I Paid 5 Designers To Design THE SAME Logo... 🧐 (Interesting Results)

i paid five designers to design a logo from the same brief but today it's a bit different because we've got a completely crazy and futuristic brief happening hi guys i'm will patterson and if you don't know we do videos like this where we pay subscribers who are designers all the way from like an amateur designer to professional designers we pay you to design a logo from one brief to see the differences between these designs also to promote you guys but everyone loves to see them see what the price is worth for three hours of your time so the rules that i have for this type of video are these you've got three hours to design the logo you cannot spend any more time than three hours because we can only afford to pay you for three hours of your time so the pricing is in respect to the time so three hours of this person's time and they'll all be different and in case you're asking we don't ask for any revisions i have not seen the work i react to it as soon as it's on the screen okay so the brief is this it is for a company called solar drop this is what we send to all the designers we want you to design a logo for the new company solar drop solar drop is a british interstellar technology company with a focus on e-commerce and artificial super intelligence we sell products on our app to mars inhabitants and ship them from earth we deliver everything from chocolate to kitchen appliances to seeds and computers our deliveries take place once a month on an automated flight with zero emissions we hope to increase this as the colony grows and we also have plans to build a distribution center on fobus within the next two years if you don't know what phobias is it's one of the moons that orbits mars we have no brand identity as of yet but it must be relevant to inspire space colonization and show we are a reliable company for those on martian territory it's a bit of a strange one today this video is brought to you by my newest skillshare original class which is live now stick around to learn more about that and how you can watch for free so without further ado let's go ahead and look at the first designer okay so melvin soto you were 100 and you spent three hours on this logo let's see what you did okay so here's a pdf presentation so solar drop there's the logo so i'm not going to give my first impressions of yx i want to see i just want to scan through i like scanning through stuff just to see if anything drops out first impressions is the color you've used this orange which is pretty it's pretty nice but for mars i would always choose a darker crimson because the reason why it's called the red planet is because when we look at it from earth it looks red i know you've chosen the most exact color which is this sort of like deeper orange i prefer it to be crimson though i like the blue i'm not going to judge it too hard as of yet because i want to see what he's done to design the logo first the circles symbolize the planets and the small dots symbolize the package that travels from one planet to the other ah okay that's a cool concept so dude i really love the concept of like you showing like the planet and the package which is the simplistic idea you know it's kind of like an amazon for mars basically but for the logo my first impressions is that it's quite busy for a futuristic company we're looking for futuristic design and i can see that through the typography you've tried to do that with like you know the condensed type and the a you've got like a bit missing in the a which shows a lot of like your futuristic aspects the p again i don't understand i think that's to do with like a track so moving from point a to point b but these dots all they do is they sort of add more to the design now there's two ways that i would go around this if i was you and just experimenting with this concept the first way is instead of adding negative space you would take it away and then vice versa so for instance on the red o so the solar part the circle or the o there would be a full circle with that dot punched out and i would do the same for drop but maybe reverse that you've tried to do that in drop but you've added a red circle which doesn't make sense and the problem is is that the balance isn't there and i understand the concept but i think you've tried too hard in creating that concept to work because the o in drop is super heavy so when it's super heavy it kind of doesn't look right when it's all together this is better because you haven't done that here and you've got the icon there is there a way though i'm always thinking is there a way to get rid of one of those circles you don't need two than the icon that might be maybe just been overly simplified but again i will say the actual app icon of just the icons you know the circles they do work well but there is a lot more simplification that can be done and i think for three hours of time you've done an excellent job it had been so interesting to see what your process would have been like after spending i don't know six to 12 hours on this to see how much you could do i love the boxes the mock-ups really cool actually those boxes are really nice it makes it seem a lot more forgiving like the logo and i don't think the icon's bad at all i think the typography is really good i think it is cliche the type but that's not a bad thing for something that like you know if we look at a company like tesla or spacex anything that's