welcome back to life sweet journey today we are teaming up with flex deal to answer the question can you seal your rv roof with flex seal liquid hi everybody this is life sweet journey coming at you today with another diy and today we will be resealing our rv roof our unit is a 2011. so it's about 11 years old and it's just we had a small little leak uh the other night it only happened when it was like super downpouring so you know so it's just time to give it a re-seal feel good when storms come through and um you know just give us a little peace in mind that we're not going to have any leaks in the future to reseal our rv today i will be using a flex seal the liquid rubber sealant coating i've used flex seal in the past for other projects and i feel like it's a very nice product i've been happy with it i actually fixed my black tank with the black black liquid seal you know i had a crack in it painted that on it sealed it right up so i don't know why this wouldn't work as well so i'm up on top of our rv now as you can see and the first thing we want to do is clean it so i'm going to try to clean this thing and seal it all today so i'm going to clean it off with my brush here clean all the dirt off and then let it dry and then i'm gonna paint it with the with the flex seal and i'll show you how that goes just wanted to show you a little uh before and after here's a look here's what it looks like before i go ahead and do my wash it's pretty dirty um so hopefully we can get a lot of that up so being up here on the roof and giving it a bath you know these found this little spot right here you know could be close to leaking you can see the rubber i don't think it is yet it feels very smooth but that's just a rubberized roof this is one reason why we'll put some flex seal down and then over here i found a couple other spots seen in my shadow but right here's a little ding these might be some of the reasons why we have um why we had that little leak in the roof here and then under here you know flex seal smooth it out and give it a nice fresh coat and seal it if there are any leaks so that's one of the reasons why we're kind of doing this today okay i said i'd give you an after the cleaning this is what it looks like afterwards looks pretty good it's not perfect by any means but it will look good once i get the paint on there um the sealant so now what i'm going to do is start sailing i'm going to do all the slides first do the slides i have three slides one over there two and once i do that to do the sides i'm going to start from the front and then work my way back to the uh ladder there and um and then hopefully i'll be done first i'm going to do all the cut in so i'll show you so i got my flex seal out i got it stirred up i got this little stake here there is a stir stick just stirred it up and i'm going to start cutting in i pushed my rubber up under here so i can get as close to the back as possible i'm going to paint probably all the way down to here and i'll all the way up to the wall and it should be a nice rubber seal and get rid of some of these bad spots i got going on and give me a nice watertight seal again like babe said we started with the slide outs first we trimmed the slides and then we used a roller to finish off the rest of the slide so i've started i've cut in you know as far as i can reach on this side and i've done along the edge here over that way and for this close edges i've got a skinnier brush like this and for the bigger parts i got a fatter brush a four inch brush versus a two inch brush it's working pretty well um the brush if you have cheap brushes paint brushes the bristles come out really easy so i got some brushes from walmart probably i want to spend some money and get a little more fancier brushes i might recommend that but i'm going to go with this it's just a roof i think it won't matter in the end so all right that's that's the start of it the wife finally doing something took her forever to get her out here but gotta cut in all the slides cut in but doing the top now then i'll roll it's different because it's like sticky it's not like paint it's harder to swipe let's rub our eyes so i got it all cut in and started rolling it you can see it goes on very thick and it doesn't spread like regular paint so you have to put a lot of paint on your a lot of the flex seal on your brush on your roller into a tiny section then do that again it's been it's kind of challenging but we'll get there after we finish the slide out we started on the main portion of the roof we did take off the old flex tape that had been covering the bigger holes this piece of tape had actually been on the roof for two years it held the hole perfectly but flex seal recommended removing the old tape and we used their adhesive remover to do that and it worked great so babe went over this we're going to actually go over it again because this is where the big hole was so i'll come back around and give it another coat while i am edging the camper i've done the edging on here and we did not get a replacement part for the lid yet but we are going gonna go ahead and try to paint over it even though the flex liquid isn't really gonna bond well with the tape that's already on here but we obviously cannot take the tape off because there's a big old hole and the paint won't help that so we're going to just paint over it and we'll let you know how it goes it actually looks like it worked pretty well i just made sure that i was extra thick over where the seams of the tape overlapped or where they were touching the cover and we will report back on how it holds up when we do a follow-up with the exception of the skylight we have decided to paint pretty much everything on the roof one because that way it looks white like the rest of the roof will and then two it provides an extra layer of protection because some of the stuff on the roof is just getting worn out to where if you touch it you risk kind of poking your finger through it you can see where it's worn out and now the new paint it'll be all nice and sealed we'll see how it all holds up but we're loving the added layer of protection i will link all products used below all right just a little update um my wife went to get more paint so that'd be the third can we've done i have a 34 foot fifth wheel it's uh i think three cans is enough um probably won't use the all the last can maybe two and a half cans but i just want to show you i'm almost done with this side i'll show you the show it to you actually she just pulled up with more paint about halfway done looks pretty good got a bug down there already unfortunately but got this much that much more to go it's probably two and a half cans maybe three um got one more can coming it did end up taking us almost the three full gallon cans to refinish our 34 foot fifth wheel roof but we are really happy with it it's been over a month now and we also really like that it's so much easier to clean because it just wipes right away whereas before the roof was almost porous and would hold that dirt we've been through multiple rainstorms no leaks and it's nice because the rain almost helps wash the dirt away all right almost to the very end about to climb off this thing do this tiny little spot almost done that's all she wrote okay so just wanted to give you an update this is the next morning just want to check out the product you can see the water my ac it's just the water just running down really nice and beating up like you want um first glance i'm liking it a lot you see it's really thick see here see how thick it is solid it's dry so it's been over 24 hours since we painted it it looks great i think i'm really happy with it but just take you to the front here what we decided to do we actually painted our whole covers here we had cracks in them so just gave them made them stronger reinforced them but you can see looks very good it's nice and thick solid i'm very happy with it i think if it holds up the test of time uh flex seal probably something you want to use to to seal your rv roof so we'll we'll do a follow-up video in about a year or six months to show you what it looks like all right over now light sweet journey all right so this is the one month check-in we are in beautiful maine but we have been through quite a lot of rainstorms in the past month and we have had no leaks you can see everything's still nice and shiny got some spots that could use a bit of a cleaning already but they'll just wipe right off which is super nice and even up here where we were worried it might bubble up off of where we painted over the tape still holding nice and strong no issues so far we would definitely recommend using flex seal to reseal your roof if you enjoyed this video we would love it if you would give it a big thumbs up and click subscribe enjoy the journey
