I made a FORTRESS for my PrimeWeld TIG from a $9 abandoned file cabinet PART 1

so here's the situation i need a place to store my welder that's not in my shed and it's near the welding table and i think i found the perfect thing i found two hinges that i think we can weld here so far yeah hmm i don't think these will work what do you think is the mercedes probably for sale here too let's see it doesn't stick around all those toilets right here this is what we're here for let's see if any of these filing cabinets would make any sense for a welder cabinet all right i think it's what we're going to hack up right here 20 and a half 18 five 20 knots that's hurt empty yeah so the high false floor isn't the best thing that's okay we can move that down look looks pretty sturdy though so that's what we want perfect too small it's like cover it feels like it's concrete or something yeah it's weird [Applause] our most consequential decision which chair to get all right ten dollars cheaper versus this one and it spins can't beat that it's good all right gotta load it in welding chair it's nice and loaded and your toilet for the house too it's a fancy day all right so check it out this is adjustable i'm wondering if we can just put the welder right in here and then we could have it kind of slide out the drawer right so maybe we could take advantage of that restore cartridge if it fits in yeah look at that but i'm not sure if it will go in that's going to be the question now what would happen i think it's too tall at the moment so it might be perfect though yeah it's perfect come around here let me show you the slide check it out so this is the slide that sits in and so that might be an ideal thing so yeah point back in there yeah there's one on top we don't want the top one to take that out i think it's pie so we pick up and the slider comes out that's just about perfect so if we just i think we get this bar off here we'll figure out if this is going to slide through right and i think that might work and then we got to add wheels and a trailer hitch if we want to make it a trailer but for now it could just be a little cab did and store the welder in and just kind of pull it out i have to make some access holes for the hose and the uh you know some storage and we got to make it so we can attach stuff right so i have to make this detachable but this might work i'm liking it show them how far back this thing goes yeah look at that i can't believe that fits in that drawer so well it's just about perfect [Applause] a measure also from the restore yeah look there's our stool again that one's a little too high this is a grinder tool set and there is all the tools you can eat this fat we just remember that we had that little guy who that we got it very recently or and that big guide cut off like we've already said that bar right there that's where it's going to slide that's the bottom drawer that's the top and it is a filing cabinet or we could use the sawzall all right let's uh see if we can get this done i want your protection greatest invention ever all right well now let's see what happens all right we're done making noise trevor all right let's see if this is genius or fail oh you do your way up there [Music] look at that she's in there that is just about perfect look at this fits really nicely so then you can pull it out gotta do the latch definitely got to watch for these like sharp metal areas right here i want to cut the cord up but the idea is good so i think this could work and there it is we've got our little start to our cabinet all right so i'm for the reflection i think this whole top rail just has to go it's just going to be in the way it's going to catch on stuff i don't think it's structurally necessary if it is we can weld some bar stock or something back in downside is if you look right here i think it's all held in by rivets so there's like six rivets on each side and so i'm just going to drill those out make it look nicer even though sawzall was a ton of fun what do you want to be fed and so the drilling was going really well until i got a little bit too ambitious and then well this is what happens when you just get going you get in a zone and you should have put something behind it got a little too ambitious with the drilling and put a hole in it so you know that's all right it's going to get beat up i have to put something cool on the outside maybe or you'll just have a hole there we go all right i gotta bring up big guns for a second now as with so many projects it turns out this probably wasn't very necessary if i just put a much bigger drill bit on i could have just drilled out all those spot welds and not gone through all this so it's been so much faster but you learn and one advantage of not learning is that i got to play with the sauce all a bunch i don't always get to do that so here it is enjoy some sawzalling as i cut through this cabinet and of course because it saws all it likes to go everywhere and it sounds really cool 8x speed see we've done some some damage over here with the sawzall just half the point of the sawzall but uh yeah a little more than i wanted so not a precision instrument so i'll have to take a little bit slower i'm gonna figure out how to fix that up but not a big deal let me pull that out well i finally had it down i started drilling out the holes still didn't have a big enough bit but that's okay then i started sliding the sawzall in there after i'd cut off the rail with the grinder and so it went on like this for a little bit and i finally got both those rails out again it took too long but i did get to play with all these tools that i have so that was kind of nice and after we got the rails out it's time to pop the front face off the drawer all right so now what we're going to do is take these off we got some more spot welds to get off and they just love these spot welds but no front comes off and this drawer is ready to use for the welder [Music] well this side may have been a bigger hole than we needed there's also a few little ones in here this side just came out beautifully though just boom all right let's check out this genius masterpiece right here put this in so now it works trades in pull out and now for my moment of genius here we go i think it's going to invent a whole new category right here i think we've done it so this spread comes out a little bit prime welded there she is look she's got a little house so that is our restore filing cabinet turned into a little storage shed for the prime weld got a lot more to do to it so we can keep it hooked up but hey it's a good start well we got some of that white stuff up here in the mountains it's spring anyways could have any time to check out how the welder did in our new little welder fortress you can see the snow all around you got to cover everything up and ta-da it's good look the book's dry let's try enclosure's good there's a little bit of snow all around so you gotta obviously know your environment but it's working and now we just have to improve on this so we need some way to hang the torch the ground the extension cord obviously open up the back so that uh we can get air through when you get the plug out we get the argon in and of course it all has to close up so we can come in here and you know prevent it from getting all snowed on or rained on or whatever on it's gonna happen out here
