I got a package from Doug at Fleets Wood Shop. This intro will be one of the last ones my buddy Adam does for me. It's a money looser for both of us Cleaning the metal is important as it has greases on it. I use acetone to clean it I got this take I use from a local college. They were gonna throw it away. This blue is very pretty, but even better once I add onyx to it I pour these is separate cups so I can mix them better When I mix them it introduces air bubbles. I need to get them out. 10 minutes in the vacuum chamber does the trick The pressure pot does the rest I don't like using mold release as it plays hell when adding resin to a medium. As I looked at this I got an idea to make some of the segmented ring with the resin and metal This is corrugated plastic cardboard. I get it from a local sign maker Putting metal through your planer isn't a good idea Luckily I was getting ready to change the blades Man that looks so cool No worries I am mailing this blade off for sharpening also. This sled was made by Dave Gatton on his CNC. Go check his channel out It was easier to cut the metal piece than the wood. Less sawdust flying up in my face OMG this is super slow going I had to speed it up 10x I'm serious this takes forever. I bet you didn't see that coming. Let me know in the comments if you think a solid resin ring would look better. 5 min epoxy went up $2 in the last 2 weeks. ugh a brother can't catch a break The drum sanding is worth it's weight in gold when doing segmented pieces Ahhhh the old precision finger glue up. So let's start the fun part of turning resin and metal shall we? It actually cut really well. I did have to re-sharpen my gouge a few times though Oh I use it later on There were still some small air bubbles so I filled them in with Starbond Use Code MPC15 for 15% off I flipped it around to cut the other side. I'll even hollow it out a bit $10 says the biggest question I get will be "How many carbides did you go through?" The answer "I'm still using the ones I used." So the sound here squealed a lot, so I replaced it. How does it sound? I used 100 mph tape which is a type of duct tape in the military all the time. I almost plugged that hole with wood, but decided the resin metal combo looked better When using the Cole Jaws keep your speed down to around 600 rpm This paduk is very hard The sanding sealer helps fill in the small scratches on the resin Acks helps smooth out the sanding sealer and gives the project a smooth finish. You can order some at ackswoodpaste.com. Use moon15 for 15% off. Have I said I love Ob Shine Juice That bowl in the back ground is 12" tall and 15" diameter ambrosia maple I like to cut after each ring. It's easier to do the inside I wasn't planning on cutting this out like this, but it gave me a bonus ring I could use later I've used this 3" forstner bit so much I have worn down the side teeth. Well worth $20 off the Amazon. Man that sound. As I was turning I noticed a separation so I filled it with glue and sawdust. It's invisible after Starbond is the best CA glue I have used. Head over to starbond.com and use mpc15 for 15% off Here's that piece again. Worked out well It was at this point I showed the wife. Mistake #1. She decided she wanted it. This was the hardest part. I hate hollowing and metal is harder. Klingspor sanding discs are the best. Just thought you should know that. I had to make this stick sander to get inside the vase. Holy crap!!!!!! Look at that thing. Well there it is The aluminum resin and paduk vase I'm really happy..I was going to plug this with a piece of wood......blah blah blah. I told you this part already. It was extremely hard to turn the aluminum, duh right? I am extremely happy with this. The ring right here that came out of the center of this one I decided to use it right here. It just makes it pop Kinda like it's grabbing the blue aluminum. The light won't go through it. It's too think and the aluminum blocks it It's not exactly what I had in mind. Let me explain. I wanted the bottom to be an oval As I was turning it I realized I didn't make the bottom ring big enough. I'm okay with that, because the wife decided to call dibs again. I know every time Since she is claiming this one she will let me put up the last vase I did on the web site for sale If your are interested in that one head down to the first comment and click the link.
