I Declined an Hermes Quota Bag 😅*Storytime & answering your questions*

hi everyone welcome back to my Channel today I've got an Hermes video recently I announced on my Instagram that I was offered a quota bag from the boutique and I politely declined it yes I declined a quota bag how dare I so I've got a story time to share with you I'm going to jam pack this video with lots of information actually many of you submitted questions to my Instagram so I wrote down all of your questions and I'm going to answer them one by one today they're all written in my notebook here this is the Hermes Ulysses notebook in the gold Toco leather it's beautiful so there are 12 unique questions a lot of the questions were repetitive it seemed like most of you were really curious about my pre-spend and how this led to a quarterback offer and also questions around whether I'm worried if uh declining the bag offer will hurt me in the future and what was their reaction so I'm going to answer all of those questions in as much detail as I can and I'll also show you a little bit of eye candy as we talk so for starters what is a quota bag a couple of you asked me what does that mean and if you don't you know really know the sort of Airmen system quota bags are the bags that Hermes limits production on you know these bags take a long time to hand make and they do I think intentionally limit production of course reasonably they do take a while to construct and so they can't make a whole ton at a time but I also do think for exclusivity reasons and to keep these bags as highly coveted as possible they do limit production so these are bags that are technically the ones that sell themselves these are the coda bags so the Kelly I'm gonna undo that in a minute the Birkin of course and the constants but nowadays so many of the other bags have become really popular as well so it's kind of hazy as to what other bags are technically in the quota bag category I've even heard like the mini Kelly is now a quarterback or any Kelly really and I think it's just as hard to get some of the other bags like the Lindy and the picotin but generally from like a classic point of view it's the Birkin the Kelly and the constants that are considered to be quota bags these are bags that Hermes sales associates do not receive any Commission on maybe they you know they somehow contribute to their sales bonus at the end of the year but they don't earn commissions so again they're kind of seen as bags that sell themselves and they're hard to get so usually when someone receives a quota bag offer that's what happens an air mass sales associate will offer you a bag and say you know would you like this or perhaps this is one that was on your wish list if you submitted a list earlier saying these are the kinds of bags that I would like then most often I think people will jump and automatically accept that offer either because you know it's so rare and you don't want to wait for the next opportunity that may never come or some people are saying you just take it and then you flip it on the real resale Market if you don't love it for yourself and you can make basically 100 profit the next day but I declined this offer because I'm not in the business of flipping Hermes bags and because I know that these are so hard to come by I just wanted to leave the bag there for whoever might really really be excited and happy to have it I didn't want to steal that opportunity from someone else because I know how happy I was when I got my bags so I declined the offer now let me show you exactly which bag it was and then I'll go into answering all of your questions alright so here we are this is the bag that I was offered a few weeks ago it is an Hermes Kelly in the 25 size it is obviously a really bright pop of color such a cheerful happy color actually and it's in the Swift leather which I don't own and from what I understand the Swift leather really really absorbs color beautifully it's very saturated and here I am holding it and it's a great size to 25 I have the 28 and I tried on this 25 and it felt really comfortable it has the Palladium Hardware just the color was so not me and I kept looking at it and thinking I don't think that I can actually use this enough to justify the purchase but here I'm holding it against my frame and it looks really dainty and adorable um I don't know it's the it's the Rose Texas color by the way that's the name it looks a little bit funny here because the boutique lighting is very yellow but you can kind of get a sense of how bright this is it's like an orangey reddish um I know it's an interesting shade actually it's not pure red it's not pure Orange it's kind of neon sort of or maybe it looks like that to me here's the back of it very smooth leather and Swift you guys know I love the grains on the Togo Leather So this was a different type for me and yeah I'm just giving you a close-up so you can get a sense and then I will answer all of your questions but I want to give you as many photos as I can I took just a few photos to trying to be respectful I try not to pull out my phone too often when I'm talking to my sales associate here it is all wrapped up there you see the Palladium Hardware against this beautiful pop of color I know that someone out there will absolutely love this bag in fact it will be the dream bag for someone as you can see I am very much a neutrals gal and as much as I tried to go out of my comfort zone and add pops of color doing it in an Hermes Kelly bag I felt was a little too outside my comfort zone so I did tell my sales associate that it's gorgeous and I really appreciate the offer but I think the color is just too much for me and of course my sales associate knows me by now and has a sense of my style and immediately was like I get it I get it definitely no pressure I think you should wait for the right one definitely don't buy this if you don't feel like it's you and so that was that so from here on out I'm just going to answer all of your questions and