[Music] inside of 30 laps to go in the Pepsi 400 and as if a billion dollars isn't enough Pepsi's often so offering race fans across America a free Pepsi edge if Jeff Gordon wins I'd be getting excited let's go say America's Got 31 laps away from the possibility of that happening let's talk about this last pit stop it's going to happen with between 15 and 10 laps to go if we stay under green and if we do Larry what will they do well I think you're going to have to make some deals I think the Hendrick cars are going to need to get together and talk about I think the choice is either just gas and go are just two right-side tires but I think the key would be having cars do the same thing especially if your team cars Matt Larry Mac Chad can oust walk 20 pitch down to the 24 pit just to discuss of Robby Loomis third strategy when they're going to pit and what they're going to do four tires two tires the 24 car really loves the four tires but they're discussing possibly you'll never know well I just think time if you lose time on pit road you see Chad canals right there on the left-hand side you know if you lose a lot of time on pit road as Dale Earnhardt jr. Michael Waltrip did there'll be a group of cars that gets away from you and I don't know if even with those four fresh tires unlike last night in a big pack if it will do you a lot of good I say Larry give me enough gas to get me to the finish cup what I'm figuring these guys these cards get about six miles to the gallon all you need is about four gallons of fuel that's about four to five seconds you get out there by yourself you are sitting down we'll see the team cards work on them so Darrell wants gas Larry wants gas in two tires I want guessing four tires after last night's race Hammond gas them two tires I'm staying my boy Larry Mac I think you can get two tires what fuel you need and that will be enough to hold this car to the bottom of the racetrack and remain in the race but to pare the period on that I want what I can get a little group of cars to do with me if I can only talk these guys in the fuel only that's what we're gonna do do you know what I don't want I don't want to be the first one to come on pit road and when you take a chance I'm on them back up here a second when you take a chance and changing just two right-side tires then you have a chance of a mistake I don't see it griemann here between Robbie Loomis and Chad Knaus one's trying to convince the other something and there's Robbie holding out four fingers Steve well Mike they have not talked over the radio about what they're going to do on the stop but Chad did just ask Jimmy how his race car was Jimmy said tight and he said how tight Jimmy said real tight Matt Yocum and Chad Knaus still talking with robert lewis doing hand signals now chad is in the 97 pit Steve Letarte just came from the 97 pit talking with crew chief Jimmy fennec now Canales is in the pit he's also going to talk to Jimmy fitting they're trying to get down exactly what all three teams want to do on their final stop 27 laps to go in the Pepsi 400 if this last stop is made under the green flag why are these deals so important why do you need to pit with somebody well the thing is that you've got to know when you're going to come to pit road so you don't run over each other first of all and then it's how long are you going to be there that's the question and you don't want to get out by yourself but unlike any other race track we go to where it's not a restrictor plate race where the draft means so much yeah in the perfect world you'd come in and do some strategy where you'd be out there by yourself but you'll be running about two seconds slow if you're by yourself Larry Darrell another interesting point when you see Jeff Gordon he's in pit number 18 well Kurt Busch visit pit number 19 so these guys have got to be careful even they come down together of one I'm not over shooting the pits or somebody changing their pit strategy and that could be a mess just on pit road as far as how close they are together the Jeff on the last stop four of them came in together nose to tail and they all left together it was synchronized almost oh yeah Mike that was not for the win my friend I hate the tip you're right for the win so you got to figure out who you can work with an old DW how about that dance partner who's gonna be your dance park to me panic right now saying four tires it looks like that's what these guys are talking about four tires guys but you see right there when a mark Martin's crew members in those pits talking to Jimmy Feeny this is the first time tonight Kurt Busch has had a teammate up there for the most part to work with him Mark Martin's in fifth go ahead Larry Mac they just told us Borden two to three laps who's your buddy who's your pal who's gonna win the Pepsi 400 and whose which one of those cars is Pinocchio driving we're gonna find out here in 25 laps [Music] Jeff Gorton Kurt Busch Jimmie Johnson Tony Stewart Mark Martin the front five and Earnhardt jr. Bobby Labonte and Brian Vickers [Music] 23 laps to go the deals have been made up and down pit road and now there's activity in the Hendrick pits air guns and tires at the ready who will pit this time and I would have to believe that these cars are going to come this early they probably are looking at least two right-side tires they're not going to try to stretch the field to just the gas and go there's Dale jr. up on the outside he's definitely not coming this time Lana brake lock up as they come down to pit road speed limit where you're going to have to change some tires if you go to slap them like that Steve well let's see if Jimmie Johnson