Inside The Dangerous @Abroad in Japan Ramen Shop

so there we are it looks like we found ourselves a ramen shop and apparently they they sell gyoza let's uh let's do a little exploring see if we can't find anything does this work i think it works it's turning on it says loading it's a very good start look at that we'll have to come back to that later hi everybody and welcome to our stream today we are in the back alleys of sendai japan and this is not this is not enough space for a human to fit through i don't know how this works but we're gonna try and squeeze through there we go hopefully we don't break anything maybe just maybe we can find somebody along the way we've got a full-on dagashi shop here and as you guys know i absolutely love some dugashi i'm sure these will hold up well over time squid on a stick and one of my all-time favorites the airplanes might be stealing one of those today and over here we seem to have a gentleman reading the latest issue of the japan times weekend edition i'm just reading about this uh this fantastic article in japan times youtuber finally has space to create look at that look at that chris broad is an affable young man do you think i'm afraid you're laughable oh the affable yeah basically that's leaking here that's fantastic yeah and the floor is textured as well to make it look like it's yeah it's sort of wet so it has a nice little reflection to it yeah fantastic and think we're both gonna fit in there oh ultimate all right question in here when is abroad in a boat happening we're actually just talking about that we just shot a little bit of a video for you guys for the end of the year that will be coming out in a week or two on tokyo lens so yeah this is the electronic store it's pretty cool as you can see i can't actually go in there that's effort oh come actually looking from here this looks really cool about the street because from this angle i can't see outside the street so it just looks like i'm looking at like an alleyway that's really cool yeah this moroccan fruit yeah awful it's like terrible it's like clay or just just just [ __ ] really and uh but here he came in ate all that sounds good um he was like oh do you know moroccan candy i was like no they went oh eat here and then he ate it all right i didn't even chocolate balls they're good chocolate bars are always good oh chocolate coins i've never seen those before what's that what the [ __ ] is this it's chocolate like no they're just like there's a squid on a stick a dried squid on a stick they're very chewy i mean i haven't really i'm really bad at like looking at things noticing things i'd be like a terrible monk you know uh analyzing your surroundings i just sort of walked through your ears couldn't it like uh when when the the design team built this set i walked in seeing it for the first time i was like wow that's amazing yeah great and they were like is that it is that all you're going to say oh wow because i i'm just not naturally like a oh my god i'm going to kill myself it's so amazing i'm because i hate reactions i hate the way these days we have to sort of react in a really over-the-top fashion everything we do you know oh my god oh look it's a biscuit and it's sweet so that's so amazing oh this doesn't know i can't do it so we met mitch together when we went out to fukushima yeah and actually it was through your introduction that i got the chance to meet mitch mitch used to have his own tv show no way i know and he said that it was really difficult because you'd have to react to food and even if it was like the most subpar food ever it would have to be the biggest over-the-top reaction and anything less was met with severe disappointment well i mean i've done japanese tv and it's like that right you have to be like as though you just sat on a knife like oh my god what happened what's going on here then so uh we got a super chat from tejo 1927 singing an online friend told me that norm band what was in a punk band called the dentist drill actually okay it wasn't called the dentist drill but you went up i was in a punk band many many decades ago that's old old and inaka adventure in here saying to her use in chris's candy shop don't spend it all at once thank you very much oh [ __ ] what's this he just keeps finding things seriously what's that have you noticed this i hadn't what is it uh it's a gumball dispenser so you should be able to push that yellow thing in and the gumball should come out if they're loaded something's in there it's pretty heavy it may not be loaded yet no yeah so they're it's empty right now i feel it's it's just the weird relationship i have with this store because like i i don't really want to touch it i don't want to open things but like that's cool i love these as a kid every oh yeah every kid remembers these the little planes polystyrene planes you made i'm surprised there's any left i expected to walk into the studio and see them all over the floor well that's the thing right it's all about not touching um there's little signs there's little masks back there for example this is the first time i've seen this it's uh is it ultraman it's ultraman oh it's pretty dusty in there and a super chat in there from emmanuel saying hey kristen norm from california love the studio you need to get some kfc lol it's another thing right i only noticed recently is this lights the lights layers the lights light up as lights should come out that's amazing we shot a video in here earlier today and there's a security camera sliding up there here we go i'm in mid-shot and i look up and i feel like it's looking right at me and chris breaks out laughing in the background and we had to reshoot everything that's all there are so many details in here it is just off the hook i've been asked what's your favorite part of the set honestly i am a huge fan of a the super lid it was like the first thing i know she was lit and second off the graffiti like if we turn this around there's so many turn around turn around here there's so many little hidden graffito graffiti graffitis this is this is my favorite bit this is like the hidden alleyway because you never really see it when you're making a video because you're usually going like filming this way so this bit they they didn't have to do anything good here and yet they they still put effort in there's like a drain pipe there's like little stickers and things there's this uh like they put effort in to places that effort wasn't required i think that's the most amazing thing about the set it feels like a living breathing world as opposed to sort of a two-dimensional set yeah yeah if i don't do you achieve with my job i want to be a set designer how cool is this it is spectacular