OFFICER LINDSEY: Can
you call the sergeant? OFFICER PITTMAN: If
there's a gun or a knife, don't reach for it. MAN 1: Hold up, man. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Step out of the car. MAN 1: This is bull [BLEEP]. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Step out of the car. [MUSIC - INNER CIRCLE, "BAD
BOYS"] (SINGING) Bad boys! Whatcha want,
whatcha want, whatcha gonna do when the sheriff
John Brown come for you. OFFICER LINDSEY: As we
were on routine patrol in the area of about
46th Avenue in Missouri, the partner who I was with
that night noticed a truck. He didn't see a
license plate on it. We conducted a traffic
stop at that time. And as soon as we got out
of our vehicle on approach, the driver stuck his hands out. He was just being a little
bit fidgety, a little bit nervous with us coming up. MAN 1: I'm telling
you, look, it's a trip. Look underneath this thing. I've been tripping out because
I just bought this vehicle about two weeks ago. I got the temp tag. OFFICER PITTMAN:
Turn the engine off. MAN 1: It's my vehicle-- my name, no warrants,
no wants, nothing. OFFICER PITTMAN: Every time I
tried to explain the situation to him, he would interrupt. He was very scatterbrained. He mentioned that he did time in
the Department of Corrections. I asked him if he had any
weapons or anything on him, anything that he shouldn't have. During that time, he
became very agitated. You don't have
anything illegal on-- you don't have anything
illegal on you at the moment? MAN 1: I mean-- OFFICER PITTMAN: Two simple
questions-- any weapons or anything that you
shouldn't have in the car? Could you step out? MAN 1: For what? OFFICER PITTMAN: Make sure you
don't have any weapons on you. MAN 1: Why? I'm in the clear. OFFICER LINDSEY: That's
kind of an indicator does that either he's not
being truthful with us, and he's got something in
the truck that he's hiding, or he just doesn't
want to admit it. Usually we go on the ask, tell,
make theory on that point. We usually try to
give him a chance to come out and talk to us. If they don't want to listen
to us at that point in time, we end up usually having to
force the situation, which we did at this point. OFFICER PITTMAN:
Don't reach for it. MAN 1: Hold up, man. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Step out of the car. MAN 1: This is bull [BLEEP]. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Step out of the car. MAN 1: [INAUDIBLE] me. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Step out of the car. MAN 1: Hold on. I'm stepping out. OFFICER PITTMAN:
Don't pull away. Step, step. OFFICER LINDSEY:
Drop that cigarette. OFFICER PITTMAN:
And at that time, my partner stepped in with me. We removed him from the truck. He continued to struggle, so
we took him to the ground. OFFICER LINDSEY: He's got a-- MAN 1: Sir, sir. No! [INAUDIBLE] All right, all right. Stop! OFFICER PITTMAN: Small knife. MAN 1: Stop! They're terrorizing me. OFFICER PITTMAN:
There's something else. MAN 1: No! Ow. I'm not doing-- there's
nothing in my hand. Get off me. I'm not doing anything, man. [YELLING] OFFICER LINDSEY: My partner
was able to search him, and during the search, we were
able to find an open blade knife in one of his
pockets and brass knuckles in another pocket. If I had to guess,
he probably knew that he had something on
him that he shouldn't have and that being the
case, that's why he was hesitant on coming out. OFFICER PITTMAN: I ask you two
simple questions, any weapons or anything that you
shouldn't have in the car? Simple answer is yes, sir,
I have a pocket knife. I have a pair of brass knuckles. Two simple answers, right? But when you start
getting hesitant, start trying to figure out a way
out of things, like you were-- MAN 1: I understand. OFFICER PITTMAN: Then I
understand that there's something else going on. OFFICER LINDSEY: After
it was all said and done in talking with him,
he's more or less just said that he's
fallen on some hard times. It is sad to see that somebody
who has done previous DOC time that can come out, try to
fit back in with society, and just can't. OFFICER PITTMAN: For someone
that doesn't have a job and doesn't have
a place to live, that's probably the best
thing for him at that time. OFFICER: Point one out
to me because I'm not seeing what you're seeing. MAN 2: See how
they're crushed in? OFFICER: So that's it? MAN 2: It could be or stem. That could be a
fiber optic or seed. OFFICER: Fiber optic seed? MAN 2: No, fiber optic
line, and I've even got-- OFFICER: Yeah, I'm
aware of what they are-- MAN 2: Yes, sir. OFFICER: --very aware.