takes two or four they have already made an air pressure adjustment on the 48 car those tires of Jimmie Johnson's right-side tires on they will take four tires back Jeff Gordon slides to a stop chasing an eighth restrictor plate victory has never won a playwright tired as a 20-car Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers is the other Hedrick are also taking four tires [Music] it looked like out of that group that pitted the only car that really made me only took two tires there was a bunch of on pit road was Tony Stewart in that 20 car Michael took two baths but still on the lead lap change at second place Gordon moving around Harvick it's just a matter of time till the four tires will take over in the start outrunning the two tires yeah because what we have here are this top four we have Tony Stewart in the 20 Kevin Harvick it took two tires and then we have Jeff Gordon in the 24 Kurt Busch in the 97 into four but as they start slicing and dicing that group that Greg Biffle and Mark Martin is running with gonna pull up to Tony Stewart co-leader runner-up in the Daytona 500 this week his wallet lightened by $50,000 and 25 points for the post race altercation in Sonoma Steve Birds he's got the lead can he keep it it's gonna be tough Mike he took just two tires after he stopped he told his crew I feel awfully alone out here right now his spotter Mark Robertson said look in your rear-view mirror you have help coming Tony paws and said I don't like what I see coming at me but I think he's okay now DW I think what he was talking about when he was out there and had that big lead and that line of cars was coming back to him for the lead Jeff Gordon has caught Tony Stewart he's got Kurt Busch with him it's Chevy Chevy Ford Ford with Bush's teammate Mark Martin now in fourth place and Earnhardt jr. fifth ahead of Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson with a wild-card in this whole thing is the eighth or when he starts getting up there [Music] can't follow in Darrell you mentioned it earlier wouldn't you think Tina Stewart his best friend he has to hook that yellow line he has to run the bottom but he's doing a lot of blocking right now and holding Jeff Gordon up and look what it did to Jeff he had to get up out of the toilet run into the back of him here comes Kurt Busch with Dale Earnhardt jr. not ain't car moving to the high side with him going to get to very interesting but not very funny eleven and a half laps to go junior slicing loud and away he go the second he went right down on the side of it you believe that that will go we move right there you can see the grin on his face from here oh he's got to be just jumping up and down suck just that straight move man but the way they're running right now there one two that's rat reverse of how they took the checkered flag in the Daytona 500 it was a 20 car following a tee car did they go that you got it flowing on the bottom up ahead Darrell I think the Pied Pipers tuning up at the ideas he's getting a run on them after the Daytona 500 which jr. one he called Stewart his best drafting partner and their buddies on and off the track buddy if they work together one thing about Stewart he's been been a pretty aggressive up there in the front that Jeff had a run on him and he closed the door on him I still can't believe this move from the wall all the way to the yellow line and gains to position in about a hundred yards you know who else can't believe that Jimmy Johnson could where did he come from and what you think Tony Stewart's looking up that rearview mirror going going down into turn one there really really close the door on those guys as they close with me now the Hendrick teammates on the right of your screen are linked up Gordon and Johnson Jeff to the bottom what happened there was is again Tony uh closed the door of Dale jr. he lost a little momentum this could be you just or what these are he's from his teammate Jimmie Johnson in the 48 Kurt Busch been working these interviews back to about fit b9 to go this time [Music] No oh boy oh boy Bobby Labonte is in the mix so is Mark Martin there's Bobby Labonte drafting off her heart I think you can work your way up there one time I don't know if they're jr. you got enough time to do it again we talked about him earlier see Martin Martin in that six car coming in there of this play got Marx's hanging right there hanging tough in sixth place right now Tony Stewart can do is drive defeat jr. old man Kurt Busch lamdaur jr. he's gonna make a run outside and I don't think about like that to watch for hi now if Tony Stewart was watching last night's race and what happened to Michael Waltrip he knows not to get too much of a lead on Jeff Gordon Darrell he's playing why well you get out there in the cars behind you can get such a huge run on you that and not his problem is double trouble if he blocks Jeff Gordon Jimmie Johnson goes by on the other side what I'm seeing Dale Earnhardt jr. in the 8 car really starting to work the high side with Bobby Labonte behind him Terry Labonte was tucked up to his brother now he has lost some ground in the 5 car Jeff green the cheerios car Richard Petty going a lap down as Tony Stewart motors on past seven and a half laps to go [Music] now they've kicked Mark Martin in the six car back to the seventh this is not one of those places where you want to wait if you got anything for him you better get on by him now Jeff Gordon swings in the hot side he's gonna be side by side Tony Stewart he's got that hold on pushing him going up in the turn new Johnson would go at Gordon the other drivers had to go with the momentum that is why they left Stewart