I've worked in some of the toughest fine dining restaurants in the US and today I'm putting myself to a test I don't know I can pass becoming a Benihana Hibachi chef spitting utensils flying shrimp and onions shooting planes usually that's a bad thing which brings me to the singular place that popularized hibachi style cooking in all of America Benihana yeah today I'll be training to see if I have what it takes to become a Benihana Master Chef and who better to judge than our very own subscribers let's go I needed to first begin training with the Hibachi expert and Benihana set us up with one of their best [Applause] yeah it wasn't looking too good all right this is Chef G you're going to be teaching me about hibachi style cooking but first I want to identify something really quick so it's not hibachi style cooking it's no no Hibachi means Fireball in Japanese Teppanyaki is plate iron griddle medium rare Josh you're gonna be my shepherd in Teppanyaki let's get you in the proper attire oh my God the iconic hat ah can I keep this if you can prove to me that you can master all the skills we show you today easy I could do it right now foreign with the iconic Benihana hat on the line my goal was clear it was do or die and I had a long journey ahead of me as you roll up to the table I'm gonna make eye contact with any of the guests give a good smile show them a little underneath here I'm gonna give a Japanese greeting a rushing let's say how we doing today everybody say we're gonna grab out our small knife what the hell where did that come from patented Benihana sheath right now I want one of those small knife Fork about 45 degree angle bring out a bow now it's your turn Hiroshima say it's fine huh so basically anything I do in the kitchen you gotta freak it freak it put the knife away I'm gonna add something to it all right nothing is just as it seems we'll actually have two kind of Specialists so this can be my show spatula and this one's for cooking some of the modifications that we have so this one is going to be about two fingers shorter two fingers like Everyone likes we're also gonna have this part cut out to make it better weighted we're gonna start some tricks now I'm going to show you just like little easy tricks that you're going to be able to do okay did you say that you are going to be able to do the inner stuff is there is there methodology to this or have fun foreign [Music] so I'm not really like throwing this I'm just lifting it so practice one two one two then you can do them together you can do them opposites some simple enough you ever have one fly out and catch with their teeth only if you pay extra money oh okay all right okay I'll start with a simple toss there we go not bad okay one two this is much harder than I thought it was gonna be probably we'll just stick with these how about that give me a rating out of 10 on that for a first day you get like a seven I'll take that so we've done our show that's the show that's like the beginning show we've wowed them they know what we're about next thing we're gonna do is clean off the grill grills on it's heated what are we making today flashing metal that's Hibachi steak with colossal shrimp if Benihana safflower oil get that spread so I'm gonna add some vegetables we got an egg roll right did we get an egg roll yeah you got an egg roll oh man I'm getting experience now your first egg absolutely free but any additional eggs cost you double how many one you want me to add one when did he add that did he actually add that did you guys see him add that little swirl here a drop of oil put the eggs right on that oil oh my goodness you got one chance okay put that one into there it's uh egg drop soup magic eggs so his name is Corey oh he's getting away got him okay actually you want to learn some Japanese yeah oh say sayonara sayonara okay [Music] [Applause] the same pieces Corey so you like hash browns yeah well that's rice so I'm gonna pick this up kind of spread it down over there I'm sure you know how to season correctly as far as I'll grab sugar a couple of paper love that right not gonna be that one do you like bird seeds I uh you know I've never had them before you haven't had them okay if you don't like them pick it out we'll give you Chopsticks okay and everybody remembers our caterpillar Cory right he's back he's a butterfly now there's Corey all right you know what I'm making yeah this is how I got engaged isn't it no it's not you made me happy and you took it away so what am I making I was gonna say a heart it's actually fried rice I'm getting taken to the cleaners today thanks for coming hey you make our heart beat it's cheesy rice now look this is our Benihana ketchup low sodium high sodium too much sodium oh no heart attack be careful okay all the diabetics watching this we're like I'm gonna lie this does smell Immaculate okay so let me know how it tastes you're talking about the rice though right we're gonna toss that in there in this one you were like throwing it in the bowl yeah all right perfect no such thing as extra as a Benihana now these all may look like they're equal however you do want to ah so this one here is a little bit lighter than these ones [Music] very polite that's level one that's level one level two well then we got two and a half you want this one or this one I would assume the full one so you want this one yeah you're so kind he just left to grab something so now's my time to trial watch this oh I need to get this back in before he comes back oh God ow why do I feel so broken right now Vikram exactly how you left it did you practice uh no I didn't practice anything this was from you from what you were