on January 11th 1999 something terrible happened in the small city of Katie Texas my wife is oh oh jeez got blood everywhere okay sir is she Brea I think she's already dead she's eight months bre a 30-year-old woman named Belinda Temple who was a kind teacher at the local high school was killed in her own home during the day it was a shocking event that deeply affected the people who lived there we didn't know if it was just some random kids coming in trying to steal stuff and she got in the way and so they killed her with the killer still on the loose the neighborhood is uneasy she's a very nice person it just it's kind of scary you know happening in your own neighborhood and right next door to me I live right around the corner from where this house happened and to believe that something like this could happen in our little neighborhood was just unbelievable students are now grieving for their loss she helped a lot of troubled teens she was a good person she didn't deserve this Belinda was married to David Temple who was also 30 years old and worked as a high school football coach they had a three-year-old son named Evan and Belinda was expecting a baby girl in just a month one day David discovered Belinda in their bedroom closet shot and fatally wounded at first the police thought it was a burglary gone wrong but as they looked closer they started to find Clues suggesting there was more to the story than a simple Breakin what were the secrets hidden in the house of this perfect American family was this an unplanned murder caused due to a burglary attempt David Temple had deep roots in Katie his hometown he gained Fame as a standout linebacker for Katie High School's football team earning him admiration as a local hero known for his strong physique sharp Sports sense and appealing personality he was nicknamed the Temple of Doom on the field he played with intensity always driven to secure victory for his team in '89 we won the first Conference Championship at the history of the University everybody got a rign David Temple's Talent on the football field earned him a scholarship to Steven F Austin State University in nag daas Texas whereing the number 42 Jersey he played a pivotal role in leading his team to Victory securing the University's first Conference Championship in 1989 for his contributions to this historic win he was honored with a prestigious gold championship ring during his time at Steven F Austin State University David Temple encountered a young woman named Belinda Lucas who hailed from the nearby town of ncog dai's Texas Belinda 20 years old at the time was known for her cheerful and outgoing nature she shared David's passion for sports particularly volleyball which only added to his attraction to her David and Belinda's Love Story blossomed during their college Years leading to a fairy tale wedding in 1992 both dedicated to their education they earned master's degrees in education before starting their family in 1995 they welcomed their son Evan into the world bringing them immense Joy following their hearts they chose to return to David's hometown of Katie where they pursued careers in education Belinda found fulfillment teaching special education at Katie High School while David embraced his passion for football as a coach at a leaf Hastings High School in Katie David and Belinda created their ideal life together they secured fulfilling jobs settled into a Cozy home in a welcoming neighborhood and crafted a beautiful backyard where their son Evan could Frolic and play adding to their happiness they welcomed a furry companion into their their family a dog named Shaka their circle of friends and colleagues admired their relationship describing it as nothing short of perfect the first time I met David Temple was was that a coaches and wives get together very very tough looking I think coach simple was a great coach he was intense he's the one you didn't want to piss off we called her our Sunshine lady she was just a bubbly young woman and loved teaching she was very caring and living with Evan after full day of work no matter how Tower she would every day they would be playing in the driveway and she it was pretty consistent both David and Belinda doed on Evan you know kind of the light of their their world how would you describe David Temple as a father everyone that told me he was a committed father and I think the best evidence of Who David is is Evan as the young man that the jury met in the summer of 19 1998 the temple family received exciting news Belinda was expecting a baby girl anticipation filled their home as they eagerly awaited the arrival of their daughter Belinda had already chosen the name Aaron for the newest addition to their family adding to their joy and excitement got a boy a girl two teachers you can't describe a better All-American family I walk in the nursery and as a beautiful bright yellow baby uh girl's name was supposed to be Aaron and I had asked her at that time uh when the baby was due again she's said about a month unfortunately the joyous anticipation surrounding Belinda's pregnancy would soon be shattered by a devastating event that no one could have foreseen January 11th 1999 proved to be a particularly challenging day for Belinda especially considering she was 8 months pregnant amidst her B busy schedule at school she received distressing news from the tigerland child care center about Evan's illness and refusal to eat despite her attempts to reach David for assistance she couldn't get through to him feeling frustrated and concerned Belinda decided to personally pick up Evan around 12:15 p.m. upon finally connecting with David he hurried home to care for Evan meanwhile Belinda returned to school for afternoon meetings remaining there until 3:20 p.m. when Belinda finally arrived home later that afternoon she was exhausted and went upstairs to rest David taking care of Evan decided to take him to the park and run some errands however upon their return around 5:35 p.m. David noticed something alarming the gate was wide open and the glass panel on the door was shattered concerned about a possible Breakin David swiftly took Evan across the street to seek help from their neighbor Mike rugiero as Mike hurried back with David they faced a challenge entering the Temple's home because of shaka's aggressive barking despite this obstacle David proceeded