luke here with the cat fishing carp youtube channel and today i'm catching 100 catfish and i ain't stopping this video until it gets done all right guys it has been an eventful morning oh man my engine's been giving me trouble we're off to a rough start this morning my engine's been giving me a load of trouble and it broke down last time i used it i think i've got it fixed and when i was launching the boat my pontoon boat came off the trailer prematurely and landed right on the sensor and smashed up the bracket really good i've got it jerry-rigged and hopefully my uh fish finder's working well first things first i gotta find some bait and where i find the bait fish will tell me a lot about where i'm gonna find the catfish let's go get some shad it's a ten foot neck 5 8 inch mesh nice common carp that is a decent crappie now both of those make decent catfish bait but the crappie's not allowed and the carp is not as good as gizzard chad i think in the dead of winter like this when it's really cold the fish aren't really eating much they just huddle up in these schools in these wintering holes and just wait it out and so you'll see big piles of carp crappie bluegill gizzard shad catfish just in these different pockets and they all kind of have their spot that they like to hang out i'm going to keep looking for gizzard shad you see right here where they're a little more spaced out i think those are probably panfish of some sort my fingers are so frozen right now another nice white crappie that's a school of fish right there look at all those crappie man look at look at the size of these crappie oh these are all huge oh this is a two-handed job look at the size of that beefcake and it's just white crappie everywhere well i missed the school of shad but i hit it stalker oh yeah first catfish whenever you're gonna find shed you're gonna find catfish nearby that one doesn't count whoa look at all those fish big pile of shad right there that's a school of shad right there we're gonna let some of these guys out we do not need this one baited we still got a ton now that is the shad that's a big boy too we had a big massive shad die off last winter so i'm letting the big ones go because they're kind of rare now let's go find some catfish the wind is nasty here so i'm trying to pick a spot a little bit more sheltered kind of chasing a few signals on the fish finder and see what happens if i don't have a fish in the boat by 15 minutes i'm gonna reel up find another spot 15 minutes are up and i haven't landed a fish so i'm gonna get out of here all right here we go there's one we've had about six good bites but only one fish in the boat not too good for 15 minutes of fishing i think i'm going to call it and go try another spot just getting ready to leave and number two hit two catfish eight pounds let's get out of here [Music] first customer all right well it started off exciting but it's uh been about 15 minutes it's my last fish and i think we're gonna pick it up and try another spot a nice five pound channel catfish i'll put him back my 15-minute alarm is going off and just got hit look at the colors on this guy it's almost like a people catfish two pound channel cat oh it's a very nice channel catfish all right there we go look at a little guy heart of a champion put the other oh that's heavy that's a chunky fish 22 pounds well i'm getting a bunch of bites but it's dark and very cold and i need to get home and get some dinner and so i'm gonna see you guys tomorrow it's been two days of snow and ice but let's go fishing well i went to go pull the boat out and the car is dead and this is keeping with the pattern of this video we've had a lot of technical issues and i jacked up my arm really bad this is just another one of the little hiccups in our challenge i'm getting too old for this i'm going home and charging my battery this video has been fraught with setbacks i threw my back out really bad the other day and i have now been laid out for two days now we're gonna rest and hopefully by day three i should be able to be up and about for the first time in two days i'm walking but i don't think the ice the boat ramp is melted but i should go lay down some more oh well the ice is gone and my back is strong so we're gonna give this fishing another go unfortunately it's a bit flooded so before i can launch the boat i've gotta move a bunch of logs ah my power term is not working oh the battery's dead one of the internal lights was left on for days and the battery is smoked dead all right back to the house well i got the boat battery fixed and i figured out who turned my light on and drained my battery apparently i left a shad in the boat and a raccoon got inside and there's little raccoon prints all over the buttons on my console and on my seat so uh i think that's what happened oh it iced up again overnight i got an idea well we got the boat launched now we need to break on through to the other side of the ice [Music] oh my engine's dying that's not good yeah i'm getting gas son of a gun so i've taken the gas can from the pontoon boat and i've put it in my skiff here this engine croaks out on me then i know i've got a gas problem and that'll be easy to fix oh my transom saver just broke that kind of day i got the engine to run but only with the choke on so what that tells me is i've got contaminated gas [Applause] all right the