I Was Trapped Under My Crush's Pool for 24 Hours

when i think about parties getting trapped in a pool under an automatic pool cover is never the first thought that comes to my mind but one day when i was invited to a pool party at my crush's house that was just what happened to me the fact that i was trapped in there was sandy i still couldn't decide whether it was good or bad luck hi i'm eli and i was trapped in a pool with my crush for 24 otherwise sandy and i would have been frozen long before anyone found us sandy didn't even know who i was before then her cousin laila invited me and knowing that the party was at my crush's house i didn't even have to think twice i'd pined after her the whole afternoon i'd be talking to other people with one eye following wherever sandy was twice i tried to talk to her but all i could manage was a couple of lame pickup lines that only made the interaction exceedingly awkward honestly i was telling the line between pathetic and creepy that day as the afternoon rolled by the party began to die down and as the number of people dwindled so too did the chances i had to actually repair my previous impressions i knew i had to move quickly i moved so quick i bumped into her and my nose hit her forehead as i stood in front of sandy embarrassed and awkwardly rubbing my smarting nose she said are you back to give me more of your cheesy lines i was gonna pretend like i wasn't instead what i said was you know actually i was luckily for the both of us i'm more clumsy than cheesy sandy finally laughed i have to thank your clumsiness then she said saved us both from another painful five seconds i chuckled at that yeah sorry i said no no no no don't apologize it was funny said sandy uh i'm eli by the way i said as i extended my hand to shake hers she took my hand and gently shook it once her hands were soft and warm ah eli finally you got the chance to tell me your name i was starting to think you just came here to drop one-liners and sneak off after each one alright now you're just making fun of me kinda laugh sandy but it was so deeply entertaining to see her face whenever you failed she cocked her head to the side and smiled her dimples showed and it made my ears hot i'm sandy i looked into her eyes and i replied oh yeah i know who you are you mean because you're at a party at my house she asked no because i've been waiting all day to talk to you i replied that made sandy blush and when i saw that i felt elated i guess she liked knowing that i was interested when the last of the party-goers began to leave i offered to help her clean up i figured it would be a great way to spend some time with her and make a better impression you know best foot forward and such because our past interactions have all been me putting forward as awkward a foot as i could possibly manage she thanked me for staying behind we didn't really get much cleaning done though we talked and talked until the sun began to set and then we lay by the pool and looked at the stars we were really getting into some good rom-com stuff by then sandy suggested we should take another dip before we close the pool up and finally start with the long overdue cleaning of the premises sandy could have asked me for anything at that point if she asked me to jump from the roof i would have i was simping hard sandy wasn't just a pretty face she was funny she was smart and she talked like no other girl at school to me it seemed like we were on the same wavelength best of all she was just as much a sci-fi nerd as i was sandy and i were so deep into our conversation about whether or not the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy was the greatest sci-fi comedy of all time that we didn't even notice that our dog had been trying to get our attention the whole time after a while we began to entertain ourselves by seeing who could stay underwater for longer and that was our biggest mistake of the night as we struggled to keep ourselves underwater both keen on out doing the other sandy's dog buster was busy accidentally pressing the button to close the pool cover above us when we finally went up for air the cover had latched itself shut oh no oh no crap exclaimed sandy is there any way to open this from inside shouldn't there be like a button somewhere i said trying to process the whole thing as calmly as i could in all honesty i was scared out of my mind no no said sandy again there's no button my voice raised about two octaves when sandy confirmed my fears well that's just unsafe i exclaimed in a voice that much resembled my younger sisters you think replied sandy she tried to keep her head above water as buster jumped up and down the cover above us ignorant of the fact that he had potentially sentenced sentences human to a slow drowning we scaled the length of the pool looking for gaps in other possible ways we could get ourselves out but to our misfortune sandy's dad paid a pretty penny for top tier pool protection if only the high price also included a switch for when you get trapped under it we screamed and called out but no one came that was one clear downside of living at the edge of town i guess at first the horror of the situation didn't sink in we were still calm and collected we spent the first few minutes just looking for stuff to do sharing stories and getting to know each other as if we were on a date it was kind of fun i guess if anything was going to make my crush remember me it was that i wish we'd at least taken some uno cards with us down here i lamented uno seriously who even plays zuno anymore said sandy i do i play uno you're so weird i was not about to take sandy's slight on the card game lying down or halfway floating for that matter i'll have you know a lot of people play uno i laughed maybe you're the weird one and you were doing so well now you've gone down in my estimation oh i have haven't i sandy splashed my face with pool water and i welcomed it with delight yes yes that's all i need right now is more water we soon grow bored of picking at each other and as minutes turned into hours panic began to really set in sandy began to shiver and i saw how wrinkled her fingers became i held her close and told her that everything was going to be all right when did you say your parents would be back i asked her not until monday she said and that filled me with dread if the only people that could save us were sandy's parents we'd probably be dead by the time they got home i fell in love with sandy that night and i knew i wanted to spend the rest of my life with her but i didn't think the rest of my life was going to be that short the night deepened and we ran out of things to keep us occupied we were both getting tired and sleepy too we took turns gently slapping each other's cheeks when the other dozed off luckily the steps in the shallow end of the pool had enough space for us to lean our backs on so we didn't have to tread water the whole time we tried floating on our backs to see if we could fall asleep that way but since it was fresh water and we had no flotation devices with us it didn't work in the slightest our hands and feet soon began to resemble very large very pale prunes and at first it was fine but the longer we stayed the more painful it got the irony of having a waterproof phone but not having it when i took a dip dawned on me if only i had enough sense or confidence to have asked for her number or a selfie before we got locked in it was one of those moments when having your phone with you at all times really would have paid off i took sandy's hand in mind and told her again that everything was gonna be fine and then and then i felt my eyelids grow heavy we must have fallen asleep because when i woke up it was bright out and i could hear someone's voice from above us layla was panicking open up open up hurry up you stupid piece of crap she kept saying and then to herself she muttered in horror oh my god is she dead are they dead sandy sandy my voice was hoarse and when i answered layla back it sounded more like a croak when i said layla layla we're alive i i think just this isn't heaven yet you stupid prick answered layla through the slowly moving pool cover is sandy okay i could feel the pool's pebbles had imprinted themselves on my back where i leaned into the wall for support i shook sandy awake and the moment she fluttered her eyes open she gasped for air and yelled help help us we're trapped in here i know i know sans i'm here replied layla from above us this darn thing opens up so slow when the pool cover eventually opened up enough i pushed sandy upwards and layla dragged to the rest of the way neither of us really had much strength left in us and so after layla's rescue we just lay there on the grass by the pools and soaked up the warmth of the summer sun layla then slapped me across the face why did you get yourselves trapped in there for she demanded i didn't know how to answer it wasn't like we intended that to happen all i could say was it was the dog i i think i was so out of it i wasn't even sure if i was still speaking the same language as layla she just fixed me a disapproving look and i passed out again i heard sandy got an earful from her parents not just for almost drowning to death but also for throwing a party when they were away my parents were just as hard on me but at least the whole ordeal resulted in our parents becoming friends after things settled down we did end up dating sandy and i i mean i guess it's true when people go through something traumatic together it bonds them and i'm happy to tell you that sandy and i just celebrated our third year anniversary last week her parents don't hate me as much anymore