hopefully you can stick with me because I am going to pack as much information that hopefully will be helpful to all of you who might be in the process of either acquiring an Hermes bag or you're already shopping and you're starting to get an idea of what you want I'm just going to leave these out as eye candy and I'll use them also for reference as I answer some questions so one of the questions was how long did it take for you to get a bag offer so I'm assuming that means the new bag offer and so I got this one two years ago around my birthday and then last year around my birthday I got the Kelly this one was the first Hermes bag that I got I actually waited about three weeks technically put it sort of like on a wait list and this was my first purchase from the sales associate that I mentioned earlier that I continued to shop with so this is the mini Evelyn in the Clements leather and the gold color my absolute favorite with the gold hardware and uh I guess this was about three years ago so about three two one it's been a little less than a year since my last bag acquisition which was my Kelly 28 and so I was definitely happily surprised and appreciative when my sales associate brought out the Kelly 25 because it hasn't been all that long I feel like a year or less than a year it's kind of a short period in the world of Hermes and someone asked is the bag new or used all of my bags are from the boutique so they're all new and then of course the new Kelly 25 that was offered to me recently as you could see I was in the boutique that was also new buying on the resale Market is always an option and you have so many more options that way and you have more control however you are going to pay a pretty hefty premium because a lot of these bags especially the Bergens and the Kelly's will go for a double the retail price okay did you receive the offer without doing pre-spend now for those of you who are not familiar with this language pre-spend is a concept that hasn't really been um like officially validated by anyone at Hermes but people speak of this pre-spend meaning that there's this idea that you have to spend at least the equivalent of the bag that you want before you even have a chance of it being offered to you so for example if the Kelly 25 right now is about 10 500 or so then you would have to purchase other non-leather goods from the boutique ideally from one sales associate to build up credibility history Rapport all of that so you would spend at least let's say 10K and then work up the nerve to possibly ask for the bag that you want some people have said in aggressive markets or you know really competitive markets you have to do at least a two to one ratio on the pre-spend meaning you'd have to spend at least twenty thousand dollars in other categories perhaps ready to wear shoes jewelry Home Goods Etc and then you might have an opportunity for a quota bag offer in my case I live here in Manhattan and I think I'm a little bit Lucky in New York I think they have more inventory kind of like Paris not as much as Paris but there are certain major metropolitan cities that just a lot of people flock to and therefore they really stock more of these bags than in the smaller boutiques and so I actually didn't even reach a full one-to-one ratio on my pre-spend when I was offered my Birkin so the broken I think at the time was eleven thousand I know it's gone up a little bit since then again this was about two years ago and if I were to total up all of my purchases I'm talking like years of purchases in random cities not just at the New York Boutique but in other cities I traveled to as well as Paris if you edit it all up it was still short of the price of the broken so I think some of it is luck some of it is inventory and Supply some of it is how you build a relationship with a certain sales associate I also think how much history your sales associate has and how much clout they have you know are they more senior do they have a large client roster do they have more influence in the kind of bags that they can secure or are they a newer sales associate and they have to sort of wait their turn to get bags for their clients I think all of those variables really add up so it's not just one thing so I was lucky to get my broken 30. I'll give you a close-up without the full one-to-one pre-spend in the beginning anyway and I've always said from the start I know it's harder than it seems but I've always said when shopping with Hermes or any other brand frankly I only buy what I really love and I'm not just gonna buy knickknacks here and there just to build a pre-spend history because then I will wind up resenting the brand and especially if they don't offer me a bag I will wind up being probably very frustrated so I didn't ever want to do that sort of game so everything that I've purchased from Hermes I wear constantly here's my bracelet I have so many of their bracelets here's the ring I have their shawls and scarves and I've bought gifts for family members and friends and I only do that oh and a couple of the tableware Like Home Goods I only buy what I really think is beautiful and I I would use then a year later about a year later I got my Kelly 28 and I I don't think I spent as my I don't think I spent that much before the Kelly I think maybe it was like 50 50 or less than 50 of the Kelly 28s price so if you're thinking of the pre-spend ratio maybe like half to one because I bought some things for my husband and those things added up like some belts and shirts and things like that um so I don't know if that helps and then from from this last purchase to now well there's a question about that later I'll get to it um yeah okay the question was what was your pre-spend I guess from the last purchase to the new Kelly 25 offer I actually write down everything that I buy I have lists and spreadsheets I'm just like that I keep track of all my finances and I went back and I was able to easily track and I spent about twenty two hundred dollars at all the