- (laptop slides) - Wow (laptop thunks) - Holy.
- That's a thunk. - The big reveal is, oh my God, ah. Look at this. - This is Austin Evans. My favorite tech YouTuber who also happens to share the same birthday as me. To celebrate our birthdays,
I decided to build him the greatest custom
keyboard he's ever seen and it all started with a quick email. (Betty typing) Well, that was fast. He replied instantly and what he wanted for his keyboard is weird. So he wants a keyboard that's
tenkeyless, tactile, yellow? I don't know any keyboards
that are yellow and look good. I need to look for some parts
and order something quick, because time is of the essence. They have this. What do
you think about E-yellow? It's sort of ugly. Next. Everything's sold out all the time. There is literally nothing. So I'm thinking we take this keyboard here and we make it yellow with our own hands. Got to add it to cart. Boop. But we need switches and keycaps. (Betty clicking) I honestly have no idea how any
of this stuff will turn out, but I got more than I need. So, I'll make it work. (upbeat music) (sticker peeling) I have to figure out how
to make this thing yellow, so I've got some yellow spray paint and the test keyboard here. (spray painting keyboard) Sort of ugly. Next, I'm going to paint it. Oh, I accidentally bought pouring paint. There's a few problems with
this, our spray paint is ugly, my painting skills are ugly, what now? That's when we came up
with the genius idea to make it yellow. So we sent it off. Sayonara, keyboard. - [Jake] While we wait for
the cerakoting to be done, I thought it'd be fun if
we did a little trivia. What's your favorite video from Austin? - Mystery tech videos, where
he puts on Pokemon shirts. - [Jake] Does that mean I
get a mystery tech budget for this video. - A hundred dollars. That's
all you get. That's it. We don't have budget for all that. - [Jake] You do realize it's going to be the jankiest episode
of mystery tech ever, right? - We all start somewhere. Finally returned and I'm going to unbox it and I hope it looks freakin'
amazingly yellow for Austin. (unzips keyboard) (bubble wrap crinkling) Whoa. This is Corvette yellow and I would say they did a pretty good job and it's got speckles for some
additional flare, some oomph. (sticker peeling) Oh, that's nice. He better like it. Now it's time for my
favorite part, building it. I hope Austin loves it. - This thing is chunk-tastic. Like there's some serious weight in here. Did you get me gold bricks? (fast-paced inspirational music) - The switches have arrived.
I have three options. I've got them here and
we're going to test them and find out which one
is the most tactile. For Austin. We've got Kiwis, Boba
U4Ts, and Glorious Pandas. This is a blind test. (keys tapping) Honestly, they all sound the same to me but we're going with the Boba U4Ts because they sound the best
and they're also yellow and that matches. Yeah. (fast-paced music continues) - [Jake] Betty. - What? - [Jake] Look what showed up in the mail? It's jank mystery tech. - Woo, jank. Wait, why is it jank? All right, first piece
of jank mystery tech is a moon light. The moon represents my heart. Okay, a ball of cheese with no holes. Wait, wait, wait, It's
supposed to light up. Can you even see it? It
changes colors, okay watch, oh Next
- Close your eyes. is this. A mobile (Betty laughs)
your portable home cinema. Okay. - [Jake] What the heck? It looks like I'm blind.
Oh, that's not bad. It's such a bad viewing angle. It's got kickstands,
there we go. Like I'm old. Are you trying to tell me I'm old? I rate this one, I'm going
to give it a six out of 10. The moon light is a three out of 10. The final piece is a sleep mask. I think it plays music
but let me put it on. Okay. Do I look good? - You look so good.
(Betty laughs) - It's dark though. I'm going to play some
music, the audio is terrible. The ears are all in the wrong place. I'll give this one a five out of 10. That concludes mystery
tech or jank mystery tech, back to the build. (inspirational music) All that's left are the keycaps. This build is so close to being done, we've just got a few
more things to try out. The first keycap set was just too bright. So I took it off and tried
one of my backup sets (inspirational music continues) and the yellow on yellow
was just sickening. The combination of white on black and black on white was just perfect and I knew it was the one. Just look at how beautiful it turned out. Finally, a keyboard fit for Austin Evans. Super nervous to send it
out but I hope he likes it. Well, here goes nothing. (keyboard slides) - Okay, this looks wow. (keyboard thunks) Holy.
- That's a thunk. - I can't weigh this on camera. This thing is chunk-tastic,
like there's some serious weight in here. Did you get me gold bricks? - [Ken] No, this was something
that you actually know about, a friend of ours sent this. - Oh, is this the keyboard? - [Ken] It is the keyboard. - Okay, all right, all right,
there's a long story here. I'm going to open it up
and I'll tell the story. I'm very excited. I'm very
excited. Are y'all ready? (unzips keyboard) And the reveal? I think, I know that there
is a keyboard in here. What I don't know is literally
anything else besides that. Ready, and okay that's
slightly less dramatic than I thought it was going to be. (Austin laughs) Hello, Austin. This keyboard has been extremely fun and challenging to build. Which has been cera-,
cera-, cera-, cerakotted, kerakaded? Crocodile?
- Curated? - C, E, R, A, K, O, T, E,
D, Ken, what does that mean? - [Ken] Wait, what? - Cerakoted, cerakoted, I'm not
- Cera-, cerakoted, yeah cera- - What is that?
- Cerako- - How do you cerakote something?
What is cerakoting mean? Ceramic coatings?
- Wait, oh, wait it's like, oh, so you could do like
- Oh my god - Like, you know, it's like a CS go gun
- What. Wait, wait, wait, should
I stop reading this, I feel like I'm getting spoiled, I think I should just open it and get my - [Ken] That's going to be a sick build. - Oh my goodness. This thing weighs
legitimately about as much as every keyboard I've
ever touched combined. Holy. Oh, I can start,
I'm starting to see it. I'm starting to see it. Oh my god. Okay, okay,
hold up. Shh, shh, shh - [Ken] Calm down, calm down
Austin, calm down, calm down. - All right. The big
reveal is, after one more- Oh my God. Ah, look at this. Look at this. - [Ken] Oh. - Oh my God. Oh. I cannot tell you how
chunk-tastic this keyboard is. I mean, look how fast it drops, like, is that a good
measurement of weight? Cause this thing- - Yeah.
- Is that solid brass? No wonder it's so heavy. - [Ken] What's heavier,
the keyboard or your son? - I think the keyboards heavier (Austin laughs)
- Actually? - Dude, feel this thing.
Feel how heavy this is. - Oh my God. (Austin laughs) I thought my keyboard was heavier. This, I can't believe. Oh my God. You gotta do the sound test properly. - Of course I can't do it on
a wooden surface. How could I? All right, a properly damp surface. Let me just sort of prepare
my fingers for oral bliss. - [Ken] What? - [Computer Voice] Oral. - [Off-Camera Man] No,
neither one of those words. (keyboard typing) - I'm a changed man. I can't go back. - Oh my god, that's solid. - It feels so, it feels like
you're typing on Fort Knox. One of the things that I
really love about mystery tech, but sometimes you get something like this and it completely changes your perspective on what you think the gold standard is. I now have to carry the
keyboard with me for all time, but like actually this is
so heavy I need to put it on my shoulder to properly
support the weight because like, it's like a walking around
with a sack of potatoes, this keyboards so heavy. - Check out Austin's video
right here if it's out and check out this video where we surprised someone
else with a custom keyboard.