i just there's still every time i look around i'm noticing a detail that i didn't see earlier on like even little things like this they went for the classic ones there's newer ones that depending on where you move the eyes move and follow you they're the you know those like the the zigzag 3d things but yeah i got a couple more super chats in here that i don't want to miss uh laurentify saying awesome seeing you guys together you two are in japan especially specifically polaroid i'm an instant film photographer and always curious of japan's community there's actually a pretty big community for film shooters it helps if you learn japanese along the way but if you google it you'll find a ton of stuff there's facebook groups instagram groups everything there's a good filmmakers group in uh japan right it's just called japan and i sit on the lovely shinkansen ride chris is rearranging the studio right now and maui says can i pick your brain on where the next journey across japan will be hope all of you join joey seadog out in a few days but i've not done a very good job editing it you've not done a good job i've been really busy so i haven't had time to sort of edit it but yeah nothing can top jelly across japan i've been able to exploit this studio to its fullest and do things i've just realized it's something i haven't even noticed before on that wall there looks like counterweights or something what is yeah and it's just a spectacularly beautiful place but out near that entire area there's no shortage of stuff you tend to default to going north well it's quite fun i mean to go that direction of japan you kind of spend your time in japan like one half or the other and then smash the entire set because you know i i don't get to go to the other side japan as much as i like kind of did this year what with jennifer japan yeah and stuff but i'd like to spend more time over that side because i've sort of done north japan to death um so paying you so chris never says the word aluminum again what if i say aluminium aluminium is it snowing in sendai it was last week it was yeah yeah i uh i got here there was just enough snow to make one snowball yesterday made the best of it snowball chris um would you consider a rail base all-island marathon journey across japan i thought about it a lot actually but i don't the problem is on trains in japan you can't really speak uh um so it would be not as interesting as you think and i think logistically a lot more complicated and you need permission from the train companies and when all is said and done it would just suck the fun out of it all sadly so probably not there's a really fancy train that i was hoping to make a video of this year um it's a little pricey uh but i thought it'd be a great video great experience and i contacted jr and they were like absolutely not excellent this is the seven star trek yeah oh it's pretty hard and they're just like we've had influencers or creators make videos inside before it's been a bad experience for everybody [ __ ] creatives creating ruining everything creating things influencing creating songs what's this one yeah i think we got that one and did we get this yeah and our most recent super chat is i lived in tokyo for four years but never got to making youtube videos you guys in the trash chase crew inspired me to give it a try when international travel restarts have a merry christmas yeah definitely you know youtube it's it's it's fun when you've got an idea and you you get to do something you've always wanted to do it's a lot of fun so yeah do it everyone should try youtube once if they if you're thinking about doing like making a youtube video just do it and then if you don't enjoy it it's a noise the whole building is vibrating hopefully it wasn't an earthquake it probably wasn't but uh yeah but no if you're thinking about doing youtube video just do it don't enjoy it but if you do enjoy it you can do it for a job yeah one day i always say the same thing and i actually i don't think you entirely agree with this approach but my approach and advice has always been i feel like we talked about it once and you you gave me that look my approach has always been that you should create for like three months six months a year and do all the work do all the uploading do the title do the thumbnail but don't publish and get to the point where you've grown a love for creating before you start getting into that feedback loop of publishing and if you can consistently create something for example even once a month once every two weeks for six months and you enjoy the process then it's time to publish if not yeah disagree i don't know i don't agree with that because i if i'd done that i wouldn't have the motivation to continue right i needed when i released my first video and i saw a whopping 100 people watched it i was like oh my god people watch my videos and that motivation powered me to get on with the second and then the success of the second video motivated me to do the third if i'd done that approach and i was like i'll make 10 videos over six months then i don't think i would have had the progressive motivation to get to doing it so no you're wrong yeah see that's exactly what i did on my wrong channel though because i was like i get really into the the community and the interaction and everything like that right i love meeting with the fans i like every comment section i'm in there and i knew that that would have an impact on my motivations so for example if one of the first videos i ever did did really terribly i'd be less motivated to do the next one and so i know myself that well it's the same reason that i never got my motorbike license because i know myself well enough to know and yeah be dead and yet now you are a captain and you can you can sail a boat ladies and gentlemen yeah it's less so maybe not so much sailing motorboat yeah haven't learned all the sales and everything but i'll be the next level can you do a hard off video at some point in the future also where i did a hard off video there's a video actually where i went around sendai and did six or seven second hand good stores yeah yeah there are fun second-hand good stores in japan just because people like actually look after their things in japan right yeah in the uk a second hand good story everything just broken a lot of comments like why are japanese second-hand shops so clean people just care here about possessions in the physical world we don't we don't um chris who will win either joey versus connor or a natsuki versus risottoro fight sorry for missing out the first time who would win um joey and connor i think connor would win because he's very competitive and he would like just joe be like