what's up guys my name is Khan and we're back today with more scrap mechanic and today I want to put the magnet motor to the test we built this magnet motor last time and it's a really really strong well strong enough anyway you can see on the dyno we get it up to a decent amount of RPM you know 1300 I think is where it rests and if we actually run it through the dyno test it generates something like 700 600 newton meters of torque whatever 55 horsepower I think the peak we got was like a 70 horsepower system but either way I want to try and make a a second version of it I just want to make it lighter I'm going to make it out of plastic and light materials and then I want to try and make it Fly we'll strap two of them onto a plane rotating in opposite directions and I think they'll be able to fly quite nicely and actually I have a theory about how to make this rotate in another Direction I'm pretty sure if we just take these Center magnets here let's see if I can remove there we go it's kind of hard to tell with this pipe but yeah so if we switch these Center ones from south to North and then the north side to the South side I think now you can see the 3 three Norths that are lit up are gonna pull the South this way and now we're going to spin in the opposite direction and we do look at that but it's bad is it really ooh ooh see the problem is we got to make two symmetrical Motors and that's not symmetrical the other one was getting 1300 RPM the one way and this is only doing like 300 the opposite okay but hold on it's probably because we have to then reverse this as well right to negative 45. maybe that'll make sense let's try it is that right that looks better yeah there oh my God 14 yeah I think that's about the same okay 1300 perfect so we can make an identical engine all we gotta do is make one flip it you know put the thing and redo it so let's do that right now let's make it out of some really light stuff so we're gonna make two um I guess we could just make one and then flip it we need to put the controller in the middle though I want the weight to all be the exact same so let's just make one real quick and then flip it so we'll do something like this I don't know we're just gonna build it here I think that's too far already but doesn't matter and of course we got to do our uh our sensor ring all right perfect now we gotta set all these to color mode just so they can pick up the white side of the encoder now I was told by a lot of people in the comments you guys leave me some great comments I had I had asked the question about the wedges and uh the wedges colliding on the encoder wheel because I noticed a lot of people when they make their you know I'm just gonna look for wedge oops there we go perfect but yeah I noticed a lot of people when they make their uh piston engines they have their encoder wheel with wedges super close uh kind of like this like right flush up against it and a lot of people in the comments said that creations don't have friction with themselves they only have friction with other things so for example there's no friction calculation that happens between this block and this block that is that is what I'm told because they're on the same creation if they were two separate Creations there would be I honestly don't know I've never really like tried anything with it or looked into it but that's what I was told it seems to you know be fine in this configuration so I mean we could just leave it like that I could also just make this out of out of actual like full Corners I don't really know how much that matters or not but anyway it doesn't matter let's just do this get like that perfect done I had some people say too that this should be half on half off but I don't know if that's true because like you know we're we're repelling and attractive with magnets I could tweak that and play around with it on the dyno some more but I just want to actually like see if we can make a plane so I don't really care uh if this is absolutely perfect but let's just set it up the exact same way we had this because 30 800 RPM with enough torque I mean it was it was pretty solid right so to do that we'll put another bearing here in the middle of course and then we put the center core that spins and we can just do this like uh so we have these facing outwards there we go so that's our Center core no problem that goes like this like that and then of course we have to put our four extra outer magnet sets I'm not gonna try and put like a full case around this or anything we're gonna try to keep this as light as possible because again we are going to use the wings mod to make it fly so all we'll have is these magnets rotating a propeller and uh hopefully that'll be enough to generate enough speed to get this thing off the ground now we are going to use two so that gives us some Advantage but okay there we go we delete that now we don't need that anymore and let's just connect all this up around the outside all right so this should be good to go we're gonna call this a light magnet motor because it's a lightweight one and let's just do a quick test here so theoretically if we do this we go like this we put a switch into the uh the thing there we can set this to 45 degrees I don't know if this is the right direction or not it spins let's delete these magnets just so we're not accidentally creating too much lag the problem is is that the motors aren't really going to stay in perfect sync like you can see because the encoder positioned these magnets are lit up but it might not always be the same as like you can see these ones the bottom three um so you know we might just have to I think it'll be fine like I think it'll