How We Live In A Small Space | Family Of 5 | HOUSE TOUR

this is what I do all day the day that I washed my hair hola muchachos the day that I wash my hair it's just a little too clean you know like you just got to get some like oils go in even though I know probably at the end of the day my hair is going to be an oily greasy sponge but we all know it like that super clean hair doesn't work for everybody and it definitely does not work for me nothing to do today's video as most of my intros are just driving me crazy for today's video we are gonna go ahead and just kind of tour our small space may be kind of a weird thing to do especially because we're like moving very soon by the time you're watching this we may have our to move I'm not sure but it's it's happening right here so may be kind of weird you're like why would we watch kind of like a house two-hour video of the place you're moving from I kind of just want this to be a helpful video I wish I watched a video like this when me and Kieran first moved to this small space I grew up not living in like really small small houses I always felt like we always had lots of space my husband curing felt like he had that too and then all the sudden we got married and moved into the small space and we didn't know what to do with it until probably a year ago how horrible is that it's like we finally figured it out after like three or four years how to actually live and make the most of a smaller space so today's video I'm just going to pick up my vlog camera and just take you through our whole house now we are in the middle of a move so it's not how it usually is laid out but I kind of just want to go through everything and show you guys what I work with kind of on a daily basis we are very thankful to be moving somewhere with more space but we know sometimes people either don't have the ability to or enjoy living in a smaller space or they're new to a smaller space and they don't know what to do with it so this video I just kind of want it to be informative for people in that situation so I hope you guys like this video we love our small space but we have definitely outgrown it and I'm gonna go more into the details in a little bit of the square footage how many rooms and all that stuff if you're new here be sure to subscribe if you like these kind of videos and let's go ahead and jump into everything okay so we are in our space and right now I'm just standing in the living room I firstly want to say that we live in a one and a half bedroom house and I say half bedroom because that's what it is it's kind of like a closet you can outfitted twin-sized bed in there you can't fit a queen especially well you can fit a crib and it also doubles as a storage room but I'll go into that later but the square footage on this house is 750 square feet some people may hear that and think it's a lot it really isn't it's a pretty small space especially for family of five and I'm gonna just show you guys obviously how we work with this space so right now I'm here in the living room camera makes everything look bigger than it actually is but I'm just gonna take you through here so kind of the separation of the living room to the kitchen so our living room actually has a portable dishwasher because there's no room in our kitchen and that's fine on top is the diapers and stuff for the kids we have some stuff on the walls but we keep it pretty darn minimal because otherwise it's going to look really full have some pictures up there my most beloved tea cabinet up there and because we're in a small space this is our computer table that also doubles as a TV area or the kids we don't own a TV our computer works as our TV and if the kids would like to watch a show after naps they sit right over here also a little bit more minimal is our exercise ball because it just sits right under there this is by Devorah I like it because it has a handle and it's actually just really cute looking it also doubles as a work desk and extra seating area and you can see we're very minimal with the stuff on the desk as well we have our basket that keeps all of our blankets and extra linens in it fireplace in my plant again this is my teak cabinet and in here I have my play button some other decor things that I really do like and this is like my favorite part of the house this is by Article this ottoman and the couch is also by Article it's really beautiful we like having a sectional here it makes the most sense it makes the room feel a lot bigger just having all the seating in this corner over here in the living room this is the kids kind of play area so we have some books here these toy storage bins there from Ikea they're so great because they store a lot and also you can do more seating on top it's kind of like a bench our rug is by Article 2 and I think the width of our living room is I think it's 11 feet is what said that's our living room very minimal but because it's minimal it's doable turning right around you look into our kitchen so this kitchen we haven't done much to you can see we still have this purple countertop they haven't really renovated the kitchen itself except for the floors and lighting so in the kitchen we have a smaller table in chair set there's only five of us in the family and Ellie sits in her high chair so we can all kind of sit around the table but it is getting very snug this is from Ikea I get questions about it all the time it's been really good and we've really actually enjoy it but we would like something a little bit bigger because we like to host people as for the kitchen if I just back up a little bit it is just on this side of the wall so we have some of our storage I like having this open cupboard right here it's really great because it looks just kind of cool I like having a lot of these jars visible I think it just looks really nice try to keep the counter quite minimal so like cutting boards toaster some cups some utensils a little bit more jam-packed over here about my Vitamix SodaStream and our Brita we like to keep everything very minimal in the kitchen area now in order to have some more storage we decided to put a shelf right here we have three pots and we have maybe a handful of pans we keep a lot of our breads and produce here spices cookbooks is great for storage and I really really like the open concept look of it fridge there and you can see I kind of take advantage of putting some things up high and this mirror so many people ask this is a beautiful mirror by article and it's beautiful wood but we don't have any space to put it right now so we're just storing it there until we move and I think I'm gonna put it in our master bedroom so here's the fridge and here's our bed and this is just how we have to do it and this is how we've done it for we're getting close to a couple years now this divider was one of the best ideas I had for this house this is from Ikea and it's great for storage and it's great for division so if you look on the other side of the shelving unit you see this is the entrance so this is the front door we have coats here again be more minimal with your coats with your shoes put some storage up on top that's always great we have storage here but we keep the kids shoes from here