that's not good [Music] have you ever had one of those wheeling trips where it just doesn't go like you planned in your head you've got a certain idea of what today is going to look like and then you get there and it just doesn't look like that at all this video is a perfect example of that what's up guys today on dirt lifestyle we're going to play a game called dirt my friend franz and i came up with it um we wanted to come up in the woods hit all the rock piles up here at tahoe and we wanted to turn it into a game and some sort of like a competition between myself my friend franz and kelly with muddy beards so join us buckle in this is going to be awesome hopefully nobody breaks but we'll see the rules for this game are just as simple as you think they are one of us will take lead and we'll try to pick out a route that'll give the other two a hard time but it can't be so hard that we don't make it when we're trying it if either one of the other two can't make it they get a letter once they spell dirt they're out but as the leader if you pick out a route that's too difficult and you can't make it up yourself then you get a letter all right gentlemen who's going first franz you want to go first this is a pretty good one i've had a time where i couldn't make it and i had a time where i could so i know that this one's interesting your longer wheelbase is going to make it to where you're going to have an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how you look at it an advantage if you go first you can pick a line that favors a longer wheelbase it'll be interesting because again like my line will be either really easy for you or really hard for you one of the two yeah we won't know until you get up here well what do you think you want to get started let's do it let's do it [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] all right well i think that since it's so dry these might be too easy for all of us it was easy but i mean it wasn't super hard yeah so um hopefully the next place is a little bit harder huh that's the first time i've ever made it it's always been like wet and slimy yeah i know right i've always been denied at the bottom just chugga chugga chugga chugga absolutely yeah well we're gonna go find a better one i think and um i i'll go next how about that i'll go with you uh what's it called again yeah buggy hill let's go to buggy hill buggy hill is a man-made obstacle in tokuya state forest this is one of my favorites in this park because it's vertical it's really wide so there's a lot of opportunity to choose just how easy or how difficult you want to make your line so there's a lot of variety especially for a challenge like this i'm just going to come clean right now i'm going to run the hardest line we knew that before there and this it's so hard to see in camera but it's just holes perspective hang on i'm seven feet tall so yeah there's a fronds in there so as you can see um there is there's holes there's lots of holes to fall into black hole here black hole there absolutely that's the one that caught me up three weeks ago because i couldn't get my left tire up and over that so i was up there and i had the winch so i've always cheated i'm gonna do so here's the risk the risk is uh well if i make it that's awesome i might be able to get put some letters on the board for them but if i try it and i can't make it then i get a letter but again what determines that you can't make it your choice correct you give up there's no time limit here yeah if you're if you're leading then yes you give up so if i'm trying i mean but i'm not going to do it for an hour i'm going to be reasonable if if i'm in the same spot for 10 minutes just like austin powers in it then obviously i haven't made i'm not making it so yeah what if you pick a different line i'd well whatever at that point it doesn't matter i don't get to pick a different line the line i chose i went too ballsy and i need to pay for it i don't think that should be the rule again the first unless you give up if you're gonna be like screw it and you do it that way then i just feel like this that you get the pick that is that's the reason of whoever gets to go first i know that last time i don't think so no i think i think i think if i try this line and i can't make it i get a letter and then you guys get to battle it out between the two of you and choose my behind for later some lessons are hard learned one thing i've learned the older i get is that just because i've done something once doesn't necessarily mean i can do it again what a beautiful day to make a fool yourself so right [Music] oh no is it bound up right there i don't know we're gonna get out look i think i broke a shaft oh did the stickies finally claim a piece of drivetrain for themselves oh happened nate i think i either broke a locker or an axle shaft i'm not sure which i hear air coming out is that well i'll turn off the rear locker yeah it's the rear is leaking up here sometimes locker or shaft yeah either you because the only one that air collar is the only thing that really like has air in it yeah so either you bust you blew the locker out and that's where the air is coming from is that actuator on the inside so uh i hear air up here though well that's because i have i have all my all of my breathers all routed up under the hood oh i got you the extra pressure is going to the breather gotcha that makes sense i didn't want to pull a rear center out well it's a d i get a d i need a better way to get it well i'm going to try to back it up and let's see how grindy it sounds huh that sounds like shaft to me oh that's not good all right what's the plan boys are we uh who who's going next to i think by default it is the