balance that enough but you just gotta watch out for that all right so there we go we swapped that inner core and we switch this to negative 45 degrees and we put this on a bearing and theoretically this should spin in the opposite direction oh no I don't want to power the controller I want to power this there we go so that should spin I honestly can't tell which way this is spinning hold on let's just put a big freaking thing on it oh boy I'm not having a lot of confidence with that spinning with oh is it an offset weight it is well that's cool just a little bit of offset oh it still doesn't spin very fast okay okay that's interesting does this one spin any faster I have a feeling I don't know whether the wings are light but like they still have to spin quick to generate Force right while they spin in opposite directions that's interesting what if I adjust this angle down is that the issue now oh so remember in the last video this is this is an interesting thing well we were doing this on the magnet Dyno I made adjustments to that controller which switches the encoder wheel to get it to 45 degrees but I did mention in the last video I was talking about what happens if you put it under load and if you put it under load like these are clearly faster at zero which is where I had like sort of measured the encoder to be originally like it makes the most sense that's so interesting you put a little bit of load on oh that one oh god oh no oh that is a problem I think this one tried to attract itself to that one and completely just just jammed itself off this bearing like a hundred percent I look like I can paint that oh no I can't okay well that's fine we can just put this on a lift I mean worst case here that's interesting though because the motor on the dyno way faster with that 45 degree encoder offset and now as soon as we put just even the slightest little bit of load on it then we need it back to that zero degree offset I mean it doesn't matter if it works these are these are opposite identical but opposite Motors so that's fine but uh just that's a that's a neat thing I I was not expecting that to be honest I did not think that would be a thing all right so the first thing we're gonna do we're gonna attach these uh bad boys together we'll put some wings in between them we are gonna have to deal with this load system later but let's just grab some big wings I'm not gonna try to make this like a super fancy plane I just want to see if we can actually make it Fly that would be really objective number one so let's actually do this and this will give us enough space to put another uh you know what let's just do it let's do it right in line there there we go we're gonna go like that we're gonna connect this to some chassis right here in the middle I'm hoping this will just like this will just be as easy as add some roll on the outside we'll go fly it but I don't know the the motors are definitely more powerful than the previous Motors it does concern me that the encoder offset is different from what we tested but that also brings up an interesting point where we're looking at the dyno because this was only 300 RPM in this configuration and it was 1300 RPM in the other configuration like when we had it um you know when we had it actually set with uh with the the proper encoder position that we measured I I don't know I don't know what to think about that to be honest I don't know how that would actually work when we start looking at like high-powered torque engines and how we can apply that so let me know in the comments down below I'm sure you guys have done a little bit more testing um with dino stuff than I have and I'd be curious to to see what some of the experts in the dyno Community have to say about that because it's weird to me that the torque changes that much um under load versus not okay so this one spins outwards if we wanted to spin outwards we need the prop to be like this right in that direction if we wanted to to generate stuff to generate these are fixed angle 30 degree props I'm going to start with three blades per we'll see how much speed we get out of that and then we'll go from there the interesting thing about magnet motors is they have no friction so you can see like there's no break on it so once the like it's always free spinning which is kind of cool obviously in real life the permanent magnets kind of keep things locked in position usually um when you don't have power provided to it although it's kind of funny with brushless you can kind of feel The Notches when you click past each magnet position anyway it doesn't matter all right here we go let's uh let's do this let's put in a switch here real quick right in the middle just uh there we go done and let's give this thing some power so if we provide this switch to both of these theoretically this should go forward it moves very fast why are we tipping down so much all right I'm gonna do this with the mod pack I don't really want to but honestly it gives us the best like response time for anything we can just put a single smart engine on it and call it a day with a little bit of logic um and yeah it's just it's just it's honestly the best way to make planes in my opinion so here we go we just take really simple we take one of these blocks math block we make it WS we hook this into there and then we go WS uh multiplied right by some static value that's gonna this is gonna set our angle right for what we want and then we feed this into our smart engine um so the Ws is going to Output one or negative one we multiply it by a math block which is our angle that we actually want oh that's what the heck weird oh that's a weird I don't know why that texture