alone through the back gate and rushed upstairs to the master bedroom what he discovered was a heartbreaking scene his pregnant wife Belinda lay lifeless in the walk in closet in a state of Devastation David quickly dialed 911 and followed the operator's instructions to try to save Belinda and their unborn baby despite his efforts tragically it was already too late did she have a pause no she oh Jesus Christ I responded along with another paramedic there's certain calls you never forget and this is one of them okay I want you to do CPR for that baby okay okay yes with the injuries that Belinda had it was instant there her blood flow would have ceased almost at the same time that the shot was fired very shortly thereafter once her blood flow ceased the baby would very soon be robbed of um oxygen than and her head is gone Jesus Christ oh is there any way that you could do this there it's just no way as police and paramedics raced to the Temple's house they encountered a significant hurdle Shaka the family's fiercely protective guard dog barred their entry there was a call put out and uh we had learned that someone had been shot the dog was barking at us actually jumping against the fence he was extremely aggressive shaka's reputation as the neighborhood's most formidable guard dog preceded him making it difficult for even an animal specialist to calm him down with time running out and no other viable options authorities contemplated the DraStic measure of shooting Shaka to gain access just as they were about to take action David arrived intervened allowing them entry into the house as the police entered the home they observed indications that pointed towards a burglary the glass pane near the back door's knob was shattered and there were signs of displacement in the living room I was the first Sheriff's Department person to arrive there was a death investigation well at first glance it looks just like a burglary you see force entry to the back door and that's kind of what you think once they get to to the master bedroom closet the scene is horrific upon reaching the upstairs area they discovered Belinda lying face down with a significant wound on the back of her head further examination LED them to conclude that a 12 gauge shotgun was likely the murder weapon despite conducting a thorough search of the house they found two rifles but did not locate any guns matching the description of the murder weapon investigators were deeply unsettled by the Brazen nature of the burglary which occurred during broad daylight when the streets of Katie were bustling with activity with teenagers socializing and people out walking their dogs it seemed inconceivable that such a crime could go unnoticed upon re-examining the crime scene with greater scrutiny they began to realize that certain elements simply didn't align raising suspicions that there was more to the situation than initially met the eye the police arrived at a startling realization the burglary appeared to be staged upon closer examination they noted a crucial inconsistency if the glass pane on the back door had been broken to gain entry the shattered fragments should have fallen inside near the door however they found the glass scattered to the side of the room this peculiar Arrangement indicated that the door was likely already open when the glass was was broken casting doubt on the authenticity of the burglary scenario another significant clue emerged as investigators examined the scene the large television found lying on its side on the floor remained plugged in the positioning of the television struck investigators as unusually neat and deliberate suggesting that it had been deliberately placed there rather than knocked over in a typical burglary scenario this observation further fueled suspicions that the burglary had been staged as detectives meticulously combed through the scene they noted several intriguing details despite several drawers being left open the contents inside appeared undisturbed in the master bedroom Belinda's jewelry box remained untouched on The Dressing Table Belinda's jewelry box was there on her dresser closed appearing to be totally undisturbed more tellingly there was a tray in the open in plain view that had this defendant's old wedding ring a big thick gold chain his watch and his huge Conference Championship Ring all very valuable all undisturbed these findings LED detectives to a chilling realization nothing of significant value had been taken casting further doubt on the authenticity of the burglary and reinforcing their suspicion that it had been staged the detective's suspicions deepened as they uncovered yet another clue despite shaka's reputation as the strongest and fiercest Watchdog in the neighborhood he had been unusually quiet throughout the afternoon when the murder took place no one in the neighborhood reported hearing Shaka bark until Belinda's body was discovered this strange Silence from such a Vigilant guard dog raised further doubts about the authenticity of the burglary and added to the mounting evidence suggesting Foul Play We I've already mentioned this shocka you all know everyone knows it doesn't take rocket science to know this what's the best deterrent for a burglar now that's before the days because again back in the day that's before the days when we all had ring cameras and Nest cameras on our front doors back in the day what was the best deter to a burglar a Barky dog it could be a Barky dog this big or it could be a big scary Barky dog but that's the best deterrent to a burglar so how in the world can anybody get past shotgun how in the world or why in the world would anybody want to get past shakun and this this point of entry as we call it the broken window on the back door where presumably a burlar would have made that the point of entry that was behind the fence that was in shaka's backyard Shaka you'll hear was an indoor outdoor dog sometimes he was out in the yard sometimes he was inside the house he was kept in theide the house often times to keep him from having any kind of a Ruckus and on that day and sometimes they left the garage door open their house had a standalone garage some days they left the garage door open so Shaka could get in and out to kind of use it like a doggy door but Shaka was an indoor outdoor dog now tellingly that afternoon nobody heard of PE out of Shaka