and thickness of course there are other things you could do in the bedroom there is a sitting room attached to the bedroom with lavish counties and there's a mirror directly above the bed for Earth well no reason in particular the bathroom has a rain shower with four different showerheads a jacuzzi bathtub and gold call of we all love hotels shampoos and soaps but burj al arab takes that to the next level each room comes with a Hermes toiletry bag which includes his and her perfumes and that my friends is just the most basic room the most extravagant room will cost you a bit more nineteen thousand dollars per night to be exact the suite is two bedrooms and dripping in gold marble and color a leopard print staircase sits in the opulent entryway leaving you up to the marvelous room there's a private dining room with enough seating for 12 friends I'm a Healy's style living room for drinking tea late into the night a full movie room and expansive views of the water the bedroom is something out of an Arabian fairy tale with a massive bed that rotates around the room of course the furniture isn't the only wonderful thing about the most expensive suite the room comes with a 24 karat gold iPad for you to use during your stay a private elevator to access all the floors and your own Butler who is available 24/7 if you don't feel like room service during your stay no worries there are nine different restaurants to choose from three of the restaurants offer buffet style food but that doesn't mean it comes cheap for example Jon Suey an Asian fusion restaurant has dining there starts at 142 dollars per person 25 chefs cook up the gourmet buffet style food at eight different cooking stations directly in front of the guests and a sea of Swarovski crystals hang overhead for ambiance there's also scape which serves California style cuisine poolside and has some fairly affordable food on its menu all the restaurants are five-star but there is one that rises above the rest Alma Hara is the flagship restaurant of the Burj Al Arab it serves incredible local seafood made by Nathan outlaw a Michelin chef nearly every dish is topped with truffles or caviar and even the complimentary parade comes with beautifully crafted smoked salmon butter that seven bata the main course such as salt baked salmon is valued at over $200 at the restaurant this fine dining takes place in one of the most remarkable dining rooms on earth a 260 thousand gallon aquarium surrounds the tables full of beautiful coral fish and plants the high ceilings are gold with a reflective sheen that makes the room feel even more luxurious if you're not feeling hungry and would rather have a drink you can take the gold and turquoise elevator up to the aptly named gold on 27 the bar and lounge the bar has stunning views of Dubai and of course the entire room is covered in gold chandeliers and crystals hang from the ceiling as if you needed anything else to remind you how expensive this room is the hotel has several pools most of which are located on the terrace are 108 thousand square foot leisure area one of the pools has a beach area surrounding the infinity pool to give it a true resort experience the pool blends into the ocean and the horizon beyond providing a truly breathtaking experience in addition there are 24 cabanas an 8 royal cabanas fit for a king the royal cabanas have air conditioning a full bar and restaurant menu butler service of course and fresh fruit i've always been a fan of honeydew and if you'd rather take a dip inside however the spa is the perfect option for you Talisa gym and spa located on the 18th floor has separate areas for men and women there's a sauna with glass windows that overlook the ocean a massage room an ice-cold plunge pool and steam room on the infinity pool has blue and green mosaic tile to reflect the relaxing atmosphere the pool can also be reserved for a romantic moonlight swim which promises the full pool to yourself and your partner with rose petals in the water and champagne and strawberries on the side sounds like a Bruno Mars song there are endless things to do see and eat at the bones all Iran and I have to say I definitely think it's a seven starix what do you think is the hotel worth it what changes would you make to make it better let me know in the comment