looks so weird I want to change the tick button apparently they changed the tick button now it is a different thing uh but anyway let's set 30 degrees I'm assuming the tick button still works the way it normally does that's weird that it has changed looks very different but anyway it doesn't matter uh so then this goes into here right like this and like so and then we also need to give one more um number going into this and that is the white number and that is the speed that we want the motor to move at so we set that to like 100. we press w we've got to flip this one there we go w tilt down s tilt up perfect easy that's really like that's really honestly the best way to make make planes uh yeah it's pretty quick and then of course we can do yaw as well with the same kind of setup um but with roll we could honestly just do it with a and d hooked straight into the steering so that's all kind of nice and easy so there we go we're just we're flat up just making the whole plate now originally I just wanted to test it but like you know it stuff happens so we're just gonna flat up make the whole plane um that should work maybe ish do a control check on that I'm gonna make these props bigger for sure at least one more uh blade on each one because they could definitely do that without hitting the ground if we want to put more blades on it we're gonna have to we're gonna have to give it a little bit more ground clearance but you know I think this is going to be more than enough it's interesting if you look at a real prop um this is kind of a bad prop blade because in real props you don't really want air being blown right at the engine like you'll have a little bit of air but you'll notice like the center of a prop right near the inside shaft is usually pretty cylindrical like it's pretty it's pretty smooth and then it gets more into a blade as it gets further out because ideally like the majority of the air that's going to power this kind of a prop plate is gonna be the air bypassing around the outside of the engine not the air going through the engine and then of course when you have like a turbofan or like a high bypass engine then you're dealing with you know 70 One Way thirty percent the other a little bit goes through to power the turbine gets the jet fuel added to it blah blah blah but the majority of the the cruising speed from the plane comes from the big turbine basically bypassing you know a bunch of air around the engine so these are really bad um you know they wouldn't we we really we'd have them a lot longer because of how big this engine is in diameter but it's scrap mechanic so we don't really care um I don't I think this is it like I think we're good to go let's do a control check a check D check oh one that does that two okay like I mean we're good right just does it fly now is the question I mean they're spinning I don't know if they're I don't know if they can generate enough speed I mean we could make bigger wings too also you guys might be like Carl why are you making a magnet plane I want to show you guys something real quick here is an old magnet plane I tried to make and it doesn't work I mean maybe it worked at one point but look at the amount of freaking propellers we had in here with all these magnets and these magnet motors these are all terrible it didn't work it's I look at all these extra Wings right so I'm trying to make a magnet plane that doesn't look like some weird flying carpet thing and actually kind of I don't know looks like a plane um we're probably gonna have to make more Wings here but let's let's try this one more time now we can actually turn oh there we go yeah so we can actually steer this thing I mean it drives well it drives like a car just doesn't have the speed like it feels like it should have the speed this is a good cruising speed if this was a plane this would be a great cruising speed it just doesn't have like I can definitely get the back out it just doesn't have the lift at all right let's give it a little bit more Wings let's let's really let's bulk up the front here we can do another set of wings in behind the first set and then if that doesn't work we'll uh we'll increase the thrust by putting some bigger propellers on it like we can just put a second layer of propellers but I don't really want to do a second layer of propellers I mean we could do an offset layer like a 45 degree offset but you know to make it eight props um but we should be able to do this with a four bladed prop no problem so let's just get a big airfoil and do this another set right here it cruise is really smooth I'm actually blown away at how symmetrical those those engines are without you know causing any major issues I don't think this is enough Wings though come on just just I need to like drop it off a cliff all right even with wider wings it just can't seem to generate the kind of speed we need to get off the ground I don't want to make the wings too much wider so let's see if we can generate more speed out of these engines let's just uh we're gonna double them up I don't really want to do this I could make it like with a controller in the middle but um I don't want the controller bearing to exist so if we just double up the props we'll get the same effect as if we added four more blades at 45 degrees but we won't have to actually have a controller there because I'm worried that if I put a controller on this it's just gonna be you know really bad I don't really like doing this but I I need to generate more speed out of these props and the RPM on the engines this might I don't know this might not work this might just load up the engine with too much resistance and then it might not actually