different Hermes boutiques that I shopped at in the last year including Paris I picked up something for my daughter it's a small little bracelet when she turned 13. so that's obviously not even close to the pre-spend one-to-one ratio what is that like 25 not even 25 percent of the price of the Kelly 25 so I know hearing this might aggravate some of you and my heart definitely goes out to those of you who've been spending and are not getting an offer because of whatever reason I hope you're spending on things that you really can enjoy in the meantime so you don't start to feel resentment um next question is did you continue shopping at Hermes since your last offer yep so as I mentioned this was my last offer and I purchased a couple different things I actually purchased the Kelly pocket belt I talk about that a lot I love the Kelly belt I have the regular Kelly belt in gold and I have the Kelly pocket belt in black and it's just such a versatile piece and then I got some gifts so I think that totaled about 22 to 2400 so not much um not to say not much but you know what I mean not much in the world of Hermes and then how long was the time since your last quota offer as I mentioned this was a little less than a year ago so it's been about 10 months Hermes quality stayed the same or have you seen a decrease in Decline um these three bags were all purchased in different years this one being the oldest then this one and this one in that order and I am very pleased with the quality even on this mini Evelyn I feel like the leather quality is so amazing it smells good the stitching is impeccable it just feels nice and I have not noticed at all a decline or difference in the quality but I'm also not an expert in leather I have obviously seen declines in quality in other brands that I've talked about in the past like Chanel and Louis Vuitton only because I have more of their products and I've seen more of their products and I've touched more of their products and I've had quality issues come across for me that I've had to return but in terms of Hermes I haven't heard any noise around it I feel like the reason why people don't balk at the price increases with Hermes is because they keep their quality very consistent and their price increases are somewhat reasonable compared to the double-digit percentage increases that you see from their competitors so I would say the quality has stayed the same unless someone else has Intel that I'm just not aware of but in my eyes the bags look great and I've been really happy with the leather quality and the craftsmanship next question there's only four more questions four or five more questions was the Kelly 25 on your wish list so that's a bit of a story the only thing that I ever really put on my wish list I guess was my mini Evelyn and they they said you know it's going to take a few weeks and I was like I'll I'm willing to wait um I never really had a wish list because the list implies several items and I've always requested one thing at a time so after I got my mini Evelyn about a year later I did ask for the Birkin 30 and that was the only bag I asked for and you guys know if you know my story I literally asked for this bag I didn't just say I want a broken I said I would love a broken 30 size Toco leather gold um I wanted all of these specs and the only thing I left open was the hardware I was like I'm fine with either gold or Palladium but secretly I'm really happy with the Palladium Hardware because it's just so gorgeous and I feel like it looks a little bit more understated and I can also wear this casually because it's not like two bling bling gold um so I don't know if that's considered a wish list and then the Kelly 28 so here's where the story gets interesting so at first I requested the Kelly 25 and then I switched to the 28 so I think in my sales Associate's mind I had always talked about both and when I ultimately said I think I want the red tornee 28 . I'm so happy I got the gold Hardware on this because I think the Kelly is just a little bit more of a dressy bag and I think it works um and I left it open like any neutral color type of thing and I did say at the time last year I said I'm also open to baby steps towards pops of colors and even when I said it I was kind of doubting myself and I'm really I was trying to push myself out of my comfort zone so my guess is that my sales associate being very meticulous made notes in my file and probably noted 25 would be okay as well pops of color might be okay as well I got this offer and then very recently I mentioned to my sales associate that you know I don't reach for this all that much I think it's a beautiful bag but I think gray tone bags are just not my usual thing and I wonder if it was a different color if I might reach for it more it was more of a dialogue and to me it didn't seem like it made sense to have multiples of the same bag so I thought would a 25 work better now I have said in the past that I'm good with one of each I'm not here to collect them all this is not Pokemon I'm not getting every single color under the rainbow so I thought if I get another Kelly that's just absolutely perfect maybe I will give this up I've even considered gifting this to my mom that was kind of the sort of discussion ongoing and so I never really requested a specific thing I never used the word wish list but when I was there I mentioned you know any Kelly's available and my sales associate was kind enough to go to the back bring out what I was told was the only Kelly in the 25 size it happened to me that was not already sort of designated for another client this was sort of like a free-floating Kelly and I thought oh how nice but as soon as I saw the color I was like oh I don't know if I can do this and my sales associate knew right away just looking at my face that it was probably going to be a no so that was that was that that hopefully answers your question wasn't technically me putting it on the wish list but there was some discussion about it for a little