In my somewhat biased opinion as a Gordon fan, this is the most underrated Daytona 500 of all-time. Great racing throughout the race. The mid-2000s plate racing was arguably the peak of superspeedway racing. The final lead change happened in the closing laps. And it's one of the only Daytona 500s where the majority of the major stars not only made it to the end of the race, but almost all had a shot to win and factored into the finish. I get that it didn't have an absurd finish like '76, '79, or '07, but it was pretty much good flag to flag with few dull periods. Throw in that the sport was at its peak popularity, it's just a great one in my opinion.
Since nobody has mentioned it yet, thank you NASCAR for FINALLY uploading a classic race in 16:9 HD!!!!
Tony Stewart vs Jimmie Johnson vs Kurt Busch vs Dale Earnhardt Jr vs Jeff Gordon. You had the best of the best going for the biggest race of the year. It was awesome.
One thing that I have noticed from going back and watching races from the early-mid 2000s... single file restarts sucked. Especially at a super speedway.
Edit: Another thing of note.. this was some good racing.. at 187 mph average
Loving NASCAR putting all the old races up. This 500 is almost "lost" in my mind, because on the day of the '05 500, I went to watch a Junior hockey team that day (Canadian, and my whole team went to the game), so I missed almost all of the 500, but during one of the intermissions they showed the race on the jumbotron.