engine's running at full power the fish finders working let's give it a go with 36 degree water everything is going to be smack dab on the bottom of the water a lot of you guys might have noticed that i'm fishing with slightly different rods in this video this right here is the whisker seeker tackle catfishing carp signature series rod and i've been working with whisker seeker tackle for most of 2020 to develop this rod and there's two versions there's the spinning rod version which is the medium light and then there's the bait casting version which is the medium heavy light look at how he's bending that rod the wind is howling we're dragging two 28 pound acres jeez i gotta reel everything up and re-anchor well i re-anchored the boat and the wind pulled me about a hundred feet in five minutes so i mean i just can't do this four channel catfish at 18 pounds spent several hours trying to find a spot where i can hold anchor and see fish on the fish finder it's just not happening i'm gonna call for today look at that school of shad right there the ship was not two weeks from shore went down on her right whale bore captain called all hands and swore he take that whale and toe soon may the weathermen come to bring the sugar and tea and rum one day when the tonguing is done we'll take our leave and go we're getting lots of nibbles but not that many hookups only got one fish in the boat i think we might pick up and try another spot [Music] the water temperature is only 38 degrees right now the catfish are so sluggish it's having a hard time telling when they're on the hook all right yeah look at this do you think that counts you bet it does putting that one in the bag i'm getting most of my action over there so i'm just gonna go and turn the boat facing into the wind and anchor over there a little bit oh we got a double catching this beast on that little rod was as much fun as catching a 30 pounder on my big rods another one there we go had three catfish on at the same time all right well just slightly repositioning the boat did the trick we've been here about five minutes and we got five six fish in the boat there we go ah the fish wrapped himself around the anchor line and i was thinking about adjusting my spot a little bit anyway so uh i might just pull up the anchor a bit well my keep that's so full i'm worried about ripping it if i pull it out of the water so i think we better uh count up the fish weigh him and let him go oh yeah oh gosh oh yeah oh 96 pounds okay one big one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 yeah i think that's about 20. i say 20. well that was a lot of catfish well this area in front of me is just still producing fish so i'm going to pull up anchor and i'm going to move about 75 feet 100 feet forward but we're going to try it again there we go well we're not tearing them up but we're getting bites put you in the keep net all right all right there we go there we go well it's getting late and i think it's time to call it for tonight i'll pull out the fish count them and weigh them oh that's heavy 33 pounds one two three four five six 27 fish today it's not bad 129 pounds of channel catfish is that what we did yeah i gotta look at the tape but oh finally got some decent numbers in the boat and nothing crazy happened but i'll pick this up tomorrow morning you know yesterday how i told you nothing bad happened i should have knocked on wood because on my way back to the boat ramp must have hit a log or something because i bust my fish finder sensor off ah so i've got to order a new mount for that and it's going to take some time so in the meantime i think i've got to use my little boat here so when your wife asks you why you need two boats now you know the answer let's go fishing come on get that bad gas out oh it's struggling all right let's go catch some fish he'll perk up when i started this challenge the water was bitterly cold and the fish were flat on the bottom and now we've had several days of good weather in a row and the water temperatures popped up to 40 degrees and the catfish just aren't in those holes anymore all right which means they're more active they're out feeding which will be a good for the fishing but we've got to figure out where they're at and my guess is that they're sitting at about 15 to 20 feet of water there's a nice school of shad right there two throws of the net we got plenty of bait well i'm thinking about hitting the same spot we did so well in yesterday it produced a lot of fish but we tapped it pretty hard so i don't know if it's ready to produce again but there's a lot of bait fish sitting in that spot so i think we should give it a try but we don't see numbers pretty quick i think we should pull up and try something else but putting the hook point in the gut pouch and out the belly really prevents the hook point from turning back on itself and getting stuck in the the bait first fish of the day well i've been here about 30 minutes and we've had one fish in the boat and a few bites and that's about it so i this really is feeling like this is a bit tapped out i've been here about 15-20 minutes and not a single nibble not a fish nothing i am shocked all right i've anchored up in the mouth of a river that's a little bit warmer than the main body of water so i'm hoping this is where all the catfish are going to be see that circular scar that looks like a