first one okay so now it's you make it and like there was a wall of cockiness and then like a 35 spline bro you keep saying i was cocky i wasn't cocky i was trying to do something tough well i mean i think i know i've tried that side multiple times and i've never been able to get up it i've always had to winch up it or get stuck and or break on it so i think i'm just going to play it safe and come up on this line here well the easy line as they call it easy line yes so i know that probably both of us will get well i need one of you guys to get me back to my truck and trailer so i i don't mind you taking the easy line yeah i don't i mean thank you so you have my permission is what i'm saying in the grand scheme of things like it's not really that easy but for this obstacle it is the easy line certainly [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] if you're the kind of person that likes to push your rig and find its limits eventually you will and you'll be in my situation here which is where you're taking the drive of shame i don't let these types of situations ruin my day because i'm out here to push my vehicle to the limits i'm out here to figure out where the weak points are and today i found another weak point that needs to be beefed up and made strong enough to where i never have to deal with this again i can't believe we made it over that now let's go get my truck and trailer i can't go any farther i can't believe it did not come out of there it was making a lot of racket oh yeah and that drum is definitely out farther than it should be show comparison with the camera from your passenger to the driver one oh yeah dude look at that gap on the bottom after loading up my rig on the trailer it was time to head to the main event sasquatch bluff will be the final obstacle of the day and definitely the toughest one in the park to be honest i'm pretty bummed i won't be able to hit this obstacle but there is no way i'm missing out on watching franz and kelly give it their best shot the left line is a good one yeah it's not near as bad as it looks especially when it's dry like this yeah seriously it looks yeah i've done the left one before i've never done the right you gonna hit it yeah let's do it [Music] all right [Music] i've been down so long [Music] that my mind can't get no rest cause i need i've been running so long [Music] oh no it [Music] i am [Music] [Music] whew well what do we think guys i think uh franz won it huh so at this point we're just trying to get kelly to a safe position i was gonna politely wait to bring that up is this what it feels like to be a winner yep this is winter stuff right here and kelly's down there being a sore loser and i can't even enjoy my win whatever that's what i'd say oh no he can hear us [Music] i can't see no [Applause] [Music] it looks like team toyota won the day but i bet you're gonna end up seeing a rematch at some point on this channel after troubleshooting kelly's leaky radiator we decided to head back load up on the trailers and lick our wounds [Music] today i think toyota's won [Music] i agree on camera i'm okay with that so what'd you guys think of this whole i mean it did not go as planned kind of weird it was kind of weird right yeah i mean but would you do it again if we went to reader and we decided to do another game of dirt would we do it again i think reader would be a better choice there's more options there's way more obstacles together yeah yeah i think it'd be a better choice than here but this is a lot closer to us yeah i think um maybe next time we for joining me today gentlemen yeah it was fun and now i am going to warp this to my garage and we're going to figure out what's wrong with my jeep this is obviously not how i normally end wheeling videos but i know i'm gonna get a bunch of questions about this so i'm gonna take a couple minutes i'm gonna show you guys what i've learned over the last couple days first off this is where all that noise is coming from between this and the bearings which are clearly extremely unhappy so this is a semi-float rear axle for those of you who are new that means that it is the the weight of the vehicle is being held on the axle shaft whereas with a full float axle you have a hub this is from a one ton you have a hub that holds the weight of the vehicle and it goes around this and then the axle shaft only has to handle the load of the twisting force so i've learned some things over the last few days that i'd like to share because i get questions on this stuff a lot and the thickness of the ford nine inch 35 spline is pretty impressive this is it's supposed to be 1.5 so an inch and a half essentially and that is that is right where we're at then you compare it to a factory one ton axle and the sterling 10 and a half axle shaft even though it's a 35 spline same spline count is almost the same thickness as a dana 44 very surprised to see that so what i'm saying is that when you look at where the brake was which is its thinnest point which is where it gets around the splines i would have the same result in this instance with a one ton axle as i did with the ford nine inch however i cannot get a harder axle shaft for the ford nine inch i just learned this by talking to uconn because if you get any harder material on a semi-float rear axle they have a tendency to pop flanges because it just gets too hard i suppose and so it makes it to where it's easier to pop the flange because it's having to hold weight shear and twisting whereas with a full float axle like in this one ton we can get an extremely hard alloy for this shaft because it's only handling the twisting force so once again i knew i was gonna get a lot of questions about this i just wanted to take a
