this is a thief stealing my childhood skateboard that I've had for the last 15 years of my life today I'm going to be 3D printing a new one the only problem is I don't know how to 3D print anything but I do know someone who does what's up how we doing okay so this is Cameron my child's best friend but also the manager of Colorado State University's most Supreme 3D printing lab and he agreed to help so I hopped on a plane to my hometown of Denver Colorado and now I'm about to spend the next 4 days with my childhood best friend what could possibly go wrong like completely cracking the thing really yeah okay let's hope that doesn't happen here's our plan first we're going to print all three pieces of the skateboard then insert a metal rod to provide support add theu of wheels and super glue and pray to the skateboarding gods that this thing doesn't break and how expensive would like a middle piece be just one middle piece like $2 and so to get this whole thing printed is around like5 or $6 an entire skateboard is $5 and that's partially why I'm 3D printing the skateboard instead of just buying a new one they say 3D printing is the cheapest fastest and strongest way to build anything your heart desires so throughout this video we will testing it out to see if we can successfully print a functional skateboard wait so what what program exactly is this so the file I'm just getting from thing cuz all we use PR slicer and that's basically just going to slice so after 30 literal seconds of arriving C had already pulled up the designs picked the colors transfer the information from the computer to the 3D printer and now all we have left to do is so we're just going to hit print and yeah it's going to get that part done in like 7 and 1 half hours so once we got all the printers started Cameron showed me this Rod printed out of carbon fiber that is nearly impossible to break this is the material we're using for the skateboard or no no we're using a weaker one oh so that's like nice so we printed the skateboard overnight and now it's the next day where I'm about to see the prints for the very first time right now bro what okay what what what's the next step what do we do we probably want to take them off the beds okay so this is the front piece yeah so let's wiggle that like we could grab the bed by the sides and wiggle it in s of just force it off the plate like bend it oh oh like this and then it should be able to just rip off nice and easy if you just grab the piece now bro this is smooth oh my God just clean right right there bro wait and this is it like this is literally one of the pieces yeah that's done bro lizo Loki might be able to fit on this board I'm not even joking but before we know it the pieces were finally complete there you go that's it yeah that's it bro holy oh my God bro I'm actually freaking out right now this is so cool it actually looks so good this lab's first 3D printed skateboard if you will look at this bro wait what what do we have to do next now we just got to maybe put some metal rods in it we got to figure out how to attach Wheels to this pretty much really yeah we got to attach Wheels attach wheels so are we like 3D printing the wheels or uh I don't know if we have t so we headed to a bunch of thrift stores in search of skateboard wheels to attach to the 3D printed board but for some reason it took 2 and 1/2 hours in five different stores until okay we finally found a skateboard what do you say I me Beggars can't be choosers I guess yeah we might just have to go with this one use the T one okay let's drop a bag and let's get this one is this like good quality though for Wheels um good quality for 3D printed ones yeah the only problem is we don't know for sure if the wheels will even fit but we're running out of time and this was our only option dude that was like legendary find oh my gosh that was crazy overall this has been like under like $35 The Next Step was to get metal rods to slide into the inside of the skateboard to strengthen it and hopes that it's able to support my weight those are some massive some ma really about the average size so we headed back to the lab and now finally it's time to assemble this thing some ASMR type you ready the plan is to remove all the screws trucks and wheels from the skateboard we just purchased and attach them onto the 3D printed skateboard that we printed last night but we still don't even know if the wheels are going to fit or not so while Cameron worked on the board I uh was so funny okay guys we are about to attach the wheels onto the 3D printed skateboard for the very first time let's pray this works the wheels look so fat okay the wheels might be actually a bit too big but this is the only Wheels we have so we have to we have to roll with it you think it'll work yeah you do not sound confident no looks I think all skateboards this all skateboards I wish you would screw me like that Cameron oh yeah tall it actually does look kind of tall we we've run into a bit of a problem the skateboard seems to be a tad bit tall so Cameron's removing the spacer hopefully it's the right size after we do this yo okay this is without the SP I cannot talk okay so this is without the space bro holy this looks insane it's okay Cameron took the spacer off I think it looks 10 times better yeah let's finish it out and see how it's going to look okay so while cam is screwing in the screws into the 3D printed skateboard my job is to take the tags off of the steel rods because I'm not trusted to do anything else y'all look at this it's an actual wheel on a 3D printed skateboard this is insane holy bro okay so now basically the entire process is just repeating what we just did what what you just did I guess so after doing 99% of the work came trusted me to insert the final script guys he's trusting me with something let's go guys the last thing I built was the airless tire video and you guys saw how that turned out I'm praying that this turns out better than that this is the last screw let's try not to mess this up so after a total of 26 hours working on this project from printing to getting a skateboard to building the second set of wheels were finally done we are done this is the second piece this is like the back the back third of the skateboard the next step is to insert the metal rods we bought from the store into the skateboard because although this is some of like the toughest 3D printed plastic there is we want to make sure that like it's reinforced so that realistically like what do you think the weight limit of this would be G I don't know probably still like a couple hundred lb you think a couple hundred lb I don't know on this tiny little skateboard that's insane dude bro this one it's coming together oh my God this is actually bro what am I looking at dude what do you think thoughts immediate thoughts that is bro it looks like we just bought this what the heck so basically we put the steel rods in now all we have left to do is super glue right yeah we're just going to glue and hope it hope it works in Pre yeah gotcha praying would be a complete and total understatement for what we were underprepared to do since the lab was about to close for Christmas break cim stole a 3D printer for any last minute repairs just in case one of the 3D printed Parts broke so we headed an hour and a half South to his house where we would wait two full days for this superg glue to strengthen while we waited Kim and I just hung out like the good old days but now it's finally time to test this bad boy out because my plane ride home is sadly in 7 hours okay the glue has been drying for over 2 days now we're about to take it to the skate park and see this thing actually rides and if it holds me what are the chances that this thing breaks so we drove to the skate park but before I tested out the board I wanted to get an actual skater reaction to truly see if 3D printed skateboards are the next big thing I'm actually curious cuz I see a skater right now I want to see what he thinks about the the skateboard yeah yeah I was just going to ask you like what do you think about the skateboard we 3D printed it oh sweet okay here let me get down there this is the 3D printed skateboard okay what do you think I mean it's kind of small I guess it's actually Le to it I know it is pretty heavy I mean it looks like uh like that's me and that's the guy she tells you not to worry about you know like that's kind of I think it's I think it's cool yeah sick Bro sick but soon enough the time came I'm I'm so nervous I'm so nervous okay I'm going to almost thr like a snowboard like this why does everything I build break airless tires 3D printed skateboard and now my soul I really wanted to bring the skateboard back to Kansas to truly remember this trip to remember the memories the struggle and the fun but all I have now is a cracked 3D printed skateboard and some washed out Polaroid photos Where Do We Go From Here well that's a good question I have to go home Cameron has to stay here but maybe just maybe we will one day build something that doesn't break or maybe we already have something right here that will hopefully last a lifetime [Music] [Music]