got elon musk in it you can tell that it's like a space company or a tech company because they've intentionally gone super futuristic in the design to inspire to inspire customers to show that they're all about the future they're about space or they're all about electricity they're very tied to that so what i like about the type is although it's cliche you've got elements of futurism in there which is cool i like the rocket that is pretty pretty neat imagine having that on a rocket one of my dreams is to design something that goes on a rocket so you've given us some other files here so you've got the png very nice the alternative logo yep cool and this is like your mood board with the drafts and this is your ai file yeah so you've got a move bot of loads of different logos and i see what you've done here maybe what you could do differently next time is instead of choosing logos for the mood board or like the inspiration board choose objects of space like mars like uh satellites the dragon capsule objects that you would find in space like orbiting lines stars things like that because the problem is when you have loads of logos and you take inspiration from them you can try and get too much in there so melvin for a hundred dollars and three hours of your time you've done a good job i think the execution could be a bit different but i mean that's three hours of your time excellent work you've given me a full presentation i completely understand the process that you've gone through well done okay so mr eugene you were 150 let's see what you did you've got a presentation for us let's have a look okay so first impressions i really like the logo again you can see the resemblance of the last one from melvin with the typography this one is super futuristic which is what i was looking for i wanted the brand to look like it was for the future as in to give us an idea of it and you can see that through the shapes of the letter forms here with the a and the l very square geometric anything that circle is kind of like a square that's just been rounded off and with the d for drop i really like that idea really cool shows a big packaging i mean there's a few things in there that i would change personally but let's have a look through all the way through okay so here's the black and white it works superb on black really nice and white it's unique enough as oh goodness me these are really cool so the mock-ups on here i love the color scheme and i love the way that you've presented the mock-ups and they really sold me on your design they look old like vintage with these sort of letters but you've got the futuristic and modern vibe this one i'm not too fussed about because it looks really strange uh doesn't look i understand why you've put it in there but yeah oh that is cool so you've got a face mask with solo drop with the color and everything i love the actual color that you use it's a nice blue so it's not red which is what i was looking for i did not want a red logo if you were to choose a red one i would understand because it's more cliche but you've chosen a connection with the color blue and it'll be interesting to know why actually i mean it's the color that i would have chosen but i haven't thought so much about it you've sold me on the brand through the id cards which is so the drop ids for the people who are delivering stuff you've even got a woman in a spaceship suit or a spacesuit with a helmet on with solar branded on it which is super nice kind of creepy though but yeah i like it you've even like all these mock-ups i know i'm supposed to be critiquing the bra like the logo for the brand but i can't like explain how important it is to have markups if you show this to a client they're going to be wowed not by the logo but by the presentation around it so for instance with the spacex or the nasa center here so the drop on there on one of the i don't know what this is i think it is the iss you've got solar drop there again t-shirts they look really nice everything is looking really cool there's so many mock-ups you've got wow you've even got a robot how did you mock that up that looks realistic wow so i'm actually really really impressed about this one i think all you guys will be as well you've got a video let's have a look at this video so uni was and you take that d and you're going to go ahead and convert it to shapes that's got to be like the most simplistic logo design ever using circles for geometry very nice so clean you guys just started that obviously it's sped up but you can see the process here like i don't know how we got this idea three hours of your time though you've spent it very well and it's kind of similar to me it doesn't take too long to get the logo done it's just a presentation around it dude that's unreal i mean i'm not supposed to oh wow you give me all these assets as well so many assets this is great all labeled very nicely one thing i would say with the assets things how i'm trying to find something to give you constructive criticism on is when you're bringing assets in folder them so put them in appropriate folders for like you know the black png's black pdfs blue pngs blue pdfs stuff like that when you have folders in there it makes it a lot easier for the client okay so the next designer is annie like at 200 for three hours of his time and a full logo let's see how he did now this icon is cool it's nice to see an icon happening here i like it a lot and this one kind of looks like an idea that i