flavor there is [Music] that you need to pay for that hey square body trucks who doesn't love them well that's a square body truck it's a series of Chevy and GMC trucks made from 73 to 87 and there's been a couple of them on the channel so far number one is the slam dually nightmare from last year and most recently the bag Suburban nightmare from a few episodes ago that was purchased to fix the slam dually nightmare from the year before and any square body Chevy owner will tell you if you've ever tried to restore one you'll need more than one as a matter of fact I've never seen someone that has ever only owned one square body trucks there's people that have owned hundreds that's just how cool they really are now the nightmare Julie was a lesson for sure I really thought this truck looked amazing in the photos but when it arrives well that wasn't the case necessarily well not necessarily it actually wasn't the case at all the thing was a piece of and if you started taking it apart we found more and more issues to the point where it would need a full frame of restoration which is fine then we actually shipped it down to the bare metal and found out it would need more than a frame off you actually need a whole new truck body all four cab corners were rotted the rocket were riding the roof was replaced before and started rotting and the floor was also soft because it was rotting the doors were warped the dually fenders were modified to fit the bullet side markers which looks terrible and the oems were covered up the only thing good on the truck was the frame and I used air quotes because the frame was also modified yes you can easily slap a new coat of paint body filler and maybe some expanding foam from Home Depot and call it a day but that's not how we do things around here that's what the first owner did and now of course we pay the iron price literally old truck plus water equals rust an improperly repaired truck plus water expanding foam equals you need a new truck so because I learned nothing I did it again thought with the wrong head to get parts to fix the truck by buying another truck and the new truck that I bought was also a pile as evidenced by the repair work to the rear now there was literally tape holding the truck together which made me question square body odors in general the ones I've had in my hand so far they were all kinds of terrible and they also weren't even cheap and a lot of channels would just scrap the project all together and never talk about it again but decided to Triple down the final level my last square body the k30 now the C30 was a lowered rear wheel drive dually truck the k30 designates the fact that it's four-wheel drive which is more helpful in the New England region that snows now this truck needs some work and it's going to serve as the donor between all three trucks every truck will be combined to make one kind of like Voltron [Music] and this one will be the ringleader the hnic of the truck Army now we all have interior pieces and trim fixing from the prior C30 the dashboard and engine from the Suburban I want to combine all them into one now remember the American Indians and how they would use the whole Buffalo after it's killed meaning they use the meat the wool the teeth literally everything well well actually got wool because they don't have wool but we're going to use all of the C30 because it's going to be Model D now the model D power Tesla is going to have the C30 frame that will be based on the square body fortunately the internet's not only home to Trolls but also many helpful people Steve on and I received numerous emails telling us about this mystery man that doesn't live too far away who happens to have over 400 square body trucks he's the literal Lord of square bodies and because I respect his privacy he wanted to do this interview in an anonymous way so we set him up next to a fern and had him backlit by a window so he's a shadowy figure like a murder mystery document Century this will protect him when we go visit him but never show his face now the sad reality is after sandblasting the last square body we saw the first square body originally purchased won't make the cut but you know what we'll make the cut ninja knives Kevin Kota has over 800 years of Technology compared to a truck getting 40 Years of rust Japanese handcrafted expertise that has gone to making the steel more precisely the amount of effort we put into restoring this rig just like we use aluminum Source from Tesla to build stuff chemical is only using the highest quality steel being Japanese steel crafted by generations of knife Smiths do you like ninjas where do you think they get their blades from these knives go through a 19-step process that takes several years from start to finish and they sharpen them to a fine single bevel Edge we're not going to waste food on this channel pretending to play Fruit Ninja because we'd rather eat it we're hungry and eat it we will in the Japanese style than we built last year because we dig their style so here's Steve on cutting and preparing vegetables for us to cook in the van because most people know he has a pension for knives and look at those knives look at them after this video go check out Cami code dot com says which we build to get yourself fifty dollars off but now let's go look at the final variation of the square body oh yes day two of square body ownership now if you have a square body No Matter What year no matter what's going on with it there will be a problem with it at some point this is a very old truck and um it drove fine yesterday but unfortunately today it was completely dead I replaced the battery just in case the old battery was showing signs of age it was probably from 2018 and just in case I replace it I even put a battery tender on the new battery to keep the voltage up because you know during the cold this is a big ass engine and even a battery this size might have an issue starting it that is green so it is showing that