How to use the ECT3000 by #powerprobe to find open/short circuit on your car or truck!

what's up guys I'm going to show you how to use a E3000 this is the open short detector this is the receiver there's not many videos on YouTube about these well there's a lot but nobody really goes in depth on the the functions of it and I'm going to try to do that cuz I actually had to teach myself about 75% on how to use this thing the other 25% I learned from YouTube Okay so we're going uh we had a short in the wire that goes to all the injectors and gives it voltage we had a short there and we got this all Tour Part everything man we went knees deep into it and then I said screw it I'm going to learn how to use this thing and and I found it the I found the issue within an hour um so make sure your key off you don't want to send power or nothing through here and confuse anything you just want the signal that's going through here to travel through your wires okay put the black on the negative the red on the positive you're going to take the green wire and you're going to probe whatever you are suspecting that has the short whether if it's a headlight um tail light injectors coils whatever it is so I knew I was losing power at my voltage wire for the injectors um so that's what I'm probing I knew that by using a test light that's how I knew I didn't have voltage so I knew I had an issue so I probe this one here turn this on okay that's high sense on and off low sense sense lock that's important to know you're going to take the device and you're going to put it up to the green wire and you want to let it get its fastest ping and hit that button one time this sense lock that locks that signal so now we're not going to pick up nothing else but this signal right here each one of these lights here represents 1 in so right now we're at 1 in we're going to extend this all the way out so we're at three four five 6 7 8 in so now whenever the that'll get us to Signal off when we're within 8 in um if you want to turn it down I'll go to seven now I have to get closer okay so start from where you're pronged at and go One Direction and then go the other if you don't find it so here you go down I'm picking up signal I ain't even going to mess with all that I'm going to try to make this short and sweet we know those wires go back behind the engine comes out over here let me climb up here now when this stops beeping that's when you're close to your short here we got a signal there so we know we're good all the way to the PCM come over here we know we're good and let's see here here's a wiring harness under there now did you see that that did that because I I got a little close to the battery it'll think there's like an open or something see okay so we have signal on this harness so I'm going to climb under the truck I'm going to follow it what's up doer oh it's a tight fit because of the plow m okay so my harness is right there right there's my horness we got a signal we got a signal I'm going to go up top always check around the whole wire all the way around see how I lost my signal at the front but I picked it up in the back turn it up see if I pick it back up in the front nope okay so we're traveling we're traveling along there's my broken wire but I'm going to show you what happens when you pass that see how it paused and pecked back up when your beep stops that means you found the broke or you're close to it the brake with a short so to narrow it down even more turn this thing down now watch what happens I have to literally get real close to that wire let's go to two [Music] boom gone now imagine this was still in the bundle that's what I was getting i' pick up a good signal I would get past that point and lose it that's the other end of it right there so that's how this thing works just like so well I got it dialed into one in so that's how you're going to narrow it down closer boom gone got it gone that's how you're going to get real close when everything's still in the harness that's tough to do you got to get this antenna and actually try to circle the whole harness turn it up if you're not sure Circle the whole harness turn it up if you need to even more so I know my wire is not in the back but it's in the front the most important thing is locking that signal in that's why I couldn't figure out how to use this damn thing because nobody was specifying on how to lock the signal in they were just saying it so I thought you had to hold down the button to lock it in and you don't you just push it one time from the jump so let's do that again I'm going to start over shut it off turn it on lock the signal get that faster beep One Time Boom locked in that's all there is to it and then you can trace your wires I even went through all this and didn't even need to because my issue was up there but I didn't have this device I wasn't using it so I did all this extra work now I got to wrap all this back up tuck it away put the paneling back on did all that so mad at myself like I should have used this thing from the jump did all that yeah I could have found this thing a week and a half ago now another thing I want to point out I want to show you something excuse me this kind of worried me I thought I had an issue with the PCM so I was coming up here I'm going to turn it up I was coming up here and I was getting to the PCM and that was was happening either that would happen or this would happen I would just drop the signal and I think the reason that is is because there might be some kind of signal protection for like radio frequencies and stuff like that I'm not sure so it don't allow the signal to penetrate and penetrate through originally I thought man my pcm's bad and it turns out it's not so I just want to give you guys a low down on how to run this thing um don't forget to uh lock in the signal same when you're doing a short circuit mine's an open if it was a short it would switch the short except the difference is is on this the short is detected here the op detected through the antenna so then you get the use of the arrows this thing will actually point you in the direction you need to go if you pass your brake or you're open or your short I mean if you pass that it'll tell you to back up boom and then it'll light up again um so yeah I hope this helps guys I'm trying to be as informative on this thing as possible I may even do another more in-depth video of it don't
