yesterday i took my wr250r out on the dirt a local guy near me was working on a home track and we had about 10 people out to ride the owner happened to have a wr250f which he was kind enough to let me ride it was really neat for me getting to compare his 250f to my 250r and so i figured i'd make a video on the the differences from a rider's perspective let me start off by saying that the wr-250f and 250r they're completely different motorcycles and they're not designed on the same platform at all the chassis is different the motor the suspension everything is different between these two bikes the the 250f does not come street legal but this guy had done a conversion kit so from tusk he bought the kit and his was a hundred percent street legal that's right the wr 250 f can be street legal whereas the wr250r comes from the factory that way and that really does say a lot about how these bikes handle and what their intended use is the 250r feels like a dirt bike that's been adapted to work on the street whereas the 250f is a lot more aggressive and less comfortable the first thing i noticed when i hopped on the 250f was the engine it is extremely responsive and snappy whereas the wr250r has a decent amount of power you really have to work to get into the power band you can't just crack the throttle and expect power on the 250f you definitely can you can crack the throttle at any rpm and it's just ready to take off the wr250r you know it has some power but you really have to wind it up let it really get into into the power band so the motor on the 250f is awesome but it is snappy and you might not want that depending on who you are for example coming out of corners a few times on the 250f it caught me off guard and i would wheelie out of them i wasn't used to the traction and the immediate response that i could get out of the 250f now obviously this is rider fault but things like this do happen a lot on bikes that are really powerful and depending on who you are you might not want that i love that on my wr250r i can just throw it wide open and not really worry i know exactly what to expect and it's not going to rip my hands off but it'll still put a smile on my face the suspension is quite different too the wr250r is notorious for having a very springy back end and that is definitely the case on this track there was one bump that especially threw you over the bars it's this little kicker and on the 250r i really had to anticipate that because it would try to throw me off the bike whereas the 250f every time i went over that it was just planted so the 250f was definitely better suspended it just feels like higher quality suspension the spring rates didn't feel all that different to me but the valving and response was definitely a lot better on the 250f the 250f feels like a high strung motocross bike it's got a thin seat it's very lightweight and nimble when i try to ride my wr250r in deep sand and things like that it really sinks in and it's such a heavy bike that it just wears you out whereas the 250f is so much lighter and nimble that it's just agile you don't have to worry about stuff like that as much and i think that that lends itself really well to more aggressive riding the wr 250r is a much better bike for people who don't want to do hard enduro because even though you could plate the 250f it's more expensive and you get a lot of power that could also potentially be a bad thing the 250r has a very predictable very manageable power band but it can still go highway speeds and it'll be more comfortable doing that the 250f is for those riders who really want performance and it's awesome that you can plate it the 250f would be great for somebody who wants to ride really rough trails and has maybe a short commute to those trails but you're not going to go do a long road trip like you would with the 250r on the f model hopefully that makes sense these are just my thoughts after writing it and again i'm no expert so take it with a grain of salt this is just what i think and who am i to say i'm just some dummy on youtube i hope you found this informative thanks for watching and i'll see you next time [Music] you
