rev up your engines all right they might lie to you to jam deal and say oh that's normal they burn oil but general motors just got hit with a class action suit over oil burning and their 2.4 liter engines it's a 2.4 liter ecotech engine and yes they do burn oil as they age there's no arguing that i see in all my customers cars and it doesn't matter if you change the oil a lot they're just poorly made you throw turbo charging on them it just wears them out faster even honda had a problem with their 1.5 liter and hey that's honda they make the best engines in the world gm does not and turbo charging on their engines they're going to burn oil even worse hey an interesting technological breakthrough there's no arguing that they get a lot of power they get a gas mileage but they didn't make the piston rings right or the blocks one or the other and they wear out and the pressure goes through and it clogs everything up and eventually the engine explodes and if they don't explode hey they burn an awful lot of oil and americans a lot of them don't check the oil so if you got an oil burner and you don't check the oil course you're going to blow the engine i've seen that with many customers over the years and here's how gm has done previously they've won all these cases about oil burner because gm's lawyers say that gm's warranty only applies to manufacturing defects that they didn't build them right not design defects oh they built them the way they were supposed to build them but they weren't designed right this is absurd this is how nutty our society has gotten yes they burn out but the reason they burn oil is because they weren't designed right and the warranty doesn't have anything to do with design only with the manufacturer we built them the way they were designed now come on now this is the most absurd thing i've ever heard of they designed it they built it but the warranty isn't going to cover that they built it okay they just didn't design it right it's the same company right let's hope they didn't win this one if they do i've given up on a legal system of trying to get even where they're just going to find a technicality it's the same company that manufactures and designs it if they screw up does it really matter which one but technically the lawyers say oh no you don't have to pay it because it was built okay it was just designed wrong it's nuts it's absolutely nuts well here's an interesting thing about why people on the east coast ran on gasoline for a while when they had those hackers shut down a colonial pipeline i originally thought well what do they do they shut the valves or something like that got computers here's the only thing they did they made the company the pipeline company unable to bill its customers so since they couldn't bill the customers they wouldn't ship them any it wasn't like the pipeline wasn't working or they couldn't deliver it no it was that they couldn't build them so of course the corporate geniuses of america we can't build them we're not going to give them any you think they'd have a contingency plan for that okay here you got a hundred thousand gallons here's your bill you know then had it on later not that they had it shut down and they all was flowing perfectly fine they said they couldn't build their customers this is how absurd our country has got i remember years ago there was a hurricane in houston went to a kroger's they didn't have any power the computers were all down hey they still sold food the guys would guess on how much the food was and of course that's a bunch of people all at once so you know they're guessing here they're guessing they're there they know how much they're getting and they know they only have a certain amount of customers that are buying them it's not like there's hundreds of thousands you buying at the pump these are companies that are buying large volumes right you think they could have figured that out themselves but no you know that's too much for the corporate morons of america so they just stopped giving to people because they couldn't bill them anymore so they didn't get the money back from bitcoin the government went through and found out who got it and took the money back that they paid their answer for but really if the only thing they stopped was the ability for them to build boy that shows you the infrastructure is robbed to the core that the supply chain stops because oh well we couldn't build them so we're not going to give them anything hey something's wrong here boring to drive says scotty my 2018 subaru outback needed a new cvt transmission 39 000 miles is it a common subaru problem well it's not as common as it used to be they used to go out a lot more but still you can see they go out you know you don't see honda and toyota cvt transmissions going out at 39 000 miles but yes it does happen with subaru it's always been the subaru weak link are there automatic transmissions and now they're putting cvts which are basically a type of automatic transmission you don't shift them they don't even have gears they have drums but they're still somewhat weak which is the reason i would not buy a subaru like richardson said i got an o8 chevy trailblazer with rusted frame and broke cv axle should i patch the rest and fix the axle or just junk it depends how rusted the frame is let's say you live in michigan where they salt the roads all the time and that frame is really cracked i mean it's really cracking all over the place probably time to get rid of get a hammer start hitting it all down if it crunches in the whole way to frame shot you might just fix the cv axle and just sell it to somebody who wants a junk truck to take out hunting in the woods and he doesn't care that if one day the frame cracks in half he's only riding out in the woods and just junking on his farm you know depends on how bad the frame is if it's rotted the whole way through don't even bother fixing it guys are always looking for stuff like that to use for hunting vehicles or farmers want them for putting out in the field so you never know dh says could you explain blow by my nissan navara v6 diesel needs rear main seal replace a mechanic set engine as blow buying crank pressure might need rebuild well the thing is piston rings are supposed to seal your engine so the pressure going up and down when you