Toyota How Could You Do This to Your Customers

rev up your engines all right people can talk till they're blue in the face about cars but until you get an actual one and an actual owner you don't know squat so here's a 2008 toyota 86 that the customer bought used and we didn't go through the whole thing now he paid 21.5 and it's originally 29 30 000 car so he saved some money granted this is during coronavirus time the prices of everything are nuts and hilariously enough since he bought it i just looked it up and it's worth about four or five trading more than what he paid for it now prices are going up so high so they're not really expensive vehicles but they're pretty well made still is one thing it's called the toyota 86 but what's up here manufactured by subaru okay but understand this toyota owns 20 of subaru so i guess you could say all subaru is a 20 toyota this is basically a subaru one of its big pluses is it's got a six-speed automatic transmission that's made by toyota it's a toyota transmission they got all kinds of deals going back and forth if it had a subaru automatic transmission in it i wouldn't be impressed this is one of the rear-wheel drive six-speed automatics that toyota made so think about it it's called a toyota but it's really subaru only it's not all-wheel drive these wheels just roll down the road it's only rear-wheel drive as far as it stands it's the only vehicle subaru makes it an all-wheel drive they're really into all wheel drive that's why people drive them up north where it's snow people go out in mud they don't get stuck and they make great all-wheel drive systems well subaru thought well we're going to make an all-wheel drive car so let's get a toyota transmission and put it rear wheel drive on this particular subaru and then toyota says okay we'll sell them as toyota 86 it's the subaru boxer engine four cylinder the boxer with two on one side two on the other and it's hooked up to a rear-wheel drive six-speed toyota automatic transmission now i'm personally a standard transmission guy but it doesn't make that much difference with a standard this thing puts out 205 horsepower with this automatic it puts out 200 and it's got paddle shifters on you can have fun with it so it really isn't that much difference and understand is totally a marketing thing for the united states in the united states 96 percent of the people drive automatic transmissions the market for this is small enough to begin with and if you shut it down to only a standard transmission you're not going to sell them that well they don't sell that many of them here's the figures 2018 they sold 4100 2019 hundred two thousand twenty twenty four hundred and two thousand twenty one so far they've sold one thousand of them so they're not selling that many they're not making that many you might have noticed in the past i said oh boxer engine subaru stay away from the blowhead gaskets they finally figured out what kind of material to make the head gaskets out of you keep oiling them you don't overheat the engine they no longer have that problem and of course a lot of them had valve problems this c45 boxer engine does not have valve problems i've never seen them without problems that's not the case for their six cylinder engines they still get all kinds of problems they're over engineered i've had customers with the six cylinder subarus they get 40 50 000 miles of valve star clutter clattering the pistons start knocking they're overpowered and they're hooked up to transmissions they can't take the power and their automatic transmissions burn out this is not the case got an extremely reliable six-speed toyota automatic transmission that goes rear-wheel drive only nothing to worry about and if you look around you notice it doesn't have a turbo charger you know what that means turbochargers make them go fast by ram and more airing when you ram more air in it's the same thing as increasing the compression inside the engine making it a higher pressure and guess what higher pressure does it wears things out faster this thing probably is going to last forever i've had customers with subarus with plain jane boxer fours got 250 300 they were still going strong not a race engine but this is a light little car and with the automatic it's got 200 horsepower it's plenty enough to get itself around with course with the rear wheel drive it's a classic sports car people want to drift of course they want to drift they're going to get a standard transmission that's just how it goes this is an elderly gentleman he doesn't want to drift he wants a dependable car once you start it you can tell it's a subaru because it's got that subaru boxer noise to it but with a dual exhaust these things can sound quite nice too it's not like a regular subaru that sounds kind of like a motorboat these have a much better tuned exhaust on them that's a toyota 86 guess what the exhausts are 86 millimeters we get inside we can tell it's a sporty car black and chrome it does have a back seat if you have extremely small people as you can see the seats back i can't even get my finger between there so we're talking about really skinny people or just a couple of baby seats until they get bigger of course having that toyota six-speed