doing earlier I made a mess man yeah that's pretty bad let's get the manager in here yeah I'm gonna start with our vegetables and we have our appetizer shrimp we get just a quick sear on those shrimp there wipe that off sear the veggies really quick and uh this one is our little volcano are you ready we're doing it now it looks harder than it is basically just choosing the right onion you got to build a suspense oh we are ready for a little fire one two it's a little fire do people actually get confused by that depending on a jet fuel now don't try this at home just go to your best friend's house okay fire fireworks free train ride Benihana Express watch out tornado now the more noise that you make when you use the Shakers the better the flavors now we don't put the butter directly on the food put it right off to the side we're gonna add in that soy sauce to the butter that's going to kind of let us Infuse that flavor over the whole zucchini and then when we make these Cuts we're going to go to biasing those perfect little Cuts there every time presently losing all of the information that's being given to me at the same time now these shrimp are almost done I'm gonna do three Cuts cut on the tail cut on the butterfly and then I cut on the shrimp are we gonna get to toss the shrimp I'm stoked about that you know practice with the Tails and if you fail always blame your tools oh good that's what I usually see my my hat was not folded correctly obviously you're blaming the two but but when you do it right who gets the win so you start oh and then you go in now I'm gonna do all of them foreign yeah who sweeps you kind of make sure we season everything just right at the same time okay so butter on everything regular butter everything we get our lemons tongs since we don't have gloves which is right down that tongue there put that right there by that zucchini now the good stuff we got some steaks medium rare oh yeah finishing these onions off we're gonna get my Sears while I'm working on everything else same with a little bit of butter for that saute if they ask for more butter you usually give it to them anything you ask where we give you Benihana right ready to cut some meat we toss the shrimp now let's cut the meat bias cut get our pile together I honestly just realized I wasn't really watching so here we go why is this so difficult it feels so weird this is gonna be an interesting show here you go hey that works salt pepper oh thank you mushrooms and onions a little bit of soy about two ounces of onions for each order yeah I'll just grab my scale left scale right scale yeah that's right man this guy is fast I gotta work on my comedy man I need another coffee what's going on now the best part a bit of cleanup now that we've made this excellent splash of metal here we have a nice bow out and we're done you ready no no I am not and apparently I don't have time to test this they're just gonna bring people in here and I'm just supposed to repeat all that so thankfully I know how to cook so at least there's that on my side I think you're ready do you I do all right the pressure is on they came for the greatest hibachi style meal they can get and I'm gonna give it to them but first I need to get a good rating I need to nail my tricks and Chef G will be watching time to introduce our special judges for today who are also subscribers we got Mitchell Susanna William who kind of looks like the Jack version of me Ian Richard and Asha time for my grand entrance thank you guys for joining me I'm here to give you uh ideally the greatest Hibachi experience you've ever had or at least an unforgettable one Ian so I heard a very special story are you married because of me yes we're engaged because of you watch the pizza video for two weeks straight every day religiously and then I invited her over for pizza we consummated our love then that's incredible you guys ready everybody's ready can someone take my carrot please why is your goatee getting skinnier have you guys been to a Hibachi Grill before is this your first time yes high standards oh my God high standards well then what sauce is this then Luke's Brown Ginger based how do you know maybe it's not because I'm Japanese oil you don't say oil Benihana do what just beef knee Benihana okay all right come on Josh be Benihana time for my first trick oh got the crowd going can I keep the momentum no I cannot oh hey it made it on the griddle so I can't complain there's no oil on there ripped now we got an egg roll did anyone order an egg roll what was it a joke I'm naming this one Fred I think we should name him Fred we all like that name Fred there goes Fred Fred's gone it's awesome together it's so weird trying not to describe this you guys I keep waiting for you well I guess I could technically are we supposed to leave that egg behind or what happened that's what this is for ah Benihana is probably like this is our worst we've ever had they said they'd hire you as we'll see after my Yelp review the performance affects your tip just so you know I've never cooked on a Teppanyaki Style Grill in my life as long as it's good we're in a good spot right do you guys want low sodium high sodium oh there it is Chef G did not train me with this much rice did we ship you good thing you got those new mussels yeah I gotta lose some weight here this is how I'm gonna do it a little bit of salt does that look like a heart it's a hard attack oh and then they passed away but they turned into fried rice so it's fine pull the Bowl's up this did not go over well last time but I have to do it would you prefer this bowl or this bowl well now I have to give it to him take that one you want to