hello and welcome back to your regularly scheduled uh potato Thon I'm a potato and we're going to be making some more potatoes today do you feel like a potato because if so you belong here I feel like a potato all the time maybe that's why I like potatoes so much except for mashed potatoes now slow down everybody just pump your brakes I don't dislike mashed potatoes I just think that in the list of potatoes it doesn't rank the highest for me mashed potatoes was the number one potato preparation upon when I ranked it not first everyone lost their minds the most for like yeah I don't know what it is about this like paste that you like so much but you were really mad that I didn't rank it at the top and I have a reason for it okay it's a texture thing if there's a food that I can grab with my hands squeeze and have it come gushing out through my fingers as it's prepared maybe I would choose a different type of potato first not saying I hate it but like have you ever done that by the way I want to do it maybe we'll do it today we will do it today I will do it today if you have time make mashed potatoes and grab a handful just to squeeze it and feel something anyway a lot of you love your mashed potatoes Jenna included she gave me her favorite recipe of mashed potatoes and my challenge today is trying to make it the best that I can I don't know how to do it I'm going to be following this recipe and maybe it will come out so delicious that it will climb the ranks up to S tier and we can all be a happy family or it stays where maybe I think it belongs in seat here okay again mashed potatoes are fine but like french fries and like hash browns come on I would pick those first any day I would pick the Monday I would pick them Tuesday I would pick them Wednesday hold on I would pick them Thursday I would pick them Friday hold on I'm off Saturday I'd pick them I'd pick them some today is gonna be a win-win maybe a win-win-win because at the very least Jenna will get to eat some mashed potatoes I might have a bite or two maybe some of you will forgive me for my wrongdoings that's to be determined the recipe that we have here requires some ingredients garlic cloves sea salt chives plant-based butter full fat milk I'm using Oatley kite Hill sour cream and five Yukon Gold potatoes the recipe actually calls for ten but 10 potatoes in this economy come on hello you don't need eggs this is my egg but you don't need eggs for this recipe I just have one you can you can have your emotional support egg here this is mine I think I'm also her emotional support egg am I am I your egg the first part of this recipe is a little tedious you're gonna take hella potatoes uh I'm gonna cut I'm gonna skin them I'm gonna cut them into little cubes and I'm gonna put them in water turns out that skinning and cubing five potatoes meticulously isn't super fun to watch so let's just you know we'll just speed through it with the with the magic of of movie Eddie video editing movie editing with the magic of edit we will Zoom through this part and then we'll get to the fun part of boiling milk [Music] okay amazing we did it look at that the potatoes are cubed washed slash rinsed I didn't use soap then covered with cold water that's an important part you want I guess not to shock the potatoes they're very sensitive so I'm gonna put these behind me on the burner get them to a boil tells me I need to reduce to a simmer partially cover and cook for 15 to 18 minutes or potato until potatoes are easily pierced with a fork okay time to boil these get boiling then we need to it literally says smashed garlic how do I smash garlic I know I'm ready to go okay I'm just following instructions okay tell me this isn't efficient though okay it's kind of going everywhere I'm just gonna cut it a couple times I don't think you want it diced you just want it smashed there you go yo your knuckles are a little red did you get in a fight no I made mashed potatoes I literally just followed the instructions okay so let's get our cooktop over here we're gonna put our smashed garlic into the pot along with this is 0.67 cups of full fat oat milk we're going to cook this until steaming and set it aside let me just I don't need to wash my hands wait more okay there we go we are boiling milk baby I think the reason that we're cooking this is because again you don't want to have I think adding cold milk apparently makes the potatoes the wrong texture like if the if the potatoes are hot just being cooked and mashed and you put cold milk I think it [ __ ] with the texture so we're gonna add warm milk with garlic smashed garlic in it that supposedly will keep the potatoes happy happy potato happy life is what I always say just boiling milk nothing to see here okay I'm gonna take it off give it a little whisk all right steam for proof it's definitely hot I'm gonna literally and figuratively put it on the back burner for now and we're gonna move our cooktop and literally wait because we need the potatoes to be cooked and then we get to Rice them it says for the smoothest mashed potatoes get a ricer I just met her but I actually remember using this a long time ago when I made mashed potatoes for something I forget what one of my cooking videos in the past and I will say this is a Difference Maker this makes potatoes really really soft and fluffy so if you can get your hands on a ricer even if it's not yours just steal it maybe like from a friend don't take don't steal it don't shoplift but you know borrow one of your friends potato ricer and just maybe never give it back I think this is gonna help us maybe this will increase the tier list standing of our mashed potatoes hopefully I mean otherwise what am I even doing we got some time so I think I might wash my hands and then we'll get to rycin no no we are not going to use poison