had a while back for the skillshare class which i'll talk about soon so you got the pin location for like maps and then you've got the orbiting lines around planets which is really nice it's a really cool concept really clean and very consistent and balanced i very like like i very like that one thing i would say is the typography again it looks kind of strange with the rs in there but the icon just makes up for that so here's the orange so you've got an orange again again i would go crimson uh for mars but that's okay maybe you're thinking about other planets too which is cool jupiter saturn stuff like that for expansion again really nice mock-ups i mean if this is on mars people are living like kings on mars in the future i hope i like the idea of the pattern being available and you're showing how like you can have one part of the orbiting line of the logo and it would still look cool and still bring the brand awareness in there so you're still marking the products and you've actually animated this as well that's unreal this is unreal like the first animated logo so you created the logo you've put mockups in and you spent time animating it as well and i really like this i can imagine it on like the mass head of a website where it's just like more of an interactive logo you could even like in the future if you had more times you could probably make it interactive so when your mouse cursor was over it would like move the planets in a certain way i really like that artificial super intelligence zero emissions solar drop oh very nice very nice i would make this a bit bigger i'm not too sure what this is for but that's okay oh wow you're going old-school in the whole scaling issue there i like this i can tell you're gonna be consistent all the way throughout you're literally like me when you're designing you just you're spending a lot of time on like the base structure of the design i like this you thought about it with the shape builder tool and the pen tool making sure it's thick enough i like it yet you're zooming in and zooming out so i don't know if you guys know but when you see me zoom in and zoom out of all my logos that's me testing to see if the scalability is there you've got the kerning spot on i never even spotted that but it's spot on as well wait is it no it is spot on i like it again dude arnold this is unreal you've done a great job with the icon my only criticism for you would really be a few more markups maybe a presentation on like your ideas for the logos i know you only had three hours so i'm going to assume that you do this aside from that great job well done dude the next one is from mo bourbon for 250 dollars so mo has sent us in a pdf presentation and this is the logo really cool and i really like it you've got a lot of color in here as well let me try and guess your like concept if i can got the star in the middle which is obviously the void of space you've got earth and then mars so going from mars to earth in this massive continuous cycle very nice for three hours it's it's unreal better than what i could do in three hours of my time and that's saying a lot what i love is the depth that you've got in there it can work in black and white and i know you can make it work through the use of negative space but having the color in there is awesome as well you can see that you've gradiented so you've added shadows to the end of these orbiting lines or the trail lines which just gives it that bit more of a futuristic effect again a lot of people don't use colors and things like shadows in logos tastefully but i think that's really tastefully onto the typography the logo type i really like it so drop the the type of face at the top could be a bit more futuristic a lot of this is me testing designers to see whether they would go full on futurism or whether they would stick to something they would know and in typography it's a bit more difficult because you don't want it to look cringy or too gfx but in this case you've done a really tasteful job i like the fact that you got solar and drop in block capitals i like the fact that drop is in a heavy weight i'd prefer solar to be a bit more heavy in weight just maybe in a medium format but that's just me nitpicking again here's the black and white versions you can see here how he's modified it so it works in black and white so when it's not able to be viewed in color for instance in printing on t-shirts with just one color or embroidering you can see how it would work and that's how i knew i just knew you'd be able to do this i love the backdrops to these as well really nice oh here we go so we've got solar drop i love this presentation it's like an instagram carousel we've got to start installing traveler and the solo component of the logo earth and mars i got it and tech oh so tech being sent this is your sort of idea board and i really like the way that you've um presented this it's very easy on your eyes it's kind of like an instagram carousel which is good for me because obviously designing the presentation is often a lot more important than the logo itself so ecommerce packaged every special from mazda i like the keywords that you've chosen they're very nice i like some of these other ideas as well you've gone to town on these and you can see here all these designs look awful when they're sketched but you've got the concept there you wouldn't normally show this but i like the fact that you have because it's allowed me to see where you've got to this point