these are the new meta smart glasses that are currently going viral on Tik Tok for their hands-free video their built-in voice assistant and their speakers so I had to go buy a pair to see if they are worth it the metag glasses have five microphones two speakers and one 12 megapixel camera there's so much technology in here and we're going to see how that unfolds in real world environments throughout the day while they're not perfect there are definitely certain things I would love to see them improve they truly make me feel like a kid again like trying out new technology like this wearing something on my face and immediately getting POV video or asking the voice assistant what time it is or what the temperature is out or listening to my playlist as I'm walking on the street and having no one else around me hear it feels like such an exciting technological Revolution and a huge improvement over what the initial Facebook glasses were like like generation number one so the version that I'm reviewing is the headliner version they also come in a wafer version and those start at around $2.99 these were around like 350 after taxes which sounds like a lot but actually Ray band are priced pretty similarly to that so the tech is not not really increasing the price so much of these and they look very similar to another pair of Rayband glasses except that the frame is a little bit thicker so I think the most obvious place to start and testing these is the video quality to show you how that works and to set a barometer of the battery life cuz that also feels super important it's currently 1206 we've already been shooting a lot of video today and the glasses are at 55% so just as I was getting incredibly pumped about these glasses they sto pairing to the phone feel like shoot days never go exactly as planned luckily we're right by a Rayband store so I'm going to quickly go in and just see what's going on so we can get them fixed and continue the video and also if this ends up happening to you if you buy them hopefully we'll be able to tell you the solution and fix to it they were like awesome for an hour and now they stopped working and pairing with the phone all right I just heard a sound you may have fixed them you'll be my hero if you just fix these we're back in business they're working again so we hard reset it so this happens to you you press the capture button five times to put it back into pair mode and then you restart the process again hopefully it won't happen but if it does that was the solution we're now going to be on our way to Brooklyn one of the cool things is just like your eyes and a smartphone camera these have really good dynamic range that auto adjust so you can go from an inside environment to an outdoor environment and the exposure stays pretty consistent with like a professional camera you can do that with like auto mode but most of the time you manually adjust the exposure to get it perfect but when you're on the go and you're looking for like POV shots it's really nice to have glasses that just can deal with different Expos another thing to note on the video recording front is that it shoots in 1080P but the aspect ratio of it is more vertical because I think that Facebook and meta are assuming that people are going to use this for like POV real shots you can also live stream directly from these glasses to Instagram but for someone that primarily makes like longer form video I would really like the option to have the aspect ratio be more horizontal in the past with like the Snapchat spectacles it was a really interesting thing where it shot both vertically and horizontally and it would crop in on the frame depending on what you wanted that would be cool to see here and another thing that would be nice is if there was like an ability to have any sense of what the framing looks like because it's really hard to know what Center frame is with these glasses like if this is where the camera is if I put my hand right here I feel like that would be Center frame but it's not and the hack to get around this is by opening up the app and going to live stream and then that can give you a preview of what they're seeing but otherwise you just have to kind of cross your fingers and hope that the framing looks good also through trial and error I've realized that my hair often can get in the frame and cover the camera so when I'm shooting something I always have to make sure that that field of vision is completely clear but I've been seeing a lot of criticism online that people feel like this is not a significant enough indicator to people around you that you're recording video like it should be red it should be flashing because people can maybe use this for not great ways and record when the public doesn't want them to that said on the phone you obviously can see when someone's recording video like I'm recording right now but it feels a lot more obvious when someone has their hands held out they're recording versus just wearing a pair of glasses we wouldn't necessarily expect them to be other things that I think are worth knowing with the glasses it has a 60-second record limit which is increased from last year um and you can also take photos so the long press down is for video and then the click is to take a photo you can also change that in the settings if you want a long press to be for photos but I feel like this just makes more sense so for this clip we don't have audio and the glasses actually caught the reason why the microphone was not plugged in things uh but in this clip I'm saying how beautiful and sunny it is out and that we're headed to a park in Brooklyn to test out the glasses playing soccer because I feel like a sport is a perfect use case where you want to be able to film it but you need your hands and you're on the go so stabilization is helpful can I ask you a crazy question we're shooting like a video on these for YouTube is there any way I can take one shot with the soccer ball are you sure thank you so much yeah there's like a camera here you more let me try it too you want to try it okay yeah you definitely be better all right let me take a shot and then I'll hand them to you with these shoes yeah do you think that's is this a bad idea not okay all right here you go show them it's done yeah let go on you the camera's right here so the camera is on yep you're good n I'm aiming for the corner right there ah so good to meet you thank you again I appreciate you oh my God we're leaving the park right now that was just so much fun I also grew up playing soccer basketball softball and Lacrosse but then I really like full committed to basketball so I haven't played in so long but I actually going to now get back to it because of this interaction and how fun it is to be out and about playing a [Music] sport is possible to get a table for two sure thank you so much so the way to get the footage off the glasses is by downloading an app called metav view um and then once you open up the application the glasses connect via Wi-Fi and then the footage Imports here so I haven't seen any of the footage that we just took and I'm about to right now so once you're in the application it will show you preview of all your footage you can click on it and then watch it live here quickly upload it as a Instagram story which is awesome like that interface Works seamlessly um or you can also save it to your camera roll and it will show you a live action of the amount has left to import the battery life of the actual headphones what they're called and the case and they're charging really really quickly so it's 241 at 233 they were around 10% battery life so that's fast and I think the fact that it uses the metav view app to access the footage is a pro and con there are a lot of people that don't trust Facebook and meta rightfully so they have not had a great track record with privacy and so the idea of putting a camera and microphone on your face at all times is definitely a downside and something to consider and also the fact that you have to create a meta account to use them is another lockin that I don't love but if you're willing to buy into those two things then the actual interface works really well um another thing that I think would be cool is if they added in the ability to have a live viewfinder here right now the work around would be to go live on Instagram but not actually start the live stream that way you can see a indicator of what the glasses are picking up but it would be cool if it was just built into the ecosystem here another thing that is built into the glasses is the hey meta support so it has a built-in voice assistant which is really cool so when you throw on the glasses and then I can say hey meta what time is it it's 6:47 in the evening Zach you couldn't hear that right okay another note from future Jac lineer because these just keep getting updated in real time to be better there's now a new feature in beta that Marquez just showed that's like a multimodel AI hey meta look and tell me what you see I see a person wearing a black hoodie and Jean standing in front of a large window with a camera held up to their eye so basically it's using the camera and the AI language model in conjunction with each other to elevate these Beyond just like a POV lens and I think for accessibility that could be huge insane so to me it's very loud it sounds like a person talking to me but with your surroundings you can hear it and it's not using bone conduction and there's obviously nothing in your ear but it still sounds great and I can also play music like right now I could be listening to Taylor Swift which let's do that Beed and I'm going to put it on maximum volume can you hear it okay so to Zach he's saying it sounds like at max volume he can hear in a little bit like I have earbuds in that was like really loud for me it sounded like a concert in my ears this is at like half volume which is what I would actually listen it these glasses are really making me feel like a little kid again and I feel like there's a huge Renaissance in the last year or two in wearable technology progressing rapidly whether it be like a ring that tracks your sleep or a watch that tracks your Fitness and workouts or glasses that go in your face and give you an assistant and a camera there's so much to be excited about in technology and I'm just so grateful that part of my job is testing it and sharing it with you and building this community a fuel that love to thank you so much for watching this one hope you enjoyed it if you want to hang out in another day in the life you can click right here or watch the office tour of Spotify right here one of my favorite videos that we made all year and I'll see you in one of these two videos we can keep hanging out thank you bye
