[Music] why hello there friends and welcome back it has been way way way too long since we have brought you guys one of our two minute Tuesday videos so that's what we're gonna be doing with today's video but before we get into it we have something pretty exciting to share with you recently for the first time we had one of our youtube videos hit 50k views and it was our how to paint fabric shoes video which we featured the supreme red Easy's and that is just kind of mind-blowing to us that we have a video that hit 50k and what's really cool about that video and today's video is they have some correlation because one of the most asked questions about that video is what vinyl did we use on these supreme uses and how did we get some vinyl to lay down to handle a super crisp logo like that clean supreme that we did so that's what we're gonna be covering in today's video we're gonna be talking to you guys all about this specific type of vinyl that works best when placing it on a fabric material so without further ado let's go ahead throw two minutes on the clock and dive right into it so my vinyl of choice for just typical everyday use is going to be the Oracle 811 because we're specifically working on kind of harder surfaces such as leather or synthetic materials that are featured on cleats but specifically when we're working on fabrics meshes or anything like that I like to switch over to the Oracle 651 specifically the glitter edition now this has a much stickier adhesive than the regular 651 of white or any other color and much more so than the 811 so this is really gonna hold down onto materials that are typically hard to place tape on top up such as you know mesh nubuck or anything like that and another great tip that I heard from my buddy Billy over at true-blue customs is if you're gonna be doing this on something like a Roche it's also a good idea to lay down a couple coats of Kryolan matte finish before you lay down the vinyl on top of it so specifically what I'm gonna be working on today is the tongue tag of a Jordan one mint and in my opinion it's always a little bit easier to work on painted fabric rather than non painted fabric so I'm just gonna lay down a couple coats of mist and give these a couple nice base coats on top of this tongue tag so to cut any of my stencils I use a combination of a silhouette cameo along with a little bit of Photoshop so let's go ahead and dive into some of that so we're gonna go ahead and pull up whatever image we're gonna turn into a stencil into Photoshop and our main goal here is to turn any of the shapes that we want to cut out into a solid black and depending on your level of kind of skill or how comfortable you are with Photoshop there's a million different ways you can do anything in there I kind of always tend to say but I'm just gonna go ahead use the magic wand tool in this situation since anything that's purple is what I'm gonna turn into a stencils so this should be pretty quick and simple to do [Music] [Music] I'm gonna create a new layer and we're gonna paint that on black [Music] turn off that layer underneath and now we're just gonna go ahead and save this as a JPEG next we're gonna go ahead and load this up in silhouette studio we're gonna do a select trace area around our image [Music] [Music] and now these red outlines are essentially our cut lines and this is what's gonna be cut out now the next thing that we need to do is just measure up the exact size we want this image to be so we're gonna go ahead take a ruler place that up against our tongue tag and really try to get it down basically to a sixteenth of an inch or so on how big we want this to be so I'm gonna go ahead and do one inch in height and we're gonna get that as close as we possibly can now the standard measurements that are going to load up when you select vinyl in the cut settings are going to be a five for speed and a ten for thickness this glitter vinyl is a little bit thicker so I like to go at least one or two points higher on the thickness so I'll tend to typically go like an 11 or 12 even if their recommended is 10 for most vinyls now that our stencil is all cut out we're gonna go ahead and take the positive portion of the stencil use a little bit of transfer tape peel that back and then the reason we do this is so that we can see through the transfer tape which is really really transparent so that we can line this up perfectly exactly where we want it if we just pulled off the negative portion of the stencil and then just try lining it up we're kind of guessing where we're gonna be placing things so doing it this way placing down the positive first is gonna help us in the long run because we're gonna really be able to place this exactly where we want it once we've then placed the negative portion on top of the positive portion of the stencil we can go ahead and start peeling back all the positive portions that we don't need that we want to spray through and then you want to make sure to heat set this final and then it's really gonna grab on to this fabric and as you can kind of start to see with enough of the heat you really start to see some of the indentations and you start to even see some of that stitching and stuff popping through so you know that this vinyl is really adhering to that fabric whereas if we just use the Oracle 811 which is my go-to everyday vinyl it's just not going to hold down as well when push comes to shove and you start pulling and pushing on certain areas the vinyl just has a lot more tendency to lift verses that Oracle 811 in the glitter edition it's gonna hold down super tight no matter how much pulling and tugging you're doing now I'm ready to go ahead and lay down a few coats of purple in my situation and this is where it comes in handy of already having a painted surface we know exactly how this color is gonna lay on top of it whereas if you were just painting this up against the tongue tag with no paint underneath then you might have a little bit more guesswork when it comes to how are these coats gonna lay on top so this is also another really great reason to lay down a couple base coats underneath your stencil now that we're all done with our paint work it's time to peel back our stencil and one little tip that I've mentioned in a couple of our other videos is this is where I like to pull back our heat gun out again and heat up that vinyl as you're pulling it back and this is a great tip to make the vinyl come out a little bit easier and if you're working on something like a hard surface like leather or synthetic this is also going to really help prevent any paint peeling up awesome so definitely heat up that vinyl when you're ready to pull it back now I'm just gonna do a clean simple yellow outline around all of our purple lettering to really help tie these in together and that is a wrap on today's 2 minute Tuesday lesson of how to use vinyl stencils on top of fabric I know we went well over our two minute mark for today's video but this is a really interesting topic to me because it's something that I had no idea about for so long I was always wondering why I could never get any vinyl to lay down on top of any fabric surface I was always wondering what I was doing wrong or what the case may be and then one day thankfully our buddy Chris over at boosted stripes gave us the suggestion that this glitter vinyl he had been using was laying down a whole lot better and it was it had this crazy adhesive that he thought might work well on fabric and sure enough it holds down way better than anything else I've ever experimented with so go ahead and give this a try if you plan on using any type of vinyl stencils on type of any fabric maybe you're gonna be working on some Roches or a pair of the easies this is definitely gonna be the best thing for you and in our case for the shoe we were working on today just doing a really cool Lakers theme on a Jordan one you're just able to add these tiny little details on the tongue tag that just really helped tie the whole theme together and really go a long way when your customer gets their shoes for the first time and they see all these tiny little extra details that you went out of your way to do so thank you guys for checking out another one of our videos we hope you guys enjoyed today's 2 minute Tuesday segments we definitely plan on bringing these back hopefully every other week because this is something that you guys really enjoyed and we had some really great feedback from so if there's any other video or topic that you guys would like to see covered in a two minute Tuesday just go ahead and let us know in the comments below if you guys haven't already please give this video a like
