i got beat up at the NYC Marathon 2022

come on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so the race is in 12 hours I don't know why I'm so nervous I've done this before it's just another run let me see it all right that's your sister [Music] how's your day going thank you foreign [Music] [Music] and the Heart of a break [Applause] 10 minutes 10 minutes until start time [Music] how you feeling about today I feel great it's a beautiful mother out here it's a little warm today for the marathon but five minutes five minutes till race time [Music] two minutes out they've queued us up at the front one minute [Music] this is it this is it this is it [Applause] so far I'm tired I'm tired that's mile one it's gonna be back [Music] that's it we're over the Verrazano next stop Brooklyn [Music] there it is mile two thank you thank you have a nice day this part of the marathon story this part of the marathon story is about it's about accountability [Applause] [Music] Saturday November 5th 2022 the day before the marathon [Music] [Applause] I'm gonna come in somewhere between three hours and four hours so imagine this is like a clock yellow here this is three hours in one minute this is my fastest marathon time ever there's no chance I will achieve a 301. pink here represents between 301 and 310. this would require a damn Miracle to achieve this window is a major reach [Music] this is where I expect to land tomorrow good job Casey [Music] smile three showing up is the hard part and your time doesn't matter but earlier this summer when I was taking my training seriously I should have been able to come close to 301 and then I just stopped like I didn't put the work in so if I don't earn a good time it's my fault [Applause] thank you [Music] there oh Casey let's go Casey that's mile six I gotta run 20 more this is uh this is gonna get ugly [Music] that's 10 miles [Music] what happened next shocked me in a million years I didn't see this coming and it completely just bought like through it just [Music] what's going on well I went big I was really trying for PR but between the Heat and my calf I just don't have it so yeah you're running for crossbody finish this race for me and just like that my running partner my friend of 20 years a 258 marathoner in New York City just he was done he bailed he left the course he was we were pacing each other from that moment on Mile 11 I was on my own there he is a little downhill go KC [Music] Let's Go Crazy [Music] I just crossed halfway point about 13 I'm I'm walking but I saw an eve at mile 12 and he said he was dropping out ah I'm not doing good I'm not doing good [Music] I'm running again here we go [Music] walking through mile 15 that will not be the last mile I walk through Mommy time to acknowledge that pain is just weakness leaving the body and every step of getting stronger right right [Music] I can't hear him [Music] [Music] let's go Casey let's go Casey let's go Casey this that's me there this this was 12 years ago this was my first ever marathon and this was by far the hardest race I've ever run nervous I didn't see you for a while and since this race every other race I've done has been easier every race until the New York City marathon 2022 foreign [Music] how many miles is 30 kilometers we gotta keep moving we got to keep what's happening all right I'm in the Bronx I'm not doing good how you doing [Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome to the bride maybe dying we're not dead yet [Applause] slowly on your skin keep yourself [Music] see here's the thing about a race like this on a day like this in a city like this it's not just about like running 26 miles it's not just about the people doing it [Music] it's the crowd there to celebrate it it's like the cops and the helpers there to enable it is [Music] this is what this city is it's a it's a collective shared experience for everyone involved regardless of what their role is it's not there's not there's not like there there's not winning there's not losing it's just about doing because you can [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]

There's a time in every young male's life when we realise we're not bullet proof and you cannot just turn up to a marathon and run it like you used to... age is a bitch.