everyone has kind of their own bin baskets blanket this is great for storage and being a divider so I like having this here it's been really great and yes we always do have empty storage throughout the house because we're always decluttering we like keeping things pretty minimal you see these are all our moving boxes for moving day so that's on that side without the divider it was just so close to the front door and I felt like our bed was getting so much dirt on it because people would just come like right through this works out quite nicely great storage here so this is our bed I always would encourage people to go for under bed storage it helps a lot you can see we only have a few things in here because we do like to be minimal our bed is very simple just some nice linen blankets and a throw pillow the more simple and less cluttered everything looks the bigger it looks and feels so yeah our bed is literally right outside of the kitchen but it works for me and Ciaran for now but we do look forward to having a master bedroom so yeah that's what it looks like I know some people may think it's a little bit weird but for me and Karen it's just kind of like normal it's normal for us to have our bed right outside the kitchen because our kids need a bedroom kind of more than we do and we can't just put them here and let them run wild they need a little more separation than we do and I am really looking forward to the kids having their own bedrooms though so that'll be nice but the kids are about to wake up from their naps and then I'm gonna send them over here and then I'm gonna go down into the hallway the bathroom which is also a laundry room storage room and the kids room give you guys a little bit more of a peek into that and how we do it kids are up from their naps hey kiddos you're so cute and I thought I would show you guys the rest of the place the kitchen leads us into the hallway on this side and I'll turn on the light here so this is our storage room and also Elizabeth's room I get a non-si I got so much hate for putting Elizabeth in a room like this people are saying that she's never gonna grow she needs more color toys and you know what when you're in a small space this is what you have to do and don't let anyone make you feel ashamed about working with what you got because that's what we've been doing this entire time and it's worked for us and it's all good so we have a bookshelf that's full of books we always like I said we always have extra space for extra storage in case something else comes into our house more storage again a little bit of an empty space here we have these from Ikea a lot of them actually aren't filled up but some of them do this has tea and extra spices vacuum is kept in here with some extra stock up stuff like diapers and toilet paper does anyone else make their kids cribs because I always do I have their Tower if they want to see what I'm up to in the kitchen and the backpack carrier we have some shelves from Ikea here I keep a lot of you see what's on the bottom these bins these are filled with the kids clothes that they're going to grow into or grown out of we got some scrapbooks there's a travel crib in the back and also you can see all these are labeled so we have puzzles in this one messy play clean play and then we have some extra stuff up there everything is safe everything is weighted down and these are attached to the wall which is really good so let's turn this off and come down here I know people ask this just leads to our furnace it's not an actual room but let's go into the bathroom so our bathroom also doubles as a laundry room these are stackable washer dryers but we decide to keep them both on the ground so we could put a lot of storage on top as well as put like a shelving unit up top too this is where we keep bath toys hangers towels and our laundry basket in these big bins this will be something where Karen can in the morning he can go into it has a lot of his loungewear as well as some work clothes I have loungewear in here these are whites and these are darks and colors that are for washing of course we have our shower has a great bath basic hits in we do have a big mirror which is really nice and it makes this small bathroom feel a little bit bigger I honestly really look forward to having multiple bathrooms and not have our washing machines in the bathroom it's totally doable we've done it for almost five years but if this is what you have to work with it's not that bad I find I have to wash a lot of things down like wipe things down more than I probably would if I didn't have a laundry machine in here and just the amount of dust and dirt and food that collects in here is crazy because this is where I do my laundry so there is that but honestly having one bathroom is really good it is the sense that I only have to clean one bathroom but it works people all of this works and then yeah we have all of our like house coats and extras on the back of the door and let's go into the kids room so if you're coming from the bathroom into the kid's room now this is the one that it doesn't really look like it usually looks so what we have here is a loft bed so usually IVs up here but we put the mattress down here because her and Calvin like sleeping together recently as well as we've been putting a lot of moving boxes that we will be filling up on the top but usually her bed is up here and that gives them a lot of play space with a little kids we always have to cover up the outlets that are in use with a dresser so we have to cover this up and then the air conditioner outlet we have to cover it with that one otherwise both of these would be pushed into the corner kids share one dresser and me and Ciaran share one dresser some toy storage here I love these from Ikea they're like five bucks and they're so great for wall storage and then we all share closets so Kieran's clothes are up top mine are right there and then the kids have their clothes there this is really the only actual bedroom in the house and it is so quite a small space let me back it up for you so quite a small space but definitely doable this used to be mine and Kieran's room and then when we start having kids this had to change into the kid's room because they needed it more than we did and that is our house that is our small space so if you're going to taking anything from this video minimalism is huge I am huge into being a minimalist and even getting into a bigger space I want to keep that mindset of being more minimal and the things that I own because it does make me more productive and make my days a lot simpler being on top of decluttering is also huge realizing your needs before your wants because your needs always need to be fulfilled your wants they're gonna be changing all the time they're not extremely necessary don't let anyone make you feel bad about living in a small space I've had so many people try to make me feel bad or even shame me for living in a small space don't ever feel like that people have to work through stuff people have to do things differently than other people and that not a bad thing and that's pretty much it thank you very much for watching today's video and if you live in a small space let me know some tips you
