I Built the ULTIMATE Outdoor CATIO for my BARN CATS

patio who came up with that idea cat patio yeah a catio I built a catio [Music] how you doing guys Chad here as many of you know we recently lost a couple of barn cats to Predators here at the farm it's been some tough times and then we had Maggie May Barn cat that gave birth to these Wicked awesome amazing cute little kittens but in today's video I wanted to share with you the type of enclosure a lot of people call them catios you know like cat patios for those who don't know what a catio is but really this is my workshop behind me and I locked the barn cats up here at night now rather than letting them free range on the farm 24 7 and I wanted to give them an enclosure or a type of play area so they won't get bored and they'll be able to get fresh air and whatnot come on let's go I'll show you what I did and then I'll give her the grand tour after I'm done explaining everything I started by pounding these spikes to hold the posts in place I put the two by six Frontage on as the holding plate for the roof trusses I then spaced out the roof trusses 16 inches apart getting ready to put the slats on for the roof panels I then attached the framing using pressure treated two by fours [Music] the one side of this Rod is going to be covered using barn board just to keep the weather out I needed to finish the framing on the front side too [Music] [Music] get ready for the tin roof I needed to install some slats across the trusses [Music] I just used some old Roofing panels that I had but the tin roof came together quite easily [Music] I had to cut around this tree as best I could I wanted to leave a little bit of a gap just for the tree to grow next there how did you get up there seriously how did you get up there I want to know how did you get up there I bet you he climbed up this Pole right here he climbed up because I'm not finished the roof and now he's up there Baxter what are you doing not supposed to be up on the roof bud are you two okay you're tired out oh you're gonna come and say hi Olive you're gonna come and say hi Oh you're peeing your pink okay keep peeing team fan oh you're all wet were you dunking your head in the water ah before you dumping your head in the water ah you're being a good big sister I used a one inch by one inch hardware cloth type fencing and stapled them on with heavy duty u-channel Staples foreign puppies sure loves keeping me company while I work isn't she just a cutie pie I've literally been out here working on this cat enclosure or catio I've been out here all day it's getting it's getting late and I haven't seen Dexter at least five hours now I'm gonna call him and I'm pretty loud and I hope he can hear me somewhere around but if I don't know where he is Dexter Dexter Dexter I'll see I'm gonna go back to work I gotta install the door right now and then it's completely enclosed in I just got to do some odds and ends and we'll see if Dexter turns up chunky where's Dexter bud where's Dexter I like using these kind of locks for the doors you know they're they're pretty durable okay we have a door Dexter that's why I get so worried about these cats even though I'm locking them up at night they still disappear they go far far away they don't just stay right around the farm area here they travel like I wish I could have like a real GPS like what you see in the Hollywood movies you know they can really like track them and to see where they go that would be interesting cat I mean if I call them like that really loud and he's far away it'll take them you know a good amount of time to get back to the farm and I've seen him coming back to the farm and he's panting already like and he's a cat cats don't pant but for sure he's so thirsty because he's traveling so far and it's warm today [Applause] hitting a signal on my phone Dexter been calling him for at least two hours now oh my god there he is Dexter what are you doing to me what's wrong man you didn't hear me calling he didn't hear me calling what are you doing Olive what are you doing under there get out of there out Olive out I see you you little stinker I see you little stinker what are you doing in that hole what are you doing in that hole huh that's supposed to be way under there you stay with me okay kid you stay with me Dexter how you doing Dexter glad to have you back I got a bunch of accessories here for this patio too so the barn Cats won't get bored they're just these sissile rope covered looking things and they mount to the wall and they kind of stick like that and then the cats can climb up and have fun and all that kind of stuff got this cool looking cat hammock these cats are going to be so spoiled I tell you I also got this thing and it mounts to the wall and it's like a little hammock type thing and it has like a little set of stairs so I guess you you mount this on the wall like this so it allows them to get up to the hammock isn't that cute it wasn't even that expensive they were like 16 bucks on Amazon [Music] [Applause] all right [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] this patio is attached to my workshop it's 12 feet wide this way and this way it's 16 feet wide and that's pretty good it's got a tin roof protect them from the elements I put a solid wall on this side with some barn board because I know that all of the rain and the snow come on this angle and that's going to really help them to not get the angled rain and the angled snow you know what I'm saying folks foreign [Music] it's all made with two by fours and two by six for the roof it's just a simple lean too that way all the water can head down I'll probably put some gutters on the front there catch the water and use a couple rain barrels I used one by one it's like a hardware cloth type stuff it's galvanized after Welding which is important and I mean it's a solid structure this is going to last forever [Music] what are you doing hey what are you doing Olive don't scare the cats on now [Music] [Music] [Music] look at Olive she sees the cats eating and she wants to eat too little stinker got the cute little cat door right there and then they can jump up climb on the tree sometimes they're doing that boom boom boom boom they got a nice little platform here or I could put a cushion if I like they got a little stumped to give themselves a little start there and they can go either up those stairs or those stairs go up these stairs it takes them to this little hammock and they can lie around in there and chill out over on this side it takes them to a little ledge with a little bed there and they can chill out there we got some stumps at different levels here you saw me install those so they can go boom boom boom boom and then they got these pegs making just get up on this top stump and then boom boom boom boom got a bunch of cat games with the little balls got some scratch posts this cool hammock right here that they can lie in if they wanna and they can climb up this log here and they can sit up on there and there's a bunch of climbing stuff for them so they won't get bored I also built this nice little feeding station it's covered on both sides there so that you know protects you from the wind and gives them a little privacy when they're using the litter box underneath they got their food which is some kibble right here they got a water jug they'll be the happiest cats in the world what I've done on the inside here is I've put logs just to you know prevent the cats from digging out oh Dexter what are you doing you can't escape there's no way to escape brother There's No Escape up there [Music] it's closed in you want to do some Pull-Ups [Music] Dexter get down you're gonna hurt yourself we've put a cloth kind of all the way down it's we tried to embed it in the soil a little bit to prevent any serious Predators from digging their way under also have this can here and that's where I keep their kibble [Music] [Music]