hitting connor and then conor just pull out like a knife or a shotgun to finish things fast natsuki and risottoro i think ryotaro would have the upper hand at first but then natsuki would just like stall out program [ __ ] yeah and it's yeah so really yeah from next year we're gonna need to be licensed to fly our drones you still need to know the laws and the rules and everything but all that available all that in all that information is available it's definitely happening it looks like it why there's just been too many problems and i think before the borders open up they want to get it to the point where if you're going to be flying here it needs to be done legitimately so that's the end of the abroad japan drain shot i do i don't imagine it'll be that difficult i think a lot of the testing will okay and it's about an hour south of sendai mm-hmm and they're very big strawberries perfect absolutely like perfect strawberries i didn't put them in the documentary like baseball they're pretty big i wouldn't say baseball size but they're very juicy and very delicious they're sort of really nice balance of sugar and some sweetness and very very good yeah i've never had that strawberry that good but japan does have some really good and fancy fruits so i made a video called uh japan's 200 billion dollar disaster it came out last year in like february or march check it out and you can see them where's your country canada we start chatting what are you doing here where's your country they'll ask me what are you doing here and i say actually i'm making a documentary or whatever uh can i ask you a few questions and interview you nine times out of ten when you've got that little bit of rapport they say yes if you just walk up to somebody when i made the kyoto documentary i was in a rush yeah that was a really good example i'm not very good at doing that i'm not very good at walking up to strangers to be like all right get my video let's go get in the video i'm making a video about chicken and i want your thoughts on chicken and they're like the first time that i did it was the kitakata ramen video that one made me so like anxious and sick because i just walked up to people and i was like hi i'm making a video can i put you can i put you in the video awkward it was so bad but got a lot of kind people what's your favorite thing about aluminum aluminium so that's how we do norman chris i miss japan postponed twice a summer 2022 in sight where do you want to travel when the world opens up i just want to go home i honestly i was supposed to be in the uk as of like yesterday and it's really like hit me this week i've like just sucked the life out of me a little bit because i haven't gone home in two years now and uh i was really looking forward to just having christmas so i thought the kobe thing would be over and then it wasn't and uh yeah it's just a bit [ __ ] i'm not overly happy at the moment and uh i've still got like three episodes to do for 12 days of christmas i've still got to edit some other videos we're in japan and i'm just saying done with the year i just want to like sit in a room and do nothing and uh but i can't and it's kind of annoying feel a little bit trapped at the moment actually that's just because i'm gonna run with norm love you too yeah no i'm not very happy i'm very happy i i do a good job like uh keeping that off camera how i'm not happy but the thing is like we talked in previous there was a stream where i think you had mentioned something like that and then later on someone jumped in the comments and was like how dare you not be grateful for being able to be in japan but we've talked previously about how being able to go back home is your big reset that's your opportunity to gain some perspective get a little distance from japan and go back and appreciate it all over again from the start it doesn't take a long break but being able to separate yourself from something gives you the opportunity to look at it from an outside perspective again it's not just that though it's just japan is the sort of country you need to get out of um every sort of eight months at least i'd say uh you know in japan you're always on your best behavior you're always very aware of how you're acting and uh and i need to not be like that i need to just let go and um yeah it's two years now just sort of been on my best behavior being like i'm in a library but beyond that beyond that i you know i miss family i miss friends i like the uk the uk is quite good i know it's not perfect but there's lots of good things about it but i'll get through it somehow hopefully things will open up sooner than we think fingers crossed for i [ __ ] i want to believe very strongly that they're just looking at the end of the year knowing that japanese people travel at the end of the year and they want to see how that's going to go and then come spring because there is already news that they've said something like what is it a 40 million target for oversea inbound tourism for next year they've already said in 2020 yeah they've already set an inbound tourism target so you would think that that implies wow yeah one would hold so i just saw a comment chris will be a menace when he goes to the uk i won't be a menace i'll literally just be sitting in a pub eating things i'm just relaxing on a well i was going to say a beach but the uk doesn't really have a winter anyway but honestly i just want to sit in the park eating chills on the beach have a week off and not care it's tough being a youtuber sometimes or a creator influence or whatever you want to call it because you're you know you're always switched on on twitter on facebook instagram youtube in my case patreon as well i like everything it's i'm always focused on something and i just need a a few days maybe a week just nothing yeah then i'll be happy that's right the end of the year i take a week to two weeks just turn everything off just disappear into the mountains for like a week into the mountain to chill out with the bears yeah the one with the beds that's unbearable and rinic i hope i said that right is norm now that you have part of the itinerary at one point across japan that we did last year or this year uh because in kyushu off just off kyushu but from what i could tell there wasn't really a whole lot in tsushima worth filming there wasn't really much there i'm sure it's a nice place to chill and have a like explore but there wasn't really anything that we could make an interesting video out of so i didn't i took tsushima at the itinerary you go there you stay there on your boat feels like it's one of those places where you'd need to talk to the people and gather the story yeah you'd be perfect for that rock
