I engine swapped my 4wd! TD42 GQ Patrol

foreign we pulled this td42 out of a rusty old gu 217 000 kilometers kilometers on it Factory turbo blacktop and then in today's episode we're pulling my 700 000 kilometer td42 silver top out of this GQ which has a few problems going on and replacing it with a fresh upgraded elastic lower kilometer healthy engine proudly supported by ultimate 9 tread Opus campus Superior engineering and in part life so the rough plan is we've got to unbolt everything out of the way get this block out and then bolt all my parts onto that new block over there so obviously all my Turbo set up fuel pump everything will stay exactly the same once that new motor's set up we'll then try and drop it back in and rebuild everything that's a general idea isn't it yeah so then Nick got that April parts during the week to get us set up for today so what did you get you want to do a run through rig run down injectors out of that old mode like the GU redone like guy plugs yeah so reconditioned to Turbo spec Yep they're nice and fresh yep yeah new nozzles all the crack pressures all raised so they're all right 200 mounts two oil filters I've got a pulley because this one is really loud I got a whole bunch of belts there was options so I just got all the options we got some bangs to bang off any of the factory turbo stuff that we don't need to use thermostat thermostat gasket water pump gasket Inlet gasket and a spill rail so hopefully you got all the parts because it's a weekend so we need stuff it may be hard to get it but yeah we'll see how we go thank you that's normal yeah [Music] oh please I'm gonna have to crawl around in the cooler man [Music] up and over the camera that would have been a good video [Music] [Music] you're gonna have to get that dropped on your side starter [Music] what are you getting off Nick The Dump up nah I'm done from the top now I'm about the engine support brackets do you want to run run through while you're looking at it what we pulled off at the top yeah so right obviously you start a motor wiring and your starter motor comes off battery's out top mount intercoolers off radio fan and the shroud's off we pulled the ac lines off everything else stays on obviously engine mounts have to come off still to obviously be able to pick it up power steering pump comes off and sits to the side and now what I'm doing the gearbox mounts bell housing bolts bell housing bolts and all that no undoed engine mounts put a crane on them and then lift up pull around all right [Music] so I took that block off the crane so I can bring the crane over just finishing undoing engine mounts and then we'll start pulling this one up first thing I'll tell you identifies as a truck that's what it is [Music] foreign [Music] coming up out now but the crane doesn't bring it quite high enough so just figuring out a plan of how we can get it this last bit up out of the engine bay so we've flown the tires and what are you currently doing trying to ratchet the body down so that's hot that lowers it pull it down and see if we can get enough clearance we're getting there but better MacGyver it out but she is getting there that's the plus size get the fuel pump off yeah three bolts in the back and that'll be off 12 mil pump from my boy two seven four five nine three two double five mate you call him up you call him you call him up you got do it but so what what is it you're thinking about doing about clearances yeah yeah but which expects points very far and that's 0.35 and that's like a perfect fit yeah right like it's not like loose it's not like real tight I can't poke it in there but it's got resistance look unless I'm grabbing it they're not coming here mate I reckon they rebuild this motor before look at this rose gold rocket back on what is this she needs a claim bar yeah it does a bit of freshen up a bit of a fresh [Music] so injectors are going in now and you're talking about the spec which is yeah whatever whatever you said whatever you said it so what's your plan what are we up to putting this sandwich plate on um we put a clutch on I've got to pull that other fuel pump off knock on the jobs out see a truck now mate she's a truck gotta get a bit of bit of oil just Lube up the seam a bit [Music] [Applause] [Music] I missed missed the um pump going on didn't even see it so you got the 12 mil pump on now uh yeah half on yeah and you're what are you doing with the now timing and stuff yeah yeah and the other on exhaust manifold yeah no intake anti yeah yeah it was awesome might give a flush for mountains though [Music] spongy King is back jealousy King drying the oil out yeah so that's a fresh set of glow plugs yeah sure did they're in there I'm trying to hold my hand Bella look at that Turbo someone helped us working for a sweatshop help well on everybody's laughing at you'll see later you'll see editing [Applause] the sun's going down it's starting to get a bit light we've got a couple lights in the shed here now big ones Sean and Berto are just slowly piecing together this block everything going on like injector lines Turbo's all on turbo oil drain or feed is that done but I was doing the water pump now it's just about there then we can roll it over and try and