I think I may have sheared a sheep

a breed so perfect so elegant and so intelligent that people decided to breed them with well everything this is the terrific tantu and he's a two-year-old standard poodle he is also one of my favorite clients we are bathing this very dirty boy today in our dirty dog shampoo stay tuned for his dramatic transformation tantu has an extremely dense coat so his groom takes up to three hours to complete it takes me 30 minutes just to bathe him oh man i will admit i never really appreciated the standard poodle until i became a pet groomer to me they were foofy girly dogs and something i would never want to own but what most people don't realize is that a poodle doesn't have to look like a poodle as you saw from his first clip they can look just like teddy bears almost all the poodles that i have ever worked on have been extremely well behaved dogs they come in three sizes the standard the miniature and the toy the poodle is the national dog of france but despite that they actually originated as a duck hunter in germany they are a retrieving water dog which means of course they love the water and their dense curly coat was designed as a protection against the elements an interesting thing about the original poodle cut was that their puffs on their body such as on their joints their chest and their head were actually done to protect their vital areas from the cold but make them fast in water they have hair instead of fur which means that they are a low allergen and low shedding dog they are fantastic family dogs and get along great with all other animals there really isn't much to not love about the standard poodle tantu's owner does like him to have a modified poodle clip so today i took his body down in a three and three quarter and i'm shaving his face in a 15. the standard poodle has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years which is quite long for a large breed dog they do suffer from some genetic health problems that being said if you purchase your poodle from a reputable breeder that is doing all the proper genetic health testing they can greatly lessen the risk and create a healthier gene pool that is why it is so important to research your breeder before committing to a puppy to ensure the health and vitality of your dog before i work on his paws i clip his nails i clip his nails before i shave his paws because his long nails will get in the way of my clipper and i don't want to doll out my blade today i am giving him clean poodle feet on my 40 setting i'll admit this is one of my least favorite things to do on a dog mostly because a lot of them are ticklish and pull their legs back which can make it difficult for me to shave them however tantu is a complete angel so i don't mind shaving his paws today just for fun i am giving tonto some little leg warmers after using my straight shears to get the shape that i want i use a combination of my chunkers and my thinners to blend them in but i don't want to blend them completely because i want to be able to see them i give the top of his head a little shaping using my curved shears and the perfect tantu is all finished he lost an incredible amount of hair stay tuned to the end to see his before and after and to view our pet of the day if you'd like your pet featured on her channel head over to girlwiththedogs.com and purchase a bandana take a photo of your pet wearing it and send it to girl with the dogs outlook.com for a chance to be featured thank you so much for watching i hope you enjoyed the terrific taunto today for our pet of the day we have the sweet eight-month-old violet marie thank you so much for sending me your photos and being a fan