lamprey bite maybe three four pounds yeah not feeling it here we're gonna pack up try another spot oh goodness this is definitely a bigger fish oh oh you're kidding me man we've gotten some big hits there might be some big blue catfish in here oh look at this too look at this hit over here yeah see look at that there are some oh there must be some big blue catfish floating around here i'm going to put this rod to the test i've got 20 pound braid but it's kind of old so i'm not worried about the rod i'm worried about the line busting come on chunky blue on that medium light catfish rod you can catch big cats on those little rods 27 and a half pounds that's a lovely blue catfish let this guy go but it's getting cold and i can't feel my toes and it's going to be dark soon so i think we better call it for today there you go got a big school of shad and you notice that they're higher up in the water column they're sitting at about 18 feet yeah each day as the water gets warmer the school of shad is getting higher and higher up in the water column oh we got bait look at that let's let some of them go we don't need all that all right got everything we need in one throw that's not too bad so the key to fishing in the wintertime is finding out where the catfish wintering hole is and where the catfish are in relationship to it now we got onto a pretty good wintering hole two days ago but since then i've been struggling to find a new one so what we're gonna do is we're gonna try a number of different places and pop and move until we find it not much going on here so i'm going to reel up and try another spot oh oh that is a nice channel catfish i think that's a 10 pound channel catfish right there oh look at that holy mackerel look at this this is a serious fish oh this is so much more fun with this rod than my big rods oh i need a bigger net oh holy mackerel oh i can't get him in the net oh okay oh jeez oh look at this thing oh where's my scale 48 pounds better put him back my back hurts i got 40 pound braid a quantum acura's 53 low profile reel and i've got this whisker seeker catfish and carp series rod just handled it beautifully and it was so much fun so much more fun to play than if i had my big rods that's why i say these are a versatile rod they can handle anything small or big my line went somewhere i didn't send it oh yeah oh he popped loose when you have a fish on like that and then it lets go what it means is he has just chomped down on the bait not the hook so i am going to switch this up get just a slightly smaller piece the fish well see look at that big old catfish right there catfish coming right there right on that rod there we go look at how purple his lips are you see the mud on his belly where he's been down in the the muck and he's got a leech on his fin little bumps they get on him are little skin parasites he's been down in the muck feels like a seven pounder all right oh there we go five six pounds whew that is a healthy eight pound channel catfish i think that's gonna be the last one of the day it's getting late and i'm cold so we're gonna call for today but if my calculations are correct i think we're halfway done with our challenge well we had a bit of rain since the last time i went fishing and we've got some flooding here warm rain can increase the water temperature a lot better than a sunny day so uh we'll see we might have some decent water temps today school of shad at about 15 feet you see they're all piled up against that shell everywhere i go the shatter hanging right at about 12 15 feet it was a bit of a three-ring circus getting the net out in this wind but we did it that'll get us going oh my fingers haven't been this cold in years oh my goodness all right let's go find some catfish i'm here at the mouth of a river that's about a degree and a half warmer than the main body of the the water and there's a nice little channel here that's about 15 to 18 feet deep so i'm going to anchor here just kind of see what happens that little dot right there is my lead and bait watching a few catfish come up and sniff it oh look at that oh here he comes he's coming back he's coming back that one yeah that's about a six pound catfish not too bad four or five pound channel catfish not bad at all spot isn't horrible i've had two fish and three or four serious bites in the last hour but it's not really the level of activity that i'm hoping for so i'm gonna pick up and try another spot all right i'm in that spot where i caught that 48 pounder but i'm anchored up a little bit differently so i can try to access some shallow water over here too if i want he was in the shallow water man he feels like he's seven pounds olivia's coming up he's coming up to it i saw him do it with all the shad so shallow i was wondering where the catfish would be down here in 35 feet but they still are oh that is a big fatty hey huge there we go big healthy channel yeah oh these rods are so fun well we've been in this spot 45 minutes and i've got what six seven fish in the boat already so not bad at all oh got another catfish right on my bait here we go hang out with your friends this catfish has two leaders coming out of his mouth and i recognize that leader oh there you go there you go nice channel you know if you're wearing a pair of overalls that can get nasty putting the catfish between your knees to get down the throat really