bit then if they had offered you a different bag or a different color different leather or Hardware Etc would you have accepted uh yeah I think I would have been open just because I've been dabbling with the idea of gifting this or letting it go I'm still very happy with this bag and I will use it until whenever and whenever I do wear it I feel really happy and I think it's just a beautiful bag it's the green Meyer color it's my elephant and I have a fascination with animals and elephants in particular when I was a little girl I used to have this little elephant sculpture well it wasn't mine it was at my maternal grandparents house and for some reason I love that elephant so when I think of this color even though gray is not usually my choice color I smile at the idea of elephant so I am enjoying it and I've been talking about enjoying more of what I have and just being grateful for everything I have already and not constantly chasing for more so I am at that point but yeah if if there was an offer for something that was just so perfect I probably would have accepted it and then swapped this or gifted this or Let It Go I think so I'm trying to be as honest with myself as possible I think I definitely would have been open otherwise why would I have even opened the dialogue about other colors and other Kelly's in the first place right and then the next question is are you worried that you won't get another offer since you declined this time I think saying no actually shows a level of respect not only for yourself because it's your hard-earned money but also to the brand because they know these bags are highly sought after they have a limited amount they're trying to make their clients happy most of the sales associates want to send their clients out with a happy smile on their face I mean I would want to if I was a salesperson right so if you say no and you're very honest it leaves that bag open for someone else another client and I think that's probably better than looking like you'll just jump at anything and then possibly flip it on the resale Market I just feel like that that doesn't seem to go well the last question is what was your reaction when you declined so that's not my first time declining a bag from Hermes I don't know if you guys have watched all of my Hermes videos I have a playlist down below but this is not a quota bag technically this mini Evelyn but when I first went to the store I was with another friend and we were both looking at this bag and she actually bought one that day they had black red like a tomato red they had like four or five different colors Navy and like I said she purchased one but I said to the sales associate associate that day I said I really have my heart set on the gold color with the gold Hardware again very specific and I'm not really loving any of these other color combinations they're really adorable but just not for me I think there was a green one as well and at the time she did not even bat an eye she was like okay if you're willing to wait we'll put you on a list and it may be a little while but if you're patient we'll give you a call and it was really only about three weeks later where I got this call so technically I did decline purchasing an Evelyn the first time again not as big of a deal because not a quarterback these are not as hard to come by not at the price point of a broken or Kelly but I guess because I was so comfortable doing that and I was very convicted to just stick with my decision I didn't I didn't feel any discomfort doing it again this time so I when I declined I said thank you so much for you know just going back there and finding one and showing me and um I really appreciate it but as you can see from the way I dress and my usual style and when I gravitate towards maybe I'm just not ready for pops of color and it we kind of laughed about it and again my sales associate who's known me for a few years now was like no problem totally get it was in fact like don't get it if this is not something that makes you really excited you know don't make a bad decision basically and I usually shop with sales associates who are like that I cannot shop with people who are pushy I usually like when my sales associate says you don't need this don't buy it I think it's just really honest of them so there was no reaction it was just very kind of neutral even Keel fine and then later I spoke with my sales associate before I left the boutique and we talked about you know what other bags might be you know considered and I was invited to come back so I can kind of play around with different sizes and styles because I I was like I'm a little bit confused sometimes I think I could go for a pop of color but clearly not that much of a pop of color um I also feel like I'm really happy with the sizes that I have now but could I go with something smaller meaning broken and Kelly but I don't want to overdo it so my sales associate knows that I'm not someone who buys like 10 bags a year I don't have a collection of a hundred of these at home I think that you know they've gotten a sense of how I am from the start with this mini Evelyn so we just have really honest transparent conversations and like I said no negative reaction I'm not worried about what might happen in the future and I'm really glad that I walked out empty-handed because that bag as pretty as it was was just not for me so let me know if you have any other around Hermes and I try to give as much information as possible from my personal experience so that it might be helpful to any of you and again this is just my personal experience so it may really wildly vary across the board depending on who you talk to but I've always had really positive experiences and I've always said know what you want and stick to it and don't feel like you have to be pressured into something that you don't want because this is a lot of money all of these bags are a lot of money and you should really get what you want and be able to enjoy them so that's it for
