welcome to an overview of Microsoft Office InfoPath 2010 what is InfoPath and what can we do with it InfoPath is a program that allows us to create and deploy electronic forms to efficiently gather share and reuse information like business data from the people we work with colleagues suppliers customers and so on InfoPath 2010 itself consists of two parts InfoPath designer and InfoPath filler designer is used to create and publish form templates publishing browser compatible InfoPath forms also requires access to SharePoint Server 2010 running InfoPath forms services InfoPath filler on the other hand is used by people outside of the SharePoint environment to simply open and fill out InfoPath forms with the 2010 release InfoPath is more tightly integrated with Microsoft SharePoint and along with InfoPath forms services makes it easy to build more powerful SharePoint applications quickly like customizing the forms used to create view and edit SharePoint list items creating workflow applications together with SharePoint designer 2010 and using the InfoPath form web part which makes it easy to reuse existing forms or connect to other webparts without writing code InfoPath forms can be published to a SharePoint library for users to access and enter the data for everyday business processes such as expense reports vacation requests surveys or evaluations info paths design mode with its new interface featuring the ribbon and backstage view making it consistent with other microsoft office applications is where we design and publish interactive user friendly form templates with drag-and-drop ease we can create standalone form templates or ones that work with existing databases and various data sources including SharePoint itself along with standard form controls like text and list boxes we can insert controls that let users add remove replace or hide sections of a form things like repeating Abel's choice groups and optional sections that let us design a truly flexible form template we can design a single form template that includes multiple views to show different versions of a form to different people based on their role in our organization create a print friendly view of a form or split longer forms into multiple pages that users can navigate through and with the import wizard existing Microsoft Word or Excel forms are converted into InfoPath form templates we can save time by creating template parts portions of a form template that can be saved and reused in multiple form templates important too is that InfoPath is based on extensible markup language or XML meaning completed form data is saved or submitted as industry standard XML making it easier for us to use the collected data with this overview of InfoPath 2010 we're now ready to proceed to clips that will help get our electronic forms and information gathering projects in order for still more information about InfoPath 2010 visit microsoft.com/testlabguides you