makes it easy to unhook them this pizza tastes kind of like shad i'm not sure why well i've been hammering this pretty hard for the last two hours and it's definitely slowed down the bites i am getting are all down this way so i think that if i just move the boat down a good 50 70 yards then i might be able to pick up another sweet spot well let's see what happens just letting the wind take me downstream this spot is dead quiet we've got maybe one nibble in 20 minutes we're out of here oh reeling up to get out of here and we got one on the line all right let's see what we got in the net wow oh 60 pounds all right all right guys so that's 12 fish 60 pounds all right let's go try another spot before it gets dark nice little pocket of shad right there right at 12 15 feet another pocket of shad right at 12 15 feet on the top of a ledge look at that another nice pocket of shad right at the top of a ledge well the shad seem to be congregating at the tops of ledges that plateau at that 12 to 15 foot depth mark so i'm going to go around to my wintering holes and i'm going to look for the nearest plateau that comes up at 12 15 feet oh oh i just broke my seat deal with that later all right there we go we got two fish on at the same time over here that is another big one this is like fish number five or six i don't think we've been here 15 minutes it's a nice fish and he just put himself into a snag oh busted my line every one of these channel cats is just huge oh there we go now they gotta fight these guys aggressive to keep them from going straight into the into the logs there we go oh we got a serious fish here oh i haven't seen him yet but he's big oh he's acting almost like a flathead man i've never caught a flathead in the winter i've got i've got a double oh he's ain't fitting too well oh geez all right we need to deal with this guy too okay oh i am loving these big catfish on those small rods that is so much fun 40 40 pounds you know i'd lost a fish on a snag in that spot earlier so i was hoarsing that fish that rod did a great job hey check this out two of my hooks in there i told you i had a big fish that broke off earlier there's the hook well i'm glad i get this hook out of him hate leaving hooks and fishes oh there we go another nice blue catfish 22 pounds oh i'm about to lose the last of my light i really don't have the equipment to film at night so i'm gonna pull up my gear and we're gonna call for today but what a day it's been gosh this is heavy 50 pounds whoo look at that it's a monster channel [Music] catfish i need to fix this and i do not have time today oh well as i'm getting ready to go fishing again i realize i got a little bit of a problem i'm not 100 sure how many fish i've caught so far my best guess is 75 but i i i wouldn't bet my life on that so um we're gonna have to go back through the footage to figure out how many fish we have well it's about nine degrees warmer than yesterday it's calm it's beautiful the water's down from the flooding it's gonna be a good day today oh my engine just died what is wrong oh that'll do it [Music] all right well yesterday i got the most action anywhere i could find structure at the same depth that the shad were holding which was about 13 to 15 feet well the shad are holding at about 15 to 18 feet this morning so let's go find some structure at about that depth one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven i can see 11 catfish on the sonar look they're just waiting for us to get some bait to those hungry fellas ah here we go first customer of the day all right in the bag this one's a little nicer there we go oh he's in a snag this is where monofilament really makes a difference mono's much better at pulling fish out of snags and braid oh he was wrapped up in there too oh that one ripped some drag you can see there's just hardly any mud left on his belly so he's been he's been moving around a bunch some steady action here but a couple of these rods just haven't been doing much so whenever you notice that one of your rods is just eerily quiet check your bait recast it out yep my bait was gone all right um you feel he's pushing nine ten pounds let's get you in the bag oh another fat channel yeah oh that's that's a big one on buddy oh yeah 23 pounds 23 pounds looks close to the one i had yesterday but no hook marks on his left side so different fish a beauty there we go well this has been a great spot but it's starting to slow down i think we need to go find something else we're going to pull up the keep net and weigh up our fish oh that's heavy 52 not bad for only eight fish don't have to go home but you can't stay here i'm looking for a ledge that goes from 15 feet down to about 30 feet with something with a little bit of interesting structure and a lot of bait fish we'll see if we can't find something like that all right there's some good signals here but let me show you the feature it's a 25 foot deep hole and a 15-foot trench that comes into the hole i'm right there on the cusp of where the trench meets the hole this will let me bomb out my my gear to a lot of different spots and let's see if it produces any fish oh hey tom i just got a big [Music] oh big hit oh my goodness a catfish just hit the rod so hard that the rod tip went underwater [Laughter] allow me to put you on hold for a second tom i've got i've got someone on the other line oh jeez 