[Music] hi my name is lara i've been in the foster system for a very very long time it was a pretty dark time for me and more often than not i felt completely hopeless that my situation would get any better don't get me wrong most of the foster families were nice and love to spoil every single one of their foster kids but that was not always the case and when you are in the foster care system for as long as i have been you realize that there are quite a few people who only want to foster to reap the benefits and government checks these people were always cruel they lived off the government's money the money that should have been used to take care of the orphaned kid now in their care i guess when you've sunk low enough to not even be able to maintain a job you don't care much about the kid that the government has put into your care i was lucky enough to get out of these abusive families but i fear for the many others that have not been as lucky as i have through the time in the system i tried to work as many jobs as i could i knew that once i became an adult i would need to fend for myself and could not rely on the government as others do i worked and saved my money and worked some more and saved some more i didn't spend my money on things i did not need normally my foster parents would pay for my essentials but there was every so often that i ran out of something and needed it quickly so i would go out and buy it i never minded i knew how much of a burden i was anyways i was not one to try and get attached to any of these families at first i had i would spend time with them tell them about myself my other foster families the friends i made along the way but no matter how much i put myself out there i would always move to a new foster home and lose contact with everyone from the previous house this happened so often that i now was a reclusive aloof foster child my foster parents would wonder if i was a runner or would bolt as soon as they close their eyes but they soon found me to be responsible and reliable it seemed like forever but eventually i became an adult i got out of the foster system got a real job and to my surprise found out that my recent foster parents had gotten me an apartment and paid for the first four months rent with my new freedom i wanted to search for my parents but i was too poor to afford a private investigator and anything like that i had nearly given up all hope until the day my friend tagged me in a facebook post i didn't go on social media very often but for some reason i went on now and i saw a comment on the post that i looked exactly like this one other woman i looked up this person on the facebook search and i was shocked when i saw this woman she looked like me after searching through her page i spotted her post about being pregnant the same time i would have been in the womb she posted a birth photo on the exact day of my birth i then found something that confirmed it all she posted a important evenings of my life went terrible this is raquel my boyfriend we've been dating for the past four years and everything was going great a week ago he told me that his parents wanted to meet me as far as i knew raquel was very close to his parents more than anyone else including me so i was very tensed and tried canceling the meeting by giving different excuses i have fallen sick met with a fake accident and injured my leg my aunt showed up for an unpredicted visit after so many tricks one evening i was relaxing in my hostel room listening to my favorite songs on the ipod and then the room doorbell rang i opened the door and i was surprised to see raquel raquel asked me to change my clothes quickly as he has planned for a romantic dinner woohoo that was sweet of him in no time i went inside and came back from getting ready we get into the car and he took me on a long drive it was a romantic dinner it should be full of surprises so i hesitated to ask him anything finally the car stopped i thought we reached the destination but i could not see any hotel we got out of the car and i could only see the apartments then raquel came close to me and said let's go home romantic dinner is waiting for us what romantic dinner at home he lied no but he did do the same thing i had done so many days before we walked together and reached the elevator raquel asked me to remember that his mom belongs to a very elegant superior and royal family and his dad is a retired navy officer i was boiling with anger i just wanted to forget that i'm standing outside his house and wanted to kill him i used google to search articles on the navy so that i could connect with raquel's father but there was so much information available that i was just getting confused we reached the door and i was pissed off i grabbed raquel's neck with both of my hands and tried squeezing it right at that moment the door opened and his parents saw my cruel behavior it was undoubtedly embarrassing that his parents saw me doing all that but they tried to be polite pretending they hadn't noticed anything and yes this was just the beginning i entered the house and the interior was remarkable royal furniture beautiful chandeliers expensive paintings lavish curtains perfectly depicted the life of the royal family i was so amazed and i didn't know that raquel was so rich raquel's mom invited me to sit at the table she was very graceful and haughty but that was fine for me all the dishes on the table looked like they were served in a five-star hotel food was served and i was getting hungry without waiting for anyone i started eating raquel's mom and dad were looking at me with their eyes goggling but then raquel giggled so loudly to make the situation pleasant finally they joined him too giggling and started eating i was busy eating delicious food and in the middle of it raquel's father asked me about my plans i stopped eating at that moment drank a small amount of water before speaking anything and birth yuck that was my cheap etiquette when i started talking i felt so embarrassed that i couldn't control my weird behavior guessing by the look raquel's parents were giving each other i concluded that this was their first experience meeting such a weird girl like me and so i decided to remain quiet the conversation was quite uncomfortable eventually after finishing my meal i slowly and softly held the glass of water and started drinking now i wasn't sure what bad luck i would face that moment another question arises from raquel's mom do you know that raquel is gay porcelain signs i also noticed one strange credit debit his card was debited 19.51 from his place of employment but credited 1951 it looked fishy are you stealing from your job no it's just a reimbursement they just messed it up the first time he got reimbursements from his job regularly but something about this didn't seem right a friend of mine suggested i look more deeply into the money she handed me a rip of paper with a divorce attorney's name and number on it i didn't think i would use it but i put it in my jacket pocket anyway i went through all of our accounts and through every purchase he had made i started to notice more strange credits and debits to and from his place of work like negative 26 dollars and then positive six hundred dollars the same day there were several of responded i held my breath yes he responded i did i set my phone down and realized my hand was shaking my whole body was shaking i walked to where my jacket was hung i removed the piece of paper with travel once or twice a month and the trips can last from one to three days so i'm out of the house one or two nights i started to have a suspicion that something was going on because every time i would come back from a trip the sheets would be changed on our bed i asked her about it but all she said was i know you like having clean sheets when you get home i decided to set up cameras around i was actually staying to spy on her as soon as i left she got into her car and drove back to that same hotel i drove there and waited and eventually saw her and lover boy come out of the hotel kiss and part ways i planned on confronting them at the hotel the very next round when they exited and did their usual parting kiss another woman that i found out later was the other guy's wife burst from between the cars in a sprint carrying a tire iron neither of them saw it coming she whacked her husband first and my wife next hit them both several times dropped the tire iron and left both were motionless but still breathing trying to decide what to do two security people ran from the hotel to check on them one of them calling for help i watched the whole thing unfold with paramedics whisking them both away someone from the hospital called me and told me where she was i went there and found her room and stayed with her for the rest of the day she finally awoke and told me what happened everything about the affair and the attack and i told her i'd be filing for divorce her lover's wife was convicted and is serving 10 years for multiple aggravated assaults what's your story
