INAUGURAL FLIGHT on Silver Airways (Greensboro to Nashville)

inaugural flights are always a ton of fun but this might be one of the most special ones I've ever been a part of hello jet Setters it's always exciting when an airline starts new service but particularly when it's here at my home airport join me for silver Airways first flight from Greensboro North Carolina here's the plan we'll leave Greensboro at 10 20 in the morning and fly for just under two hours over 377 miles to land in Nashville Tennessee at 11 10. silver Airways describes itself as a regional Airline it focuses on connecting Florida the southeast and the Bahamas and back in 2018 they acquired San Juan Puerto rico-based Seabourn Airways Suzanne and I flew them back a few years ago that acquisition added destinations throughout the Caribbean silver now has a fleet of 14 ATR 72s just like the one we'll be flying today they also operate seed plants between St Thomas and Saint Croix Greensboro North Carolina's airport also known as Piedmont Triad International or PTI is one of the easiest to navigate in the country their motto is fly easy and that's exactly what it's like here I had some extra time so I hung out on the airport's world famous front porch before checking in naturally there's a festive atmosphere here at the check-in counter and I know you'll find it hard to believe but I was so excited about this trip I was the first passenger to check in for this new service and the crew wanted to take a picture with me to celebrate who was I to say no first customer yeah the interest of full disclosure silver Airways was kind enough to offer to pay for my ticket and even compensate me for making this video I declined that though because I want to provide you an honest depiction of the experience and I feel like if I'm being compensated I can't do that so we always pay for our travel here at greenergrass.com that's our promise to you anyway let's get back to the Flying [Music] you know what new service means it's party time look at this [Music] silver Airways uses an ATR 72 turbo prop for the service so the airport created a new gate space at ground level but I quickly headed back upstairs because the airplane is about to touch down from Orlando the very first silver Airways ATR to land in Greensboro ever this is so exciting they've got a water cannon salute set up let's check it out foreign a water cannon salute is an honor given to special flights and this one certainly qualifies I thought it looked beautiful with the morning sun shining brightly and just like that a brand new Airline here at PTI but let's get in the air and see what that's like and about 20 minutes before departure all right time to board this bird the ATR is quite a plane and I'm super stoked to be on board this one the former Avianca plane as a matter of fact but uh let's hop on board right now like a lot of inaugural flights this one had its share of Aviation enthusiasts on board it made a festive flight even more fun what a beautiful bird am I right look at this ATR killer plane huh say hello everybody hey baggage is stored up there between the cockpit in the front and the passenger cabin in the back a check bag costs 30 dollars by the way now boarding is from the rear of the airplane a rare treat these days there's room for 70 passengers in a 2-2 configured cabin this is a pretty straightforward seat design with not too many bells or whistles but that's not really what you'd expect when one-way fares are as low as 50 on this route although you'll pay an extra four dollars to select a seat unfortunately the overhead reading lights didn't work but the air Vance did which was good because it was hot speaking multiple board silver flight 47 was service to Nashville Tennessee this is our inaugural flight so we greatly appreciate your business today and joining us we're looking at an hour and 48 minutes of flight time and we're going up to looks like 18 000 feet I know some passengers see a propeller and get nervous but the ATR 72 is a turbo prop which means it's basically powered by jet engines without going into too many details it's just as safe as a jet but more fuel efficient they do tend to fly at lower altitudes the Jets but that just means better views also turbo props tend to be a little louder than jet engines there is so much happening here at PTI I'll link to a video in the description below that I made about this airport it's a really cool place [Music] [Music] we had a great view of winston-sale of our city next door and its airport Smith Rentals [Music] the water can't complain about that now of course I brought me an iPad to watch for entertainment their retainment is as always out these windows it's super rude because you're right over the Appalachian Mountains as you crossing the Tennessee this the Peaks on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee are some of the highest in the entire Appalachian mountain chain so this mode of transportation is a bonus sightseeing flight now this is a great route for people in Greensboro it takes seven or eight hours to make the drive to Nashville so flying saves a ton of time Regional Airlines like silver and others with similar business model are fantastic ways to connect smaller communities I love Roots like this growing up in Greensboro like many people in smaller communities it seems like getting anywhere requires a connection through Atlanta Charlotte Chicago or some other Hub City this point-to-point flying is a real treat for people like me there's actually surprisingly large when Syracuse on the crj200 for sure thank you [Music] it's like that it's time we get hard to sand like this trips try it out of the air line new room this is just this is what it's all about and with that it's time for the Jeb score we've modified it a bit now for economy flights to better reflect that experience since you'll be seeing more of those kinds of flights in the coming weeks and months instead of a lounge we'll consider the experience on the ground things like how organized is boarding and check-in matter here and silver did them well especially considering this was the first time they'd done it here plus I'm biased but PTI offers pretty much everything you need given the fact that you don't have to check in very early since it's a fly easy airport there are also restaurants and plenty of seating around the ground experience here earns 5 Stars the seat on board is extremely basic but it was roomy enough with a large tray table four stars here the food was well it was just a bottle of water a bag of I don't know goldfish or something would be a nice addition to the onboard experience and if they can load water surely they can load something else maybe maybe even just a mint anyway that's worth two stars the Ife is completely non-existent and that's acceptable in a 90-minute flight like this one but they'll soon be flying from Tampa to Greensboro at nearly three hours there's a lot more time in the air here on Silver you'd better pack your own entertainment because they're in zero Stars but the onboarding service was really something special our two flight attendants were fantastic they were in a festive mood today celebrating with all of us five stars to them so that leaves Silver's service from Greensboro to Nashville with 16 out of 25 Stars which is pretty reasonable for a flight like this great now in the next time see in the sky [Music]