generate the speed it needs magnet motors are tricky they're uh they're really heavy compared to you know a traditional piston engine or something so we really gotta gotta be careful with this but there we go let's try this see if maybe this will get us somewhere all right test with double props eight blades see I don't think it I don't know if that generates any more speed because now we're loading the engines up more so you're not really it's like that oh oh it wants to fly though hold on a minute hold on a minute oh oh oh let's go oh my God that's like barely like our stall speed is is yes our stall speed is is like like we can't pitch up if I pitch up it's still oh my God okay um we might need just a little bit more wings okay so we can fly like that's good but if I try to roll it basically stalls because okay let's see let's see here maybe I can just go oh maybe not okay never mind it has enough it has enough torque to basically pull itself straight up oh it's a helicopter oh okay cool well it works though that's ridiculous I can't believe it works okay we need we have a strafing issue here I need to put some vertical fins at the front because uh the only vertical fin we have to straighten us out is that back bin it's ground mechanic of course it doesn't calculate the air resistance on anything but the wing parts so um there's just yeah I need another fin in the front all right let's put another fit in the front I don't know if we're gonna be able to ever get this thing to take off on flat ground it might be too much friction with the wheels and stuff and the wheels don't have that much till but okay we are flying so let's just let's just put some vertical fins in the front here just to keep everything aligned straight just little guys this might actually work gloriously let's just do something like this there we go that'll help keep us aligned as we fly we'll just we're just gonna honestly use this as a takeoff spot we don't really like we gained speed quickly we get to no that's it's not enough interesting okay we got up at one point so how do we do that again almost needs like a Thruster or something it can't see it can't do it on its own come on just go up just take off just do it just do it just do it oh God it's it's like you know what we just need like five more wings if I make the wings just slightly bigger it could probably take off no problem but it is kind of interesting that this thing can fly vertically no problem because it has enough like it's generating enough lift it's basically like look we can go straight up and it still generates height so the only issue with takeoff is we don't have the straight horizontal speed but if our props we could make a helicopter easier than we can make a plate essentially that's kind of weird that works although with a helicopter we might need bigger rotors although maybe not because we're actually we're actually doing this completely I can't believe this works so well all right let's put just a couple more Wings on it we'll just extend everything out by one set now I gotta figure out how to tune this motor see this is the thing because the dyno told me that this configuration would be bad but then in practice this configuration is actually better than the one we had before so I don't understand yeah no that's that's good it doesn't like taking off on flat grout it's like the extra wheel friction and the extra ground friction is just enough to not give it the speed but as soon as we're up it's fine I just can't you see I just can't get it to go up no perfect yeah it's just it's too much friction but look as soon as it kicks up boom done as soon as we lose all that ground friction easy mode and then we can just go straight up I mean to be fair at least it's a working magnet plane the other one I had there with all that massive turbine stuff doesn't even work anymore so at least we're uh you know we are moving somewhere but uh let me know what you guys think in the comments down below it's it it I need to figure out the magnet motor thing I need to get back on the dyno and figure out you know why RPM under no load is different well I know why RPM under no load is different under load there's a load on it but like how to actually build something with a load test but uh yeah it's gonna be it's gonna be an interesting one to tweak you can see this is funny it's basically whatever we roll the friction from the ailerons is so much that it actually causes us to yaw the plane so we honestly need y'all to just counteract that but doesn't really matter we can fly at a bit of an angle until it levels up that's so cool but hey it works it's not great it's not fast it's silent it's very quiet the magnet motors are super super quiet and of course we can just go up like for some reason like we honestly should just build a magnet helicopter and maybe we'll do that at some point in time but yeah let me know what you guys think in the comments down below make sure of course you hit that like button hit the Subscribe button uh let me know what other kind of builds you want to see in scrap mechanic this thing is it's pretty cool I'm impressed that the Magna Motors work but I I'm a little disappointed that they don't have uh well I've a little disappointed that I had to use two props like two sets of blades I mean we could do it with like an eight that's offset but you know it it yeah it is what it is but yeah let me know what you guys think in the comments down below hit that like button hit the Subscribe button and uh as always I hope you guys enjoyed this video and we'll see y'all next time once we're up that's all we need once we're up it's perfect really really good thank you