42 you don't want to take the fish out of the water for too long so after you unhook them you put them in the bag let them rest and then you can take pictures with them oh well that was nice let's see if we can catch some more well i was hoping to get more numbers today but when a guy catches more than 110 pounds of catfish in three hours you can't really complain too much oh look there's another one right oh that's a big one look at that that's that's a blue it's moving the boat with the anchor how am i gonna get this out of the rod holder oh all right buckle up buttercup this rod is just muscling these 40 pounders this reel's doing really good well too for being a bass reel come to my net not as big but man he ain't small he bent that rod over that's a nice blue right there he is 20 pounds on the dot here you go well i'm catching them but at this rate my fingers are going to be grated cheese by the time i get to 100. am i complaining because my fish are too big no that doesn't sound right i got two blues right here and i got that channel catfish out there so i'm gonna pick up my rods and reposition a little bit and try to get more rods over on this side of the boat man i'm missing my seat my back's killing me oh there we go you know you're getting old when you're grateful for the little fish a little three pounder four pounder some of the best catfish in my life is on warm winter days and over here too nice double i was just thinking about needing to move spots ah there you go another good healthy six pounder dealing with this beast so here we go nice channel catfish this sucker is about 10 pounds a lot of people think it's a blue catfish because of the bluish color but if you look at the anal fin it's round and short there we go all right nice little six pounder healthy channel catfish let's call it six pound i'm kind of losing count of how many fish we got think we're 17. we go little little three pounder there i keep thinking this hole's done they keep popping out more fish there we go this spot is deceitful it just keeps trickling fish out one at a time i think if i sat here i would catch at least another four or five fish we just can catch like six or eight more fish we'll bust 100 today i want to do that so bad i think i'm going to move spots i don't want to crawl across the finishing line i want to sprint let's go find another spot every time just inhaled that where's where's the all right well i think this is number 20 for the day man if this thing isn't 10 pounds i don't know what it is man he's hefty well just one catfish in 15 minutes isn't cutting it for me i say we pick up a move there's a catfish on this one a little two three pounder is this fish number 21 or 22 today i can't remember she's been in the mud see look at that put him at seven pounds but we're losing the sun and i think we're gonna have to call it for today we're gonna get it tomorrow all right today's the day i can feel it we're doing this i got some good news last night turns out whisker secret tackle is going to put these rods on sale about the time this video is going to get published so i'm going to put a link to where you can buy these fishing rods in the video description and i got to tell you i'm excited i think i might want to get some more for carp fishing as well these things are awesome but i got a few catfish to catch so let's get to it well the fish are a bit deeper today look got a catfish there we go let's go get some catfish i haven't gotten a single bite here and the wind is just in my teeth so i'm gonna say we can't find a calmer and better spot look at that there's just insane amounts of bait down here there's lots of bait fish in the wind ain't crazy so let's give this spot a shot well i've been here about 15 minutes and really haven't seen much anything we're going to pick up and try another spot finally that's one for today we're fishing right on top of a snag you can see right there that's my my bait just a foot or two away from that snag when it's windy like this you can't see the fish hitting and so it's really easy for a fish to grab your bait and swim off into a snag you've got to be constantly checking your rods and resetting them and checking them and resetting them it's just such a pain oh that's a big fish i've got that big snag under the boat when i get him close to the boat i got to keep him up in the water column and keep a tight wrap on him or he's going to get in that snag look at the belly on these blue catfish they just gorge on shad in the winter time that's a nice fat blue catfish 22 pounds here you go let's get these rods back out oh this feels like a nice fish too man this might be the biggest channel catfish of the whole trip that this thing's got to be like 12 pounds 13 pounds that was close that is a wonderful channel catfish only the big boys are playing in this weather oh it's a flat head it's a big flathead too oh look at this oh we got a crazy double oh choppy out here i can't keep my camera 32 look at that beast there you go catfish number 100 that's a cherry on top oh my goodness i am super impressed with this medium light powered whisker seeker rod that catfish was right in that snag and i had to horse him and i had all the power i needed guys i'm gonna put a link in the video description where you can buy these rods i absolutely love them what a challenge what a great time i hope