get it in tonight well we should hopefully so is that her pretty much built now ready to go in um yeah I can't put this line on because of this inject the line six yeah and all the clamps and that I'll do that in the car because I'm gonna put the intake on after yeah so but other than that thermostat's on water pumps on new gasket new pulleys on um oh we're gonna put that we're gonna put the AC on as well so we've got a fresh thermostat and then the water pump's just the one off that I had on my block which is also pretty fresh pretty new anyways that's why I reused it what do you reckon card new engine in the car you cane oh look at that we got a lot [Music] thank you so we got the motor I I don't know what I say we I didn't know I turned the camera on and off yeah I did that I did a few bolts today yeah I got zeph now so can't do much not that I did much anyway that's my decisions yeah so I got the motor Winder up and gonna try and drop it in in she goes right yeah strong bike right that was only my barely doing nothing they pulled the engine straight in with his bare hands yeah [Music] yeah right you're right you're right how's the back tire yeah beautiful nothing got caught she's dropping yeah does that work so as you drop it in you just gotta try and line up with the engine mounts and like the bell housing yeah I'm holding my belly hasn't been here I am trying to line up with the input shaft as well yeah so you're throwing first thing you normally do is try and get the Box on once the box is on the motor can move left or right but it can't move forward and back yeah so then so again if you put the mounts on you won't be able to get the Box on with the input shaft so try and get it yeah so we'll get the Box on then put the mount in yeah so drop it down line it up with the input shaft in the Box stepped in and then left and right to get the engine mounts [Music] um nearly there just having a hard time getting it to connect up to the bell housing at the back there into the gearbox it's looking pretty slick in there though all right back again the next day it is Sunday morning um ended up finishing it after dinner last night got the engine in mounted up to the gearbox and this morning just finishing off bolting it onto the engine mounts and then we can begin reassembling everything [Music] thank you [Music] so we're gonna do an update then just put it in we think everything's done up and we're going to find it yeah so just put the Block in both everything up obviously Fuel and oil and power and all that but we've left the radiator out intercooler off so when we started we can see better and make sure there's no issues so we'll just turn it off after like 10 seconds yeah okay you know just a quick one first start of that it'll be fine new TV it was only running in that other car a week ago so that's right [Laughter] thank you [Music] [Applause] so now the motor is up and running we know it works cooling system and inner cooling system back together yeah and then we'll give her an actual test run thank you [Music] I haven't put the intercooler on yet but cooling system is back together gonna drive it out warm it up give a bit of run around and see um yeah how it's gone we'll put the intercooler on last hopefully everything's together nicely now or is anything we need to muck around fixing up we'll do it definitely something there knocking got to be something to do with like the injectors and there she's got a little bit of a field knock so go try and figure out where that's coming from and then should be good we're trying to look up a diagram of those injector lines [Applause] on normal so no you don't go from one to six yeah no yeah yeah are you going the right way are you going around the road of the right way because he should be the last which way are you going I was going right oh no no hold on hold on hold on I'll look at it like that um I don't know I'm off my head you have a look he's he's up to 14 days straight he's out enough yeah number four that's it there yeah yeah yeah that was missing [Applause] listen to it next time you need to know the firing order of a TD and he just called me again eh I was gonna I was gone I didn't want to call you your last resort yeah we'll uh swap these injectors around everything cheers Timmy start [Applause] so that was that's it problem solved be used to say those I can't believe that big stitch up so that's it it's running beautifully now just a little injector Switcheroo there it's five and six bit of mix match uh yeah plug it all back together and that's it she done I Reagan turned up 40 pound equal every single shim out of the 12 mil that'd be a good truck though it'd be good be a good truck thank you [Music] [Applause] give it a little stood up Sean he's alive so that's it all done fresh engines walked into the td42 huge thanks to Nick Sean Buster they're asking him for me so yeah last weekend we pulled it out got it ready out of the other car this weekend we've took this motor out yesterday and got it in and got it all up and running today that's a new turbo spec Factory blacktop td42 in yeah I'm super stoked for that that's gonna be good hopefully the tomatoes serve this car well for a long time foreign [Applause] [Music]