this battery is fully charged but when I go inside I'll show you what happens this is a badass truck by the way what was a badass truck goes on no start no start no start so that feels to me like it could be an issue with the starter itself so I'm gonna go underneath that's like my son's snow tube I deflated it because you know Daddy needs his stuff go under here okay this is uh there is some oil buildup in the transfer case no big deal not really hugely caked on but it's a little bit damp looking up for the starter that is the starter and it looks absolutely terrible it's covered in oil so why a starter is dripping oil makes no sense to me it makes me believe that there is an oil pan gasket leak this is the oil pan and yeah there's a leak right there something's going on with it for sure it looks like there's a leak on this side and it looks like the flywheel is just throwing stuff into the starter probably causing it to die so this stud looks like it hasn't been replaced in a long time if ever it's covered in Rust and all kinds of crap but either way there's also a gasket leak for the transmission pan as well I'm also going to go ahead and check a few of the grounds I'm going to look into the wiring harness diagrams to make sure that I'm not missing a ground somewhere maybe one of the grounds is either dirty or rotted but overall this truck is a pretty pretty clean truck I mean taking a nice back view of it this thing is it's a beautiful truck for sure okay so what I did was I went under the truck and I actually jumped the starter and the starter did kick over what I noticed is that when I try to turn the truck on the lights are very dim so I'm thinking it's a bad ground somewhere so let's figure that out I'm actually going to have a ground that goes directly from the negative terminal on the battery going right to the engine somewhere I got a decent ground there I'm also going to get another jumper cable and attach that ground to somewhere on the firewall as well to see if I get a kick off let's try this one more time turn it up ah the lights are turning on a lot easier now the Tone's a lot louder it's getting full juice let's try this out hell yeah brother you did it hear that foreign [Music] five that's impressive what do they put them all where are they all I don't know all right that's the most I could afford out of this one what's that let's take a look Jesus Christ you're saving mean I know there was enough stuff yeah they had devil stuff so what's that is this quadruple this is the most they could legally give you so you get diabetes yeah I know all right I'm Wilford Brimley and I have diabetes but does it tell us what how much it actually is it doesn't say but I'm assuming it's about it's pretty thick boy I'm Gonna Get You gotta get stuff truckers ready they get beef jerky that's what they do yes you know right here what what is it why is that legal why don't they regulate the prices of jerky Stephen honestly what do you mean they should subsidize that that's 20. look that's why they're still out here when's the last time you bought a piece of steak from from the grocery store because that's the way you have to look at it though it's not only are you buying steak yeah it's been cooked for you dehydrated yeah for your convenience right so the the premium is justifiable Stephen I could go to the 99 Restaurant and I can have a steak for less than that you could it's almost juicier that one does look juicy look at that those are thick boys it's hard to be sweating we'll try that like when you do the Homer Simpson finger dance I don't know why I do I know which one I wanted this is the best flavor there is man [Music] foreign it is yeah [Music] hmm how's the ice cream taste oh [Music] more cannabis up they deliver it apparent over here on the left really I will deliver it too yep what's up please where can we find the nearest dispensary try Stone gets stopped okay is what people really come here because it's more popular to go to a dispensary than oh Fame now for sure just because you're not into basketball for reasons I don't understand so it the Basketball Hall of Fame can't stand on its own it needs a plan B a Plan B Burger Bar why would you name a burger bar Plan B I mean isn't that for uh isn't that for uh the morning after when you I don't know anything about that had a little incident yeah you definitely don't know anything certainly yeah I keep mine in line I'm familiar this is this is glorious isn't it wow that's big see why do they paint it like orange though yeah if I was if I was a six-year-old driving by this I'd be like Dad can we go to the Planetarium that's what that looks like today [Music] that's more of a display I've been around that truck my whole life that's so cool man that's cool and then and there it says what's the deal with this truck right here it's a p P30 what is this uh yeah P30 Brahman GMC okay so it's uh Gasper I'm assuming yeah small block Chevy I got excited for it was a diesel for a second sorry I got excited are you looking at the wheels on this so what's the deal with this thing sitting here I don't think you'll ever sell it this is my brother's first truck he drove it when he got his license and then it was he four-wheeled it and then it became too bad for the road so yeah I mean tractor tires on it see he's got some uh some issues there oh it's a Chevy they do yeah they'll do that rocker panels got the one ton straight axle to put the tractor tires on it's a 6'5 Diesel with a mechanical pump and a Cummins turbo on it Marine injectors this is wild this is awesome I like this you guys even left the mud on it I respect that is that a common thing to when people just don't have roofs because the other Squidward that we have the roof was replaced on it too is that a commonly rusted area yeah Crew Cabs and Suburbans that one's 76. in the back you're gonna restore this one too what are you gonna do with this one huh I'm gonna fix this one for me this is nice oh I love that