[Music] this is Nick with logos by Nick comm and in today's tutorial I'll be demonstrating how you can create these abstract wireframe patterns using Inkscape so I'll go ahead and get started here in Inkscape by the way if you'd like to know how you can update its appearance with this dark theme and these new icons we'll have a link to that information in the description of the video so the first thing we want to do is set up our document so that we are all working with similar settings so I'll go to file file document properties try that again file document properties and I'm gonna set the display units to pixels and I'm going to turn off the page border we can close out of that and then we want to go to view make sure we have custom selected and then we'll zoom in at 1 to 1 and then I'll open up the alignment distribute menu with this button up here and I'll make sure we have the relative to sets a less selected and that will open up the the edit objects colors gradients and Stroke menu with that button there so the first thing I'm gonna do is create a circle I'm gonna grab the circle and ellipses tool and hold ctrl and shift in the keyboard and click and drag on the canvas to create a perfectly round circle like that and what I want to do is get rid of the fill color and give this an outline so I'm gonna click on this X over here to get rid of the fill color and then I'm gonna hold shift and click on the color black to give that an outline otherwise known as a stroke and then I'll go to the stroke style tab let me change that to pixels and we just want to set the size to maybe 2 pixels something like that looks pretty good and then we can go back to the Select tool and up here where it says when scaling objects scale the stroke width by the same proportion make sure you have that turned off and once you've done that we can right click on that circle and go to duplicate and then hold ctrl and shift and scale this down about this much maybe about that much like that and once we've done that I'm gonna click and drag over both of those circles and go to paths combined and then we'll go to path path effects and then click on this plus icon to add a new path effect and I'm gonna come down here in this list and look for stitch sub paths right there go ahead and add that and for the number of pads I'm gonna use I'm gonna start out with 75 for this one let's see how that looks and then right down right down here you should see this little icon that says edit on canvas or it says stitch path go ahead and click on that and it's gonna put this little green line with two nodes going to each two nodes connecting it together right through the center of the graphic and then you can just click and drag on that line and alter it to change the position and the shapes of those lines and this is something you could really just play around with for a while to create some pretty cool stuff like I'm gonna move this line over here like that I'm gonna do that you can hit control Z to undo it do something like this over here move that around some more that looks pretty cool this is similar to like what I did before the the thumbnail of a video like what with a shape like that and if you want you could even double click that green line to put a new node on there and then you could alter it even further with that additional node just to give you an idea and what you can do is once you once you're finished which once you're finished with it you can finalize it by going to path object to path and you can grab your select tool you can see you have this abstract pattern this abstract wireframe pattern and if you want to change the color of it you're not going to change the fill color you have to change the stroke color because this is all a stroke so I'm gonna hold shift and click on a color down here and as you can see if you hold shift you can change it to any color you'd like and this can work with any shape not just circles like I'll show you how it works with this star for example I'll use a five corner star 0.375 and I'll hold ctrl and shift and create a star like that maybe I'll bring this node out a little bit let me grab the Select tool I'll duplicate this shape by hitting ctrl D hold ctrl and shift and scale is down like that we're just repeating the same steps we previously used click and drag over both of those so they're both selected and go to path combined and then again we'll add a path effect to it stitch sub paths and there we go I'll use a new 75 paths and they'll click on this icon right here that says edit on canvas and you just pull this line around and change the shape of it however you'd like and that's that's pretty much how you can go about creating this sort of thing using Inkscape so go ahead and play around with it and create something cool if you have any questions let me know and as always thanks for watching [Music] [Music]