not a bark not a growl not a nothing nobody saw Shaka nobody heard Shaka whereas if this was a Berkeley it sure should have and if this was a burglary where should shakka have been dead that's where the burlar let shakka live but not Belinda the autopsy yielded a crucial piece of evidence an intact bullet shell retrieved from Belinda's body analysis revealed that it belonged to a 12 gauge double a buckshot a type of ammunition typically used for deer hunting how however despite exhaustive searches the police were unable to locate the murder weapon furthermore their efforts to uncover fingerprints or DNA evidence at the crime scene proved fruitless adding another layer of complexity to the investigation as the investigation continued without yielding new leads the focus of the police gradually shifted towards David Temple Belinda's husband investigators took David to a police substation on the day of the murder where his statement was recorded in writing rather than being captured on video or audio according to David's statement Belinda returned home around 3:45 p.m. that day he then took Evan to Beacon Park followed by a visit to the Brookshire Brothers store for a cold drink their final stop was at Home Depot before returning home however David's account lacked Precision regarding his activities and movements while at the Park raising suspicions among investigators detectives found an anomaly during their interview with David despite his proximity to his deceased wife and his attempts to assist her and the unborn baby after the 911 call he had no blood on his hands or clothes this raised further suspicion regarding his involvement in the crime however despite their concerns David had a compelling Alibi supported by video evidence CCTV footage from both the Brookshire Brothers and Home Depot stores captured David's Presence at the respective locations providing him with a strong Alibi for the time frame surrounding the murder despite this detectives remained cautious and continued to keep David under scrutiny feeling frustrated and unfairly targeted by the detective suspicions David and his family sought legal representation they reached reached out to lawyer Paul Looney to Advocate on David's behalf in any further inquiries or investigations I got a phone call fairly late in the evening that David's wife had been murdered and that that they believed he was being treated as a suspect because it's almost always the husband they're not doing an investigation they're doing a Witch Hunt I was driving at speeds in excess of 130 to get a David's parents home when I got there very quickly I told him either you're innocent and we have to have a full and complete investigation or you did it and we need to make sure that nobody can figure out enough to prove it in court I need to take one of those tracks and he had no hesitation at all he said I'm innocent you do anything you have to do to make sure that these people are caught on January 15th 1999 5 days after Belinda's murder detectives got an important clue the Roberts family who lived behind the temples told the police what they heard on the day Belinda was killed the Roberts boys said they were watching a movie after coming back from school when they heard loud sounds like gunshots outside by looking at the part of the movie they were watching when they heard the noise the police figured out the exact time of the murder 4:35 p.m. oh no where you going where you going sorry sorry my late my late good evening doctor while you were watching Dr dittle did something happen there was a noise like boom I Hur like this b boom like boom what did you think the boom was at first firecracker and then what did you think gunshot around the time when the murder happened David was seen on CCTV at the Brookshire brother store at 4:32 p.m. he was with Evan later they were seen on CCTV footage at Home Depot at around 5:14 p.m. this evidence supported David's Alibi showing that he was elsewhere when the murder occurred with David's Alibi confirmed by CCTV footage the police had no choice but to remove him from their list of suspects instead they redirected their focus towards the temple family's neighborhood one individual who drew their attention was Riley Joe Sanders a teenager who resided next door to the temples Riley was a former student at Katie high school and had attended some of Belinda's special education classes he had a history of skipping school to spend time with friends and smoke marijuana Belinda had reported his behavior to his family resulting in him losing his driving privileges this raised suspicions among the police who considered whether Riley harbored a grudge against Belinda that could have motivated him to commit the murder Riley had even spoken to news reporters after the murder sharing his thoughts and potentially providing further insight into his possible involvement Riley Joe Sanders was actually one of the students interviewed by the local news I can't believe anything like this would ever happen to her she's a very nice person it just it's kind of scary you know happened in your own neighborhood and right next door to me Riley asserted that he was at school when the murder occurred but his classmates contradicted his claim however the police faced a puzzling dilemma How could a 16-year-old boy discreetly carry a large shotgun in broad daylight bypass the formidable guard dog Shaka and commit murder solely out of Revenge without concrete evidence to support their suspicions the police ultimately removed Riley from the list of suspects the investigation came to a standstill leaving Belinda's murder unresolved and turning it into a Cold Case however years later the case was reopened reigniting efforts to seek Justice for Belinda and her family when the case was her a fat ass from what you saw how did Belinda react to that she was hurt she had some concerns about the time away from home that David was spending she suspected that maybe something was going on I think she uh was hoping that it was for good reasons that he wasn't coming home on time however what they discovered went beyond their expectations as unexpected Secrets began to surface Belinda's Friends Revealed details of a troubled marriage depicting a relationship strained by difficulties that emerged after the birth of Evan the Rev ation of the strained marriage was particularly