take this one thank you thank you I'll be here for a few more hours that one is a little bit low it just took the pinch more I actually I could you get the egg that's like an inch to the right this one another one that's burning right now 12 o'clock yeah that's the one that's the one I wanted you just broke it no I don't okay I want to see some spatula trips special tricks guys first step two hands [Music] flip this one oh God and now for the one that got me earlier being a Benihana Chef is extremely difficult and I was wrong about everything hopefully nobody's allergic to shellfish should we do the shrimp toss yeah I myself have never even experienced a shrimp sauce you should try it we should toss something in your mouth later yeah this is a lot harder with a lot of stuff on The Griddle I'll be honest that's a big zucchini what do you mean by that it's above average it's not that big there we go I actually can't see how much salt is going on guys if it's too salty I'm sorry okay I'm sorry I want to use my hands so bad a lot of the time they refer in 5-19 to how many touches a dish has but in this you're actually not even allowed to touch everything which is challenging that was a trick that was on purpose hopefully you're not allergic to zucchini no hopefully nobody's allergic to poorly cut onions big room how am I doing oh yeah but wait till I do the shrimp toss normally we don't allow the chefs to throw shrimp tails but since Josh is so special he gets to throw his shrimp at you today who wants to go first boom done all right okay [Music] oh there we go yes now it's time to clean up the grill so where's the garbage can [Music] yeah how many do I have in my hat none come on you did land one though foreign [Applause] comparison to your first service how am I doing right now I mean I had like eight weeks to train and you had like 15 minutes so I think you're doing excellent bless you Chef G how do we like our steak cooked oh thank God because if you guys said well done I honestly would have just left how am I doing so far because I'm not even paying attention I'm just trying to stay alive right now I'm loving it the shrimp could have used some more salt more salt I'm gonna think about that when I go to bed also I'm gonna think about you when I go to bed what do you mean by that what do you want to mean I never thought we'd make it here but it's steak time the one thing I know how to make the way that they make steak here not how I make steak but there's butter involved that's all that matters 100 A5 right Chef g whatever you say Josh stretchy give me a hand here which hand you on the right hand or the left what do I do with that [Applause] I already forgot what he did how about that the one thing I will not do is overcook the steak I promise oh there's the white midnight what's up G how am I doing excellent got a eight out of ten still waiting for that volcano though so I was doing okay but then things turned for the worse garlic butter or regular butter on the mushrooms garlic again I may have even already put butter on this you did you buttered it with the regular butter first you're welcome Benihana is committed to Quality hey you got some beef in there oh did you see him get ready like that this is really hot it's fine I'm really hot oh oh and the shirt okay it's just gonna be buttoned now I was so focused on party tricks entertaining being a Benihana Chef that I completely forgot about my steak practically well done thing for you the one thing I will not do is overcook the steak I promise the snake is gone this is the first time in my life I've ever served a well done steak pretend I didn't do that please oh it's so rare I like to chew for hours on end not great for my ratings but I have one more trick of my sleeve I have a finale for all of you dessert no my glasses are stained with oil my spirit's broken the steak was broken I have to at least get this onion volcano let's begin I am really nervous I'm nervous on your behalf I need this for you yeah you need to swim they were right I needed to nail this time to focus damn they're having way too much fun telling them to chill the hell out it's my birthday I think your birthday you can't mess this [Music] morning all right okay okay that was totally worth it I don't know what else I'm supposed to do you didn't tell me what to do when I'm done the meal is done so it's time for us to get some ratings in and hopefully get to keep my hat on a scale out of five five being this is the Benihana experience great meal me was a little overcooked four out of five you started at a five but it just went down down you know the song then you toss the meat and it hit my shirt so now it's down to a two but I like your presence I'll give you a four what about the Indian volcano oh that was cool too I'll give you a four thank you for your sympathy vote wait hang on you're the Jack one hang on one second one second performance we're going two out of five all right two and a half chewing the steak was probably the hardest workout I'll have maybe a 2.75 best Benihana experience I've ever had in my whole life ultimately it looks like the Benihana experience is tough watching it was tough to cap it off the steak was tough so all around 3.3 sounds good the final rating comes in with Chef G please I'm glad you guys are not my customers you are rough on Josh scorecard here we are looking pretty close [Music] look I beat Michelin star chefs but being a Teppanyaki Chef is not as easy as you think it requires care consistency and hard work if you want to learn how to become a Benihana Chef you can use their be the chef experience to get all the knowledge you could possibly