uh we are going to get to ricing the potatoes ing not ricin don't erase it hey Google what's 8 times 14 2 grams half of that it's like 60 grams okay so we got to cut 60 grams of butter I actually haven't tried this but violife rarely misses I feel like it's gonna be good we'll do a little bit over 50. look at that butter reveal nice okay the butter is ready for all you mashed potato lovers out there I've prepared the butter just for you no I don't know mashed potatoes for me is like okay Thanksgiving yeah sure toss a little bit on the plate I'm not going out of my way to make it but here's the butter it's all chopped up it's actually kind of satisfying it reminds me of the moon cheese from Wallace and Gromit the crackers grommet so we have like 10 minutes until the simmering potatoes will be ready to mash slash rice it says to mash them while they're still warm which again I think the temperature thing plays a pretty important role in keeping the fluffiness because when we squeeze a handful of these potatoes we want every little crevice to be leaking potato by the way uh one of the things that has happened since I've I guess posted a cooking video here is um we adopted another Greyhound her name is Lonnie let me go get her if you're a stream enjoyer you have seen Lonnie before because I show her on stream quite a bit but for those who haven't seen her this is Lonnie she's wonderful she sleeps in our bed like all the time and Carlos Mr Marbles and she will also be helping me taste these mashed potatoes I'm sure do you want some mashed potatoes okay I actually think she prefers the apron so now Chef Lonnie's ready to go are you ready Chef Lonnie she lets me do whatever I want her you ready Lonnie ready for some mashed potatoes foreign okay good girl all right see ya Kermit's eating raw potato off the floor okay it's go time the potatoes are done simmering I'm gonna take them off of the heat I gotta strain them but keep them in a hot pot and then I'm gonna scoop them from the pot into the ricer and we will be ricing the potatoes into here and then everything's happening really fast like the temperature matters so I'm gonna try to move as fast and not chaotic as possible things are calm all right I feel as calm as ever we're making mashed potatoes everything's great so I'm going to strain them I don't have a camera on the sink so you just have to trust me that I'm straining them trust me trust me I'm straining them that's the sound of oh yeah yeah good straining noise okay the potatoes have been strained okay they're warm no time to mess around here we go we're gonna fill the ricer here we go oh baby the ricer the rice is the MVP pack it in there and rice the rice doesn't sound as graceful as it looks I will say that it sounds kind of you know two more mashes one oh baby and the last one get it in there get it all in there oh my God that looks nice now I feel like we should strain the warm milk so that the garlic doesn't enter the dish we're keeping it in the pot because I think that will help with the temperature but here we go garlic milk sometimes I use that for protein shakes that's disgusting sorry let's Stir It Around oh that's looking real good oh it's looking creamy now we gotta add the sour cream everything's moving so fast we're gonna add the butter Stir It Around this looks good again it looks like mashed potatoes though like maybe it's just gonna taste so Godly that I'm Gonna Change My Mind and this is gonna be my new favorite way to eat potatoes but doubt it this does look pretty damn good it looks creamy like look at that cream that's nice I'm gonna sprinkle in some sea salt let's do a little taste test oh my God it needs so much salt I think uh I don't know if I'm supposed to stop because I don't want to like overwork the potatoes but they kind of need a lot of Salt Lake now taste test oh bangers and mash that's when I made mashed potatoes yes I remember that now thanks for reminding me okay let's serve [Music] okay mashed potatoes are done there's your reveal shot it looks pretty good and now time to see if this uh deserves to be higher than a c [Music] I mean it's pretty good but I feel like I still have to choose french fries over that like maybe nine and a half out of ten times let's stir in the chives what do you think how's it taste what do you think is that sea tier higher B tier you're biased you just got it for free that's why you think it's B2 okay I'm gonna be honest this is pretty damn Delicious and it's not like my first time ever tasting mashed potatoes but this recipe kind of hits I think the best part about these potatoes is that they just taste so creamy it's like decadent you know it's decadent it's really good it's not it's not S2 though I think you know what I think this is I think this is a B plus tier which is right below a which is right below s like depending on how hungry I am I think uh-uh you had your try this is for the customer if I'm really hungry maybe like an A minus tier but I think this sits at B plus for me which is a whole letter grade above C where it originally ranked so you know what I really hope I did you adjust this chat you're not chat well you and chat um it's really good I feel like this is probably the best mashed potato dish that's vegan that I've ever eaten I mean it's pretty pretty on point it's creamy it's rich but it's not too much It's Kind of Perfect damn it's really good damn it's really good okay mashed potatoes are a minus tier okay they've moved up to letter grades here you go a minus tier okay but I think legally I have to now I think it's a b tier again like why can I do that with food food shouldn't be allowing me to do that it's the food's fault anyway there's some left over comment below maybe I'll send you some I'll just put it in an envelope I ship internationally thanks for