really clean logo this was super fun and i'm grateful to be part of it moby dude that's awesome oh you've got like an app as well that's unreal like an app what's it called like an intro page for an app that's unreal i love the fact that everything on here is to do with space it does remind me of space i'm a huge nerd when it comes to nasa anything space related i'm there and you i think you've hit the nail on the head the only thing i would add to this little mock-up thing on the right is some glow you need glow there just to make it pop from the back i know designers hate that but in this case i think having some glow on the back of these assets here which make it pop it even more but i love the perspective i love everything that you've done again typography could go a bit more futuristic it could have a slightly thicker weight or heavier weight on solar but apart from that it looks really clean and nice this is like unreal seeing everyone's work it's really good and before i get to the last and most expensive designer at 500 i wanted to just give it a minute to plug my new skillshare original class the class that a lot of you like that concept move board let's have a look so you've gone oh you've gone for like this hippie vibe going on here which i kind of like that's different i like how you've gone for the cartoons you know the futuristic cartoons the original tv soundtracks the jetsons very nice the lazy i i love the typography here and i like the keywords down here of universal safe exciting reliable that's really clever i'm imagining something very different in this presentation so i'm really excited oh wow so here's the logo concept here's the stacked view solar drop and i guess it's i don't know how to explain this one okay so first impressions of the logo so we've got the static view on the left and the constant view on the right so first off it's more of a hand lettered piece to me as for a logo i would imagine something to be a bit more scalable scaling this logo down it would be very difficult to see from like far away which is obviously going to be a problem and i'm also thinking about the branding on like the spaceship on the clothing it's very stylish and this would be great as a t-shirt i think i think it would work well on t-shirts but when putting this on a spaceship does it really scream to me like an amazon for mars or super intelligence and the main thing of the brief is an app so like we have to have an app icon which it can work well with the o in there i think one of the creative uniquenesses about this is the start inside of the o but again i have to look down look further and see how you got it to where you sort of came with this idea so the brand colors they're very muted the very pastel colors as well so i'm interested about this i understand from your mood board but these things in the movie are very like 1960 to 80s and i understand the playfulness of like space but i was thinking of something a bit more futuristic see this typography down here that would be a bit more safe for me and that'll be a bit more universal when it comes to space travel especially interstellar deliveries i love the mock-ups the mock-ups look really really nice it seems that you've taken this brand and made it less serious than to what i would have expected it which is not necessarily a bad thing it's just a different take i like the side typography here for shipping universally since 2021 that's very futuristic that's the type that you would see in space games is what people would assume is very futuristic it fits the packaging on here really well the colors are like muted and it kind of looks a bit less serious so it's hard for me to explain my thoughts on this and that was the only mock-up when it comes to the colors i think of a very vibrant and neon style of colors i'm thinking of space and that might be cliche and what i like about what you've done is that you've executed it differently i can tell by the move but it was going to be different i could tell because of your inspiration on here but i don't understand where the typographies come from although i love that typography nothing against it i don't know some of that typography's gone i don't know why you've got the jetsons in there because this company's supposed to be like a serious one um as you can see it's talking about being a interstellar e-commerce company with super intelligence i think the main problem that i'm having with this is that it's not really hitting the brief as i expected it to it's not relevant to inspire space colonization on my view but i can understand why you've done it like this maybe you're making it relevant to a mass appeal and you've just got a different take for me when going through briefs it's really important to look at keywords and for me the keywords here are e-commerce artificial super intelligence interstellar app delivery automation zero emission distribution and futurism all of these different words would be in my sort of forefront when designing a logo so unfortunately i don't think it's hit the brief but what i will say is i love the mood board i do actually love the typography on here it hits the mark but it seems very 1980s instead of 2040. let me know what you think in the comments that i could be completely wrong although i don't believe i am tell me i'm wrong i'm not yeah you can try and tell me i'm wrong you can try and tell me where i'm wrong but i'm not wrong so the work is very good i just don't think it