automatic transmission you can fiddle with the paddle shifters when you're shifting you can play with those things all day long if you want and you can turn the traction control off you want to go faster sports snow or put it in track mode now it is a subaru but subarus have good air conditioners too seats are form-fitting they are nice for zooming around and you're not going to be thrown around they're comfortable but they're not outrageously tough where they'll hold you in but you're uncomfortable as can be i'm like a pee in a pod and this one feels quite good let's take it for a ride now the first thing you notice when you put it in reverse is guess what the shifter isn't shaking at all you could balance a quarter on there if you wanted to but i do have to say i don't like this because it's got the backup camera there and it's really kind of small you can't see all that well with it i would have put it down there you hold this down it goes to complete track mode so we'll have a little more zip now of course it handles quite well this thing is made for a two-wheel roadster they're fun to drive around and like any two-wheeled rollster you hear road noise a lot of that's the tires but that's what these things do do not under any condition buy a sports car and think it's going to be quiet my wife rode around on the toyota supra when i was road testing it hey she hated the ride it was just too rough for her even when you put it on the smoothest setting the sports cars they're not made for smooth riding and i made for fun zippy driving a pretty good advantage with the mirrors you can see all around and the front is easy to see hilariously enough original these cars were sold as a scion and the problem that my customers the scions all had was they couldn't see the front of the car and they were always running into things this thing you can see the front of the car it's a much better design now let's see what this 200 horses can do with lost five with the automatic anymore get set go now once it winds up it's not a race car it's a fun car for driving around it there's one real problem with this car is it looks a lot faster than it actually is and he says people ought to want to race him and he's like hey you know maybe he's going to race somebody in a volkswagen or something but you're not going to be racing around corvettes and stuff it's a 200 horsepower fun little rear-wheel drive car now of course with the boxer engine and it's naturally aspirated it gets pretty good gas mileage his last rating was 35 miles a gallon and for a fun little car you can't argue that it's probably one of the reasons they put a turbocharger on it and it would start eating up gas people would be driving it faster engine would wear out faster everything would wear out faster and you get worse gas much this thing is a fun quick little car that gets great gas mileage it's really fun and the twisties it really handles well it's a fun car to drive around now the owner is a toyota fan he's got a chaunder and he says when he gets out of this thing gets in the tundra the tundra's like a boat he sets which of course it's a big tall giant truck there's a lot of difference in this jug to the ground rear-wheel drive boxer engine that's flat low to the ground the weight distribution of this car is really well done you don't feel like you're gonna slide off the road you don't feel like you're gonna lose control it doesn't have oversteer it doesn't have understeer especially when americans are getting lazy there's nothing wrong with an automatic transmission that shifts this smooth and being a toyota will probably last forever nah toyota know that people are going to have fun with these things so you know you could turn the traction on and off we'll turn it back on but they deliberately did that because they know people want to have some fun with these things it's a pretty fun vehicle it's dependable it gets great gas mods but realize the only thing that's toyota about this is the transmission it's a bulletproof toyota 6-speed automatic rear-wheel drive transmission everything else is subaru but it's subaru that's made okay but i do have to say stylistically the front let's get over to my old celica i don't know it looks pretty similar so it's kind of like a modernized celica so you might wonder why didn't toyota remake the celica that's because they don't sell that many of them look what i said one year they sold a thousand the most they ever sold was like 4 500. it's not a profit making enterprise to research develop and build a brand new sports car same thing with their toyota supra the new one that's a bmw roadster made completely by bmw in their case it's all bmw parts they don't use toyota parts they use all bmw parts it's got a zf transmission it doesn't have a toyota there's nothing wrong with a cf transmission those austrians know how to make good transmissions the zf hpa high performance hp they're fantastic transmissions too but they're not toyotas and this really isn't a toyota either but it's a fun little car you can find one used hey you can have a lot of fun with it just realize one thing it looks a lot faster than it is and be prepared for that if you buy one so if you never want to miss another one of my new car