I love that yeah I would take this top off and just drive like this all the time these seats this is cool I think this is cool in our Bronco yeah I said it I said it is well everybody here is privy to a K5 this is called our Bronco this is oh it's a fat a lot rarer than a Bronco that's for damn sure it knows it too four to say yeah yeah I can't actually argue with it this is actually in very good shape for a first square body very very nice yeah this is a Southern California truck for a car 950 degrees Yeah it's grass mint yeah I like this the burnt orange color I'm not even mad it's color Cheyenne try again I should call her car so what do you think honest opinion I like the original paint yep I like your original stripe that's how you can tell it's original paint yep they do sell a reproduction stripe note it's like spot on if you wanted to put a new one on it okay it's not a bad body except this little thing right here and misleading these things here and there hey what's that removal guys straighten that right out here okay fenders aren't broken nope I don't like this rear bumper that's the factory bumper [Music] okay so these bolts are the giveaway for that there's actually an extra bracket out towards the end but it still has the original one thumb tailgate with the lights so it's a pretty original truck most part do you have any of these uh original three plus three badges and Silverado badges how often do you see those three plus three ones but they're not great that's fine I can just reuse this one I would just repaint them a lot of guys do if they're not pitted real bad yeah these are not fitted at all yep hardly I would just repaint the three and the plus sign fun fact 1991 GMC only GMC's the plus sign was a different color yeah 1991 only all right don't mind yeah we bought it like that so as you can see yeah that's what happens yeah missing some channel uh trim pieces these only work if you if you hit them really hard that's a common thing I'm assuming yep but they will work shock you on the top shock you in the top yep so for this do you think it's better off finding the missing trim pieces and repurposing this or just getting a new door panel altogether depends on how nice you want it to be you can go a few different ways with it okay you can take this and I've used the December coat yep especially the blue the blue matches really well I can show you my dump truck I did my dump truck you can't obviously fix the worn part no or the chalkiness but I can sand it until it paint over it right you get the color back right you're just not going to get that texture back which is fine this piece is reproduced yep which is probably best to buy because they're always broken but if you try to save them off an old door panel they snap the tabs off anyways stuff like this I have lots of these that are oh you do um any reason why they use this the random self-tapping screws to kind of do that or this instead of just falling off at one point just the wrong screws okay supposed to be screws there but those are the wrong ones so they don't reproduce this piece for the rear panels only the fronts well thankfully I think the rear one's already in there uh yeah but those are hurting actually yeah rear panels yeah I might have because Suburbans obviously have a lot of Suburbans I'm a big Suburban fan right rear panels usually are in good shape okay and the Suburban around here because the interior is nowhere out around here so you send paint to repaint this but what about the actual fabric itself you paint the fabric or just pull it out and have it reupholstered I usually find good condition used ones and just clean them yeah or you can recover them in anything you want there's actually a plastic backer behind this yeah that bolts on but again it's like these pieces when you try to take it off they all break right because they're brittle yeah it's 40 year old plastic it's just gonna break my next question is the person that owned this before had a aftermarket stereo in here did these are there speaker grilles in here nope no so how did they how do you play music in these uh the speakers in the dash and speakers behind the seat oh that's it see if they're there it should be right in the corner there oh yeah it's right there yeah it's amazing how you know they weren't exactly audio files were they because that speaker's literally behind a seat where someone's like yeah yeah I guess you're right yeah bad sound but it's not great and then yeah if they're close with oh yeah look yeah this is they were I thought it was just like a Western Truck where they were trying to make it look sexy but they're recovering something up as they all are original seat it's the original cover original seating card so this is a pretty original truck then it is a pretty original truck I like that there's not a lot molested on it okay molestation's bad The Choice Award in case you were wondering how about the headliner headliner well your board isn't still in good shape it looks like yeah and you can buy the fabric on I buy it on eBay yeah you're going to clean it really good you want to get all that old glue off of there I usually take like a wire brush and just carefully clean it off okay spray it down with high temp adhesive glue and then glue the new stuff on I'm assuming that on all the trucks the lower metal Dash trim matches the color of the truck yeah so why is this here this looks like it's been it's shifted I'll have to look over and see but it looks like it's been shifted and it's not doesn't line up correctly why would that be the case well is it aftermarket the gauge bezel is the wrong year for the truck so to replace the gear but the bezel 89 to 91 they went with a one and a half din radio yeah and that's bigger yep so the bezel that would go over that would cover that side of the so they've replaced the bezel yes with the wrong one that that bezel was out of like a 82 81 to 83 truck because let's see what a headlight switch is