Hypercar drag race: McLaren P1 vs P1 GTR vs Hyundai electric car (Ioniq 5 N)

good I'm Paul today we are doing the most insane thing I've ever done we are drag racing a McLaren P1 up against a McLaren P1 GTR that is an insane hyper car versus an insane race car version of the hyper car and then what we're going to do is put it up against the Hyundai ionic 5n for a bit of context so you can see how quick a fast electric car is Big shout out to Hundai for helping us put this on and covering the cost also need to give a big shout out to our mate lence who has loaned us his incredible cars he has an insane car collection and he's helped us make all this happen if you do may look cool on YouTube but uh I am absolutely myself and uh I think elbow's is as well so this is basically a race car version of that which is the McLaren P1 this 3.8 L twin turbocharged V8 it has a small battery as well for a boost system you've got like a Formula 1 steering wheel here ahead of the driver with iPass which is like a temporary boost feature you have a DRS button you got a pit button yeah it is it is a really complex Beast so we are going to try our hardest to to extract as much as we can out of this but ultimately these are effectively raced cars albor what does it feel like in there in the easy familyfriendly version of this I'm just driving a regular family SUV here with 900 horsepower it's uh it is quite terrifying I have to I have to say I just did a practice run and uh let's uh let's make those practice runs count all right Megan count us in going be using launch control here I think holy holy oh my God oh my God I don't even know what's happening oh my God holy where's pole that Wasing insane I can't even describe what that felt like holy uh I I didn't even have t it was literally tunnel vision all the way through to the end I did not even look at what the Speedos I don't even couldn't even tell you how fast we were going all I know is that that was terrifying I didn't even fit in this seat it is genuinely terrifying so um that was incredible so obviously the road car won there I will caveat this by saying this car's on wets long story but for this type of surface we just had to pick the most suitable Tire especially if it was going to rain that is on a I guess a very aggressive mve Road tire and uh now I think we need to go back and do a roll race how do you feel that was terrifying I honestly didn't know where you were the whole way I was looking straight ahead and uh I do love that little mirror you got there going it's very cute you can get your KFC pass through that one good day sorry to interrupt the drag race I wanted to tell after that experience um so we're going to get up to 50 we're both going to be in second gear and then uh the rest is is up to the traction Gods yeah this is an entirely pointless test but I'm very glad we're doing it okay here we go [Music] come on on that is quick oh my God holy sh wo oh my God I don't understand that was insane look that way pretty much how I thought it would go simply because yeah this thing struggled for traction off the line but on once it moves you've got a car that's lighter obviously a better driver as well all of these things add up to to just make it uh an impossible feat to beat the race car version of the road car yeah that thing just absolutely flew when uh when the Hat fell but I did not yeah this this just I'm sure that feels fast but this is just like hold on for dear life well when I beat you in a drag in that car then you'll see who's the better driver as well so Elbo is convinced that he will somehow be able to extract a better result so what we're going to do now is swap cars and do the run again so we can see whether I was right all along along okay so we have now SWA drivers still terrifying thing on this side but uh we will we will see uh we will see what happens uh we're going to do the same thing again just straight through to the quartermile mark and just verify the results and then we will whip out the ionic 5n to see what is what okay Megan we are good to go launching on go 3 2 yes oh yes oh yes oh wow wow yes yes it is not the car he had a much better start then he basically walked away from me think it also shows you what it is like once you get some warmth into these tires once that race car hooks up it is absolutely sling shotting forward at an unbelievable Pace I think we've just proven it is not the car it is just the driver there's no other scientific explanation for your loss aside from the tires but yes definitely I agree with all of the above I mean I I'll be surprised if McLaren doesn't offer me a Lando seat next year the I think the way that you took your foot off the break was remarkable I've never seen anything like it oh hang on hang on Zack Brown is calling I got to hang now I know what you're thinking elbows is a hopeless driver how did he win that drag race well I was thinking the same thing and I thought gee maybe I'm not that good well we did some forensic examination and he cheated he jumped the start which explains why he ended up winning that and I warmed up the ties for him when we did switch cars as well so that explains that mystery uh by the way the P1 GTR that we were driving is actually for sale and uh if you want to buy it get from A to B have a racing harness and all that sort of fun stuff you can actually buy that car um now we're going to hop back into the video we're taking the ionic 5 and now drag racing it up against the P1 we didn't think it was really all that fair to put it up against the P1 GTR and this is how it went so this is going to be very interesting because it's Mr elbows over there with his uh not his but AP1 and uh me over here and no it's not mine either but a ionic 5n just as a friendly reminder this is Peak Pinnacle started off pretty good because he didn't get much traction off the line but we were within I reckon about two car legs of a McLaren P1 in a Hyundai that is absolute Insanity I was not expecting that so obviously a lot of that comes down to the launch this is not a prep surface but this is a $110,000 Hyundai and that is I don't even know like2 plus million dollar so I think that was pretty awesome we're going to head back to do a rooll race elbows any remarks on uh how you didn't beat me by more than a couple of car Ls I'm just so impressed by that car capacity to get traction like that Hyundai the way it gets off the line is is ridiculous cuz yes it's low surface yes that car is all drive but it just doesn't seem to slip okay enough talking I just want you to accelerate past me so I can hear that that sounds so good all right let's head back let's do a roll race here I I think this is probably where I'm really going to get demolished uh on the roll race but um that's okay we'll give it a shot okie dokie here we go let's roll up to 50 go go go go go go go go go yes come on come on come on oh this is so close go go go yes yes I'm freaking knew it that I think was almost a dead heat you would just in front but you were not in front by $2 million that was insane I cannot believe this kept up with a P1 that is crazy it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or by a mile you still win okay now it's time for me to be quiet we're going to put each car up against our GPS timer to see exactly how quick they are w oh [Music] oh man that was so much fun I'm genuinely shocked at how quick
