what's up everyone ross here from rv tips and travels a big hello and welcome to everybody who is visiting the channel for the first time and a big thank you for all you guys who have been here before okay today we're going to talk about your rv roof so this modification will virtually eliminate your maintenance to your roof i've wanted to cover this modification for about two years now and upon my last inspection of my roof i decided it's probably time to do that this modification does eliminate the need to have to reseal your roof but it does not eliminate the need to clean your roof and occasionally inspect your roof after we get done with the modification i'll tell you guys what i still do even after doing this modification stick around so before we get up on the roof let's talk about the materials that's needed for this modification the staple of this modification is eternal bond tape if you are unfamiliar with the tournament tape it is basically the greatest roof sealing tape ever made it is super sticky and durable it will last longer than lap sealant will and it can be easily repaired if it does get damaged so i'm going to be using a 50 foot long roll that's two inches wide for the sides of my roof and i'm going to be using a six inch wide 50 foot roll for everything else i'll put links to these products down below in the video description if you want to go ahead and check those out the day i decide to film is the day that we get 60 mile an hour winds [Music] now a tournament makes a primer for their tape and i've done some research on it it's supposed to add adhesion on rough dirty corroded surfaces but i've used the tape for years now and i've never had a problem with it sticking so i'm deciding to not go ahead and use the primer for this application but i will put a link to that down below also if you guys want to check it out so with the two rolls of tape that i mentioned before i was able to do my entire rv and everything cost me about 130 dollars i did end up using a four inch piece of tape on the back of the rv because i had it left over in my toolbox and it fit perfectly where i needed it to but you can always take that six inch roll and cut sections out of it if you need to as far as time frame goes guys this will take you a good portion of an afternoon to complete so the very first thing you should be doing is cleaning the area where you're putting this eterna bond tape which is around all of the sealant and a couple inches onto the membrane around the sealant as well i just used some dish soap and some water and a medium bristle brush to clean all those areas up it's also important that you dry those areas off or let them dry in the sun before you start applying the tape the area you clean depending on the age of your rig you may not get it completely white it doesn't need to be spotless you just need to get any loose dirt or debris off of that area so you have something very solid for this tape to stick to so i started in the rear of my roof and i covered the lap sealant on the back of the roof over to the corner edge the reason i did this i wanted to start in the back of the rv so that anything that i would overlap would be from the front and you wouldn't have an edge facing the wind when you were driving now it probably doesn't matter because this tape is super sticky but that's just what i was thinking when i started from the back and i thought that was a good idea i found it easiest to cut the length that i needed to fit the entire width of the rv lay it down on the roof and peel the backing off as i went i ended the tape within two inches of the sides of each of the rv so that my side pieces when applied would overlap the back now onto the sides this is where i use my two inch roll i am laying tape from the roof membrane down two inches to the middle of this black strip that i'm showing you right here underneath this piece is where the factory membrane attaches to your sidewalls now guys the eterna bond tape that we put on the sides of the rv are visible from the ground so take your time with this and get it nice and flat i found the sides easiest to do by keeping the tape on the roll and just unwinding it as you go but still pulling the backing off as you go down the front of the rv onto the front cap it's not much different than the rear front caps are usually curved so you may get a couple wrinkles in your tape but don't worry this stuff is very very malleable so all you have to do is press down with your finger and even though it looks like it's still creased the top the adhesive part of the tape will push down and form to the surface of your roof guys this is not a beauty contest for me anyway i don't care what the top of my roof looks like as long as it's sealed now we are done with all the edges we can move to the middle of the roof where all the skylights vents antennas or anything else that you may have on the roof that has sealant around it keeping with my idea of starting from the back and moving forward i'm going to apply the tape around the back of everything first then up the sides towards the front and then the front piece and remember press down as you go with your thumb you could use a little roller as well too you can use the edge the handle part of the scissor but really really press this tape down as you go i did choose to remove my vent covers and put the turnabon tape around the lap sealant underneath there as well and after a couple hours your entire roof is done all your lap sealant is covered and this eternal bond tape depending on who you talk to could last five years ten years or the lifetime of the rv it's really really nice stuff now before i sign off i just want to mention it's still a good idea to inspect your roof for damage and you still need to be cleaning your roof but if you notice any cuts from tree branches or things like that as you're traveling you can just use some eternal bond tape to cover that patch up i personally use murphy's oil soap diluted in water to wash my roof and i use an extendable soft bristle brush to clean my roof i'll put a link to that in the product description below as well so if you guys enjoyed this video please do us a favor hit that like button thanks for stopping by guys until next time we'll see you soon [Music] you