yes oh they caught a big thing in it there's a square hole above it and a round hole below it yeah the square hole above it would have been the wipers yep because 83 and down the wipers are still on the dash yeah but now it's yeah no force on the stuff so you can tell that that's the wrong gauge bezel and that's probably because they did have an upgraded stereo system in here there was a camp we found the camera Kenwood thing yeah instructions so they screw why do people screw up like that why did they I don't know they always do that it's like let's just honestly tell you like that crew cab that I got inside yeah it showed up here it had a 1994 steering column in it really doesn't even belong doesn't even fit but they made it work because that's what they had I guess so and they just out west they drive these trucks until they just they don't I mean if you put a trim piece over that and a different radio you wouldn't know is this original to the truck so for the carpets now I mean this is this really is original theme look at this this is all blue but not so faded so the people normally just buy new carpets from like whatever company on the Internet or they just yeah or do people repaint them or just like you know shampoo and call it ones are pretty good quality like ACC makes a really nice fitting carpet for these trucks with padding and stuff like that so if you wanted to give it more color and make it more vibrant that's the way to go yeah vibrant's good let's just say that's the only it's good condition it's just fade it really is I mean there's some stuff that's available and there's just some stuff that's not available and you know you try to use as much I mean personally I try to use as much OEM stuff as I can right condition OEM because I like I like Survivor trucks right sure I'm building one that's a brand new truck but it's going to be a brand new truck I'm never going to drive it I'd rather drive my Survivor trucks because I don't have to worry about if they get scratched right like I have a few that are survivors that I'm building and I just that's what I like I like original paint because repainted stuff is never the same no it's not it's never strong it doesn't hold up as good it just never does which is what killed me about this truck you know I have a theme that I go with all the time I paint everything gray and I'm almost like I almost like this truck enough to keep it the same color I would keep it it's a survey it looks so good it really it really does yeah with the imperfections that it has it's it's a surviving truck you don't see this very often no you don't and me getting it shipped far far away yeah right yeah it's a cool truck oh thank you all right so then the two-tone if it was a solid color I'd be like yeah pink but the fact that it's true yeah right probably remove the Pinstripe but maybe just get a nice line and just have a two-tone without the Pinstripe in the middle right A lot of people would put new stripes on but as you can see it starts here and it tapers down to here right and then it tapers down even further when it drops down right so a lot of guys will put one that's the same width all the way down and then all the way down and so how about those cab lights is that those original smoke cab lights back in the 80s I'm kidding I'm kidding yeah I know have you done this before once or twice all right what do you think about the injury Bank the coolant reservoir I already know other than that it's fairly unmolested okay it's time of the day yeah you keep you keep saying well it's a good term every 16 year old kid in the world thought they could wire things and change things right it's amazing because this looks like it's not oh yeah you got some wiring in there that's not OEM but not a lot okay not not as much as I've seen in the past I mean they added some circuit breakers and stuff for certain things but yeah still got all the AC stuff intact it's a nice truck I do want to remove these though 90 or 91. this truck yeah supposedly it's an 89.99 um has a couple minor things that are slightly different but mostly in 91 they went to electronic speedometer so that's like one of the big giveaways okay and one of the only options that was available in 91 it was the very first year that they offered a 4l80 transmission so you could get a 4 led a square body with an np205 transfer case behind it and the adapter is like a unicorn I've only owned one really that's how rare it is yeah okay so they're they're not common not at all I want to remove these am I being a jerk for that I don't like these at all you're not gonna like it without them if you're that bad with the rain yeah really yep what if I never open the window the longevity of the truck you want to keep it was like Chrome eyebrows now I don't like it but he's right think of it this way I mean what would that do rust-wise too if you have that just water it right yeah yeah I have to sand it down fill the holes yeah and a lot of a lot of the rust issues in the roof of a crew cab come from people doing bad Body Works and Body Works coming back through and then the water gets in there and in between the two panels it just starts rusting from the top down we might know a truck or two that has that issue [Music] for the rear glass this is an oem I mean they had the slider yeah the original slider but there's no handle for it it's a crappy clip on the inside it hooks it on the inside and it breaks off yeah sure I had the same one no I remember that okay I guess the color stays oh yeah the color stays yeah I'm pretty sure everybody in the comments will be yelling at us if we change this yeah Steve and I were talking about this this kind of like faded like high-res Amber is that normal yeah they had shaded windshields okay well I wasn't sure if that comp because on most cars now it's like a smoke color uh a lot of them are blue it depends on who made the windshield at the time yeah this windshield could have been replaced at one time