crunch the gasoline and air mixture and then it fires and goes down stays in the upper combustion chamber and then goes out your exhaust if your piston rings an engine is worn inside then all that pressure blows by the rings and goes into the crankcase and let's say your mechanic's right he might put a new seal on that engine and then it blows out because there's too much pressure in it now make sure that your venting system for the crank venting system is working because if that's not working it can have a problem blow the seals out but normally if that system works good you might smoke and burn a little bit of oil but it won't blow the seals because the crank case venting system will take that extra pressure and then push it back into the intake and then burn it in the engine instead of blowing the seals out so you could have a problem with your crankcase venting system haven't checked that too prodigy says scotty i want to ask why does my ac compressor make a grinding noise when the ac is off and on since it's doing it's both on and off that means that your bearing in the compressor and the clutch is just shot because if it only makes it when the compressor is on that means that the compressor itself is wearing out because if you turn it off and it stops then it's only spinning the belt on the bearing on the clutch assembly but if it makes it when it's both on and off that means that that main bearing is just shot because it's spinning all the time and don't try to fix by replacing just the bearing believe me replace the entire compressor and clutch assembly as a unit when one goes bad the next is soon to follow i've had a lot of foolish people over the years say oh i just put a clutch bearing on it because it was bad and then a month later the whole thing broke no replace the whole thing if you want to fix it correctly the compressor with the clutch assembly and bearing all new the rebuilt ones stink too i got a video on that why rebuild ac compressor stick watch it then you'll never buy one after watching that video full gaze he said what are your thoughts on new jeeps with a 3.6 panda star v6 and 8-speed auto well i don't like the stuff that jeep makes since fiat took over and now it's stellantis that runs them but the 8-speed automatics most of the ones i've seen those are the austrian automatic transmissions the zf and if it's a zf 8-speed auto those are great transmissions i know they're buying a lot of them from the austrians those are great transmissions but the pentastar engine they've had a lot of problems over the years i do not like jeep's quality control especially since fiat took over and since peugeot took it over under stolantis now i don't see any better quality coming out i'm not a fan of that stuff but the transmission itself if you've got the zf8 speed those are great transmissions i found an old jeep guy brought over and it had the cf training it was still running like a clock that still shifted good every gas instead i got no four nissan road 145 000 miles installing should i get rid of this baby well you're not going to get anything for it being at all with that many miles maybe it's something simple try my video make your car run better with a little spray cleaner you're going to clean the throttle and you're going to clean the mass air flow sensor and also look for vacuum leaks when it's idling your sucking sounds maybe a vacuum hose fell off a rod it could be something that simple could be a simple fix why get rid of it for something dumb like that but if it's none of that stuff yeah get rid of it because it's nearing the end of its lifespan but you're not going to get much for it and what the heck if you can fix it with spray cleaner or you know four dollar piece of rubber hose that fell off try that first ten pieces does the charcoal and charcoal canister ever need replacing a great question well yeah they will go bad and they'll be filled up with hydrocarbons they don't work anymore but most of them are cheap plastic pieces of crap and you can't take it apart and put new charcoal you got to buy the whole thing and since the dealer's charged so much some of those things are like four or five hundred bucks it's kind of a stinker it should be that you could take them apart and then replace the charcoal and put them together but they're plastic units and they're all you know glued together you can't really do that i suppose if you really wanted to get a heat gun and cut them apart put some new you could try if you really wanted to but they're not made to have the charcoal replaced it'd be a real pain in the butt jolly what are your thoughts on a 01 silverado okay i'm not a fan of gm cars but a 2001 silverado could still be a great truck because back then they were still making pretty good vehicles they weren't making all the crap that they put on in mexico they were making them in the united states i had a customer buy one six months ago for like 2 500 bucks sure it had 140 000 miles but it ran like a clock he loved it it's a secondary knock-around truck that he can put all the crap in doesn't care that it has dents in it they can be great trucks now like a 2020 or 21 or even a 2016 silverado no i wouldn't want one but those old ones they were much better made calling a dying ciscotti why don't you like monroe shocks because the company's been going downhill for decades when i was a young mechanic monroe made pretty good shocks right 20 years ago i thought i'll try some on my old toyota i put them on and about nine months later they were all worn out so i thought let's check something out so i saved my old original toyota shocks right and i cut them in half and the pistons that absorb all the shocking inside were like this big in diameter right so then i got the monroe shocks and i cut them in half their pistons were this big they were like one-third the diameter so of course they're not going to work as well the more surface area the better it's going to damp shocks right they just make stuff too cheap and a lot of the stuff's made overseas now too it's not made here in the united states that's why i don't like them it's a big corporation that makes stuff cheaper and cheaper and cheaper as time goes on and i don't like supporting that kind of crap so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell [Music] you