hanging there look at that red car he's company Johnny yo junior said I did this once young junior came to pick up Tony and see if they have anything for the two Hendrick cars gotta believe Tony's car should start giving up a little bit with the two tires six laps 15 miles to go we've been talking about pilot Vani in that 18 car he's moved in this group he'd like to get up there and help Tony if he could [Applause] Tony's going to have to be careful with these cars ganging up on the outside like that because the two tires you don't have quite the grip that the other boys in head we got six laps to go we got seven cars but then a half a second right here here comes junior cutting under Tony right there man they are slicing and dicing look at Mark Martin he's hooked up with his teammate Kurt Busch the 97 and Kurt jumps back to the outside let's see if you pulled back down he can get a push Bobby Labonte's caught Tony but it's going backwards not forwards yeah Tony's I think pretty much done now once he got shook out of the lead and get back there with cars all around you and I just don't have the grip and most importantly Jimmie Johnson has caught Jeff Gordon and locked on to his rear bumper once again the DuPont blows Chevy's can they hold off jr. no they can so fast and he's running the High Line I think that he's gonna really take them by surprise he has Kurt Busch in that 97 car pushing him about four and a half laps to go but we knew that to do that the Hendrick cars were going to give the Dei cars all they can handle tonight they've been building and building we've been seeing it we saw Jeff Gordon win Talladega and here he is leading the race coming down the backstretch that time I could see Dale Earnhardt jr. in a car waving to Kurt Busch stay in line with me push me work with his new best friend gets in for the time being you see Kurt Busch moved to the high side they'll come to line four to go this time ten miles from the finish line of the Pepsi 400 few buckets a heck of a run through the tri-oval here Rick Hendrick's Chevy's leading daily fanatic and an unlikely ally Kurt Busch in a Roush for you can see Dale Earnhardt jr. look over into that rearview mirror I think right now everybody's got one thing in mind Dale jr. Kurt Busch Tony mark I think they're all just saying admit we got to get back up there cuz right now they're not close enough [Music] at Kirk portion fourth place he's not going to help a chevy win the Pepsi 400 he wants it for himself and purport there's three of them in front of him so think he has a whole lot of options ready to go this time they come to the line you know that probably Jimmie Johnson is not going to pull out from Jeff Gordon unless unless jr. shakes him about the line some and that could happen remember Johnson did not qualify well in that number 48 but he said they brought a car that would race much better than it qualified and enhance well Jeff Gordon got a little bit looser off the turn to that time last time through one and two all top six cars ran round around the bottom nobody moved to the high side and no the first five cars are all run the same lap speed Oh 507 o2o 605 Casey Mears moved up to 11th Nemechek up to 14 this pack is catching a couple of cars it's up there in front of them they're going to be coming to two to go this time Junior's going to put Jimmie Johnson in a very Jarius situation slow car turn for Greg Biffle is going to coast on to good throw tough break for last night's runner-up in the Busch race in the defending champion of this race we're hearing he has a flat tire here comes Kurt Busch right up to Dale jr. thank junior he's off the pace right there off of two now he's trying to run low and can bump-drafting down the back straightaway trying to catch the Hendrick Chevy's Virginia lost a bunch of time at at that time off the turn too I think he got the cushion in Darryl s exactly what's happening to his car his car will not turn off the corner he said he's still gonna try to go to the high side but he's going to give up third position to Kurt Busch if he's not careful white flag this time the cake sold over boys [Music] Johnson a look to the bottom Jr's there look what that did that let jr. get there I mean but he gives up a lot of bread right there there's Kabul not turned from the center up it's just too tight off the two over there that's where you got to squeeze out at all ever so slightly he's going to get a run at him but it's gonna be too little too late Bush is coming and Mark Martin has a run on Tony Stewart again pass out but he got it ain't gonna do me any good this lap this race five times has been won by a last lap pass jimmie johnson locked onto his teammate and mentor Jeff Gordon Jeff Gordon's DuPont Pepsi Chevy is going to win the Pepsi four three Pepsi x4 America Jimmy Johnson second Dale Earnhardt jr. third Kurt Busch informed and Tony's group of those two tires come some fifth good run from our cart so in a six-car finish at six boy hacking battle back in here between Dale Jarrett Ricky Rudd and some of he may have had a rough month of June but he is rebounding here late June early July Jeff Gordon that 24 car two wins in a row looks like goals in a row two wins in a row looks like gonna be sets on the pole that might be a bad sign for everybody else Jeff Gordon chasing championship number five well he was a preseason favorite you know we were down here in February everybody picked you up horns win this championship he keeps going like he is has a chance of good chance he moves up to third in the standings defending champ Matt Kenseth getting caught up in a crash tonight on lap 18 in regardless of how many points