so it's got a little different tinting in the top right common thing for them to be shaded yeah we were liking it to like you know your your 70s 80s pairs aviators having that kind of tint to it more like yeah it goes with the arrow you know and then uh that gauge has it always been blank what's what's normally here as an option no it would the other option would be a clock okay or if the truck had a factory tachometer the tachometer would be where the fuel gauge is and there would be a small fuel gauge in that spot this this is my first time holding an older uh dually Square bot like not actually not let's just say that's not that's slightly not true this is like the force yeah yeah forgot about that for a second yeah gas mileage dude it's got to be in like the eights or nine It's gotta be they're not great I was smiling until I stopped to fill it up I guess yeah I got two tanks for a reason that seat yeah that's it everybody's Justified that's it everyone's ready yeah this could fake I don't really see very often the four-wheel drive that's a very regular cab dually four-wheel drive is very not that's a very rare spec for sure so these were original door panels that I cleaned and then repaired oh these look good those were probably in the same position that yours are now so this is and I see what you mean when you say it's if you sand it let's move it down you're not gonna have the texture as long but that's okay it looks clean though it does look necessarily sand it what I did with these is I took like super clean and I scrubbed it with Scotch brake teeth it'll take the chalkiness off right but it'll leave the texture that's still there so this is the same color as this truck pretty much we have the one okay what do you think about converting to crank windows I hate the electronic windows for relay wiring or you can wire it yourself um so what happens is when you put the relay in there yep Factory these windows they put all the load on the switch and then as it runs through the switch going to the motor it loses voltage it turns up the motor because it's getting older so if you put the relay in there it takes all the load off the switch and it keeps the same voltage going to the boat there are a lot of kits for the headlights and that'll change that'll shave five seconds off of how long it takes to the window to go up seriously it's not so much of how long they take like it'll make them faster right sure yeah but it'll make the switches and the motors last longer right because yeah sure so this is a short bed with one tongue two wheel drive suspension in it okay and I did that because I wanted it to be eight Lug because I have a special set of wheels off of a 1977 GMC surge special edition yes what is that I don't know what that is they only made them one year and as soon as I can figure they didn't make very many of them okay so I have a set of those wheels so I made it eight Lug so it's a short bed because the bed is for Mexico it's factory bed the dashboard is right hand drive from Australia I see that converted the cab the hood is a hook hickey Enterprises fiberglass drop Center Hood from the 70s okay and it's being built as a 73 GMC so are you going to paint this or just leave it to calip the kind of not sure this reminds me of the uh it's been collection pieces what Volkswagen is that Steve Harlequin the Harley Quinn yeah yeah this reminds people have this one so how many trucks are currently putting this together right now six oh that's so cool the frames from one truck yeah rear axle front suspense rear axles from a different truck front suspensions from a different truck fenders weren't for the truck I got those they're new the doors came from another truck cabs came from another truck probably closer to nine trucks yeah they've done some off-roading in this thing it seems they did yeah one mud bogging yeah I could I could tell that's what it was built for yeah these won't sound fun on the highway nope but that's my favorite Tire ever made about it [Applause] what do you think of that rose-colored tint for some reason for some reason I like it it's sick I think it's awesome because I know the purple the crack and purple yeah no it actually looks kind of this looks proper here yeah it actually kind of like I did too yeah I like this I'm not mad at this thing at all well I just got schooled on Square bodies for a good hour or so and for the first time in forever I'm actually feeling pretty good about this purchase even he approves of it the mystery man who asked for men Anonymous was referred to by several people on the internet so thank you to those that sent me this load of square bodies and you know what I want to be the Lord of something or just be a lord thankfully established titles will enable me that magic it sounds fancy and when I went on the page I saw they give you a square foot of land on a private estate in orderly aberdeenshire in Scotland and I hope I pronounced that right which grants me the right to be of lordship I get an official certificate with a Crest a unique part of land number and they plant a tree with every order to help offset my carbon footprint inducing self and after re-watching Game of Thrones for the fourth time I think it's time I've taken more seriously check out the link below to make yourself feel such greatness now they can officially change my name to Lord or lady and get it on my credit card playing tickets and tell random people about it and even change my dating profile to increase the odds of a potential new match so the square body it seems like I finally bought a decent one the lord of the square bodies sold me the parts to repair the interior panels as well as the rear tailgate what do you guys think about the truck overall and my next question is what engine should it get should it get the 6-0 out of the Suburban or should I keep the old school 454 but with some upgrades either way let me know in the comments section and I will see you all next week