he's behind just remember if he stays third nine more races he'll only be 10 points out of the lead [Music] [Applause] so really when you look at it our top three importance finished one two three [Music] great run to the boat Kurt Busch Mark Martin a to rouse cars 46 Tony comes home with on his pit entire level good calling this quarter [Music] celebrate Jeffy's gonna melt them down right there [Music] now what I always wanted to do is that right there just one time [Music] Jeff Gordon has his 68 career Cup win his form of the season he'll go to Victory Lane and so will we next chef Gordon wins the Pepsi 400 let's go down to Victory Lane Jeff Jeff you made history tonight at the number 24 DuPont Pepsi Carl what do you [Applause] [Music] just about everybody check how big defeat the Dei cars again that's unbelievable I got a lot of people to thank for this one because we certainly did do an ROI me what an awesome race car I got a uh I got think Jimmy Johnson uh him big-time what a great pushy game and we worked so well together all the Hendrick cars in today but all I think DuPont especially want to thank them for long Pepsi to do this program this win a billion play for a billion and what a big day for Pepsi man we had a bunch of by those red cars for summaries I don't know what they were but they were in my way it was pretty awesome fish ahead of them but what an awesome ever by Hendrick Motorsports this guy provides us with the mugs unbelievable research I can't think of me now how special to see all those Hendrick cars up there Rick oh man Ellen that's unbelievable you know I went here and when was it 897 so it was it's great doc exciting race the man Pepsi man 24 car back in victory lane for the fifth time in his career here at Daytona today with Dale Earnhardt jr. finished third you know got to give credit to the hindrance guys they they they come out here and named Wilkins off good job by you though let's go to Steve with Jeff Gordon's teammate Jimmie Johnson and your teammate just said he owes you big time was there anything you could have done to have gotten around your teammate now once we got in position the eight car was laying off of me trying to get a push from the 97 and I didn't have anybody behind me to help me I gave Jeff a great shot to get the lead and then I was able to work traffic and get the second I may have had a chance to get him there but who knows where we would have ended up before I what both would have been fifth or sixth so I waited until we got mine and I said the a car was so worried about trying to get me I never had anything tight behind me to get a good push to try to get them but I'm just very very proud of all of Hendrick Motorsports I think tonight we all showed what hard work and dedication can do so my hats off to everyone engine shop chassis shop Aero this Mo's wanted Carla's whole race team we weren't the best car didn't qualify well found what we needed halfway through happy hour and rally back to the second-place finish so I'm very pleased this is the 46th annual running of what is now known as the Pepsi 400 and only the fifth time it's been one from the pole fireball Roberts Jack Smith David Pearson Cale Yarborough and now Jeff Gordon I had a great night they you know they came here determined to death row in the Dei cars and the Pepsi car came home he won tonight and just remember you saw the top ten in points there 450 points separating first intent but also remember in nine races you can take that zero off that 450 because it goes to 45 points and like you guys were seeing earlier it's hard to believe our fourth season has come to an end we know the fans out there each of you have a driver you pull for I think when the race would allow we worked very hard to talk about your driver we tried to talk about the pitchers I know a Larry Mac I don't use the English a lot of you would like to hear but you know what it's because it comes from here of a sport that we all love and enjoy doing the races a lot it's been a great year man I kind of hate to miss the second half oh it's like a last day of school I'm flat for the summer off but gonna miss all of you guys will see in February Chris yeah we'll miss you guys too look over to DW houses hang out a Chevy congratulating Jeff Gordon it is a DuPont Chevy Monte Carlo team on tonight's big when no car dominated Cup racing like the defending manufacturers championship II and American Revolution [Music] right there pull in the wind and the pentacon ready energy more brush your gut wit go [Music] this race an American holiday classic the driver of the Pepsi car winning the Pepsi 400 and there was no no big one today right no Rekha but there was a big performance from Hendrick motor sports and and Jeff Gordon a lot of hard racing this week I mean this weekend as far as that's concerned we saw some great races both Friday night and Saturday night but very very impressive the way the teams work together tonight the Dei team combined led the most laps but Jeff Gordon the individual that the most of course led at the end as he continues to celebrate and what might we see in the second half with this battle in the points race that remain the same I think we're looking at what it's going to happen it's gonna be between Dale Earnhardt jr. this guy Jeff Gordon his teammate Jimmie Johnson and maybe oh by the way one or two other guys may sneak up in there but definitely these three guys we want to thank Jeff and I all the people the Hollywood hotel our production crew people in the in the truck and also handoff to NBC I know Mike mentioned it earlier we wish those guys a lot of luck in the second half yeah we wish them
